The stationary for harmonic maps is considered from a Riemannian manifoldM into a complete Riemannian manifoldN without boundary, and it is proved that its singular set is contained inQ 1 2MQ 3 Project supported partially by the Development Foundation Science of Shanghai, China.  相似文献

The notion of locally weak monotonicity inequality for weakly harmonic maps is introduced and various results on this class of maps are obtained. For example, the locally weak monotonicity inequality is nearly equivalent to theε-regularity. We develop a theory of harmonic maps f:MN between singular spaces M and N. The target will be a complete metric space (N,d) of nonpositive curvature in the sense of A. D. Alexandrov. The domain will be a measurable space (M,) with a given Markov kernel p(x,dy) on it. Given a measurable map f:MN, we define a new map Pf:MN in the following way: for each xM, the point Pf(x)N is the barycenter of the probability measure p(x,f –1(dy)) on N. The map f is called harmonic on DM if Pf=f on D. Our theory is a nonlinear generalization of the theory of Markov kernels and Markov chains on M. It allows to construct harmonic maps by an explicit nonlinear Markov chain algorithm (which under suitable conditions converges exponentially fast). Many smoothing and contraction properties of the linear Markov operator P M,R carry over to the nonlinear Markov operator P=P M,N . For instance, if the underlying Markov kernel has the strong Lipschitz Feller property then all harmonic maps will be Lipschitz continuous.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the Gauss maps of a Ricci-mean curvature flow. A Ricci-mean curvature flow is a coupled equation of a mean curvature flow and a Ricci flow on the ambient manifold. Ruh and Vilms (Trans Am Math Soc 149: 569–573, 1970) proved that the Gauss map of a minimal submanifold in a Euclidean space is a harmonic map, and Wang (Math Res Lett 10(2–3):287–299, 2003) extended this result to a mean curvature flow in a Euclidean space by proving its Gauss maps satisfy the harmonic map heat flow equation. In this paper, we deduce the evolution equation for the Gauss maps of a Ricci-mean curvature flow, and as a direct corollary we prove that the Gauss maps of a Ricci-mean curvature flow satisfy the vertically harmonic map heat flow equation when the codimension of submanifolds is 1.  相似文献

Summary We prove several Liouville theorems for harmonic maps between certain classes of Riemannian manifolds. In particular, the results can be applied to harmonic maps from the Euclidean space (R m ,g 0) to a large class of Riemannian manifolds. Our assumptions on the harmonic maps concern the asymptotic behavior of the maps at .Oblatum 28-XII-1990 & 11-II-1991Supported by NSF grant DMS-8610730  相似文献

In this paper we study harmonic morphisms :U P m N 2 from open subsets of complex projective spaces to Riemann surfaces. We construct many new examples of such maps which are not holomorphic with respect to the standard Kähler structure on P m.The research leading to this paper was supported by the Icelandic Science Fund and the Danish National Science Fund.  相似文献

For k ≥ 3, we establish new estimate on Hausdorff dimensions of the singular set of stable-stationary harmonic maps to the sphere S^k. We show that the singular set of stable-stationary harmonic maps from B5 to 83 is the union of finitely many isolated singular points and finitely many HSlder continuous curves. We also discuss the minimization problem among continuous maps from B^n to S^2.  相似文献

We define two transforms of non‐conformal harmonic maps from a surface into the 3‐sphere. With these transforms one can construct, from one such harmonic map, a sequence of harmonic maps. We show that there is a correspondence between harmonic maps into the 3‐sphere, H‐surfaces in Euclidean 3‐space and almost complex surfaces in the nearly Kähler manifold . As a consequence we can construct sequences of H‐surfaces and almost complex surfaces.  相似文献

