Studies were conducted to measure the effect of irradiation treatment on thermoluminescence (TL) values in dried fruits such as apricots, dates and raisins. For this purpose, inorganic dust particulate (minerals) adhering to the fruit surface was collected from untreated and treated (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 kGy) samples. The TL responses of the isolated minerals was measured in the temperature range of 80–320°C at an increasing rate of 10°C/s. It was observed that peak of the TL signals appeared at 200°C in each case and generally the magnitude of the peak signals was almost 103 times that of unirradiated samples. Regression and correlation analysis of the data indicated strong relationship between radiation absorbed dose and TL values at each temperature (r≥0.98). It was concluded that TL measurements could serve as a fast and reliable method for distinguishing as well as determining absorbed dose in irradiated dried apricot, date and raisin.  相似文献

Dried seasoned filefish (Thamnaconus modestus) was irradiated at 0–10 kGy and the identification of irradiation treatment was investigated by analyzing the characteristics of thermoluminescence (TL), hydrocarbon (HC), and 2-alkylacyclobutanone (2-ACB). The TL (TL1), glow curve of the irradiated samples peaked at approximately 150 °C with high intensity, but that of the non-irradiated samples peaked at about 300 °C with little intensity, thus making it possible to discriminate between irradiated and non-irradiated samples. Moreover, TL ratio (TL1/TL2), through normalization steps, enhanced the reliability of the TL1 results. Six kinds of HCs and three kinds of 2-ACBs quantitatively determined for the samples linearly increased in proportion to irradiation doses. In particular, two HCs like 1-hexadecane and 1,7-hexadecadine, and three ACBs, such as 2-dodecylcyclobutanone, 2-(5′-tetradeceyl)cyclobutanone, and 2-tetradecylcyclobutanone, were identified only in the irradiated samples as radiation-induced markers.  相似文献

A study was carried out to determine optimum decontamination dose for a locally manufactured coconut cream powder. Samples were gamma irradiated (0–15 kGy) and ageing process was achieved using GEER oven at 60 °C for 7 days, which is equivalent to one-year storage at room temperature. Iodine value (IV), ranging from 4.8 to 6.4, was not affected by radiation doses and storage, however peroxide value and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) generally increased with radiation doses. In most samples, peroxide value (meq/kg) reduced after storage, whilst the TBA (mg malonaldehyde/kg), indicator for product quality, slightly increased. The sensory evaluation conducted using 25 taste panellists indicated that scores on odour, creamy taste and overall acceptance for all irradiated samples at more than 5 kGy were significantly lower (P<0.05) than the control. However, the panellists could not detect any significant differences among the irradiation doses (P>0.05). All stored products were significantly different in colour, creamy taste, odour and overall acceptance (P<0.05) when compared to the non-stored non-irradiated control. Microbiological count of the samples prior to irradiation was in the range of 1×102–1.7×103 cfu/g with no detection of Salmonella sp. and Escherichia coli. No microbial colonies were detected after irradiation. Based on the TBA and overall sensory acceptance, gamma irradiation of 5 kGy was found to be the optimum dose and lower doses can be considered to decontaminate coconut cream powder.  相似文献

The effect of ionizing radiation /-60Co/ on some chemical changes in potato starch pastes stored for 14 d at 4–5 °C and prepared from the starch irradiated in the range of doses 1.5–15 kGy has been studied. It was found that along with the increase in the doses used, the viscosity of pastes as well as the pH of solutions decreased. On the other hand, the increase in the concentration of reducing sugars was observed. The retrogradation of pastes was found to be inhibited by increasing doses of radiation pointing out that ionizing radiation has a favourable effect on their stability during the time of storage.  相似文献

Degradation of malathion and lindane pesticides present in an aqueous solution was investigated on a laboratory scale upon gamma-irradiation from a 60Co source. The effects of pesticide group, presence of various additives and absorbed dose on efficiency of pesticide degradation were investigated. Gamma-irradiation was carried out in distilled water solutions (malathion and lindane) and in combination with humic solution (HS), nitrous oxide (N2O) and HS/N2O (lindane) over the range 0.1–2 kGy (malathion) and 5–30 kGy (lindane). Malathion was easily degraded at low absorbed doses compared to lindane in distilled water solutions. Absorbed doses required to remove 50% and 90% of initial malathion and lindane concentrations in distilled water solutions were 0.53 and 1.77 kGy (malathion) and 17.97 and 28.79 kGy (lindane), respectively. The presence of HS, N2O and HS/N2O additives in aqueous solutions, significantly improved the effectiveness of radiolytic degradation of lindane. Chemical analysis of the pesticides and the by-products resulted from the radiolytic degradation were made using a gas chromatography associated with mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Additionally, the final degradation products of irradiation as detected by ion chromatography (IC) were acetic acid and traces of some anions (phosphate and chloride).  相似文献

