A novel aryl trifluorovinyl ether monomer, 1,1,1‐tris(4‐trifluorovinyloxyphenyl)‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethane ( 5 ), was prepared via a multistep reaction sequence adapted from previously reported procedures. Monomer 5 polymerizes by free‐radical mediated thermal cyclodimerization to produce a crosslinked perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) polymer. Substituting CH3 for CF3 did not affect the polymerization kinetics as measured by differential scanning calorimetry. Surprisingly, the refractive index of poly5 (1.4931 at 1550 nm) is slightly higher than that measured for poly6 (1.4876 at 1550 nm) despite the significant increase in fluorine content. Compared to the CH3‐containing monomer 6 , fluorinated analogue 5 exhibits increased thermal and thermal oxidative stability and thus we expected lower optical loss for long‐term high performance applications. Copolymerization with existing aryl trifluorovinyl ether monomers should allow access to new PFCB network copolymers with a tailored performance. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) polymer solutions were subjected to pulsed ultrasound, leading to mechanically induced chain scission and molecular weight degradation. (19)F NMR revealed that the new, mechanically generated end groups are trifluorovinyl ethers formed by cycloreversion of the PFCB groups, a process that differs from thermal degradation pathways. One consequence of the mechanochemical process is that the trifluorovinyl ether end groups can be remended simply by subjecting the polymer solution to the original polymerization conditions, that is, heating to >150 °C. Stereochemical changes in the PFCBs, in combination with radical trapping experiments, indicate that PFCB scission proceeds via a stepwise mechanism with a 1,4-diradical intermediate, offering a potential mechanism for localized functionalization and cross-linking in regions of high stress.  相似文献

A diverse pool of aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether (BTFVE) compounds with reactive pendant groups were prepared in a facile, high yielding three step “one‐pot” synthesis from commercial 4‐bromo(trifluorovinyloxy)benzene. Monomers were confirmed from ATR–FTIR, 1H, 13C, and 19F NMR, and HRMS analysis. Aryl BTFVE compounds were thermally polymerized to afford perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) aryl ether polymers with high number–average molecular weight (Mn) for homopolymers (17,050–27,090) and copolymers with 4,4′‐bis(trifluorovinyloxy)biphenyl monomers (27,860–56,500). The PFCB aryl ether homo‐ and copolymers collectively possess high thermal stability (>299 °C in N2) and are readily solution processable producing optically transparent films. The thermal polymerization was achieved and reactive moieties remained intact, aside from those functionalized with acrylates. In the case with acrylate functionalized polymers, orthogonal polymerization was achieved by first photopolymerizing the acrylates followed by thermal curing of the aryl trifluorovinyl ether endgroups. Preliminary results in this study produced the successful preparation of photodefinable PFCB aryl ether material. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An azobenzene based perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) aryl ether polymer, poly[4‐(phenylazo)triphenylamine‐1,2‐hexafluorocyclobutyl ether], was synthesized by using a palladium catalyzed amination reaction and the 2π + 2π cyclodimerization of 4‐[(trifluorovinyl)oxy]bromobenzene. This polymer was designed and synthesized to permit azo chromophores to be incorporated, thus introducing photoinduced dynamic behavior into the PFCB containing polymer structure. The polymer exhibited a Tg of about 122 °C, and the maximum absorption of the azo chromophores was 407 nm in the film state. A thin film was prepared through a spin coating process, and the rapid growth of diffraction efficiency was then achieved by irradiation with an interference beam. The efficient formation of holographic surface relief gratings was also verified from AFM images, which show regularly defined and aligned grating structures. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The results of thermal and oxidative stability studies are reported for one perfluorocyclo-butane aromatic ether thermoset polymer. The polymer was prepared from 1,1,1-tris (4-trifluorovinyloxyphenyl)ethane by the thermal cyclodimerization of the trifluorovinyl either functionality, resulting in a network polymer comprising alternating perfluorocy-clobutane and aromatic either groups. The results of isothermal and dynamic thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) studies are reported with kinetic approximations for de-composition in nitrogen, along with FTIR studies of the oxidative process in air and TGA/mass spec determination of the gasses evolved from decomposition in air. This article highlights the preparation of perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) aryl ether polymers for a multitude of commercial technologies that are of academic and commercial global interest. In this account, the synthesis of various aryl trifluorovinyl ether (TFVE) monomers tailored for specific applications is discussed. The preparation of PFCB aryl ether polymers and their properties is then presented. This paper describes the preparation and electrochemical properties of new proton conducting polymer membranes, sulfonated poly(fluorenyl ether) membrane-containing perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) moieties for fuel cell applications. The sulfonated polymers were prepared via thermal cyclodimerization of 9,9-bis(4-trifluorovinyloxyphenyl)fluorene and subsequent post-sulfonation using chlorosulfonic acid (CSA) as a sulfonating agent. The post-sulfonation reaction was carried out by changing the molar ratio of CSA/repeating unit of the polymer at room temperature for 5 h and the resulting sulfonated polymers showed different degrees of sulfonation (DS) and ion exchange capacities (IEC). With the increment of CSA content, the DS, IEC and water uptake of the sulfonated polymer membranes increased. Their proton conductivity was investigated as a function of temperature. The polymer membrane with an IEC value of 1.86 mmol/g showed a water content of 25% similar to Nafion-115's but showed higher proton conductivity than Nafion-115 over the temperature 25–80 °C. The polymer membrane with lower water uptake and higher IEC showed similar proton conductivity and methanol permeability to Nafion-115. These results confirmed that the sulfonated poly(fluorenyl ether)-containing PFCB groups could be a promising material for fuel cell membranes.  相似文献

