The chemisorption of the allylamine molecule, which contains two functional groups (ethenyl and hydroxyl), on a Si(001) ? (2 × 1) surface was studied using density functional theory (ab-initio DFT) based on the pseudopotential approach. In particular, we focused on the determination of the most stable position of the CC double bond in the ethenyl group and observation of the passivation effect of allylamine on the electronic structure of the clean Si(001) ? (2 × 1) phase. For this purpose, all of the possible interaction mechanisms occurring at the interface were considered: (i) dissociative bonding where the CC bond is parallel to the silicon surface, (ii) dissociative bonding where the CC bond is perpendicular to the silicon surface, and (iii) the [2 + 2] CC cycloaddition reaction. From our total energy calculations, it was found that the bifunctional allylamine molecule attached to the Si(001) ? (2 × 1) surface through the amino functional group, by breaking the N–H bond and forming a Si–H bond and Si–NHCH2CHCH2 surface fragments. During this process, the ethenyl functional group remains intact, and so can be potentially used as an extra reactive site for additional chemical interactions. In addition to these findings, the nudged elastic band method (NEB) calculations related with the reaction paths showed that the parallel position of the CC bond with respect to the surface of the substrate is more favorable. In order to see the influence of the chemisorbed allylamine molecule on the surface states of the clean Si(001)  (2 × 1), we also plotted the density of states (DOS), in which it is seen that the clean Si(001)  (2 × 1) surface was passivated by the adsorption of allylamine.  相似文献

The adsorption of 3-ethynyl-trifluoro-toluene (ETFT) on Si(100)-2 × 1 surface in ultra high vacuum is studied in the low coverage regime, through a joint experimental and theoretical approach. The STM images of both filled and empty states revealed few distinct adsorption configurations. On the basis of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations the STM images were simulated and three main adsorption configurations were identified, with a predominance of di-sigma bonded species that leave the benzene ring unreacted. A discussion of the reactivity of the reconstructed silicon surface towards benzene derivatives is proposed by comparing the adsorption of ETFT close related molecules, like styrene and phenylacetylene.  相似文献

Using first-principles density-functional calculations, we investigate the growth mechanism of allyl alcohol (ALA) line on the H-terminated Si(100)-(2 × 1) surface. Unlike the allyl mercaptan (CH2 = CH ? CH2 ? SH) line, which was observed to grow across the Si dimer rows, we find that ALA (CH2 = CH ? CH2 ? OH) has the line growth along the Si dimer row. The self-assembled growth of ALA line occurs via the radical chain reaction mechanism, similar to the case of a typical alkene molecule, styrene. Our calculated energy profile along the reaction pathway shows that the different growth direction of ALA line compared with that of allyl mercaptan line is ascribed to the great instability of the oxygen radical intermediate, which prevents the line growth across the dimer rows.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to revisit the problem of acetylene adsorption on silicon (100). Extending previous theoretical work and including van der Waals forces explicitly in the simulations we remove existing ambiguities about the adsorption sites. The simulated adsorption energies and scanning tunneling microscopy contours are in good agreement with experimental data, they support the interpretation of a two-dimer feature at the surface as resulting from the adsorption of two individual molecules. It is also found that the simulated apparent heights agree with experimental values, if the actual bandgap of silicon is taken into account.  相似文献

The adsorption of methanol, formaldehyde, methoxy, carbon monoxide and water on a (2 × 1) PdZn surface alloy on Pd(1 1 1) has been studied using DFT calculations. The most stable adsorption structures of all species have been investigated with respect to the structure and the electronic properties. It was found that methanol is only weakly bound to the surface. The adsorption energy only increases with higher methanol coverage, where chain structures with hydrogen bonds between the methanol molecules are formed. The highest adsorption energy was found for the formate species followed by the methoxy species. The formaldehyde species shows quite some electronic interaction with the surface, however the stable η2 formaldehyde has only an adsorption energy of about 0.49 eV. The calculated IR spectra of the different species fit quite well to the experimental values available in the literature.  相似文献

