Mode coupling in bent, oversized, smooth-wall circular waveguides was studied by means of numerical integration of coupled-mode differential equations in order to optimize high-power TE01-to-TM11 mode transducers at 70 GHz and 140 GHz. Such mode transformers are used in the mode conversion sequence TEOn to TE01 to TM11 to HE11 for generating the almost perfectly linearly polarized Gaussian-like HE11 mode from circular electric TEOn gyrotron modes. This quasi-optical HE11 hybrid mode is in many respects ideal for electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) of magnetically confined plasmas in thermonuclear fusion research and for other technical applications. Curvature and ellipticity coupling as well as ohmic attenuation of 6 coupled modes (TE01, TM11, TE11, TE12, TE21, TM21) are included in the coupling matrices. Integral expressions were used for deriving the coupling coefficients for arbitrary modes in bent, smooth-wall waveguide. Lowest level of unwanted spurious modes together with highest transmission efficiency (shortest arc length) is achieved with sinusoidal curvature distribution instaed of constant curvature. The calculated conversion efficiencies of 98.0% at 70 GHz and 95.2% at 140 GHz (interior waveguide diameter D=27.8 mm for 200 kW transmission lines) are in excellent agreement with the measured values of (97.6±0.4)% and (95±1)%, respectively.  相似文献

Lasing at resonantly coupled whispering-gallery mode frequencies is observed in photonic molecules consisting of bispheres of 4.2 and 5.1 microm in diameter placed in a silicon V-groove. We examine spatial profiles of photonic molecule modes by use of frequency-resolved imaging and reveal bonding and antibonding mode features. From the lasing threshold characteristics, we quantitatively measure the quality factor and the spontaneous-emission coupling ratio of the photonic molecule modes and confirm that strong coherent coupling leads to photonic molecule modes.  相似文献

Large-area one-dimensional periodic metallic structures were fabricated on a waveguide layer with interference lithography and dry etching. As narrow as 115-nm gold nanowires were obtained with a period of 395 nm, covering a homogeneous area as large as 5 × 5 mm2. Extinction measurements demonstrate the strong coupling between waveguide mode and gold-particle plasmon resonance. We demonstrate good agreement with a scattering-matrix theory. The dispersion of the metallic photonic crystals was obtained by angle-resolved measurements. This method represents a simple and low-cost way to fabricate large-area metallic photonic crystals.  相似文献

We introduce dielectric elliptical photonic nanowires to funnel efficiently the spontaneous emission of an embedded emitter into a single optical mode. Inside a wire with a moderate lateral aspect ratio, the electromagnetic environment is largely dominated by a single guided mode, with a linear polarization oriented along the ellipse major axis. The resulting monomode spontaneous emission is maintained over a broad wavelength range, a key asset of this 1D photonic structure. Our theoretical analysis is completed by an experimental study of GaAs elliptical photonic wires with embedded InAs quantum dots. In particular, the fraction of collected photons with the desired linear polarization can exceed 95%.  相似文献

设计了一种双芯高双折射光子晶体光纤,采用多极法(multipole method)和光纤的模式耦合理论研究了光纤的双折射、耦合长度以及色散特性.数值研究发现,对于空气孔节距 Λ=1.2 μm,空气孔直径d=1.0 μm的光纤,在1.55 μm处双折射度为1.24×10-2;对应x偏振模的耦合长度为21.6 μm,对应y偏振模的耦合长度为24.3 μm. 这种具有高保偏度和极短耦合长度的双芯光子晶体光纤对于微型光子器件的研制具有重 关键词: 光子晶体光纤 双芯 双折射 耦合长度  相似文献

We experimentally investigate the spectral characteristics of side-polished endlessly single-mode photonic crystal fibers of different polishing depths and radii of curvature that are important to mode field diameter, evanescent coupling, waveguide losses, higher-order mode excitation, and dispersion slopes of photonic crystal fiber components. A polished photonic crystal fiber with a greater polishing depth or a larger radius of curvature shows a more dispersive characteristic. In contrast to conventional single-mode fibers, in photonic crystal fibers the evanescent field is more strongly localized, and the propagating light can be more efficiently guided within the deformed core.  相似文献