The effect of various temperature treatments on TL response characteristics of CaSO4: Dy has been investigated for its reusability when the phosphor has been previously irradiated to increasingly higher gamma doses. In practice, annealing at a standard temperature, namely 400 °C, usually precedes the use or reuse of the phosphor. However, the study demonstrates that the phosphor with a previous history of high accumulated doses does not completely retain its original TL response characteristics with 400 °C treatment unless the phosphor is treated at an elevated temperature, namely 650 °C.  相似文献

The regularities of H2, CO, and CH4 formation at -radiolysis of brown coals, hard coal, petroleum-bituminous rock, petroleum bitumen, tar, and petroleum residue have been studied at room temperature, absorbed radiation dose 30–2400 kGy, dose intensity 1.6–21.1 kGy/h. The radiation-chemical yields of these gases were found to constitute °Gr0.005–0.07 mol/100 eV for coals, and °Gr0.3–0.6 mol/100 eV for petroleum residues.  相似文献

Irradiation at medium doses in combination with cryogenic condition along the process to ensure the safety, quality and to extend the shelf-life of prepared meals have been investigated. Semi-concentrated black, ox-tail, chicken vegetable and chicken sweet corn soups were individually packed in a dry laminate pouch of PET 12 μ/LDPE adh.2 μ/Al–foil 7 μ/LDPE adh/LLDPE (C4) 50 μ under vacuum followed by freezing for 24 h at −18 °C prior to irradiation with doses of 1, 3, 5 and 7 kGy at cryogenic condition (−79 °C), respectively. Both the non-irradiated and irradiated prepared meals were then stored in refrigerator at 5±2 °C. Non-irradiated and the irradiated samples at 1 kGy were mostly damaged after a week of storage. Gamma irradiation at doses of 5–7 kGy for the soups could reduce microbial load by about 2–3 log cycles, respectively, without affecting the physical–chemical parameters and palatability within 2–3 months while the unirradiated samples could only withstand for 1 month storage time.  相似文献

The radiation-crosslinked polyethersulfone (RX-PES) films were prepared by means of electron-beam irradiation under nitrogen atmosphere at 230 °C, where the temperature is around the glass transition temperature of PES (222 °C). The gel formation of RX-PES films was observed when the absorbed doses exceeded 300 kGy, which indicated the crosslinking structure formation. The G(S) of 0.10 and G(X) of 0.23 were calculated according to the Y-crosslinking mechanism. The irradiation was also performed at ambient temperature for comparison. There was no gel formation of the irradiated films even for the absorbed doses as high as 2250 kGy. The thermal properties of the original and irradiated PES films were measured by means of DSC and TGA analyses. The chemical structure of the original and the irradiated films was analyzed by means of FT-IR ATR and UV-vis spectroscopies.  相似文献

The differences in bound water content of beef semimembranous muscle samples obtained from previously chilled (24 h at +4°C) middle-aged beef carcasses were determined by the use of DSC. Initially, samples obtained from fresh, unprocessed meat were frozen at –40, –50 or –65°C to determine their melting peaks for freezable water (free water) content with the use of DSC. The samples were then subjected to an environment with an ambient temperature of –30, –35, –40 or –45°C, with no air circulation, or with an air circulation speed of 2 m s–1, until a thermal core temperature of –18°C was attained; this was followed by thawing the samples until a thermal core temperature of 0°C was reached. This process was followed by subjecting the samples to the ambient temperatures mentioned above, to accomplish complete freezing and thawing of the samples, with DSC, and thereby determination of the freezable water contents, which were then used to determine the peaks of melting. The calculated peak areas were divided by the latent heat of melting for pure water, to determine the freezable water contents of the samples. The percentage freezable water content of each sample was determined by dividing its freezable water content by its total water content; and the bound water content of each sample was determined by subtracting the percentage free water content from the total. In view of the fact that the free water content of a sample is completely in the frozen phase at temperatures of –40°C and below, the calculations of free and bound water contents of the samples were based on the averages of values obtained at three different temperatures.  相似文献

High precision densities of sodium chloride solutions at a constant pressure of 200 bar and temperatures between 175°C and 350°C have been measured by a mercury displacement technique. The densities have been converted to apparent molar volumes. The apparent molar volumes decrease with increasing temperature and decreasing concentration whereas the concentration effect increases with temperature. Standard partial molar volumes range from 8.0 cm3-mol–1 at 175°C to –600 cm3-mol–1 at 350°C. The results indicate the applicability of the unextended Debye-Hückel limiting law up to concentrations of 0.02 mol-kg–1.  相似文献