The adsorption of coronene (C24H12) on the Si(1 1 1)-(7 × 7) surface is studied using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Upon room temperature submonolayer deposition, we find that the coronene molecules preferentially adsorb on the unfaulted half of the 7 × 7 unit cell. Molecules adsorbed on different sites can be induced to move to the preferential sites by the action of the tip in repeated image scans. Imaging of the molecules is strongly bias dependent, and also critically depends on the adsorption site. We analyze the results in terms of differential bonding strength for the different adsorption sites and we identify those substrate atoms which participate in the bonding with the molecule.  相似文献

We have studied the formation of Ge(001) c(8 × 2)–Au surfaces on vicinal samples by scanning tunneling microscopy. The vicinal samples are tilted 1° toward [110]. The c(8 × 2)–Au surface is prepared by depositing 0.75 ± 0.05 ML of Au onto a germanium surface held at 800 K. The anisotropy introduced by the atomic steps of the vicinal surface and the preferential etching of SB steps during Au deposition is sufficient to introduce a preferred growth direction for the c(8 × 2)–Au phase. The result is a sample on which 78% of the surface is populated by Au-induced chains oriented parallel to the step direction. These parallel Ge(001) c(8 × 2)–Au domains are separated by single or multiple height DA steps (0.28 nm high).  相似文献

Motivated by the need to form 1D-nanostructured dopants on silicon surfaces, we have attempted to grow Ga on the high index Si(5 5 12) surface which has a highly trenched (1D) morphology. The evolution of the interface with Ga adsorption in the monolayer regime has been probed by in situ AES, LEED and EELS. Controlling the kinetics by changing the Ga flux rates shows an interesting difference in the 1.0 to 1.5 ML region. The low flux rate (0.03 ML/minute) results in a Frank van der Merwe (layer by layer) growth mode up to 2 ML, while the higher flux rate (0.1 ML/minute) shows a transient island formation after the completion of 1 ML. The low rate shows the formation of 2 × (3 3 7) and (2 2 5) superstructures, while only the 2 × (3 3 7) is observed in a wide coverage range for the higher rate. The results demonstrate the ability to kinetically control the surface phases with different electronic properties of this technologically important interface.  相似文献

We have investigated the energetics and the atomic structure of the adsorption of Sc on the Si(001)-c(2 × 4) surface using first principles total energy calculations, within the periodic density functional. The Sc adsorption has been studied at high symmetry sites considering different concentrations. We have first explored the one atom case and then increased the coverage up to a 0.25 of a monolayer of Sc. For the adsorption of one Sc atom we have obtained that the most stable configuration corresponds to the adsorption in the trench between two Si dimers, at the C1 (cave) site. The interaction of the adsorbed Sc with the Si dimers induces a decrease of the dimers buckling amplitude. On the other hand Si dimers without interaction with the adsorbate have buckling amplitudes similar to those of the clean Si surface. When the Sc coverage is increased to two Sc atoms, the most stable structure corresponds to the adsorption at two consecutive V (valley-bridge) sites along the trench between Si dimers, resulting in the weakening of some of the Si dimers bonds. This result indicates that the formation of one dimensional Sc chains on the silicon surface is energetically and kinetically favorable.  相似文献

Using density functional theory (DFT) we report results for the electronic structure and vibrational dynamics of hydrogenated silicon carbide (001) (3 × 2) surfaces with various levels of hydrogenation. These results were obtained using density functional theory with a generalized gradient exchange correlation function. The calculations reveal that metallization can be achieved via hydrogen atoms occupying the second silicon layer. Further increase of hydrogen occupation on the second silicon layer sites results in a loss of this metallization. For the former scenario, where metallization occurs, we found a new vibrational mode at 1870 cm? 1, which is distinct from the mode associated with hydrogen atoms on the first layer. Furthermore, we found the diffusion barrier for a hydrogen atom to move from the second to the third silicon layer to be 258 meV.  相似文献

