The results of theoretical and experimental studies on the generation of spatially coherent electromagnetic radiation in a planar free-electron maser with two-dimensional distributed feedback are reported. A two-dimensional Bragg structure is used at the initial part of the interaction space to ensure the transverse synchronization of the radiation. The possibility of the narrowband generation in the 75-GHz frequency band is demonstrated experimentally for a sheet kiloampere electron beam whose width is 20 times larger than the wavelength. 相似文献

The use of two-dimensional Bragg resonators of planar geometry, realizing two-dimensional (2D) distributed feedback, is considered as a method of producing spatially coherent radiation from a large sheet electron beam. The spectrum of eigenmodes is found for a 2D Bragg resonator when the sides of the resonator are open and also when they are closed. The higher selectivity of the open resonator in comparison with the closed one is shown. A time-domain analysis of the excitation of an open 2D Bragg resonator by a sheet electron beam demonstrates that a single-mode steady-state oscillation regime may be obtained for a sheet electron beam of width 100-1000 wavelengths. Nevertheless, for a free-electron maser (FEM) with a closed 2D Bragg resonator, a steady-state regime can also be realized if the beam width does not exceed 50-100 wavelengths. The parameters for a FEM with a 2D planar Bragg resonator driven by a sheet electron beam based on the U-2 accelerator (INP RAS, Novosibirsk) are estimated and the project is described. 相似文献

The nonlinear dynamics of coaxial free-electron masers with 2D distributed feedback, which is realizable in 2D Bragg structures,
is analyzed in terms of a quasi-optical approximation. It is shown that feedback with the spatial synchronization of radiations
from tubular electron beams with a perimeter exceeding 1000 wavelengths can be provided under such conditions. The objects
of investigation are the one-section design of a free-electron maser with 2D distributed feedback and a design with a combined
two-mirror resonator. In the latter, an entrance 2D Bragg mirror provides the spatial synchronization of radiation and weak
reflections from a conventional exit Bragg mirror are sufficient for the self-excitation of the oscillator. The advantage
of the two-mirror design is a decrease in ohmic losses. The adequacy of the geometric optics approximation used earlier to
describe the dynamics of such self-excited oscillators is demonstrated under various boundary conditions for transverse (azimuthal)
energy fluxes at the edges of a Bragg structure. 相似文献

A model of a laser exploiting two-dimensional (2D) distributed feedback is developed. A new feedback mechanism can be realized using a dielectric structure with the width having double-periodical sinusoidal or chessboard modulation. It is shown that 2D Bragg resonator possesses high selectivity over both the longitudinal and the transverse indices. Within semi-classical approach nonlinear dynamics of 2D distributed feedback laser (DFL) is studied and spatial synchronization of radiation from extended active medium is demonstrated. 相似文献

A new type of high-selective Bragg resonator having a step of corrugation inside the interaction region was used as a microwave system for a free-electron maser (FEM). Using a LINAC LIU-3000 (1 MeV/200 A/200 ns) to drive the FEM oscillator, a single-mode single-frequency operation was achieved at a frequency of 30.74 GHz with an output power of about 50 MW, which corresponded to a record efficiency of 35% for a millimeter wavelength FEM. 相似文献

We analyze the dynamics of free-electron masers (FEMs) with two-mirror hybrid Bragg resonators using the coupling between running and quasi-critical modes in the input mirror. Such a mirror may have the form of a 2D Bragg structure with coaxial geometry or a segment of a cylindrical waveguide with axisymmetric corrugation having a period close to the wavelength. The output mirror has the traditional Bragg structure coupling two counterpropagating running waves (the corrugation period is close to half the wavelength). It is shown that a stable unimodal lasing with a radiation frequency close to the cutoff frequency of the quasicritical mode excited in the input mirror can be attained using this scheme under optimal conditions. Such a regime is insensitive to variations of the electron beam parameters. Simulation of experimentally implemented FEMs and those being developed is carried out. 相似文献

Ultrashort pulses of microwave radiation have been produced in a dielectric-lined Cherenkov free-electron maser (FEM) amplifier. An intense initial seed pulse, due to coherent spontaneous emission (CSE), arises at the leading edge of the electron pulse. There is evidence to show that 3-4 cycle spikes are produced through the amplification of these seed pulses. A strong dependence of the start-up power on the rise time of the electron pulse has been found. The experimental results are verified by a theoretical analysis. Our study shows that amplification in a FEM amplifier is always initiated by CSE arising from the edge of the electron pulse when the rise time is comparable to the electromagnetic wave period. 相似文献

Ridge-waveguide AlGaInAs/AlGaAs distributed feedback lasers with lattice-matched GaInP gratings were fabricated and their light-current characteristics, spectrum and far-field characteristics were measured. On the basis of our experimental results we analyze the effect of the electron stopper layer on light-current performance using the commercial laser simulation software PICS3D. The simulator is based on the self-consistent solution of drift diffusion equations, the Schrödinger equation, and the photon rate equation. The simulation results suggest that, with the use of a 80 nm-width p-doped Al0.6GaAs electron stopper layer, the slope efficiency can be increased and the threshold current can be reduced by more than 10 mA. 相似文献

