The characteristics of the boundary layer flow past a plane surface adjacent to a saturated Darcy–Brinkman porous medium are investigated in this paper. The flow is driven by an external free stream moving with constant velocity. The surface is heated with a convective boundary condition with constant heat transfer coefficient. The problem is non-similar and is investigated numerically by a finite difference method. The problem is governed by four non-dimensional parameters, that is, the convective Darcy number, the convective Grashof number, the Prandtl number, and the axial distance along the plate. The influence of these parameters on the results is investigated, and the results are presented in tables and figures. The Darcy term and the Grashof term in the momentum equation contradict each other and this contradiction makes the problem complicated. However, the wall shear stress and the wall temperature increase continuously along the plate and the wall temperature always tends to 1.  相似文献

We investigate in this article, the fully developed flow in a fluid-saturated channel filled with a Darcy–Brinkman–Forchheimer porous medium, which is conducted with an electrically varying parallel Lorentz force. The Lorentz force varies exponentially in the vertical direction due to low fluid electrical conductivity and the special arrangement of the magnetic and electric fields at the lower plate. With the homotopy analysis method (HAM), a particularly effective technique in solving nonlinear problems, analytical approximation series solutions with high accuracy are derived for fluid velocity and the results are illustrated in form of figures. All these flows are new and are presented for the first time in the literature.  相似文献

The fully developed flow and constant flux heat transfer in super-elliptic ducts filled with a porous (Darcy–Brinkman) medium are studied. Super-elliptic ducts resemble rectangular ducts with rounded corners. An efficient Ritz method is used to determine the velocity and temperature fields. Extensive tables for friction factor–Reynolds number product and Nusselt number are given.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the effects of a small boundary perturbation on the non-isothermal fluid flow through a thin channel filled with porous medium. Starting from the Darcy–Brinkman–Boussinesq system and employing asymptotic analysis, we derive a higher-order effective model given by the explicit formulae. To observe the effects of the boundary irregularities, we numerically visualize the asymptotic approximation for the temperature, whereas the justification and the order of accuracy of the model is provided by the theoretical error analysis.

The combined effect of a vertical AC electric field and the boundaries on the onset of Darcy–Brinkman convection in a dielectric fluid saturated porous layer heated either from below or above is investigated using linear stability theory. The isothermal bounding surfaces of the porous layer are considered to be either rigid or free. It is established that the principle of exchange of stability is valid irrespective of the nature of velocity boundary conditions. The eigenvalue problem is solved exactly for free–free (F/F) boundaries and numerically using the Galerkin technique for rigid–rigid (R/R) and lower-rigid and upper-free (F/R) boundaries. It is observed that all the boundaries exhibit qualitatively similar results. The presence of electric field is emphasized on the stability of the system and it is shown that increasing the AC electric Rayleigh number R ea is to facilitate the transfer of heat more effectively and to hasten the onset of Darcy–Brinkman convection. Whereas, increase in the ratio of viscosities Λ and the inverse Darcy number Da −1 is to delay the onset of Darcy–Brinkman electroconvection. Besides, increasing R ea and Da −1 as well as decreasing Λ are to reduce the size of convection cells.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study boundary value problems of Robin type for the Brinkman system and a semilinear elliptic system, called the Darcy–Forchheimer–Brinkman system, on Lipschitz domains in Euclidean setting. In the first part of the paper, we exploit a layer potential analysis and a fixed point theorem to show the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the nonlinear Robin problem for the Darcy–Forchheimer–Brinkman system on a bounded Lipschitz domain in \({\mathbb{R}^n}\) \({(n \in \{2,3\})}\) with small data in L 2-based Sobolev spaces. In the second part, we show an existence result for the mixed Dirichlet–Robin problem for the same semilinear Darcy–Forchheimer-Brinkman system on a bounded creased Lipschitz domain in \({\mathbb{R}^3}\) with small L 2-boundary data. We also study mixed Dirichlet–Robin problems and boundary value problems of mixed Dirichlet–Robin and transmission type for Brinkman systems on bounded creased Lipschitz domains in \({\mathbb{R}^n}\) (n ≥ 3). Finally, we show the well-posedness of the Navier problem for the Brinkman system with boundary data in some L 2-based Sobolev spaces on a bounded Lipschitz domain in \({\mathbb{R}^3}\) .  相似文献