Summary: A novel crosslinkable dendritic polymer has been synthesized by the thermal polymerization of peripheral aryl trifluorovinyl ether moieties of a highly fluorinated dendrimer. The resulting perfluorocyclobutane(PFCB)‐containing dendritic polymer exhibited excellent processability, low optical loss (0.36 dB · cm−1 at 1 310 nm with 1% dye doping), high thermal stability, and good solvent resistance for waveguide‐based photonic applications.

The synthesis of a series of novel semi-fluorinated graft copolymers bearing perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) aryl ether-based backbone and polystyrene side chains is described. This work initially focused on the synthesis of a trifluorovinyl ether (TFVE) monomer containing a bromine atom, which could be employed as an initiating site for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Thermal cyclopolymerization of this TFVE monomer provided a macromolecular initiator followed by subsequent initiating ATRP of styrene to afford the desired PFCB aryl ether-based graft copolymers.  相似文献

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) end‐capped trifluorovinyl ether (TFVE) telechelomer was synthesized in one step via esterification of 4‐(trifluorovinyloxy) benzoic acid. The new telechelomer was characterized by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR), elemental analysis, and by 19F and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The telechelomer and 4,4′‐bis(4‐trifluorovinyloxy)biphenyl (BPVE) were thermally copolymerized via step‐growth [2 + 2] cycloaddition at 160°C. The polymerization afforded PEG enchained biphenyl perfluorocyclobutyl (BP‐PFCB) copolymers that are solution processable and film forming. These copolymers were characterized by ATR‐FTIR, 19F NMR, and 1H NMR. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) gave number‐average molecular weight (Mn) ranging 11,000 to 12,000. Compatibilization of PEG and a commercial polymer BP‐PFCB was achieved utilizing the new PEG BP‐PFCB copolymer, 3‐co2‐4 . It was found that 5 wt% of 3 ‐ co2 ‐ 4 was ideal to reduce interfacial tension by scanning electron microscope (SEM). A series of N‐alkyl/aryl carbazole 3,6‐substituted arylene trifluorovinyl ether (TFVE) monomers were synthesized in high purity and yield from a concise four‐step synthesis using carbazole as a starting material. Condensate‐free, step‐growth chain extension of the monomers afforded perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) arylene ether homo‐ and copolymers as solution processable, optically transparent blue‐light emissive materials. Arylene TFVE monomers and conversion to PFCB arylene ether polymers were structurally elucidated and purity confirmed by high resolution mass spectroscopy, NMR (1H, 13C, and 19F) spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared analysis. Thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis revealed glass transition temperatures >150 °C and onset of decomposition in nitrogen >410 °C with 40 wt % char yield up to 900 °C. Optical and electrochemical studies included solution (tetrahydrofuran) and solid state (spin cast thin film) UV–vis/fluorescence spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry which showed structure dependence of these blue emissive systems on the nature of the N‐alkyl/aryl carbazole substitution in either homo‐ or copolymer configurations. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A family of fluorinated azobenzene‐based push‐pull chromophores with one, two, and three trifluorovinyl ether (TFV) groups in linear and branched architecture was synthesized and utilized as active materials in the low optical loss electro‐optic (EO) composites. The fluorinated azobenzene chromophores exhibited increased solubility (30–50 wt %) in semifluorinated polymer host, such as perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) aromatic ether resin after crosslinking, compared with the commercially available nonfluorinated azobenzene chromophore Disperse Red 1 (1–2 wt %). The impact of this approach on the optical properties on the polymer blends is assessed through optical propagation loss measurements and EO characterization. The resulting fluorinated EO composites showed excellent optical clarity, low birefringence, and low optical loss less than 0.5 dB/cm, while giving EO coefficients of about 3–7 pm/V at 1550 nm. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) derivatives possess many interesting properties ranging from liquid crystallinity, to hole transport, to variable emission behavior, yet are plagued by insolubility and general accessibility of polymerizable substituents. The first synthesis of trifluorovinyl ether-substituted hexabenzocoronene and its polymerization to perfluorocyclobutyl (PFCB) polymers and copolymers is shown. Unlike hydrocarbon ethers, fluoro vinyl ethers are stable under HBC oxidation conditions. Discrete HBC units in PFCB polymers provide access to potentially processable HBC optical materials.  相似文献

