Amorphous GexS1−x films (x=0.27, 0.32, 0.36 and 0.4) were prepared by thermal evaporation. The values of the refractive index, the optical gap and the parameters of the Wemple–DiDomenico single oscillator model were determined. Using Miller's generalized rule the values of the third-order non-linear susceptibility were also estimated. Thermally induced bleaching was observed for films studied. Photobleaching was observed for sulfur rich and nearly stoichiometric films (x=0.27, 0.32) while for a germanium rich film (x=0.4) no response to the illumination was observed. The differences in photobleaching are attributed to the role of p-lone pair states and to an overall network rigidity of the films.  相似文献

We present two mode solvers applied to a very thin long–range plasmonic waveguide. We compare the guided mode complex effective index obtained either applying a Fourier modal method or calculating density of guided modes using the Green’s dyad technique. We achieve good agreement for both effective indices and mode profiles. We also observe a different behaviour compared to long–range surface plasmon supported by thicker films.  相似文献

MgxZn1-xO thin films have been prepared on silicon substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering at 60℃. The thin films have hexagonal wurtzite single-phase structure and a preferred orientation with the c-axis perpendicular to the substrates. The refractive indices of MgxZn1-xO films are studied at room temperature by spectroscopic ellipsometry over the wavelength range of 400--760\,nm at the incident angle of 70℃. Both absorption coefficients and optical band gaps of MgxZn1-xO films are determined by the transmittance spectra. While Mg content is increasing, the absorption edges of MgxZn1-xO films shift to higher energies and band gaps linearly increase from 3.24.eV at x=0 to 3.90\,eV at x=0.30. These results provide important information for the design and modelling of ZnO/ MgxZn1-xO heterostructure optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

The dc electrical conductivity of as deposited thin films of a-SexTe100?x (x=3, 6, 9 and 12) is measured as a function of temperature range from 298 to 383 K. It is observed that the dc conductivity increases exponentially with the increase in temperature in this glassy system. The value of activation energy calculated from the slope of ln σdc vs. 1000/T plot, is found to decrease on incorporation of dopant (Se) content in the Te system. On the basis of pre-exponetial factor (σ0), it is suggested that the conduction is due to thermally assisted tunneling of the carriers in the localized states near the band edges. The optical absorption measurements show an indirect optical band gap in this system and it decreases on increasing Se concentration. The optical constants (extinction coefficient (k) and refractive index (n)) do change significantly with the photon energy and also with the dopant Se concentration. The decrease in optical band gap may be due to the decrease in activation energy in the present system. It is also found that the real and imaginary parts of dielectric constants show a significant change with the photon energy as well as with the dopant concentration. With large absorption coefficients and compositional dependence of optical band gap and optical constants (n and k), these materials may be suitable for optical disk applications.  相似文献

Equilibrium and kinetic surface segregations in Cu–Sn thin films are simulated based on the modified Darken model for a finite sized system. The simulations are carried out for all compositional ranges and film thicknesses. The segregation energy and the interaction parameter for the simulation are determined respectively by the Miedema model and from the thermodynamic data used for the Cu–Sn phase diagram calculation. The strong negative interaction parameter restrains Sn surface segregation in the Cu–Sn system. The size effect on surface segregation depends on the segregation energy, interaction parameter, initial bulk concentration, temperature and film thickness.  相似文献

In this study, indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films were prepared by electron beam deposition method on glass substrates at room temperature (RT). Surface morphology characterization of ITO thin films, before and after annealing at 500 °C, were investigated by analyzing the surface profile of atomic force microscopy (AFM) images using wavelet transform formalism. The wavelet coefficients related to the thin film surface profiles have been calculated, and then roughness exponent (α) of the films has been estimated using the scalegram method. The results reveal that the surface profiles of the films before and after annealing process have self-affine nature.  相似文献

Transparent conductive Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) thin films were prepared by a sol–gel method and their structural, electrical and optical properties were systematically investigated. A minimum resistivity of 4.2 × 10−3 Ω cm was obtained for the 650 °C-annealed films doped with 1.0 at.% Al. All films had the preferential c-axis oriented texture according to the X-ray diffraction (XRD) results. Optical transmittance spectra of the films showed a high transmittance of over 85% in the visible region and the optical band gap of the AZO films broadened with increasing doping concentration.  相似文献

Thin films of Ag/Cu were deposited by reactive DC magnetron sputtering on (001)-oriented Si and glass substrates for various deposition times (4–24 min). These films were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), and a power law scaling was performed on the obtained micrographs to investigate the self-affine nature of the sample morphology, which is indicative of a fractal structure. We applied the Higuchi’s algorithm to the AFM data to determine the fractal dimension of each sample, and the Hurst exponents were computed. The deposition time dependences of these parameters and the grain size distributions estimated from the UV–visible spectra using the Mie theory, allowed us to describe a particle formation mechanism during the deposition process, in which the length of continuous paths of conductive particles increases as the deposition time is increased. In agreement with this explanation, the electrical resistance decreased with the increment of the deposition time.  相似文献

The effect of varying bismuth concentration on the optical constants of amorphous Ge20Se80? x Bi x (where x = 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 at%) thin films prepared by thermal evaporation has been investigated. The transmission spectra T(λ) of the films at normal incidence were obtained in the spectral region from 400 to 2500 nm. An analysis proposed by Swanepoel [J. Phys. E: Sci. Instrum. 16 (1983) p.1214], based on the use of the maxima and minima of the interference fringes, was applied to derive the real and imaginary parts of the complex index of refraction and also the film thickness. Increasing bismuth content was found to affect the refractive index and extinction coefficient of the Ge20Se80? x Bi x films. Optical absorption measurements show that the fundamental absorption edge is a function of composition. With increasing bismuth content, the refractive index increases while the optical band gap decreases.  相似文献