针对THz波段介质涂敷空芯金属圆波导传输特性的精确分析问题,基于波导中场方程及边界条件建立关于传播常数的特征方程,并且采用改进的Muller法求解特征方程得到涂敷圆波导主模HE11模的传播常数。计算中对THz波段的非理想导体电导率采用经典弛豫效应模型。仿真结果表明:内径为1.8 mm的银波导,当聚苯乙烯涂敷层厚度为17 m时,HE11模在1.5~3.0 THz的衰减常数在1 dB/m以下,且具有较好的色散特性;内径为2.2 mm的银波导,在2.5 THz时其衰减常数随涂敷层厚度的增加先增大后减小,且存在最佳介质涂敷层厚度,可实现THz波低损耗传输。  相似文献

We report an experimental technique to map and exploit the local density of optical states of arbitrary planar nanophotonic structures. The method relies on positioning a spontaneous emitter attached to a scanning probe deterministically and reversibly with respect to its photonic environment while measuring its lifetime. We demonstrate the method by imaging the enhancement of the local density of optical states around metal nanowires. By nanopositioning, the decay rate of a pointlike source of fluorescence can be reversibly and repeatedly changed by a factor of 2 by coupling it to the guided plasmonic mode of the wire.  相似文献

Hybrid plasmonic waveguides based on a surface oxidized dielectric nanowire placed on a metal surface can facilitate simultaneously deep subwavelength mode confinement and large propagation length. Directional coupling based on such waveguides are theoretically investigated. Much lower crosstalk is noticed for such hybrid plasmonic waveguides compared to conventional waveguides based on bare dielectric nanowires. Some modifications, such as vertically placing the metal surfaces or using a metallic block between the nanowires, are studied which can further reduce the crosstalk between two waveguides. The proposed low crosstalk structures based on hybrid plasmonic waveguides can provide a simple platform for plasmonic integration which can at the same time easily interface with traditional photonic circuits.  相似文献

We extend the improved effective index method (IEIM) to analyze the cladding mode of the photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and to predict cladding mode coupling in gratings. By introducing a new step-index fiber model for the PCF, the cladding mode coupling between a LP01 core mode and HE11 cladding mode in long-period gratings formed in PCF is accurately predicted by the IEIM. The fiber model works well for the PCF used here not only in predicting resonant mode coupling, but also in analyzing core and low-order cladding modes.  相似文献

利用光子晶体光纤结构的灵活性和性能的优越性, 设计了一种基于D形光子晶体光纤的折射率和温度传感器. 在D形光子晶体光纤表面抛磨并镀上金纳米薄膜, 作为表面等离子体共振传感通道用来测量液体折射率; 在包层的一个空气孔中填充温敏液体甲苯, 作为定向耦合通道实现对温度的测量. 进一步的数值计算发现, 基于定向耦合效应的温度传感和基于表面等离子体共振的折射率传感相互独立, D形光子晶体光纤同时进行折射率和温度传感检测. 在各向异性的完美匹配层边界条件下利用全矢量有限元法对该传感器特性进行了数值研究, 发现D形光子晶体光纤的空气孔直径决定了定向耦合吸收峰的中心波长和温度传感的灵敏度, 金薄膜的厚度和D形结构的抛磨深度仅影响表面等离子体共振峰的相对强度. 结果表明: 该传感器在-10–80 ℃的温度范围内具有11.6 nm/℃的温度灵敏度, 在1.34–1.44折射率范围内折射率灵敏度最高可达26000 nm/RIU.  相似文献

Our aim is to transpose the polarization control by mechanical stress, usually applied to single-mode fibers, to the (TM(01), TE(01), HE(21)(ev), HE(21)(od)) annular mode family. Nevertheless, the quasi-degeneracy of these four modes makes the situation more complex than with the fundamental mode HE(11). We propose a simple device based on periodic perturbation and mode coupling to produce the radially polarized TM(01) mode or at least one of the four modes at the extremity of an arbitrarily long fiber, the conversion to TM(01) mode being achievable by classical crystalline plates.  相似文献