Novel polymers containing alternating perfluorocyclobutane and aromatic ether subunits are prepared from aryl poly(trifluorovinyl ether) monomers via the thermal [2π + 2π] dimerization of the trifluorovinyl ether functionality. A model study is described, which probes the nature of the perfluorocyclobutane rings formed during the polymerization reaction. The bifunctional monomer 4,4′-bis(trifluorovinyloxy) biphenyl and the trifunctional monomer 1,1,1-tris(4-trifluorovinyloxyphenyl)ethane are prepared and polymerized to provide thermoplastic and thermoset polymers, respectively. New trifluorovinyl ether polymers were synthesized with the view toward overcoming the high chemical and thermal stabilities commonly associated with fluoropolymers. Trifluorovinyl ether copolymers, with fluorinated pendant groups, have previously been prepared to overcome limitations in processibility. To further enhance solubility in common organic solvents and to improve processibility, we prepared three new trifluorovinyl ether monomers, having hydrocarbon ether pendant groups, for polymerization: 1-[2-(2-ethoxy ethoxy)ethoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethene (Et-TFVE), 1-[2-(2-t-butoxy ethoxy)ethoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethene (t-Bu-TFVE), and 1-(2-phenoxy ethoxy)-1,2,2-trifluoroethene (Ph-TFVE). Homopolymers of these three monomers were prepared by aqueous emulsion polymerization with the use of a redox initiator. Poly(Et-TFVE) and poly(Ph-TFVE) were prepared with a range of molar masses, the highest of which had weight average molar masses of 33,800 g mol−1 and 59,000 g mol−1, respectively. As a result of monomer reactivity and structure, the polymerization mechanism was complicated, resulting in β-scission termination/chain transfer for all three polymers and hydrogen abstraction chain transfer for poly(Et-TFVE) and poly(t-Bu-TFVE). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of hydrogen abstraction from the pendant group of the trifluorovinyl ether itself. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. As the minimum features in semiconductor devices decrease, it is a new trend to incorporate copper and polymers with dielectric constant less than 3.0 to enhance the performance of the devices. Two fluorinated polymers, poly(biphenyl perfluorocyclobutyl ether) (BPFCB) and poly(1,1,1-triphenyl ethane perfluorocyclobutyl ether) (PFCB), are newly developed polymers with dielectric constants below 3.0. These two polymers have a similar backbone structure, but PFCB has the capability of crosslinking. To know the implications of these two polymers in the semiconductor industry, properties that are important for the integral reliability of Integral Circuits (IC), such as thermal and mechanical properties, should be understood. This comparative study shows that the crosslinking in perfluorocyclobutane aromatic ether polymer can reduce vertical thermal expansion and increase glass transition temperature (Tg) while water absorption, crystalline-like phase, and dielectric constant are slightly increased. