The formation of a refractive index profile (RIP) in planar polymer structures with methyl methacrylate as the penetrant and
a matrix composed of diallyl isophthalate with maleic anhydride is investigated experimentally. The effect of different factors
on this process is studied: temperatures, diffusion times, diffusion boundary conditions, and ratios of the components of
the system. Some data which give an idea of the optical characteristics of planar gradient-index lenses are presented.

A theoretical model of a new integrated planar surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) refractive index sensor is presented and comprehensively investigated. The main principle of operation of this device is based on high efficiency energy transfer between a p-polarized guided mode propagating in a waveguide layer of the structure and the SPP propagating in the opposite direction in a metal layer separated from the waveguide layer by a dielectric buffer. The high efficiency energy transfer is realised by means of a properly designed Bragg grating imprinted in the waveguide layer. This device is compact, free from any moving parts and can easily be integrated into any planar scheme. Our simulations for the sensor operating at the well developed and commercialised telecom wavelengths are based on coupled mode theory. 相似文献

We present a nondestructive technique to predict the refractive index profiles of isotropic planar waveguides, on which a thin gold film is deposited to as the cladding. The negative dielectric constant of the metal results in significant differences of effective indices between TE and TM modes. The two polarized modes and a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with abundant information of the surface index can be used to construct the refractive index profiles of single-mode and two-mode waveguides at a fixed wavelength. 相似文献

为了准确计算出镀膜过程中每层膜的折射率,介绍了实时监控过程中确定膜层折射率的2种方法:一种是由实测的透射比光谱直接反算出膜层的折射率;另一种是用最小二乘法的优化算法实时拟合折射率。试验结果表明:在线反算适合单点监控,所得折射率误差小于2%。然而在实际镀膜过程中,由于宽带内膜层参数误差较大,一般大于25%。为此,采用最小二乘法拟合,即在整个宽光谱范围内采集每个波长点的信息,所得结果误差很小,一般都在2%~5%之间,有时可达到10%,在很大程度上提高了实际镀膜时膜厚监控的精度。 相似文献

Since the beta function of the electron beam within the undulator has a great influence on the power gain of the free electron laser (FEL), optimization of the undulator lattice becomes important. In this paper, the transfer matrix of the planar undulator is obtained from differential equations of the electron motion. Based on this, the lattice function of the planar undulator in a terahertz FEL oscillator proposed by Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST-FEL) is optimized and the expressions of the average beta function are derived. The accuracy of the optimization result was confirmed well by the numerical method. The application range of this analytical method is given as well. At last, the emittance growth in the horizontal direction due to the attenuation of the magnetic field is discussed. 相似文献

We used the single-beam Z-scan method, employing picosecond laser pulses with λ = 1064 nm, to measure the nonlinear refractive
index and nonlinear absorption in vanadate crystals, which are promising for design of laser sources. We have established
that there is practically no nonlinear absorption in these crystals in the near IR range and that doping them with neodymium
ions leads to a significant reduction in the nonlinear refraction. This effect can be used to partially compensate for the
negative impact of nonlinear refraction on the lasing characteristics of lasers. 相似文献

Kramers-Kronig analysis on the real refractive index of porous media in the terahertz spectral range
We present a terahertz time-domain experimental technique for the detection of scattering from porous media. The method for detection of the scattering enables one to make a decision when Fresnel or Kramers-Kronig (K-K) analysis can be applied for a porous medium. In this study the real refractive index of a tablet is calculated using the conventional K-K dispersion relation and also using a singly subtractive K-K relation, which are applied to the extinction coefficient obtained from the Beer-Lambert law. The advantage of the K-K analysis is that one gets estimates both for absolute refractive index and also dispersion of the porous tablet, whereas Fresnel analysis provides only the absolute value of the index. 相似文献

Light transmission through an inhomogeneous waveguide whose refractive index profile can be represented by one-dimensional hyperbolic secant function is analysed from a geometrical optics point of view. Focusing and collimation conditions are obtained and the design of a light deflector is proposed. Zero-point fluctuations of surface plasmon modes near the interface between a metal and a nonlinear dielectric are shown to produce a thin layer of shifted fluctuating dielectric constant near the interface. 利用传输线技术制备了左手材料,将左手材料与正常材料交替排列组合成平均折射率为零的一维光子晶体.该光子晶体在特定频段具有光子带隙,带隙不随晶格尺度和入射角的变化而改变.通过掺杂技术破坏光子晶体的周期性,可在禁带中引入缺陷模,这种结构的光子晶体可用于实现滤波器小型化和超强耦合.研究表明,通过调节缺陷的厚度可以控制缺陷模的频率,这为调节频率提供了一种方法.实验与仿真结果相符.

