We present the essential principles of torsion-detection physics and evaluate several conceivable types of experiments and observations for actually detecting torsion fields, reemphasizing also the evident impossibility of successfully searching for its manifestations among cosmological relics. In particular, a polarized body, with net intrinsic (fundamental-particle) spin, is essential for detecting a torsion field. One which possesses only orbital angular momentum—rotation—or an unpolarized intrinsic spin density will not feel torsion. The fundamental problem in searching for such fields is the extremely small basic unit of the coupling or interaction energy between the torsion field and spin,(8G/c 2)( 2/4). The best way of maximizing the total interaction energy is to increase the spin density of the source s, and, at the same time the spin numberS D of the detector.This essay was awarded an honorable mention in 1984 by the Gravity Research Foundation—Ed.  相似文献

The central limit theorem of Cushen and Hudson is reformulated on the algebra of the CCR. Namely, for a gauge invariant state , the weighted convolutions n of the central limit tend to the quasi-free reduction Q of pointwise. It is proved that if the initial relative entropy S(, Q ) is finite, then S( n , Q ) goes to 0 and so n Q 0. No restriction on the dimension of the test function space is made.  相似文献

In a recent note Barber showed, for a spin-1/2 Ising system with ferromagnetic pair interactions, that some critical exponents of the triplet order parameter i j k are the same as those of the magnetization i . Here we prove such results for all odd correlations and dispense with the requirement of pair interactions. We also prove that the critical temperatureT c , defined as the temperature below which there is a spontaneous magnetization, is for fixed even spin interactionsJ e independent of the way in which the odd interactionsJ o approach zero from above. This is achieved by using only the simplest, Griffiths-Kelley-Sherman (GKS), inequalities, which apply to the most general many-spin, ferromagnetic interactions.Research supported in part by NSF Grant #MPS 75-20638.  相似文献

In this note we study M.F. Shirokov's One New Effect of Einstein's theory of Gravitation in the Kerr field. We confine ourselves to a circular trajectory (r=const) in the plane=/2. In the limit that terms of the second order and higher ina/r (a is the angular momentum per unit mass) are negligible we find an additional shift betweenT andT r (orT ) of amount –(8a/r)(m/r) 3/2. Thus vibrations lie further behindr(or) vibrations in this case than in the Schwarzschild field.  相似文献

We consider a Lorentz gas on a square lattice with a fraction c of scattering sites. The collision laws are deterministic (fixed mirror model) or stochastic (with transmission, reflection, and deflection probabilities ,, and respectively). If all mirrors are parallel, the mirror model is exactly solvable. For the general case a self-consistent ring kinetic equation is used to calculate the longtime tails of the velocity correlation function (0) (t) and the tensor correlation Q(0)Q(t) withQ= x y . Both functions showt –2 tails, as opposed to the continuous Lorentz gas, where the tails are respectivelyt –2 andt –3. Inclusion of the self-consistent ring collisions increases the low-density coefficient of the tail in (0)(t) by 30–100% as compared to the simple ring collisions, depending on the model parameters.  相似文献

Following an approach of Toulouse, ground states in random 2D Ising ±J spin glasses (without external magnetic field), on square lattices, and with concentrations 0p0.5 of antiferromagnetic bonds are studied by means of minimal matchings of frustrated plaquettes. Lete(p) be the ground-state energy per spin in the thermodynamic limit. Then the well-known equatione(p)=–2+(p)f(p) holds, wheref(p) is the concentration of frustrated plaquettes and(p) is the average connection length between paired frustrated plaquettes in minimal matchings. Introducing (p) as the probability that a frustrated plaquette is matched to another frustrated plaquette by a connection of length (in a minimal matching), the average length(p) can be rewritten asgl(p)=(p). The study of(p) and its components (p) leads to an intervalp *pp 2 (p *0.121±0.008,p 20.161±0.008) where the threshold between ferromagnet and paramagnet forT=0 lies. Analyzing a similar so-called adjoined average lengthl(p) admits further insight.  相似文献

Zero field SR spectra from Cr85Mo15 are well described by the sum of a lightly damped (0.02s–1<1<0.2s–1) and a heavily damped (2s–1<2<15s–1) exponential. The temperature dependence of these components is discussed in relation to the condensation of the incommensurate spin density wave and the onset of the antiferromagnetic state in this Cr-like alloy below TN=120K. Evidence is presented for the nucleation of the spin density wave at temperatures greater than 1.5TN.  相似文献

In this paper we present the results of a search for the charmed strange baryon c + in the final states 0++K and ++. The experiment was performed using the magnetic spectrometer BIS-2 with a hydrogen target located in the neutron beam of the Serpukhov accelerator. A narrow peak in the 0++K state is observed at a mass of 2440 and possibly also of 2310 MeV/c2, corresponding to signals for the c + 0++K and c + 0++K (0 0) decays respectively. The magnetic moments of the proton drip-line nuclei13O(I = 3/2,T 1/2 = 8.6 ms) and 9C(I = 3/2,T 1/2 = 126 ms) have been determined for the first time through the combined techniques of polarized radioactive nuclear beams and-NMR detection. The observed magnetic moments are ¦(13O)¦ = 1.3891 ±0.0003 N and ¦(9C)¦ = 1.3914 ±0.0005 N. Spin expectation values are deduced to be 0.76 and 1.44 for13O and9C, respectively. While the of13O is consistent with the systematics from isospinT= 1/2 mirror pairs, the of9C is unusually large, even far larger than the single particle value, = 1.  相似文献