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Four aromatic dinitro compounds containing oxyethylene units 1,2-bis(4-nitrophenoxy)ethane, bis(2)-(4-nitrophenoxy)ethyl ether, 1,2-bis(2)-(4-nitrophenoxy)ethoxy)ethane, and bis(2-(2-(4-nitrophenoxy)ethoxy)ethyl) ether were prepared by an aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction that involved 1-fluoro-4-nitrobenzene and the appropriate oxyethylene glycol. Each of the dinitro compounds could be reduced chemically or catalytically to produce the diamines 1,2-bis(4-aminophenoxy)ethane, bis(2-(4-amino-phenoxy)ethyl ether, 1,2-bis(2-(4-aminophenoxy)ethoxy)ethane, and bis(2-(2-(4-aminophenoxy)ethoxy)ethyl) ether. Polymerization of the diamines was carried out in m-cresol with toluene as an azeotroping agent. Polymides derived from 5,5′-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]bis-1,3-isobenzofuradione exhibited good solubility in chlorinated solvents, glass transition temperatures as low as 140°C, as evidenced by viscous flow, and good thermal stability; a 5% weight loss generally occured at greater than 450°C. Isothermal aging studies conducted at 600°F(315°C) for 200 h indicated that weight loss is directly related to oxyalkylene chain length–10% for the shortest and 50% for the longest chain.  相似文献

 用溶胶 凝胶 (sol gel)技术制备了羟基 苯并冠醚毛细管气相色谱固定相 ,并测定了它的色谱性能。结果表明该柱具有柱效高 ( >30 0 0 /m)、热稳定性好 ( 330℃ )和去活能力强的优点。与溶胶 凝胶羟基硅油柱相比 ,该柱具有良好的选择性。一些芳香族位置异构体如二甲苯、二氯苯、硝基甲苯和硝基氯苯在溶胶 凝胶羟基 苯并冠醚柱上得到了很好的分离。该柱具有很高的柱容量 ,一些不能在冠醚聚硅氧烷上分离的小分子化合物 ,如小分子醇、酯、酮、短链脂肪酸和挥发性的胺 ,在溶胶 凝胶冠醚柱上有很好的分离。  相似文献

Arprocarb is a carbamate type insecticide used to control cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, and is a lawn and turf insect growth regulator. In order to evaluate the effects of the thermal behavior of arprocarb on its bioactivity or the environment, its thermal decomposition and polymerization were characterized using pyrolysis-GC-MS (Py-GC-MS). Arprocarb was pyrolysed at 450 degrees C, 600 degrees C, 750 degrees C, and 900 degrees C, respectively. In all 71 components were determined. It was found that arprocarb was obviously decomposed when the temperature was lower (450 approximately 750 degrees qC), and a large number of mono- and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were produced at higher temperatures (750 approximately 900 degrees C). Furthermore, the variety of the representative compounds versus the temperature was reported. The research results can provide useful information for the understanding of the thermal behavior of arprocarb.  相似文献