A method for retrieving the refractive index of spherical particles arranged into ordered structures is proposed. It is based on the solution of the inverse problem using data on the photonic band gap. The solution has been obtained within the quasi-crystalline approximation of the multiple wave scattering theory and the transfer-matrix method. Quantitative results are presented for systems of silicon oxide particles. The effective refractive indices of synthetic opal particles have been found from the available experimental data on the spectral position of the photonic band gap. The described technique is applicable for retrieving not only the refractive index of particles but also other characteristics of ordered particulate structures from the coherent transmittance spectra. 相似文献

Because of the geometric features of both rod and shell, dielectric-silver core–shell ellipsoidal nanostructure with 12–40 nm
semi-major axis may bring forth four surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption peaks at most. Theoretical calculations based
on quasi-static approximation show that there is surrounding refractive index-dependent plasmon blending and splitting in
the absorption spectra, which makes the number of plasmon band of the silver ellipsoidal nanoshell is tunable. The sensitivity
of the plasmon blending and splitting to the surrounding refractive index may be improved by increasing the shell thickness,
aspect ratio or core refractive index. This local refractive index dependent-plasmon blending and splitting presents a new

In this paper, a photonic crystal waveguide platform on silicon-on-insulator substrate is proposed in order to realize a highly sensitive refractive index based biosensor. Following the design, the analysis of the sensor structure are made by using the three dimensional Finite Difference Time Domain method. The principle of sensing is based on the change in refractive index, which in turn changes the output spectrum of the waveguide. Results show that the sensitivity of the sensor depends mainly on the geometrical properties of the defect region of the photonic crystal structure. The phenomenon is verified for various samples having refractive index ranging from 1 (air) to 1.57 (Bovine serum albumin). Further, the structure is compared with few other conventional photonic crystal waveguide designs to analyze the sensing performance. The estimated value of sensitivity of the sensor is found to be 260 nm/RIU with a detection limit of 0.001 RIU. This high sensitivity can enhance the performance of low-concentration analytes detection. 相似文献

A novel method for designing chalcogenide long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensors based on the dual-peak resonance effect of the LPFG near the phase matching turning point (PMTP) is presented. Refractive index sensing in a high-refractive-index chalcogenide fiber is achieved with a coated thinly clad film. The dual-peak resonant characteristics near the PMTP and the refractive index sensing properties of the LPFG are analyzed first by the phase-matching condition of the LPFG. The effects of film parameters and cladding radius on the sensitivity of refractive index sensing are further discussed. The sensor is optimized by selecting the appropriate film parameters and cladding radius. Simulation results show that the ambient refractive index sensitivity of a dual-peak coated thinly clad chalcogenide LPFG at the PMTP can be 2400 nm/RIU, which is significantly higher than that of non-optimized gratings. It has great application potential in the field of chemical sensing and biosensors. 相似文献

In this paper we investigate the band structure of guided modes in a segmented planar waveguide for the terahertz range. The dispersion curves are obtained using two different methods. The first approach is based on a close relationship between the band structure and narrow resonances in transmission spectra: transmission spectra are therefore calculated using a transfer matrix method and compared to the experimental ones. The second technique involves a modal analysis approach of diffraction gratings and it is used for direct calculation of the band structure. Propagation of THz guided waves along the grating considered as a segmented dielectric waveguide is also investigated using a bi-directional mode expansion and propagation method. A simple and reliable method for measuring the refractive indices of plate samples is introduced. The method exploits the maximum separation distance of the beams reflected from the surfaces of the plate. A search-and-track algorithm is proposed for controlling the number of guided modes of planar optical waveguides with arbitrary refractive index profiles. The algorithm starts with an initial guess point in the parameter space that supports a specific number of guided modes. Then, it searches for, and tracks, the boundaries of this space or another space supporting different number of modes. It does so by monitoring the sign of a unified cutoff dispersion function. The algorithm is applied to both symmetric and asymmetric silicon-based parabolic-index waveguides. It shows that unlike asymmetric waveguides, the single-mode condition of symmetric waveguides is controlled by TM-, as opposed to TE-, polarization. This abnormal polarization control is strongest for high index contrast waveguides of sub-micrometer core sizes. The results are verified by full-vectorial beam propagation method. 相似文献
