High-intensity multimode laser theory is used to derive the absorption coefficients for 1) a coherent light beam (probe) interacting with a possibly inhomogeneously broadened medium in the presence of an intense second corunning beam, and for 2) the sedibands of a weakly modulated light beam interacting with the medium. The general expressions are specialized to non-saturating probes and the short dipole-lifetime limit, yielding coherent pulsation-dip formulas. These are given for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening and typically consist of simple power-broadened Lorentzians with widths equal to the smaller level-decay constant. The amplitude modulation case features pulsation dips twice as deep as the single-probe case, while the frequency modulation case exhibits no pulsation dip at all. Spectroscopic methods are discussed including the heterodyne advantage obtained with collinear light beams.  相似文献

The general probe absorption coefficient derived in Part I is specialized to homogeneous- and inhomogeneous-broadening limits and illustrated as the dipole lifetime is increased from 0 to values comparable to the level lifetimes. This progression reveals the relation between pulsation dips of the short-dipole lifetime limit and the dynamic Stark effect in general. Interpretations of the coherent interactions involved are given in terms of modulator and Raman effects and of dressed atoms. The single-probe unidirectional pulsation dip is shown to be a special case of the grating dip in which the fringe spacing becomes infinite. Analogies with three-level systems are given in which both two and three-level cases are seen to obey an “equal-area theorem”, and to involve level crossing. Some comparison is made with corresponding spectroscopy in which spontaneous emission provides the probe radiation. Work performed as a Humboldt awardee in Germany. We report on our recent theoretical and experimental studies of three-dimensional (3D) photonic lattice structures which are established in a bulk nonlinear crystal by employing different optical induction techniques. These 3D photonic lattices bring about new opportunities for controlling the flow of light via coupling engineering originated from the lattice modulation along the beam propagation direction. By fine tuning the lattice parameters, we observe a host of unusual behaviors of beam propagation in such reconfigurable 3D lattices, including enhanced discrete diffraction, light tunneling inhibition—better known as coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT), anomalous diffraction, negative refraction, as well as CDT-based image transmission. In addition, we propose and demonstrate a new way of creating 3D ionic-type photonic lattices by controlled Talbot effect.  相似文献

The properties of the coherent x-ray transition radiation (CXTR) produced by intense, short electron beams microbunched in various devices, with periods corresponding to x-ray wavelengths ∼0.02–14 nm and with modulation indices ∼0.001–1, are investigated theoretically. The results of numerical calculations show that, just as in the case of incoherent and coherent transition radiation in the optical and microwave regions, CXTR can be used to study the microbunching processes and may thus find application for beam diagnostics in future x-ray FELs and advanced accelerator technology. 利用惠更斯-菲涅耳衍射积分公式,推导了高斯-谢尔模型光束经非线性克尔介质的表面缺陷调制后的交叉谱密度公式,研究了受调制高斯-谢尔光束的光强演化特性。数值模拟表明:缺陷也可导致部分相干光束在介质后表面产生一个极强点,缺陷越大,极强点越远离介质。非线性折射率为正值或负值的介质也分别使部分相干光束发生会聚或发散现象。空间相干长度越长以及附加相移和缺陷尺寸越大,光场受调制越厉害。  相似文献

We report the experimental observation of the dynamic pattern formation of a broad coherent light beam in a biased photorefractive crystal due to the spatiotemporal modulation instability. When the nonlinearity exceeds a specific threshold, the coherent light beam not only breaks up into light spots due to the modulation instability but also fast fluctuates both spatially and temporally, forming an optical turbulent beam, which behaves as a quasi-homogeneous speckled beam or a partially incoherent beam. We investigate the spatial coherence property of an optical turbulent beam from the visibility of the averaged double-slit interference fringe. We also numerically demonstrate the visibility variation of the instantaneous interference fringe of an optical turbulent beam.  相似文献

A cold atomic medium(Rydberg medium) with cascade configuration under the blockade mechanism is considered. A partial coherent light(PCL) beam is incident on the medium, which makes an angle θ with z-axis. We study the influence of PCL field on the transmission spectrum and find high transmission of probe field for PCL field.Conversely, it is investigated that the transparency of probe field decrease for coherent light field. The transmission of probe field is also studied via beam width of PCL field and investigated high transmission of probe field for small beam width and vice versa. Interestingly, the Goos-H?nchen shift(GHS) in the transmitted light(TL) is studied for PCL field. Large negative and positive GHS in the TL are investigated for PCL field and small beam width of PCL field.  相似文献

The conditions for obtaining a high efficiency of energy exchange upon two-wave interactions in dynamic holograms are found by analysis and numerical simulation of a system of nonlinear equations. Use of an asymmetric scheme of beam interaction in a medium with two nonlinearities, one of which determines the amplitude and relaxation time of a grating and the other of which provides phase modulation of the interacting beams, is proposed. It is shown that such a scheme in combination with the specific properties of a medium makes it possible to radically reduce the requirements for the nonlinearity of a medium and the intensity of a light flux in limiting systems, as well as to significantly decrease the time of the transition process. As a result, it becomes possible to attain an efficiency of energy transfer higher than 90% and to increase the corresponding attenuation of a high-power beam by almost two orders of magnitude, which is of interest for optical limiting of intense light fluxes.  相似文献

