ac noise in disordered conductors causes both dephasing of the electron wave functions and a dc current around a mesoscopic ring. We demonstrate that the dephasing rate tau(-1)(varphi) in long wires and the dc current , induced by the same noise and averaged over an ensemble of small rings, are connected in a remarkably simple way: tau(varphi) = C(beta)e. Here e is an electron charge, and the constant C(beta) approximately 1 depends on the Dyson symmetry class. The relationship seems to agree reasonably with experiments. This suggests that the two puzzles, anomalously large persistent current and the low-temperature saturation of the dephasing, may have a common solution.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of the Mott insulator-superfluid quantum phase transition in a periodic 1D array of Josephson junctions. We show that crossing the critical point at a finite rate with a quench time tau(Q) induces finite quantum fluctuations of the current around the loop proportional to tau(-1/6)(Q). This scaling could be experimentally verified with an array of weakly coupled Bose-Einstein condensates or superconducting grains.  相似文献

Using fast confocal microscopy we image the three-dimensional dynamics of particles in a yielded hard-sphere colloidal glass under steady shear. The structural relaxation, observed in regions with uniform shear, is nearly isotropic but is distinctly different from that of quiescent metastable colloidal fluids. The inverse relaxation time tau(alpha)(-1) and diffusion constant D, as functions of the local shear rate gamma*, show marked shear thinning with tau(alpha)(-1) proportional to D proportional to gamma*(0.8) over more than two decades in gamma*. In contrast, the global rheology of the system displays Herschel-Bulkley behavior. We discuss the possible role of large scale shear localization and other mechanisms in generating this difference.  相似文献

Using the exclusive decay B0s-->J/psi(mu+mu-)phi(K+K-), we report the most precise single measurement of the B0s lifetime. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 220 pb(-1) collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in 2002-2004. We reconstruct 337 signal candidates, from which we extract the B0s lifetime, tau(B0s)=1.444(+0.098)(-0.090)(stat)+/-0.020(sys) ps. We also report a measurement for the lifetime of the B0 meson using the exclusive decay B0-->J/psi(mu+mu-)K*0(892)(K+pi-). We reconstruct 1370 signal candidates, obtaining tau(B0)=1.473(+0.052)(-0.050)(stat)+/-0.023(sys) ps, and the ratio of lifetimes, tau(B0s)/tau(B0)=0.980(+0.076)(-0.071)(stat)+/-0.003(sys).  相似文献

Using a sample of tagged D(s)(+) decays collected near the D(s)(*+/-)D(s)(-/+) peak production energy in e(+)e(-) collisions with the CLEO-c detector, we study the leptonic decay D(s)(+)-->tau(+)nu(tau) via the decay channel tau(+)-->e(+)nu(e)nu(tau). We measure B(D(s)(+)-->tau(+)nu(tau))=(6.17+/-0.71+/-0.34)%, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Combining this result with our measurements of D(s)(+)-->mu(+)nu(mu) and D(s)(+)-->tau(+)nu(tau) (via tau(+)-->pi(+)nu(tau)), we determine f(D(s))=(274+/-10+/-5) MeV.  相似文献

We present measurements of the Lambda(0)(b) lifetime in the exclusive decay channel Lambda(0)(b)--> J/psiLambda(0), with J/psi--> mu(+)mu(-) and Lambda(0)--> ppi(-), the B0 lifetime in the decay B0-->J/psiK(0)(S) with J/psi--> mu(+)mu(-) and K(0)(S)-->pi(+)pi(-), and the ratio of these lifetimes. The analysis is based on approximately 250 pb(-1) of data recorded with the D0 detector in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.96 TeV. The Lambda(0)(b) lifetime is determined to be tau(Lambda(0)(b)) = 1.22(+0.22)(-0.18)(stat) +/- 0.04(syst) ps, the B0 lifetime tau(B0) = 1.40(+0.11)(-0.10)(stat) +/- 0.03(syst) ps, and the ratio tau(Lambda(0)(b))/tau(B0) = 0.87(+0.17)(-0.14)(stat) +/- 0.03(syst). In contrast with previous measurements using semileptonic decays, this is the first determination of the Lambda(0)(b) lifetime based on a fully reconstructed decay channel.  相似文献

If the Ehrenfest time tau(E) of a ballistic cavity is not negligible in comparison to its dwell time tau(D), the weak localization correction to the cavity's transmission is suppressed proportional to exp(-tau(E/tau(D). At the same time, quantum interference enhances the probability of reflection into the mode of incidence by a factor two. This "enhanced backscattering" does not depend on the Ehrenfest time. We show that, in addition to the diagonal enhanced backscattering, there are off-diagonal contributions to coherent backscattering that become relevant if tau(E) > or = tau(D).  相似文献