The study considers the forced boundary-layer flow overlying the Darcy–Brinkman porous medium and gives a quantitative analysis of the nonlinear inertial terms in the Brinkman filtration equation. The inertial terms are shown to be larger than the Darcy’s drag near the porous medium interface. The applicability range of boundary-layer approach is determined. It is suitable in high-permeable media with moderate velocities of an external flow. If it is slow enough, the inertial terms can be omitted in spite of interface effect. On the other hand, fast external flow produces the filtration with large pore-scale Reynolds number; therefore, the Forchheimer’s drag should be taken into account. It is shown the Brinkman term as well as inertial terms have a significant role in boundary-layer formation within the porous medium.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study a boundary value problem of Robin-transmission type for the nonlinear Darcy–Forchheimer–Brinkman and Navier–Stokes systems in two adjacent bounded Lipschitz domains in \({{\mathbb{R}}^{n} (n\in \{2,3\})}\), with linear transmission conditions on the internal Lipschitz interface and a linear Robin condition on the remaining part of the Lipschitz boundary. We also consider a Robin-transmission problem for the same nonlinear systems subject to nonlinear transmission conditions on the internal Lipschitz interface and a nonlinear Robin condition on the remaining part of the boundary. For each of these problems we exploit layer potential theoretic methods combined with fixed point theorems in order to show existence results in Sobolev spaces, when the given data are suitably small in \({L^2}\)-based Sobolev spaces or in some Besov spaces. For the first mentioned problem, which corresponds to linear Robin and transmission conditions, we also show a uniqueness result. Note that the Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation is a nonlinear equation that describes saturated porous media fluid flows.  相似文献

The powerful method of eigenfunction superposition is applied to the starting flow in a sector duct filled with a porous medium. Using analytic eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the Helmholtz equation, the solution can be expressed in a simple series. The properties of the velocity and the transient flow rate are found to depend on the sector geometry and a porous medium factor. The starting solution is then used to construct the solution to arbitrary unsteady flows.

In this paper, we develop the mass and energy jump conditions for a vapor–liquid boundary within a porous medium. The analysis is restricted to a single fluid component and leads to the appropriate jump conditions for an evaporation front. The condition of local thermal equilibrium is assumed to exist in the homogeneous liquid and vapor regions, but not in the boundary region where rapid changes in the saturation occur.  相似文献

A new three-dimensional hydrodynamic model for unsteady two-phase flows in a porous medium, accounting for the motion of the interface between the flowing liquids, is developed. In a minimum number of interpretable geometrical assumptions, a complete system of macroscale flow equations is derived by averaging the microscale equations for viscous flow. The macroscale flow velocities of the phases may be non-parallel, while the interface between them is, on average, inclined to the directions of the phase velocities, as well as to the direction of the saturation gradient. The last gradient plays a specific role in the determination of the flow geometry. The resulting system of flow equations is a far generalization of the classical Buckley–Leverett model, explicitly describing the motion of the interface and velocity of the liquid close to it. Apart from propagation of the two liquid volumes, their expansion or contraction is also described, while rotation has been proven negligible. A detailed comparison with the previous studies for the two-phase flows accounting for propagation of the interface on micro- and macroscale has been carried out. A numerical algorithm has been developed allowing for solution of the system of flow equations in multiple dimensions. Sample computations demonstrate that the new model results in sharpening the displacement front and a more piston-like character of displacement. It is also demonstrated that the velocities of the flowing phases may indeed be non-collinear, especially at the zone of intersection of the displacement front and a zone of sharp permeability variation.  相似文献

The first part of the paper presents a partitioned fluid–structure interaction (FSI) coupling for the non-uniform flow hydro-elastic analysis of highly flexible propellers in cavitating and non-cavitating conditions. The chosen fluid model is a potential flow solved with a boundary element method (BEM). The structural sub-problem has been modelled with a finite element method (FEM). In the present method, the fully partitioned framework allows one to use another flow or structural solver. An important feature of the present method is the time periodic way of solving the FSI problem. In a time periodic coupling, the coupling iterations are not performed per time step but on a periodic level, which is necessary for the present BEM–FEM coupling, but can also offer an improved convergence rate compared to a time step coupled method. Thus, it allows to solve the structural problem in the frequency domain, meaning that any transients, which slow down the convergence process, are not computed. As proposed in the method, the structural equations of motion can be solved in modal space, which allows for a model reduction by involving only a limited number of mode shapes. The second part of the paper includes a validation study on full-scale. For the full-scale validation study a purposely designed composite propeller with a diameter of 1 m has been manufactured. Also an underwater measurement set-up including a stereo camera system, remote control of the optics and illumination system has been developed. The propeller design and the underwater measurement set-up are described in the paper. During sea trials blade deflections have been measured in three different positions. A comparison between measured and calculated torque shows that the measured torque is much larger than computed. This is attributed to the differences between effective and nominal wakefields, where the latter one has been used for the calculations. To correct for the differences between measured and computed torque the calculated pressures have been amplified accordingly. In that way the deformations which have been computed with the BEM–FEM coupling for non-uniform flows became very similar to the measured results.  相似文献

