Based on the generalized Lorenz–Mie theory that provides the general framework, an analytic solution to Gaussian beam scattering by a chiral sphere is constructed, by expanding the incident Gaussian beam, scattered fields and internal fields in terms of spherical vector wave functions. The unknown expansion coefficients are determined by a system of equations derived from the boundary conditions. For a localized beam model, numerical results of the normalized differential scattering cross section are presented.  相似文献

Measurements of the velocity angular distribution of a relativistic electron beam (0.8 MV, 6 kA, 150 ns) after propagation through hydrogen gas are presented. At a pressure of 25 Pa scattering of the beam electrons into a preferential angular interval is observed. At 190 Pa anomalously large scattering is observed, up to an angular width of 90°, during about 30 ns.  相似文献

Polymer-supported single lipid bilayers are models to study configurations of cell membranes. We used off-specular neutron scattering to quantify in-plane height-height correlations of interfacial fluctuations of such a lipid bilayer. As temperature decreased from 37 °C to 25 °C, the polymer swells and the polymer-supported lipid membrane deviates from its initially nearly planar structure. A correlation length characteristic of capillary waves changes from 30 μm at 37 °C to 11 μm at 25 °C, while the membrane bending rigidity remains roughly constant in this temperature range.  相似文献

We investigate a beam-splitter experiment implemented in a normal-conducting fermionic electron gas in the quantum Hall regime. The cross correlations between the current fluctuations in the two exit leads of the three terminal device are found to be negative, zero, or even positive, depending on the scattering mechanism within the device. Reversal of the cross correlation sign occurs due to interaction between different edge states and does not reflect the statistics of the fermionic particles which "antibunch."  相似文献

Partial-wave series representation of the acoustic scattering field of high-order Bessel vortex beams by rigid oblate and prolate spheroids using the modal matching method is developed. The method, which is applicable to slightly elongated objects at low-to-moderate frequencies, requires solving a system of linear equations which depends on the partial-wave index nn and the order of the Bessel vortex beam mm using truncated partial-wave series expansions (PWSEs), and satisfying the Neumann boundary condition for a rigid immovable surface in the least-squares sense. This original semi-analytical approach developed for Bessel vortex beams is demonstrated for finite oblate and prolate spheroids, where the mathematical functions describing the spheroidal geometry are written in a form involving single angular (polar) integrals that are numerically computed. The transverse (θ=π/2θ=π/2) and 3D scattering directivity patterns are evaluated in the far-field for both prolate and oblate spheroids, with particular emphasis on the aspect ratio (i.e., the ratio of the major axis over the minor axis of the spheroid) not exceeding 3:1, the half-cone angle ββ and order mm of the Bessel vortex beam, as well as the dimensionless size parameter kr0kr0. Periodic oscillations in the magnitude plots of the far-field scattering form function are observed, which result from the interference of the reflected waves with the circumferential (Franz’) waves circumnavigating the surface of the spheroid in the surrounding fluid. Moreover, the 3D directivity patterns illustrate the far-field scattering from the spheroid, that vanishes in the forward (θ=0θ=0) and backward (θ=πθ=π) directions. Particular applications in underwater acoustics and scattering, acoustic levitation and the detection of submerged elongated objects using Bessel vortex waves to name a few, would benefit from the results of the present investigation.  相似文献

The exact analytical solution for the scattering of a generalized (or “hollow”) acoustic Bessel beam in water by an elastic sphere centered on the beam is presented. The far-field acoustic scattering field is expressed as a partial wave series involving the scattering angle relative to the beam axis and the half-conical angle of the wave vector components of the generalized Bessel beam. The sphere is assumed to have isotropic elastic material properties so that the nth partial wave amplitude for plane wave scattering is proportional to a known partial-wave coefficient. The transverse acoustic scattering field is investigated versus the dimensionless parameter ka(k is the wave vector, a radius of the sphere) as well as the polar angle θ for a specific dimensionless frequency and half-cone angle β. For higher-order generalized beams, the acoustic scattering vanishes in the backward (θ = π) and forward (θ = 0) directions along the beam axis. Moreover it is possible to suppress the excitation of certain resonances of an elastic sphere by appropriate selection of the generalized Bessel beam parameters.  相似文献

The scattering of a partially coherent electromagnetic beam by a dielectric sphere is described. Two methods are presented: a coherent mode representation and a spherical harmonics expansion. In the case of a distant blackbody source, the coherent modes are plane waves and the scattered intensity is obtained by a convolution of the classical Mie results over the source surface.  相似文献

The exact matrix element for the production of two circularly polarised photons in a double Compton scattering when the initial photon is also circularly polarised is calculated. The differential cross-sections for the various photon-electron polarisation correlations are obtained for high energy photons (i.e.) taking only near forward emission of photons. It is found that irrespective of the spin of the initial electron, the cross-section for either right or left circular polarisation of all three photons is zero under this approximation.  相似文献

The effect of random phase ground state correlations on charge densities and elastic electron scattering cross sections is studied for208Pb and40Ca. Modifications of the charge densities relative to densities obtained by Hartree-Fock calculations with a density dependent force are studied using different RPA wave functions. Taking an elastic sphere for example,the acoustic scattering of a submerged object illuminated by a Bessel beam is studied.The partial wave series representation for an elastic sphere has been extended to the case of Bessel beam scattering.Referring to the scattering of a plane wave,the peak to peak intervals in backscattering form function caused by the interference of the specular wave and the Franz wave have been analyzed in geometry.The influence of the characteristic parameterβof a Bessel beam on the peak to peak intervals has been indicated,and a predictive formula of the peak to peak intervals has been established for the first time.Meanwhile the elastic scattering of each partial wave has been separated based on the Resonance Scattering Theory.The influence ofβon the pure elastic resonance has been studied further.The results show that selecting specificβcan reduce the contribution of a certain partial wave.Therefore the resonance at the corresponding frequency and the nearby region in the backscattering is remarkably suppressed.The work of this paper could be helpful to the applications of Bessel beams on the acoustic detection of submerged objects.  相似文献

We study photon correlations generated by scattering from three-level systems (3LS) in one dimension. The two systems studied are a 3LS in a semi-infinite waveguide (3LS plus a mirror) and two 3LS in an infinite waveguide (double 3LS). Our two-photon scattering approach naturally connects photon correlation effects with inelastically scattered photons; it corresponds to input–output theory in the weak-probe limit. At the resonance where electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) occurs, we find that no photons are scattered inelastically and hence there are no induced correlations. Slightly away from EIT, the total inelastically scattered flux is large, being substantially enhanced due to the additional interference paths. This enhancement carries over to the two-photon correlation function, which exhibits non-classical behavior such as strong bunching with a very long time-scale. The long time scale originates from the slow-light effect associated with EIT.  相似文献