In addition to the conversion from p-type to n-type conductivity that occurs in Ge–Se–Bi thin films when Bi is incorporated in a certain concentration. We found that, when these films were illuminated to UV light, after being annealed at glass transition temperature T g, the photobleaching is dominant for Ge20Se80?x Bi x (x=0, 2.5, and 5 at.%), while for Ge20Se72.5Bi7.5 photodarkening is dominant. The photoinduced changes in the optical constants were studied. The refractive index (n) has been analysed according to the Wwmple–DiDominico single oscillator model and the values of E o and E d for exposed and unexposed films were determined, respectively. The photostructural effects were discussed in the light of single–double well model proposed by Tanaka and chemical bond approach.  相似文献

Colloidal Au and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) composite thin films are fabricated by spin-coating method. Linear optical absorption measurements of the Au/PVP composite films indicate an absorption peak around 530 nm due to the surface plasmon resonance of gold nanoparticles. Nonlinear optical properties are studied using standard Z-scan technique, and experimental results show large optical nonlinearities of the Au/PVP composite films. A large value of χ^(3)/α up to 0.56× 10-^10esu·cm is obtained, which is comparable to the best values reported in metal/oxlde composite films.  相似文献

Sb-doped ZnO thin films with different values of Sb content (from 0 to 1.1 at.%) are deposited by the sol-gel dip- coating method under different sol concentrations. The effects of Sb-doping content, sol concentration, and annealing ambient on the structural, optical, and electrical properties of ZnO films are investigated. The results of the X-ray diffraction and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS) spectrophotometer indicate that each of all the films retains the wurtzite ZnO structure and possesses a preferred orientation along the c axis, with high transmittance (〉 90%) in the visible range. The Hall effect measurements show that the vacuum annealed thin films synthesized in the sol concentration of 0.75 mol/L each have an adjustable n-type electrical conductivity by varying Sb-doping density, and the photoluminescence (PL) spectra revealed that the defect emission (around 450 nm) is predominant. However, the thin films prepared by the sol with a concentration of 0.25 mol/L, despite their poor conductivity, have priority in ultraviolet emission, and the PL peak position shows first a blue-shift and then a red-shift with the increase of the Sb doping content.  相似文献

Polycrystalline thin films usually present magnetic anisotropy resulting from a conjunction of textures, residual stresses, surface effects, and magnetic dipole distribution. The shape anisotropy, which is caused by the magnetic dipole distribution, is dominant in most of the cases, and it forces the occurrence of in-plane easy axes for the magnetization. Contrary to this common expectation, we have found predominant out-of-plane easy axes in a series of Fe–Ni thin films produced by DC sputtering. Films with different thicknesses, from 40 to 1000 nm, and different deposition temperatures have been tested and show similar results. These unusual characteristics are results of a particular columnar structure formed during the films growth. The magnetic characterization of the samples has been done by Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetometry, and ferromagnetic resonance. The unusual anisotropy observed is not believed to be uniform along the film thickness. This interpretation comes from the comparison of the experimental results with hysteresis obtained by micromagnetic simulations. Five distinct configurations for the anisotropies have been simulated for this comparison.  相似文献

The possibility of controlling near-field radiative heat transfer with the use of silicon carbide thin films supporting surface phonon–polaritons in the infrared spectrum is explored. For this purpose, the local density of electromagnetic states is calculated and analyzed within the nanometric gap formed between two SiC films as well as the radiative heat flux exchanged between the thin layers.  相似文献

Amorphous thin film Ge15Te85−x Sn x (1≤x≤5) and Ge17Te83−x Sn x (1≤x≤4) switching devices have been deposited in sandwich geometry using a flash evaporation technique, with aluminum as the top and bottom electrodes. Electrical switching studies indicate that these films exhibit memory type electrical switching behavior. The switching fields for both the series of samples have been found to decrease with increase in Sn concentration, which confirms that the metallicity effect on switching fields/voltages, commonly seen in bulk glassy chalcogenides, is valid in amorphous chalcogenide thin films also. In addition, there is no manifestation of rigidity percolation in the composition dependence of switching fields of Ge15Te85−x Sn x and Ge17Te83−x Sn x amorphous thin film samples. The observed composition dependence of switching fields of amorphous Ge15Te85−x Sn x and Ge17Te83−x Sn x thin films has been understood on the basis of Chemically Ordered Network model. The optical band gap for these samples, calculated from the absorption spectra, has been found to exhibit a decreasing trend with increasing Sn concentration, which is consistent with the composition dependence of switching fields.  相似文献

Nanocrystallites of cadmium oxide (CdO) thin films were deposited by sol–gel dip coating technique on glass and Si substrates. XRD and TEM diffraction patterns confirmed the nanocrystalline cubic CdO phase formation. TEM micrograph of the film revealed the manifestation of nano CdO phase with average particle size lying in the range 1.6–9.3 nm. UV–Vis spectrophotometric measurement showed high transparency (nearly 75% in the wavelength range 500–800 nm) of the film with a direct allowed bandgap lying in the range 2.86–3.69 eV. Particle size has also been calculated from the shift of bandgap with that of bulk value for the films for which the particles sizes are comparable to Bohr exitonic radius. The particle size increases with the increase in annealing temperature and also the intensity of XRD peaks increases which implies that better crystallinity takes place at higher temperature. This revised version was published online in August 2005 with a corrected issue number.  相似文献
