Highly efficient four-wave mixing (FWM) and six-wave mixing (SWM) processes can coexist in a four-level Y-type atomic system due to atomic coherence. The simultaneously opened dual electromagnetically induced transparency windows in this four-level atomic system allow observation of these two nonlinear optical processes at the same time, which enables detailed studies of the interplay between the FWM and SWM processes. Three-photon and five-photon destructive interferences are also observed.  相似文献

Based on double optical pumping channels,we experimentally study the competition between two coexistent six-wave mixing(SWM) processes falling into two electromagnetically induced transparency windows by scanning the frequency of the probe field in two similar five-level atomic systems of 85Rb.By blocking one optical pumping channel unrelated to the four-wave mixing(FWM) process,one SWM process,together with the FWM process,generated by a conjugated small-angle static grating could be observed in the spectrum.Moreover,the other SWM process obtained by blocking the first SWM channel is also observed together with the FWM process in a lower N-type four-level subsystem.These experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions.  相似文献

We study the co-existing four-wave mixing (FWM) process with two dressing fields and the six-wave mixing (SWM) process with one dressing field in a five-level system with carefully arranged laser beams. We also show two kinds of doubly dressing mechanisms in the FWM process. FWM and SWM signals propagatingalong the same direction compete with each other. With the properly controlled dressing fields, the FWM signals can be suppressed, while the SWM signals have been enhanced.  相似文献

We theoretically deduce the macroscopic symmetry constraints for arbitrary odd-order nonlinear susceptibilities in homogeneous media including atomic vapors for the first time. After theoretically calculating the expressions using a semiclassical method, we demonstrate that the expressions for third- and fifth-order nonlinear susceptibilities for undressed and dressed four- and six-wave mixing (FWM and SWM) in atomic vapors satisfy the macroscopic symmetry constraints. We experimentally demonstrate consistence between the macroscopic symmetry constraints and the semiclassical expressions for atomic vapors by observing polarization control of FWM and SWM processes. The experimental results are in reasonable agreement with our theoretical calculations.  相似文献

We have demonstrated the Autler-Townes (AT) splitting of the four-wave mixing (FWM) process and the six-wave mixing (SWM) process in an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) window in five-level atomic vapor of 87 Rb. We demonstrate the coexisting four-wave mixing (FWM) signal and six-wave mixing (SWM) signal which can be enhanced both by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and optical pumping effect in a common three-level and open four-level inverted-Y type systems of 85Rb. We also analyze the effect of optical pumping in different energy level systems by arranging laser beams and comparing the strength of the increased and reduced absorption caused by optical pumping.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the controlled multi-wave mixing (MWM) via interacting multi-dark states in a five-level system. Four-wave mixing (FWM) with three kinds of dual-dressed schemes (nested, sequential, and parallel schemes), six-wave mixing (SWM) with the quadruply nested dressed, and eight-wave mixing (EWM) with the parallel combination of two nested dressed schemes coexisting synchronously in a multi-dressed electromagnetically induced transparency system were well described. Through investigating their spectra, we found that these multi-dressed-states induced by various dressed schemes show strong interaction and interchange. Investigations of these multi-dressing schemes and interactions are very useful for understanding and controlling the generated high-order nonlinear optical signals.  相似文献

Four-wave mixing (FWM) is a significant nonlinear effect in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) fiber-optic systems. For two-wave transmission, it is easily found that the FWM noise power decreases with frequency spacing and increases with signal power. However, the variation of relative intensity noise (RIN) with frequency spacing and signal power is only 2 dB at most. The intensity fluctuations induced by the energy exchange between the FWM generated new waves and the original ones are trivial and the influence of FWM on RIN can be neglected. It is also found that the increase of RIN with signal power is mainly attributed to stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) rather than FWM.  相似文献