The atomic structures and the formation processes of the Ga- and As-rich (2×2) reconstructions on GaAs(111)A have been studied. The Ga-rich (2×2) structure is formed by heating the As-rich (2×2) phase, but the reverse change hardly occurs by cooling the Ga-rich surface under the As2 flux. Only when the Ga-rich (2×2) surface covered with amorphous As layers was thermally annealed, the As-rich (2×2) surface is formed. The As-rich (2×2) surface consists of As trimers located at a fourfold atop site of the outermost Ga layer, in which the rest-site Ga atom is replaced by the As atom.  相似文献

First principles total energy studies are performed to investigate the energetics, and the atomic structure of the adsorption of germane (GeH4), and digermane (Ge2H6) on the Si(0 0 1)-c(2 × 4) surface. It has been observed experimentally that adsorption of Ge2H6 is a dissociative process, which first yields GeH3 and then GeH2 fragments as products. We first study the adsorption of GeH2 considering two different models; the intra-row and the on-dimer geometries. Our results show that the on-dimer site is more stable than the intra-row geometry by 0.44 eV. This is not a surprise since in the absence of H atoms, adsorption in the on-dimer site leaves no dangling bonds. In contrast, when the GeH2 fragment is considered together with two H atoms, the intra-row geometry is favored energetically as compared with the on-dimer site, in good agreement with experiment. Similar results have been previously obtained for the adsorption of SiH2 on Si(0 0 1). Digermane adsorption is explored according to two different geometries. In the first one, we have considered the adsorption as two GeH3 fragments, while in the second, we have considered the adsorption as two GeH2 fragments plus 2 H fragments. In good agreement with experiments, it is found that the latter geometry is energetically more favorable.  相似文献

The surface reconstruction, 3 × 2, induced by Yb adsorption on a Ge (Si)(111) surface has been studied using first principles density-functional calculation within the generalized gradient approximation. The two different possible adsorption sites have been considered: (i) H3 (this site is directly above a fourth-layer Ge (Si) atom) and (ii) T4 (directly above a second-layer Ge (Si) atom). We have found that the total energies corresponding to these binding sites are nearly the same, indeed for the Yb/Ge (Si)(111)–(3 × 2) structure the T4 model is slightly energetic by about 0.01 (0.08) eV/unitcell compared with the H3 model. In particular for the Ge sublayer, the energy difference is small, and therefore it is possible that the T4, H3, or T4H3 (half of the adatoms occupy the T4 adsorption site and the rest of the adatoms are located at the H3 site) binding sites can coexist with REM/Ge(111)–(3 × 2). In contrast to the proposed model, we have not determined any buckling in the Ge = Ge double bond. The electronic band structures of the surfaces and the corresponding natures of their orbitals have also been calculated. Our results for both substrates are seen to be in agreement with the recent experimental data, especially that of the Yb/Si(111)–(3 × 2) surface.  相似文献

Synchrotron radiation based photoemission spectroscopy (SRPES) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) are used to study the interaction between Ag atoms and the Si(1 1 1)1 × 1–H surface. At an Ag coverage of 0.063 monolayers (ML) on the Si(1 1 1)1 × 1–H surface, the Si 2p component corresponding to Si–H bonds decreases, and an additional Si 2p component appears which shifts to a lower binding energy by 109 meV with respect to the Si bulk peak. The new Si 2p component is also observed for 0.25 ML Ag on the Si(1 1 1)7 × 7 surface. These findings suggest that Ag atoms replace the H atoms of the Si(1 1 1)1 × 1–H surface and form direct Ag–Si bonds. Contrary to the widely accepted view that there is no chemical interaction between Ag particles and the H-passivated Si surface, these results are in good agreement with recent first-principles calculations.  相似文献