In this paper we deal with energy functionals depending on elastic strain and chemical composition and we obtain lower semicontinuity results, existence theorems and relaxation in the spacesH 1,p(; nL q (; d) with respect to weak convergence. Let G be a graph and f:G→G be continuous.Denote by R(f) andΩ(f) the set of recurrent points and the set of non-wandering points of f respectively.LetΩ_0(f) = G andΩ_n(f)=Ω(f|_(Ω_(n-1)(f))) for all n∈N.The minimal m∈NU {∞} such thatΩ_m(f)=Ω_(m 1)(f) is called the depth of f.In this paper,we show thatΩ_2 (f)=(?) and the depth of f is at most 2.Furthermore,we obtain some properties of non-wandering points of f.  相似文献

Let : M N be a harmonic morphism from a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold M with nonnegative Ricci curvature to a complete Riemannian manifold N with nonpositive scalar curvature. We show if the energy of is finite, then is constant. This can be compared with a similar result for harmonic maps when N has nonpositive sectional curvature due to Schoen and Yau.  相似文献

This paper presents several new algorithms, generalizing feasible directions algorithms, for the nonlinear programming problem, min{f 0 (z) f j (z) 0,j = 1, 2, ,m}. These new algorithms do not require an initial feasible point. They automatically combine the operations of initialization (phase I) and optimization (phase II).Research sponsored by the National Science Foundation (RANN) Grant ENV76-04264 and the National Science Foundation Grant ENG73-08214-A01.  相似文献

We generalize this construction to higher dimensions and codimensions replacing the surface by a complex manifold and the sphere (the target space of the Gauss map) by a K?hler symmetric space of compact type with its standard embedding into the Lie algebra \mathfrakg{\mathfrak{g}} of its transvection group. We study harmonic maps from Riemann surfaces M to the loop spaces ΩG of compact Lie groups G, using the twistor approach. Harmonic maps into loop spaces are of special interest because of their relation to the Yang-Mills equations on ℝ4. __________ Translated from Sovremennaya Matematika. We study harmonic maps from Riemann surfaces M to the loop spaces ΩG of compact Lie groups G, using the twistor approach. We conjecture that harmonic maps of the Riemann sphere ℂℙ1 into ΩG are related to Yang-Mills G-fields on ℝ4. We give the sharp estimates for the degree of symmetry and the semi-simple degree of symmetry of certain compact fiber bundles with non-trivial four dimensional fibers in the sense of cobordism, by virtue of the rigidity theorem of harmonic maps due to Schoen and Yau (Topology, 18, 1979, 361-380). As a corollary of this estimate, we compute the degree of symmetry and the semi-simple degree of symmetry of CP2×V, where V is a closed smooth manifold admitting a real analytic Riemannian metric of non-positive curvature. In addition, by the Albanese map, we obtain the sharp estimate of the degree of symmetry of a compact smooth manifold with some restrictions on its one dimensional cohomology.  相似文献

We describe a deterministic algorithm which, on input integersd, m and real number (0,1), produces a subset S of [m] d ={1,2,3,...,m} d that hits every combinatorial rectangle in [m] d of volume at least , i.e., every subset of [m] d the formR 1×R 2×...×R d of size at least m d . The cardinality of S is polynomial inm(logd)/, and the time to construct it is polynomial inmd/. The construction of such sets has applications in derandomization methods based on small sample spaces for general multivalued random variables.A preliminary version of this paper appeared in Proceedings of the 25th Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing, 1993.Research partially done while visiting the International Computer Science Institute. On non-Kähler manifolds the notion of harmonic maps is modified to that of Hermitian harmonic maps in order to be compatible with the complex structure. The resulting semilinear elliptic system is not in divergence form. The case of noncompact complete preimage and target manifolds is considered. We give conditions for existence and uniqueness of Hermitian-harmonic maps and solutions of the corresponding parabolic system, which observe the non-divergence form of the underlying equations. Numerous examples illustrate the theoretical results and the fundamental difference to harmonic maps.Support from the research focus Globale Methoden in der komplexen Geometrie under the auspices of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft is gratefully acknowledged.Acknowledgement We are grateful to Wolf von Wahl (University of Bayreuth) for his suggestion to investigate Hermitian-harmonic maps on noncompact manifolds.Dedicated to Prof. E.