We strongly couple surface plasmon modes on a thin metal layer via localized plasmons of nanowires to photonic microcavity modes. In particular, we place an array of nanowires close to a mirror and position a second mirror at Bragg distance. The coupling becomes evident from an anticrossing of the resonances in the dispersion diagram. We experimentally determine the dispersion by applying external pressure to the microcavity and find excellent agreement with simulations.  相似文献

As typical one‐dimensional nanostructures for waveguiding tightly confined optical fields beyond the diffraction limit, metal nanowires have been used as versatile nanoscale building blocks for functional plasmonic and photonic structures and devices. Metal nanowires, especially those fabricated by bottom‐up synthesis such as Ag and Au nanowires, usually exhibit excellent diameter uniformity and surface smoothness with diameters down to tens of nanometers, which offers great opportunities for plasmonic waveguiding of optical fields with deep‐subwavelength confinement, coherence maintenance and low scattering losses. Based on nanowire plasmonic waveguides, a variety of applications ranging from plasmonic couplers, interferometers, resonators to photon emitters have been reported in recent years. In this article, significant progresses in these nanowire plasmonic waveguides, circuits and devices are reviewed. Future outlook and challenges are also discussed.  相似文献

本文给出了光纤中包层模的电场形式,指出包层膜的电场形式与弱导光纤中导模的电场形式不同,对光纤中基模与包层模电场沿光纤横截面分布的重叠情况的分析表明,长周期光纤光栅除了能将HE11导模耦合到HE1p包层模外,也可以将其耦合到EH1p包层模。基于耦合模理论的计算表明,耦合到EH1p和EH1,p-1包层模的耦合波长相近,对于典型的单模光纤,当p>4时耦合到这两个模式的耦合系数是可比的。  相似文献

推导了光子晶体光纤中声波微小位移波动方程; 研究了泵浦波长以及纤芯折射率对声波模式的影响; 应用石英圆柱模型研究了小芯径光子晶体光纤中纤芯直径对布里渊声波模式色散的影响. 结果表明在光子晶体光纤中, 纵向声波和横向声波共同作用产生质点声场, 两者相互耦合将产生混合声波模式; 可以通过改变泵浦波长或光子晶体光纤纤芯折射率来改变参与布里渊散射(BS) 过程的声波模式的传播常数; 随着光子晶体光纤(PCF) 纤芯直径的增大, 声波模式耦合程度得到加强, 相速度呈减小趋势, 且同一传播常数下, 声波模式数呈增多趋势; 随着泵浦波频率的增大, 声波相速度减小.  相似文献

Coupling into the slow light mode in slab-type photonic crystal waveguides   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Coupling external light signals into a photonic crystal (PhC) waveguide becomes increasingly inefficient as the group velocity of the waveguiding mode slows down. We have systematically studied the efficiency of coupling in the slow light regime for samples with different truncations of the photonic lattice at the coupling interface between a strip waveguide and a PhC waveguide. An inverse power law dependence is found to best fit the experimental scaling of the coupling loss on the group index. Coupling efficiency is significantly improved up to group indices of 100 for a truncation of the lattice that favors the appearance of photonic surface states at the coupling interface in resonance with the slow light mode.  相似文献

We have used two different photonic crystal fiber (PCF) techniques to make all-fiber mode converters. An LP(01) to LP(11) mode converter was made by the ferrule technique on a drawing tower, and an LP(01) to LP(02) mode converter was made by controlled hole inflation of an existing PCF on a tapering rig. Both devices rely on adiabatic propagation rather than resonant coupling; so high extinction was achieved across a wide wavelength range.  相似文献

We numerically investigate the coupling of TE-like modes and TM-like modes in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal (PC) slab composed of truncated cone silicon rods. In such structures, the classification of TE-like modes and TM-like modes is generally impossible and the coupling occurs due to vertical structural asymmetries. The frequency and wavevector dependences of the mode coupling are discussed by investigating the photonic band structures, and the coupling efficiency is studied by examining the transmittance. The results show that the efficiency of mode conversion is strengthened by the vertical asymmetry and weakened by the clear sinall gap. These structures could be used as polarization conversion devices in integrated optics.  相似文献
