The theory of quasiconformal deformations of a Riemannian manifold (M, g) of dimensionn leads in a natural way to the AhlforsS operator being the symmetric and trace free part of the Levi-Civita connection Δ on 1-forms, and to the Ahlfors Laplacian , whereR is the Ricci action. It is well known that there are no conformal deformations on compact Riemannian manifoldsM with negative Ricci curvature. The question arises, how close to being conformal a deformation on suchM can be, i.e. the question on the minimal constant of quasiconformality. Using spectral properties ofL, we derive several lower bounds for the constant of quasiconformality for the normalized deformations of compact manifolds with the positive definite, negative definite, or vanishing Ricci tensorR. As a result, we also obtain that there are no conformal deformations if the Ricci curvature is positive definite but small enough (Corollary 5.17).  相似文献

We give an estimate of the smallest spectral value of the Laplace operator on a complete noncompact stable minimal hypersurface M in a complete simply connected Riemannian manifold with pinched negative sectional curvature. In the same ambient space, we prove that if a complete minimal hypersurface M has sufficiently small total scalar curvature then M has only one end. We also obtain a vanishing theorem for L 2 harmonic 1-forms on minimal hypersurfaces in a Riemannian manifold with sectional curvature bounded below by a negative constant. Moreover, we provide sufficient conditions for a minimal hypersurface in a Riemannian manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature to be stable.  相似文献

We extend some rigidity results of Aleksandrov and Ros on compact hypersurfaces inR n to more general ambient spaces with the aid of the notion of almost conformal vector fields. These latter, at least locally, always exist and allow us to find interesting integral formulas fitting our purposes.  相似文献

We study a G-manifold M which admits a G-invariant Riemannian metric g of non-positive curvature. We describe all such Riemannian G-manifolds (M,g) of non-positive curvature with a semisimple Lie group G which acts on M regularly and classify cohomogeneity one G-manifolds M of a semisimple Lie group G which admit an invariant metric of non-positive curvature. Some results on non-existence of invariant metric of negative curvature on cohomogeneity one G-manifolds of a semisimple Lie group G are given.  相似文献

We consider biharmonic maps $\phi :(M,g)\rightarrow (N,h)$ from a complete Riemannian manifold into a Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature. Assume that $ p $ satisfies $ 2\le p <\infty $ . If for such a $ p $ , $\int _M|\tau (\phi )|^{ p }\,\mathrm{d}v_g<\infty $ and $\int _M|\,\mathrm{d}\phi |^2\,\mathrm{d}v_g<\infty ,$ where $\tau (\phi )$ is the tension field of $\phi $ , then we show that $\phi $ is harmonic. For a biharmonic submanifold, we obtain that the above assumption $\int _M|\,\mathrm{d}\phi |^2\,\mathrm{d}v_g<\infty $ is not necessary. These results give affirmative partial answers to the global version of generalized Chen’s conjecture.  相似文献

We prove that Riemannian metrics with an absolute Ricci curvature bound and a conjugate radius bound can be smoothed to having a sectional curvature bound. Using this we derive a number of results about structures of manifolds with Ricci curvature bounds. The authors were supported in part by NSF Grant. In this paper, we will introduce the notion of harmonic stability for complete minimal hypersurfaces in a complete Riemannian manifold. The first result we prove, is that a complete harmonic stable minimal surface in a Riemannian manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature is conformally equivalent to either a plane R 2 or a cylinder R × S 1, which generalizes a theorem due to Fischer-Colbrie and Schoen [12]. The second one is that an n ≥ 2-dimensional, complete harmonic stable minimal, hypersurface M in a complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvature has only one end if M is non-parabolic. The third one, which we prove, is that there exist no non-trivial L 2-harmonic one forms on a complete harmonic stable minimal hypersurface in a complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvature. Since the harmonic stability is weaker than stability, we obtain a generalization of a theorem due to Miyaoka [20] and Palmer [21]. In this paper, we prove the following result: LetM be ann-dimensional compact curvature-invariant minimal subinanifoid immersed in a(> 2n–2/5n–2)- pinched Riemannian manifoldN. Denote by the second fundamental form ofM. If ¦¦2<3/9((5n–2)–2(n–1)), thenM is totally geodesic. This result generalizes the Simons pinching theorem.Supported by the JSPS postdoctoral fellowship and NSF of China.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the problem of finding closed hypersurfaces with prescribed Weingarten curvature in a large class of Riemannian manifolds. Under some sufficient conditions, we obtain an existence result by establishing a priori estimates and standard degree theory for the admissible solutions to the prescribed curvature equation. We mainly show that the primary technique developed in Urbas, Wang and the second author’s work in 2004 is flexible enough to be used in more general ambient geometry.  相似文献