The generally covariant Lagrangian densityG = + 2K matter of the Hamiltonian principle in general relativity, formulated by Einstein and Hilbert, can be interpreted as a functional of the potentialsg ikand of the gravitational and matter fields. In this general relativistic interpretation, the Riemann-Christoffel form kl i = kl i for the coefficients kl i of the affine connections is postulated a priori. Alternatively, we can interpret the LagrangianG as a functional of , gik, and the coefficients kl i . Then the kl i are determined by the Palatini equations. From these equations and from the symmetry kl i = lk i for all matter fields with /=0 the Christoffel symbols again result. However, for Dirac's bispinor fields, / becomes dependent on the Dirac current, essentially with a coupling factor Khc. In this case, the Palatini equations define a new transport rule for the spinor fields, according to which a second universal interaction results for the Dirac spinors, besides Einstein's gravitation. The generally covariant Dirac wave equations become the general relativistic nonlinear Heisenberg wave equations, and the second universal interaction is given by a Fermi-like interaction term of the V-A type. The geometrically induced Fermi constant is, however, very small and of the order 10–81erg cm3  相似文献

Experimental data on 0 meson polarization in p reaction at 5 GeV/c are presented. Change in 0 meson polarization for mesons produced at smallP 2 and atP 2 0·3 or produced in backward direction in CMS is demonstrated. Natural explanation of these phenomena is one pion exchange mechanism and mechanism of quark-antiquark annihilation as observed for 0 meson production in¯pp reactions.The authors are indebted to Ján Piút, Richard Lednický, V. The usual kinetic equations for the site occupation probabilities in an external field are solved exactly in a simple one-dimensional periodic model with two kinds of atoms using a) free boundary conditions and order of limitsN, 0 needed for a proper treatment of the dc conductivity here b) boundary conditions with metallic contacts and order of limitsN, 0 and c) the same boundary conditions but reversed order of limiting processes 0,N typical of e.g. numerical and percolation treatments. (N and are the number of sites and frequency.) It is demonstrated that though the bulk dc conductivity is the same in all three cases, local bulk properties of the material are strongly dependent on the régime used. The role of the order of all three limiting processes 0,N+ andn+ (Nn+) for local shifts of the chemical potential n in the dc limit is examined (n is the number of the relevant site calculated from a boundary of the chain). It is shown especially that the rate equation treatment (régime a) on the one hand and numerical or percolation treatments (régime c) on the other hand never yield the same bulk values of r.  相似文献

We reconsider the problem of the Hamiltonian interpolation of symplectic mappings. Following Moser's scheme, we prove that for any mapping , analytic and -close to the identity, there exists an analytic autonomous Hamiltonian system, H such that its time-one mapping H differs from by a quantity exponentially small in 1/. This result is applied, in particular, to the problem of numerical integration of Hamiltonian systems by symplectic algorithms; it turns out that, when using an analytic symplectic algorithm of orders to integrate a Hamiltonian systemK, one actually follows exactly, namely within the computer roundoff error, the trajectories of the interpolating Hamiltonian H, or equivalently of the rescaled Hamiltonian K=-1H, which differs fromK, but turns out to be 5 close to it. We study perturbations of the quantized version 0 of integrable Hamiltonian systems by point interactions. We relate the eigenvalues of to the zeros of a certain meromorphic function . Assuming the eigenvalues of 0 are Poisson distributed, we get detailed information on the joint distribution of the zeros of and give bounds on the probability density for the spacings of eigenvalues of . A note on the theory of the successive production of moving striations in the plasma of inert gases
Approximate expressions are derived on the basis of Pekárek's theoretical paper [1] for the period of the maximum tB of a wave packet produced by the passage of a wave of stratification before the aperture of a photomultiplier, and for its time width in the half-height tB. The relaxation time of a wave of stratification, following from the theory [1], can thus be calculated by means of the experimentally measured velocity of motion of the maximum of a wave packet u and its width tB. The calculation is supplemented by numerical data on the magnitude of errors committed by using approximate expressions.

The structure function S(k; ) for the one-dimensional one-component log–gas is the Fourier transform of the charge–charge, or equivalently the density–density, correlation function. We show that for |k|j in the power series expansion of f(k; ) about k=0 is of the form of a polynomial in /2 of degree j divided by (/2)j. The bulk of the paper is concerned with calculating these polynomials explicitly up to and including those of degree 9. It is remarked that the small k expansion of S(k; ) for the two-dimensional one-component plasma shares some properties in common with those of the one-dimensional one-component log–gas, but these break down at order k8.  相似文献

Semi-infinite systems are considered with long-range surface fields B z –(1+r) for large distancesz from the surface. The influence of such fields on the global phase diagram and on the critical singularities of depinning transitions is studied within Landau theory. For |B|0, the correlation length diverges as b –1/2 withb=|Bln|B–(1+r). For finiteB, t v withv =(2+r)/(2+2r) wheret measures the distance from bulk coexistence.