Post-irradiation degradation of isotactic polypropylene irradiated by Co60-γ-ray has been followed for 12 months. Effects of irradiation doses (10–100 kGy) up on the change of the structure and mechanical properties as well as flowability of this polymer has been studied. Carbonyl index increases with increasing post-irradiation time. The rate of which was much higher for doses above 50 kGy. Tensile strength declines with time and those samples irradiated above 50 kGy become quite brittle, just after irradiation. Results reveal that post-irradiation degradation of polypropylene irradiated by γ-ray occurs via chain scission mechanism.  相似文献

Thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics were investigated for minerals, which were separated from potatoes irradiated at 0–1 kGy of different origins of production in Korea. The polyminerals analyzed by X-ray diffractometer were mainly composed of quartz and feldspar, and showed varied contents with producing origins, that contributed to typical TL responses to irradiation. The glow curve of irradiated samples at 0.05–1 kGy peaked at approximately 200°C with high intensity, but that of non-irradiated potatoes was observed at approximately 300°C with low intensity. Discrimination between irradiated (more than 0.05 kGy) and non-irradiated samples was possible just on the basis of the first glow curve, however, normalization of results through a re-irradiation step greatly improved their reliability. The signal intensity of TL decreased with the lapse of post-irradiation time under different storage conditions (0±0.5°C/dark room, 25±5°C/dark room and 25±5°C/naturally lighted room) but was still distinguishable from that of the non-irradiated sample even after one year.  相似文献

Thermoluminescence(TL) analysis was applied to detect irradiated Korean traditional condiments and soup mixes containing salt(NaCl). These food items, which are commercially irradiated in Korea, showed a consistently high correlation(R2) between the absorbed doses and the corresponding TL responses. It was proved that table salt played a role as an in-built indicator in TL measurements and its concentration in test samples was proposed as a correction factor for varying conditions of TL measurements. Pre-established threshold values were successfully adopted to identify 167 coded samples of Ramen soup mixes, both non-irradiated and irradiated with gamma and electron-beam energy. The TL intensity of irradiated soup mixes decreased with the lapse of time, but was still distinguishable from that of the non-irradiated samples at the fourth month of ambient storage. Expected estimates of absorbed doses, 2.85 and 4.75 kGv were obtained using a quadratic equation with average values of 1.57 and 4.90 kGy, respectively.  相似文献

Polypropylene films were modified with 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) and oligo (ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) using the pre-irradiation method with gamma-rays (one step method). The effect of absorbed dose from 10 to 100 kGy, temperature (50, 60, and 70 °C), monomer concentration between 12.5% and 62.5%, monomers ratio from 10% to 90% and reaction time from 5 to 50 h; on the degree of grafting was determined. The grafted samples were analyzed by FTIR-ATR, TGA, DSC, swelling, and contact angle. Grafts onto polymeric films between 3% and 109% were obtained at doses from 10 to 100 kGy and a dose rate around 7.4 kGy/h. The graft percent increased with the content in HEMA in the HEMA:OEGMA feed mixture, which indicates a lower reactivity of OEGMA compared to HEMA. The hydrogel layer grafted on the polypropylene substrate increases the hydrophilicity of the surface and also provides certain temperature-responsiveness, which may be of interest for biomedical applications.  相似文献

Poly(2-methylpentamethylene terephthalamide) (Nylon M5T) is a new high temperature aromatic polyamide developed by Hoechst Celanese. In this paper thermal properties of Nylon M5T chips, as well as as-spun and drawn fibers were studied by DSC, DMA, hot stage microscopy and WAXS.T g of the fully amorphous Nylon M5T is 143°C when measured by DSC;T g increases with crystallinity to 151°C. The temperature dependence of the solid and melt specific heat capacities has also been determined. The heat capacity increase at the glass transition of the amorphous polymer is 103.9 J °C–1 mol–1.T g by DMA for the as-spun fiber is 155°C, for a drawn fiber is 180°C. Three secondary transitions were observed by DMA in addition to the glass transition. These correspond to a local mode relaxation of the methylene groups at –120°C, onset of rotation of the amide-groups at –65°C and the onset of the rotation of the phenylenegroups (at 63°C). The crystallinity of Nylon M5T strongly depends on the rate of cooling from the melt. The isothermal crystallization data are melt temperature dependent: two-dimensional crystallization takes place when the samples are crystallized from higher melt temperatures, and this phase changes into a spherulitic structure during cooling to room temperature. Spherulitic crystallization occurs when lower melt temperatures are used. This polymer has three crystal forms as indicated by DSC, DMA and WAXS data. The crystal to crystal transitions are clearly visible when amorphous samples are heated in the DSC, or the DMA curves of as-spun fibers are recorded. It is experimentally shown that a considerable melting of the lower temperature crystal forms takes place during the crystal to crystal transitions. The equilibrium melting point as measured by the Hoffman-Weeks method, has been determined to be 339°C.Dedicated to Professor Bernhard Wunderlich on the occasion of his 65th birthday  相似文献