Temperature programmed desorption (TPD), electron energy loss spectroscopy (ELS) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) were used to study the interaction of molecular oxygen with the (2 × 1) reconstructed surface of hematite α-Fe2O3(0112) under UHV conditions. The (2 × 1) surface is formed from vacuum annealing of the ‘ideal’ (1 × 1) surface and possesses Fe2+ surface sites based on ELS. While O2 does not stick to the (1 × 1) surface at 120 K, the amount of O2 that can be reversibly adsorbed at 120 K on the (2 × 1) surface was estimated to be ~ 0.5 ML (where 1 ML is defined as the Fe3+ surface coverage on the ideal (1 × 1) surface), with additional O2 that is irreversibly adsorbed based on subsequent H2O TPD. Molecularly and dissociatively adsorbed O2 modifies the surface chemistry of H2O both in terms of enhanced OH stability (relative to either the (1 × 1) or (2 × 1) surfaces) and in the blocking of H2O adsorption sites. While O2 adsorption at 120 to 300 K does not transform the (2 × 1) surface into the (1 × 1) surface, the influence of O2 on the (2 × 1) surface involves both charge transfer from surface Fe2+ sites and formation of an ordered c(2 × 2) structure resulting from O2 dissociation.  相似文献

High-resolution vibrational electron energy loss spectroscopy has been used to study the adsorbed state of NO on the Si(100)(2×1) surface. At 300 K, NO is adsorbed dissociatively on the Si(100) surface in the disordered structure, and the Si3N and SiOSi species are formed. By heating at 1200–1300 K, the O adatoms are removed from the surface and the silicon nitride is formed; the (2×1) structure is recovered, which is interpreted to indicate that the nitride is formed mainly in the subsurface region.  相似文献

We present an STM study on the domain pattern formation of the Cu(110)–O surface. We found that the separation of the oxygen adsorbate phase into the domain pattern is consistent with a phenomenological model of size-dependent elastic relaxation of the strained surface. We developed a thermally assisted oxygen adsorption procedure aiming to control the size of the two-dimensional (2 × 1)–O islands nucleated at the surface under oxygen adsorption serving as precursors for domain pattern formation. We engineered wide range tuneable (2 × 1)–O domain patterns by controlling the nuclei size and the oxygen coverage at the pattern formation stage.  相似文献

SrTiO3(100)  (√5 × √5)  R26.6 surfaces were studied by means of high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. By varying the bias voltage in the occupied state, it was possible to observe the arrangement of titanium and oxygen atoms in the unit cells of a (√5 × √5) surface superstructure, which revealed that the TiO2 layer is the terminating plane of the (√5 × √5) surface. In the STM images, peculiar protrusions were seen at the oxygen fourfold hollow site responsible for √5 × √5 periodicity. The protrusions are asymmetrical in contrast, which would be an important consideration in proposing accurate structural models for (√5 × √5) surface superstructures.  相似文献

(Mg1 ? xFex)1 ? δO (x = 0.01–0.43) single crystals (~ 8 mm in diameter) were made by a melt-growth method. Electrical conductivity measurements were carried out as functions of temperature and frequency by a complex impedance method under pressure (~ 43 GPa and ~ 673 K and at 0.1 MPa and ~ 1400 K). Our experimental results show a change in charge transport mechanism in the (Mg1 ? xFex)1 ? δO solid solution at high temperature. The temperature of inflection point of the slope in Arrhenius plots depend greatly on both composition and extrinsic factors of crystals. The low-temperature conduction mechanism in (Mg1 ? xFex)1 ? δO solid solution is small polaron. Pressure effect of the electric conductivity was observed and the conductivity increased to 0.5 at log scale of S/m with increasing pressure up to 43.4 GPa. The activation energy was decreased linearly with increasing pressure. Chemical composition and homogeneity of specimen rather than pressure greatly influence the electric conductivity. The activation energy of 2.37(4) eV for the (Mg0.99Fe0.01)1 ? δO solid solution might correspond to a migration enthalpy of O ions through thermally formed defects. It is proposed that a possible dominant electrical conduction mechanism in ferropericlase under the lower mantle conditions, at least in the higher temperature region, is super ionic conduction.  相似文献