Nonlinear dynamics of free-electron masers (FEMs) is studied in the planar geometry with 2D distributed feedback (DFB). As is distinct from previous works, the field structure is not fixed with respect to the three spatial coordinates including the coordinate that is orthogonal to surfaces of the plates of the 2D Bragg resonator. Conditions on the allowed oversize parameter (ratio of the gap between the resonator plates to wavelength) under which the steady-state generation remains stable upon variation in electron-beam parameters are derived. It is demonstrated that, at a relatively large gap, variations in the mismatch lead to the jumps of oscillation frequency that correspond to the excitation of bunches of modes with different transverse indices of partial waves. The results of simulation using a particle-in-cell method are presented for a FEM prototype with 2D DFB that is created using an ELMI accelerator at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. The simulated results show that narrow-band spatially coherent radiation can be generated at experimental parameters of the electron beam and electrodynamic system. The advantages of 2D Bragg structures in comparison with conventional 1D structures are demonstrated for FEMs. 相似文献

It is shown that the application of a resonator composed of one-dimensional and two-dimensional coaxial Bragg mirrors provides a spatially coherent radiation from a hollow electron beam with a transverse size several orders of magnitude larger than the wavelength. The two-dimensional Bragg mirror placed at the cathodic end of the resonator synchronizes the radiation across the hollow electron beam. The standard one-dimensional Bragg mirror placed at the collector end closes the feedback loop and reduces ohmic losses to as low as 5–10% of the lasing power. 相似文献

In this article, a near-infrared methane detection system using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy technology was designed and implemented. The distributed feedback laser was driven by a self-developed temperature and current controller to allow scanning the selected absorption wavelength at 1654?nm. Laser temperature fluctuation was lower than 0.01%, and the output emission wavelength was linear and stable. The emitted beam passed a reflective gas chamber and was received by the Indium Gallium Arsenide photodiode detector. Through a data acquisition card, a digital lock-in amplifier was developed to extract the second harmonics with real-time monitoring and adjustment. Based on Allan deviation analysis, the limit of detection was about 48?ppm with a path length of 30?cm, at an integration time of 6?s. The experimental results revealed a maximum detection error of less than 3% at a gas concentration higher than 100?ppm. The fluctuations rates in long-term (9?hr) stability measurements for 1?×?103?ppm and 1?×?104?ppm methane samples were 0.8% and 0.48%, respectively, indicating good stability for the sensor. In the control module design, compared with previous reports on methane detection systems, the current system uses a self-developed temperature controller, a current driver and a signal processor, to allow real-time display and adjustments. The potential for adjustable wavelength scanning is available for multi-gas detection based on a single detection system. 相似文献

Oscillation conditions were determined for acoustically distributed feedback (ADFB) lasers based on gyrotropic uniaxial and
cubic crystals. The lasing threshold was shown to be higher for the modes with clockwise polarization than for those with
counterclockwise polarization. It is established that the regions of maximal amplification for clockwise (counterwise) waves
of the gyrotropic crystal are displaced in the direction of decreased (increased) phase detuning, respectively, relative to
amplification regions that correspond to the absence of crystal gyrotropy. The ADFB laser was shown to be capable of generating
at the Bragg frequency.

We propose a new non-intrusive flow measurement method using the distributed feedback fiber laser(DFB-FL)as a sensor to monitor flow in the pipe.The relationship between the wavelength of the DFB-FL and the liquid flow rate in the pipeline is derived.Under the guidance of this theory,the design and test of the flow sensor is completed.The response curve is relatively flat in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 500 Hz,and the response of the flow sensor has high linearity.The flow from 0.6 m^3/h to 25.5 m^3/h is accurately measured under the energy analysis method in different frequency intervals.A minimum flow rate of 0.046 m/s is achieved.The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the new non-intrusive flow measurement method based on the DFB-FL and accurate measurement of small flow rates. 相似文献

为了提高相对论速调管放大器的工作频率和输出功率,结合三重轴相对论速调管和多注速调管的特点,设计了工作在X波段的同轴强流多注相对论速调管放大器,对强流多注电子束在多注器件结构中的传输、电子束经过输入腔和中间腔后的基波调制以及经过输出腔的微波提取过程进行了实验研究,得到了初步的实验结果.在输入微波功率30 kW,频率9.375 GHz,电子束电压670kV,束流5.3 kA,轴向引导磁感应强度0.8 T的条件下,得到了最大输出微波功率为420 MW,效率为12%,增益为41 dB,输出微波频率与输入微波一致.实验证实了采用同轴强流多注相对论速调管放大器实现X波段高功率微波放大的可行性,为后续更高功率研究打下了基础. 相似文献
