A host algebra of a topological group G is a C *-algebra whose representations are in one-to-one correspondence with certain continuous unitary representations of G. In this paper we present an approach to host algebras for infinite dimensional Lie groups which is based on complex involutive semigroups. Any locally bounded absolute value α on such a semigroup S leads in a natural way to a C *-algebra C *(S,α), and we describe a setting which permits us to conclude that this C *-algebra is a host algebra for a Lie group G. We further explain how to attach to any such host algebra an invariant weak-*-closed convex set in the dual of the Lie algebra of G enjoying certain nice convex geometric properties. If G is the additive group of a locally convex space, we describe all host algebras arising this way. The general non-commutative case is left for the future. To K.H. Let (G, I, N, S) be an affine topological Tits system, and let Γ be a torsion-free cocompact lattice in G. This article studies the coinvariants H 0(Γ; C(Ω,Z)), where Ω is the Furstenberg boundary of G. It is shown that the class [1] of the identity function in H 0(Γ; C(Ω, Z)) has finite order, with explicit bounds for the order. A similar statement applies to the K 0 group of the boundary crossed product C *-algebra C(Ω)Γ. If the Tits system has type ? 2, exact computations are given, both for the crossed product algebra and for the reduced group C *-algebra.  相似文献

LetG be a discrete abelian group,Ĝ the character group ofG, andl (G)* the conjugate ofl (G) equipped with an Arens product. In many cases, we can find unitary functionsf such that χf is almost convergent to zero for all χ∈Ĝ. Some of these functions are then used to produce elements μ∈l (G)* such that γμ=0 whenever γ is an annihilator ofC 0(G). Regarded as Borel measures on βG, these elements satisfyxμ=0 for allx∈βG/G. They belong to the radical ofl (G)*, and each of them generates a left ideal ofl (G)* that contains no minimal left ideal.  相似文献

UniversalC*-algebrasC*(A) exist for certain topological *-algebras called algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. A Frechet *-algebraA has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if every operator representation ofA mapsA into bounded operators. This is proved by showing that every unbounded operator representation π, continuous in the uniform topology, of a topological *-algebraA, which is an inverse limit of Banach *-algebras, is a direct sum of bounded operator representations, thereby factoring through the enveloping pro-C*-algebraE(A) ofA. Given aC*-dynamical system (G,A,α), any topological *-algebraB containingC c (G,A) as a dense *-subalgebra and contained in the crossed productC*-algebraC*(G,A,α) satisfiesE(B) =C*(G,A,α). Let G be a nilpotent discrete group and Prim(C*(G)) the primitive ideal space of the group C*-algebra C*(G). If G is either finitely generated or has absolutely idempotent characters, we are able to describe the hull-kernel topology on Prim(C*(G)) in terms of a topology on a parametrizing space of subgroup-character pairs. For that purpose, we introduce and study induced traces and develop a Mackey machine for characters. We heavily exploit the fact that the groups under consideration have the property that every faithful character vanishes outside the finite conjugacy class subgroup.  相似文献

We create a method which allows an arbitrary group G with an infrainvariant system ℒ(G) of subgroups to be embedded in a group G* with an infrainvariant system ℒ(G*) of subgroups, so that G α*G ∈ ℒ(G) for every subgroup G α*G ∈ ℒ(G*) and each factor B/A of a jump of subgroups in ℒ(G*) is isomorphic to a factor of a jump in ℒ(G), or to any specified group H. Using this method, we state new results on right-ordered groups. In particular, it is proved that every Conrad right-ordered group is embedded with preservation of order in a Conrad right-ordered group of Hahn type (i.e., a right-ordered group whose factors of jumps of convex subgroups are order isomorphic to the additive group ℝ); every right-ordered Smirnov group is embedded in a right-ordered Smirnov group of Hahn type; a new proof is given for the Holland–McCleary theorem on embedding every linearly ordered group in a linearly ordered group of Hahn type.  相似文献