Thermoluminescence signals of irradiated and unirradiated spices and herbs are due to inorganic matter grains adhering to the surfaces. This study reports the mineral composition of this dust being, mainly quartz, calcite and philosilicates; it shows the differences between samples exposed and non-exposed to -radiation on the basis of TL signals after long storage periods (1–16 months). A saturation process in the TL signal is found when the samples absorb doses higher than 5 kGy. Finally, the TL glow curve intensities do not suffer significant changes with the dose rate of the -source used in the radiation process.  相似文献

Simple two-parameter Hückel and Pitzer equations were used for the calculation of the activity coefficients of aqueous hydrochloric acid at temperatures 0–60°C up to a molality of 2.0 mol-kg–1. The data obtained by Harned and Ehlers(2,3) on galvanic cells without a liquid junction were used in the parameter estimations of these equations. These data consist of sets of measurements at the temperature intervals of 5°C. It was observed that all estimated parameters follow very simple equations with respect to temperature. They are either constant or depend linearly on the temperature. The values for the activity coefficient parameters calculated by these simple equations are recommended here. The recommended parameter values were tested by predicting the data of Gupta, Hills, and Ives,(5) consisting of cell measurements from 5 to 45°C and molalities up to 1.0 mol-kg–1, and the data of Bates and Bower,(4) which extend to 95°C but measurements were only made on molalities less than about 0.1 mol-kg–1. The activity coefficients obtained by the new equations were also compared to those calculated by the Pitzer equations with the parameter values determined by Saluja, Pitzer, and Phutela(6) from calorimetric data. The agreement observed was excellent up to a molality of 1.5 mol-kg–1 at temperatures from 0 to 60°C.  相似文献

Several types of dry fruits (pistachio nut, dried apricot, almond and raisins) have been investigated for detection of their radiation treatment by gamma rays or electron beam using thermoluminescence (TL) measurements. These samples were irradiated to 1.0–3.0 kGy (gamma rays) or 0.75–3.9 kGy (10 MeV electron beam). Thermoluminescence glow curves for the contaminating minerals separated from the dry fruits were recorded between the temperature range of 50°C and 500°C. In all the cases, the intensity of TL signal for the irradiated dry fruits was 1–3 orders of magnitudes higher than the TL intensity of the corresponding unirradiated control samples allowing clear distinction between the irradiated and unirradiated samples. These results were normalized by re-irradiating the mineral grains with a gamma-ray dose of 1.0 kGy, and a second glow curve was recorded. The ratio of intensity of the first glow curve (TL1) to that after the normalization dose (TL2), i.e. (TL1/TL2) was determined and compared with the recommended threshold values. These parameters, together with comparison of the shape of the first glow curve, gave unequivocal results about the radiation treatment of the dry fruit samples.  相似文献

Thirty hair samples were collected from male opioid abusers for whom the presence of morphine in their urine samples was confirmed by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The hair samples were decontaminated by washing with isopropanol, deionized water, and isopropanol, dried at room temperature, and cut into small pieces. Samples of the latter (30 mg ) were digested by incubation in a mixture of methanol–trifluoroacetic acid (9:1) for 18 h at 45 °C and sonicated to improve the extraction process. The methanolic phase was evaporated to dryness under a stream of nitrogen at 50 °C. The sample was derivatized by addition of N-methyl-N-trimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide (MSTFA) and 1% trimethyliodosilane (TMIS) at 70 °C for 20 min, with sonication. Derivatized samples (1 L) were injected into a gas chromatograph–mass spectrometer (GC–MS) system fitted with a capillary column; the Finnigan MS was operated in SIM mode. Naltrexone was used as internal standard (IS). The masses of the ions selected for morphine and naltrexone were 429 and 557, respectively. The limit of quantitation was set at 0.03 ng mg–1 hair. By using the above procedure we detected morphine in all the samples examined, in the concentration range 0.26–10.31 ng mg–1 hair.  相似文献