Polarization dependence of the enhancement and suppression of four-wave mixing (FWM) in a multi-Zeeman level atomic system is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. A dressing field applied to the adjacent transition can cause energy level splitting. Therefore, it can control the enhancement and suppression of the FWM processes in the system due to the effect of electromagnetically induced transparency. The results show that the pumping beams with different polarizations select the transitions between different Zeeman levels that, in turn, affect the enhancement and suppression efficiencies of FWM.  相似文献

Coherent four-wave mixing (FWM) of laser pulses in gas-filled hollow fibers is studied. The experimental data and the expressions derived for the amplitude of the FWM signal indicate that the excitation of higher order waveguide modes is an important physical factor having a considerable influence on nonlinear optical processes in hollow fibers.  相似文献

We study the competition between dispersion and absorption of doubly-dressed four-wave mixing (DDFWM) and dressed six-wave mixing. In the case of weak coupling fields limit, we find DDFWM signal is affected by destructive interference between four-wave mixing(FWM) and six-wave mixing as wen as constructive interference between FWM and eight-wave mixing. By analysing the difference between two kinds of doubly dressing mechanisms (parallel cascade and nested cascade) in this opening five-level system, we can further understand the generated high-order nonlinear optical signal dressed by multi-fields.  相似文献

All-optical control of the phase-matching condition in four-wave mixing (FWM) processes is demonstrated using the Brillouin slow-light effect in optical fibers. A counterpropagating stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) pump has been used to control the phase velocity of the FWM pump in a wavelength conversion scheme. Both experimental results and theoretical simulations show an SBS-controlled 20 dB difference on the wavelength conversion efficiency.  相似文献

We report observations of the enhancement and suppression of four-wave mixing (FWM) in an electromagnetically induced transparency window in a Y-type ^85 Rb atomic system. The results show the evolution of the dressed effects (from pure enhancement to partial enhancement/suppression, and finally into pure suppression) in the degenerate-FWM processes. Moreover, we use the perturbation chain method to describe the FWM process. Finally, we observe the polarization dependence of the enhancement and suppression of the FWM signal.  相似文献

Recently, the vectorial nonlinear optical processes driven by spin-orbit coupling (SOC) light have come to the fore, leading to striking optical phenomena and important applications both in classical and quantum optics. However, research on the SOC-mediated light-atom interactions is still in its infancy. Here, the generation and manipulation of SOC mode through a vectorial four-wave mixing (FWM) process in 85Rb vapor is demonstrated. Under the excitation of two SOC pump beams, multiple FWM paths can be simultaneously established due to the rich atomic Zeeman sublevels coupling with different circularly polarized components of SOC fields. A higher-order cylindrical or more general SOC FWM signal is observed in the vectorial FWM process, which obeys angular momentum conservation and Gouy phase matching. In particular, quantum interference between different FWM paths plays a crucial role in manipulating the SOC mode of the generated FWM signal, revealing that the conversion of SOC mode is intrinsically quantum. This work provides a pathway toward deeper insight into the vectorial nonlinear optical processes and may advance technology for shaping spatially structured light, which is essential in applications such as nonlinear polarization imaging and the optical communication realm.  相似文献

We demonstrate a novel type of stable multicomponent vector solitons consisting of two perpendicular four-wave mixing (FWM) dipole components induced by electromagnetically induced gratings. We analyze the formation and steering of the steady dipole solitons and their dynamical (energy transfer) effects. The dipole-mode solitons of two FWM processes have horizontal and vertical orientations, respectively. Omnidirectional Bragg reflections are also investigated.  相似文献

We have investigated coexisting four-wave mixing and six-wave mixing (SWM) in ultra-thin, micrometre and long vapour cells. There exists competition between Dicke-narrowing features and polarization interference in the micrometre cell. The oscillation behaviour of SWM signal intensities and linewidths results from destructive interference. With a larger destructive interference, the SWM signal in ultra-thin cells shows a narrow spectrum, in contrast to the long cell case. Due to the Dicke-narrowing features, a narrow spectrum can be obtained, and such spectra can be used for high precision measurements and metrological standards.  相似文献