This paper presents the numerical solution of non-linear yield stress phenomena by using a new mixed anisotropic auto-adaptive finite element method. The Poiseuille flow of a Bingham fluid with slip yield boundary condition at the wall is considered. Despite its practical interest, for instance for pipeline flows of yield-stress fluids such as concrete and cements, this problem has not been addressed yet to our knowledge. The case of a pipe with a square section has been investigated in detail. The computations cover the full range of the two main dimensionless numbers and exhibit complex flow patterns: all the different flow regimes are completely identified.  相似文献

Colloidal particulate deposition affects the performance of industrial equipment, reverse osmosis membranes and sub-surface contaminant transport. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, i.e. diffusion, diffraction and velocity imaging, are used to study the effect deposited colloidal particulate have on the fluid dynamics of water inside a model porous medium. Specially prepared oil-filled hard-sphere particles allow monitoring of particulate accumulation via NMR spectroscopy. Evidence of preferential spatial deposition is observed after the initial colloidal particulate deposition. Loss of spatial homogeneity is observed through NMR diffraction, while observations of the probability distributions of displacement (propagators) indicate the formation of back-bone type flow. This paper presents unique dynamic NMR data for the non-invasive non-destructive investigation of fluid transport in opaque porous media experiencing colloidal deposition.  相似文献

The Vlasov–Poisson system describes interacting systems of collisionless particles. For solutions with small initial data in three dimensions it is known that the spatial density of particles decays as t −3 at late times. In this paper this statement is refined to show that each derivative of the density which is taken leads to an extra power of decay, so that in N dimensions for N \geqq 3{N \geqq 3} the derivative of the density of order k decays as t N-k . An asymptotic formula for the solution at late times is also obtained.  相似文献

A predator–prey system with Holling type II functional response and stage-structure for predator is presented. The stability and Hopf bifurcation of this model are studied by analyzing the associated characteristic transcendental equation. Further, an explicit formula for determining the stability and the direction of periodic solutions bifurcating from positive equilibrium is derived by the normal form theory and center manifold argument. Some numerical simulations are also given to illustrate our results.  相似文献

The development of a three-hole pressure probe with back-flushing combined with a conductivity probe, used for measuring simultaneously the magnitude and direction of the velocity vector in complex air–water flows, is described in this paper. The air–water flows envisaged in the current work are typically those occurring around the rotors of impulse hydraulic turbines (like the Pelton and Cross-Flow turbines), where the flow direction is not known prior to the data acquisition. The calibration of both the conductivity and three-hole pressure components of the combined probe in a rig built for the purpose, where the probe was placed in a position similar to that adopted for the flow measurements, will be reported. After concluding the calibration procedure, the probe was utilized in the outside region of a Cross-Flow turbine rotor. The experimental results obtained in the present study illustrate the satisfactory performance of the combined probe, and are encouraging toward its use for characterizing the velocity field of other complex air–water flows.  相似文献

The dependence of the fully-developed flow profiles on the inlet flow conditions for gas–solids two-phase flows, i.e. the flow multiplicity phenomenon, in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) risers was proposed and discussed in this article. The flow multiplicity phenomenon for gas–solids two-phase flows was first proved mathematically based on the conservation equations of mass and momentum. Then the CFD model using Eulerian–Eulerian approach with kε turbulence model for each phase was further adopted to analyze the details of this flow multiplicity phenomenon. It is theoretically and numerically revealed that for gas–solids two-phase flows, the flow profiles in the fully-developed region are always dominated by the flow profiles at the inlet. The solids concentration profile is closely coupled with the velocity profile, and the inlet solids concentration and velocity profiles can largely influence the fully-developed concentration and velocity profiles.  相似文献

Immiscible viscous liquid–liquid two-phase flow patterns and pressure drop characteristics in a circular microchannel have been investigated. Water and silicone oil with a dynamic viscosity of 863 mPa s were injected into a fused silica microchannel with an inner diameter of 250 μm. As the microchannel was initially filled with the silicone oil, an oil film was found to always form and remain on the microchannel wall. Different flow patterns were observed and classified over a wide range of water and oil flow rates. A flow pattern map is presented in terms of Re, Ca, and We numbers. Two-phase pressure drop data have also been collected and analyzed to develop a simple correlation for slug, annular and annular-droplet flow patterns in terms of superficial water and oil velocities.  相似文献