Forbidden transitions from levels with 3P and 1D cores in excited configurations of Cl-like Mn IX and Fe X have been isolated using interference filters. The fluorescence decay lifetimes of ions orbiting in a Kingdon ion trap were measured. New relativistic configuration interaction calculations of relevant level lifetimes, to aid the analysis, based on B-spline basis sets, are also presented. Line identifications and experimental lifetimes are Mn IX ((4)D(7/2)-(4)F(9/2)):363(-3/+7) nm; tau(Mn IX3p(4)(3P)3d (4)F(9/2)) = 210+/-42 ms; tau(Fe X,3p(4)(3P)3d (4)F(9/2)) = 85.7+/-9.2 ms; tau(Fe X,3p(4)(3P)3d (4)F(7/2)) = 93+/-30 ms; and tau(Fe X, 3p(4)(1D)3d (2)G(9/2)) = 17.8+/-3.1 ms.  相似文献

We evaluate the full current statistics (FCS) in the low-dimensional (1D and 2D) diffusive conductors in the incoherent regime eV>E(Th)=D/L(2), E(Th) being the Thouless energy. It is shown that the Coulomb interaction substantially enhances the probability of big current fluctuations for short conductors with E(Th)>1/tau(E), tau(E) being the energy relaxation time, leading to the exponential tails in the current distribution. The current fluctuations are most strong for low temperatures, provided E(Th) approximately [(eV)(2)/Dnu(2)(1)](1/3) for 1D and E(Th) approximately (eV/g)ln(g for 2D, where g is a dimensionless conductance and nu(1) is a 1D density of states. The FCS in the "hot electron" regime is also discussed.  相似文献

We fitted C(k,tau,epsilon) proportional to exp([-sigma(k,epsilon)tau] to time-correlation functions C(k,tau,epsilon) of structure factors S(k,t,epsilon) of shadowgraph images of fluctuations below a supercritical bifurcation at V(0)=V(c) to electroconvection of a planar nematic liquid crystal in the presence of a voltage V=sqrt[2]V(0)cos((2pift) [k=(p,q) is the wave vector and epsilon identical with V(2)(0)/V(2)(c)-1]. There were stationary oblique (normal) rolls at small (large) f. Fits of a modified Swift-Hohenberg form to sigma(k,epsilon) gave f-dependent critical behavior for the minimum decay rates sigma(0)(epsilon) and the correlation lengths xi(p,q)(epsilon).  相似文献

We present measurements of the lifetimes and polarization amplitudes for B(0)(s)-->J/psiphi and B(0)(d)-->J/psiK(*0) decays. Lifetimes of the heavy and light mass eigenstates in the B(0)(s) system are separately measured for the first time by determining the relative contributions of amplitudes with definite CP as a function of the decay time. Using 203+/-15 B(0)(s) decays we obtain tau(L) = (1.05(+0.16)(-0.13) +/- 0.02) ps and tau(H) = (2.07(+0.58)(-0.46) +/- 0.03) ps. Expressed in terms of the difference DeltaGamma(s) and average Gamma(s), of the decay rates of the two eigenstates, the results are DeltaGamma(s)/Gamma(s) = (65(+25)(-33) +/- 1)% and DeltaGamma(s) = (0.47(+0.19)(-0.24) +/- 0.01) ps(-1).  相似文献

We study the Kolmogorov-Johnson-Mehl-Avrami theory of phase conversion in finite volumes. For the conversion time we find the relationship tau(con)=tau(nu)[1+f(d)(q)]. Here d is the space dimension, tau(nu) the nucleation time in the volume V, and f(d)(q) a scaling function. Its dimensionless argument is q=tau(ex)/tau(nu), where tau(ex) is an expansion time, defined to be proportional to the diameter of the volume divided by expansion speed. We calculate f(d)(q) in one, two, and three dimensions. The often considered limits of phase conversion via either nucleation or spinodal decomposition are found to be volume-size dependent concepts, governed by simple power laws for f(d)(q).  相似文献

We present a study of the decay B0(s) --> J/psiphi. We obtain the CP-odd fraction in the final state at time zero, Rperpendicular = 0.16 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.02 (syst), the average lifetime of the (B0(s), B0(s)) system, tau(B0(s)) = 1.39(+0.13)(-0.16)(stat)(+0.01)(-0.02)(syst) ps, and the relative width difference between the heavy and light mass eigenstates, DeltaGamma/Gamma tripple bond (GammaL - GammaH)/Gamma = 0.24(+0.28)(-0.38)(stat)(+0.03)(-0.04)(syst). With the additional constraint from the world average of the lifetime measurements using semileptonic decays, we find tau(B0(s)) = 1.39 +/- 0.06 ps and DeltaGamma/Gamma = 0.25(+0.14)(-0.15). For the ratio of the B0(s) and B0 lifetimes we obtain tau(B0(s))/tau(B0) = 0.91 +/- 0.09(stat) +/- 0.003(syst).  相似文献