Let x:M→ be an isometric immersion of a hypersurface M into an (n+1)-dimensional Riemannian manifold and let ρ i  (i∈{1,...,n}) be the principal curvatures of M. We denote by E and P the distinguished vector field and the curvature vector field of M, respectively, in the sense of [8].?If M is structured by a P-parallel connection [7], then it is Einsteinian. In this case, all the curvature 2-forms are exact and other properties induced by E and P are stated.?The principal curvatures ρ i are isoparametric functions and the set (ρ1,...,ρ n ) defines an isoparametric system [10].?In the last section, we assume that, in addition, M is endowed with an almost symplectic structure. Then, the dual 1-form π=P of P is symplectic harmonic. If M is compact, then its 2nd Betti number b 2≥1. Let M n be a complete oriented noncompact hypersurface in a complete Riemannian manifold N n+1 of nonnegative sectional curvature with ${2 \leq n \leq 5}$ . We prove that if M satisfies a stability condition, then there are no non-trivial L 2 harmonic one-forms on M. This result is a generalization of a well-known fact in the case when M is a stable minimally immersed hypersurface. As a consequence, we show that if the mean curvature of M is constant, then either M must have only one end or M splits into a product of ${\mathbb{R}}$ and a compact manifold with nonnegative sectional curvature. In case ${n \geq 5}$ , we also show that the same result holds if the absolute value of the mean curvature is less than or equal to the ratio of the norm of the second fundamental form to the dimension of a hypersurface.  相似文献

We prove that a homogeneous effective spaceM=G/H, whereG is a connected Lie group andH⊂G is a compact subgroup, admits aG-invariant Riemannian metric of positive Ricci curvature if and only if the spaceM is compact and its fundamental group π1(M) is finite (in this case any normal metric onG/H is suitable). This is equivalent to the following conditions: the groupG is compact and the largest semisimple subgroupLG⊂G is transitive onG/H. Furthermore, ifG is nonsemisimple, then there exists aG-invariant fibration ofM over an effective homogeneous space of a compact semisimple Lie group with the torus as the fiber. Suppose $M$ is a manifold with boundary. Choose a point $o\in \partial M$ . We investigate the prescribed Ricci curvature equation $\mathop {\mathrm{Ric}}\nolimits (G)=T$ in a neighborhood of $o$ under natural boundary conditions. The unknown $G$ here is a Riemannian metric. The letter $T$ on the right-hand side denotes a (0,2)-tensor. Our main theorems address the questions of the existence and the uniqueness of solutions. We explain, among other things, how these theorems may be used to study rotationally symmetric metrics near the boundary of a solid torus $\mathcal{T }$ . The paper concludes with a brief discussion of the Einstein equation on $\mathcal{T }$ .  相似文献

We give a new estimate on the lower bound for the first positive eigenvalue of the Laplacian on a closed manifold with positive Ricci curvature in terms of the lower bound of the Ricci curvature and the largest interior radius of the nodal domains of eigenfunctions of the eigenvalue.

In this paper, we prove the followingTheorem. Let Cn+1 ( n >5 ) be a conformally flat Riemannian anifola of dimension n + 1 . If Mn is a hypersurface immersed isometrically in Cn+1 over which the second fundamental form is covariant constant, then there are three posible cases only:I . locally Mn= Sp×Sq×Sr, p+q+r=n;Ⅱ . locally Mn=Sp×Sq, p + q = n , where Sk is k- dimensional Riemannian space of constant curvature;III. Mn is umbilical and conformally flat. Moreover, if Mn is connected and complete, then the result holds globally.  相似文献