We present the observation of incoherent anti-dark photovoltaic solitons in LiNbO3:Fe crystal. This new class of soliton states involves bright photovoltaic solitons on a background beam meeting ?? > 1, where ?? is the ratio of background illumination photovoltaic constant to that of soliton beam. For ?? < 1, dark photovoltaic solitons are generated. Furthermore, this novel type solitons are investigated experimentally by injecting coherent light and partially coherent background of infinite extent. In case of spatial coherence of the background lower than the threshold of incoherent modulation instability, these results indicate that bright photovoltaic solitons can propagate in a stable fashion.  相似文献

An earlier microscopic approach to the theory of the averaged resolvent operator for an electron interacting with impurities is formulated in terms of coherent propagators. We study the corrections to the coherent potential approximation arising from fluctuations. For uncorrelated positions of the impurities, the linear, restricted, and general two-body additive approximations to the treatments of fluctuations are studied. For general correlations, the linear and restricted two-body additive approximations are studied. Degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) is applied as a diagnostic to study OH and NH radicals in flames. DFWM is a coherent technique which offers the advantages of a highly collimated signal beam permitting efficient rejection of interfering radiation and requiring minimal optical access. A new approach for studying photorefractive gratings in two-wave mixing experiments by a phase modulation technique is presented. The introduction of a large-amplitude, high-frequency sinusoidal phase modulation in one of the input beams blurs the interference pattern and provides powerful harmonic signals for accurate measurements of the grating diffraction efficiency η and the output phase shift ϕ between the transmitted and diffracted waves. The blurring of the light fringes can be used to suppress the higher spatial harmonics of the grating, allowing a space-charge field with sinusoidal profile to be recorded. Although the presence of such a strong phase modulation affects the beam coupling in a rather complicated way, it is shown that for the special case of equal intensity input beams, the effect of the phase modulation on η and ϕ is reduced to a weakening of the coupling strength. The potentialities of the technique are illustrated in a study of refractive-index waves excited by running interference patterns in a Bi12TiO20 crystal. Expressions for the diffraction efficiency and the output phase shift are derived and used to match numerically calculated curves to the experimental data. Based on the extended Huygens–Fresnel integral, analytical formulas for the cross-spectral density, mean-squared beam width and angular spread of a partially coherent elegant Hermite–Gaussian (HG) beam in turbulent atmosphere are derived. The evolution properties of the average intensity, spreading and directionality of a partially coherent elegant HG beam in turbulent atmosphere are studied numerically. It is found that the partially coherent elegant HG beam with smaller initial coherence width, larger beam order and longer wavelength is less affected by the atmospheric turbulence. Compared to the partially coherent standard HG beam, the partially coherent elegant HG beam is less affected by turbulence under the same condition. Furthermore, it is found that there exist equivalent partially coherent standard and elegant HG beams, equivalent fully coherent standard and elegant HG beams, and an equivalent Gaussian–Schell-model beam may have the same directionality as a fully coherent Gaussian beam whether in free space or in turbulent atmosphere. Our results can be utilized in short and long atmospheric optical communication systems.  相似文献

从理论和实验两方面对非均匀关联径向偏振部分相干光的产生进行了研究.理论上,基于相位关联与相干度的联系,推导出了非均匀关联径向偏振部分相干光的2×2阶交叉谱密度矩阵及相干度分布.实验上,利用一个相位型液晶空间光调制器的不同区域,对入射的完全相干的径向偏振光的两个正交偏振分量分别加载随机相位调制,并实验测量了这种光束的相干度分布及其对光强分布的影响.实验结果验证了光束相干度的非均匀关联结构,并且通过改变随机相位的高斯调制半宽可以改变光束的相干性分布.研究表明,随着随机相位的高斯调制半宽的增加,光束中两点间的相干度逐渐减小,其光强分布由圆环状逐渐变化为类平顶的光强分布.这种非均匀关联的径向偏振部分相干光在激光微操纵和材料加工等领域具有一定的潜在应用价值.  相似文献

提出一种制备Fock态的新方案研究在包含有自相位调制的Kerr介质中两束光的相互作用,信号光场和探测光场初始处于相干态,经由非线性相互作用后演化成为纠缠态.若对探测光场的正交位相分量实行第一类量子测量,信号光场的光子数分布会受到调制.重复上述过程,发现信号光场最终演化成为一个纯的Fock态.这种制备Fock态的原理是基于互相位调制,而自相位调制则起着阻碍Fock态形成的作用.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of light with partial temporal coherence due to depolarization effects in birefringent media. It discusses relations between SHG efficiency fading, light source spectrum, crystal birefringence, and phase matching conditions. The efficiency of SHG pumped by the partially coherent light beam that may depolarize light in nonlinear birefringent crystal is also analyzed. The basic theory of SHG with its modification for partially coherent light with depolarization and some numerical calculations of the SHG process are described. In the present work the propagation of a partially coherent radially polarized beam through aligned and misaligned ABCD optical systems is discussed. The elements of the beam coherence-polarization matrix for a partially coherent radially polarized beam propagating through these systems are derived for the first time. Using the derived analytical results the intensity distribution of the focused partially coherent radially polarized beam after a low-NA lens is investigated. It is shown that the coherence of the light source affects the beam intensity profile at the focal plane significantly, while for the given coherence of the light source the focal length of the used lens does not affect the beam intensity profile at the focal plane. This is consistent with the case of a partially coherent Hermite-Gaussian beam, as expected.  相似文献