Separable Banach spaces whose conjugates are isomorphic toC 1 * are classified as those spaces which contain complemented copies of C1. Applications are that every Banach space has the [metric] approximation property ([m.] a.p., in short) iff (ΣG n * ) m does, and if there is a space failing the m.a.p., thenC 1 can be equivalently normed to fail the m.a.p.  Given a graph G, we define its partially square graph G * as the graph obtained by adding edges uv whenever the vertices u and v have a common neighbor x satisfying the condition N G[x]⊆N G[u]∪N G [v], where N G[x]=N G(x)∪{x}. In particular, this condition is satisfied if x does not center a claw (an induced K 1,3). Obviously GG *G 2, where G 2 is the square of G. We prove that a k-connected graph (k≥2) G is hamiltonian if the independence number α(G *) of G * does not exceed k. If we replace G * by G we get a well known result of Chvátal and Erdo?s. If G is claw-free and G * is replaced by G 2 then we obtain a result of Ainouche, Broersma and Veldman. LetG ⊂ Aut ℳ be a countable group, ℳ a Von Neumann algebra. LetE be a set of pure states on ℳ such thatG*EE, S G be the set ofG invariant states on ℳ andS E G =S Gw* cl coE. We investigate in this paper some geometric properties for the setS E G which turn out to be equivalent to amenability for the groupG. For example, we show thatS E G ⊂ ℳ* (S E G has the WRNP) implies that ℳ contains minimal projections (ê containsfinite G invariant orbits) hold true, for all ℳ iffG is amenable. Furthermore we show that ifG is amenable thenS GM * contains a big set, thus improving results obtained by Ching Chou in [2]. These results imply that no action of an amenable countable groupG on an arbitraryW* algebra ℳ iss — strongly ergodic. Moreover cardS GM * ≧2 c (see M. Choda [4], K. Schmidt [21] and compare with A. Let be a domain with smooth boundary and let α be a C 2- diffeomorphism on satisfying the Carleman condition .We denote by the C*-algebra generated by the Bergman projection of G, all multiplication operators aI and the operator where is the Jacobian of α. For a locally compact group G, the measure convolution algebra M(G) carries a natural coproduct. In previous work, we showed that the canonical predual C 0(G) of M(G) is the unique predual which makes both the product and the coproduct on M(G) weak*-continuous. Given a discrete semigroup S, the convolution algebra 1(S) also carries a coproduct. In this paper we examine preduals for 1(S) making both the product and the coproduct weak*-continuous. Under certain conditions on S, we show that 1(S) has a unique such predual. Such S include the free semigroup on finitely many generators. In general, however, this need not be the case even for quite simple semigroups and we construct uncountably many such preduals on 1(S) when S is either ℤ+×ℤ or (ℕ,⋅).  相似文献

 Let X be one of the Banach spaces c 0 , ℓ p , 1≤p<∞; Ω⊂X pseudoconvex open, a holomorphic Banach vector bundle with a Banach Lie group G * for structure group. We show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G * (which we also prove for G * a solvable Lie group) implies the vanishing of the sheaf cohomology groups H q (Ω, 𝒪 E ), q≥1, with coefficients in the sheaf of germs of holomorphic sections of E. Further, letting 𝒪Γ (𝒞Γ) be the sheaf of germs of holomorphic (continuous) sections of a Banach Lie group bundle Γ→Ω with Banach Lie groups G, G * for fiber group and structure group, we show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G, G * (which we prove again for G, G * solvable Lie groups) implies the injectivity (and for X=ℓ1 also the surjectivity) of the Grauert–Oka map H 1 (Ω, 𝒪Γ)→H 1 (Ω, 𝒞Γ) of multiplicative cohomology sets. . In this work we consider finite undirected simple graphs. If G=(V,E) is a graph we denote by α(G) the stability number of G. For any vertex x let N[x] be the union of x and the neighborhood N(x). For each pair of vertices ab of G we associate the set J(a,b) as follows. J(a,b)={uN[a]∩N[b]∣N(u)⊆N[a]∪N[b]}. Given a graph G, its partially squareG * is the graph obtained by adding an edge uv for each pair u,v of vertices of G at distance 2 whenever J(u,v) is not empty. In the case G is a claw-free graph, G * is equal to G 2. If G is k-connected, we cover the vertices of G by at most ⌈α(G *)/k⌉ cycles, where α(G *) is the stability number of the partially square graph of G. In this paper, we prove a covariant version of the Stinespring theorem for Hilbert C*-modules.  We study the local operator space structure of nuclear C * -algebras. It is shown that a C * -algebra is nuclear if and only if it is an 𝒪ℒ∞,λ space for some (and actually for every) λ>6. The 𝒪ℒ constant λ provides an interesting invariant
for nuclear C * -algebras. Indeed, if 𝒜 is a nuclear C * -algebra, then we have 1≤𝒪ℒ(𝒜)≤6, and if 𝒜 is a unital nuclear C * -algebra with , we show that 𝒜 must be stably finite. We also investigate the connection between the rigid 𝒪ℒ∞,1+ structure and the rigid complete order 𝒪ℒ∞,1+ structure on C * -algebras, where the latter structure has been studied by Blackadar and Kirchberg in their characterization of strong NF C * -algebras. Another main result of this paper is to show that these two local structrues are actually equivalent on unital nuclear C * -algebras. We obtain this by showing that if a unital (nuclear) C * -algebra is a rigid 𝒪ℒ∞,1+ space, then it is inner quasi-diagonal, and thus is a strong NF algebra. It is also shown that if a unital (nuclear) C * -algebra is an 𝒪ℒ∞,1+ space, then it is quasi-diagonal, and thus is an NF algebra. Let G be a finite group. Denote by Irr(G) the set of all irreducible complex characters of G. Let cd(G) be the set of all irreducible complex character degrees of G forgetting multiplicities, that is, cd(G) = {χ(1) : χ ∈ Irr(G)} and let cd *(G) be the set of all irreducible complex character degrees of G counting multiplicities. Let H be an alternating group of degree at least 5, a sporadic simple group or the Tits group. In this paper, we will show that if G is a non-abelian simple group and cd(G) í cd(H)cd(G)\subseteq cd(H) then G must be isomorphic to H. As a consequence, we show that if G is a finite group with cd*(G) í cd*(H)cd^*(G)\subseteq cd^*(H) then G is isomorphic to H. This gives a positive answer to Question 11.8 (a) in (Unsolved problems in group theory: the Kourovka notebook, 16th edn) for alternating groups, sporadic simple groups or the Tits group.  相似文献