An analytical solution is given for amplitudes and phases of adiabatic decoupling sidebands as a function of spin inversion time tau. Since all the adiabatic decoupling phases theta(t, tau) refocus at two periods (2T) of the decoupling pulse, the sidebands are located at n/2T rather than at n/T as observed in other decoupling schemes. The real (R(n)(tau)) and imaginary (I(n)(tau)) amplitudes of the sidebands have symmetry R(n)(tau) = R(-n)(tau) and I(n)(tau) = -I(-n)(tau), forming a mirror image between the counterparts of the sidebands. When frequency sweep changes direction all I(n)(tau) are inverted while all R(n)(tau) remain unchanged, leading to pure absorption sidebands with two accumulations as demonstrated by Kupce and Freeman, and to an exchange of sidebands between counterparts. The sum of the real parts for sidebands n = 1 and 2 is almost a constant near on-resonance decoupling, and it increases substantially for large decoupling offsets. The phase defocusing can be minimized for all decoupling offsets by inserting an initial decoupling period with T(ini) = T/2, eliminating all sidebands located at n/2T (n = +/-1, +/-3, +/-5, ...).  相似文献

We report a measurement of the Lambda(b)(0) lifetime using a sample corresponding to 1.3 fb(-1) of data collected by the D0 experiment in 2002-2006 during run II of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The Lambda(b)(0) baryon is reconstructed via the decay Lambda(b)(0)-->micronuLambda(c)(+)X. Using 4437+/-329 signal candidates, we measure the Lambda(b)(0) lifetime to be tau(Lambda(b)(0))=1.290(-0.110)(+0.119)(stat)(-0.091)(+0.087)(syst) ps, which is among the most precise measurements in semileptonic Lambda(b)(0) decays. The surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory is sensitive to Earth-skimming tau neutrinos that interact in Earth's crust. Tau leptons from nu(tau) charged-current interactions can emerge and decay in the atmosphere to produce a nearly horizontal shower with a significant electromagnetic component. The data collected between 1 January 2004 and 31 August 2007 are used to place an upper limit on the diffuse flux of nu(tau) at EeV energies. Assuming an E(nu)(-2) differential energy spectrum the limit set at 90% C.L. is E(nu)(2)dN(nu)(tau)/dE(nu)<1.3 x 10(-7) GeV cm(-2) s(-1) sr(-1) in the energy range 2 x 10(17) eV< E(nu)< 2 x 10(19) eV.  相似文献

We consider the limitations due to noise (e.g., quantum projection noise and photon shot-noise) on the sensitivity of an idealized atomic magnetometer that utilizes spin squeezing induced by a continuous quantum nondemolition measurement. Such a magnetometer measures spin precession of N atomic spins by detecting optical rotation of far-detuned light. We show that for very short measurement times, the optimal sensitivity scales as N(-3/4); if strongly squeezed probe light is used, the Heisenberg limit of N-1 scaling can be achieved. However, if the measurement time exceeds tau(rel)/N(1/2) in the former case, or tau(rel)/N in the latter, where tau(rel) is the spin relaxation time, the scaling becomes N(-1/2), as for a standard shot-noise-limited magnetometer.  相似文献

A parametric method for spatially resolved measurements for velocity autocorrelation functions, R(u)(tau) = , expressed as a sum of exponentials, is presented. The method is applied to a granular flow system of 2-mm oil-filled spheres rotated in a half-filled horizontal cylinder, which is an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with velocity autocorrelation function R(u)(tau) = e(- ||tau ||/tau(c)), where tau(c) is the correlation time and D = tau(c) is the diffusion coefficient. The pulsed-field-gradient NMR method consists of applying three different gradient pulse sequences of varying motion sensitivity to distinguish the range of correlation times present for particle motion. Time-dependent apparent diffusion coefficients are measured for these three sequences and tau(c) and D are then calculated from the apparent diffusion coefficient images. For the cylinder rotation rate of 2.3 rad/s, the axial diffusion coefficient at the top center of the free surface was 5.5 x 10(-6) m(2)/s, the correlation time was 3 ms, and the velocity fluctuation or granular temperature was 1.8 x 10(-3) m(2)/s(2). This method is also applicable to study transport in systems involving turbulence and porous media flows.  相似文献

A relatively rapid phase alternation of the effective field in the time averaged precession frequency (TAPF) sequence results in averaging of the proton RF spin-lock field. The spin-locking of the proton magnetization becomes less efficient and thus shortens T(1rho)(H), the proton spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame. The relaxation time also depends on the ratio of tau(1) and tau(2) intervals i.e. tau(1)/tau(2) and not only on the number of tau(c)=tau(1)+tau(2) blocks, i.e. the number of the phase transients. Experiments are performed on solid samples of ferrocene and glycine and for some time intervals, T(1rho)(H) is shortened by factors of 9-100 compared to the relaxation times obtained in the standard experiment.  相似文献

We report a measurement of the Bs(0) lifetime in the semileptonic decay channel Bs(0) --> Ds- mu+ nuX (and its charge conjugate), using approximately 0.4 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector during 2002-2004. Using 5176 reconstructed Ds- mu+ signal events, we have measured the Bs(0) lifetime to be tau(Bs(0))=1.398+/-0.044(stat)(-0.025)(+0.028)(syst) ps. This is the most precise measurement of the Bs(0) lifetime to date.  相似文献
