We consider the problem of variable selection for single-index varying-coefficient model, and present a regularized variable selection procedure by combining basis function approximations with SCAD penalty. The proposed procedure simultaneously selects significant covariates with functional coefficients and local significant variables with parametric coefficients. With appropriate selection of the tuning parameters, the consistency of the variable selection procedure and the oracle property of the estimators are established. The proposed method can naturally be applied to deal with pure single-index model and varying-coefficient model. Finite sample performances of the proposed method are illustrated by a simulation study and the real data analysis.  相似文献

We propose a penalized likelihood method that simultaneously fits the multinomial logistic regression model and combines subsets of the response categories. The penalty is nondifferentiable when pairs of columns in the optimization variable are equal. This encourages pairwise equality of these columns in the estimator, which corresponds to response category combination. We use an alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm to compute the estimator and we discuss the algorithm’s convergence. Prediction and model selection are also addressed. Many problems in genomics are related to variable selection where high-dimensional genomic data are treated as covariates. Such genomic covariates often have certain structures and can be represented as vertices of an undirected graph. Biological processes also vary as functions depending upon some biological state, such as time. High-dimensional variable selection where covariates are graph-structured and underlying model is nonparametric presents an important but largely unaddressed statistical challenge. Motivated by the problem of regression-based motif discovery, we consider the problem of variable selection for high-dimensional nonparametric varying-coefficient models and introduce a sparse structured shrinkage (SSS) estimator based on basis function expansions and a novel smoothed penalty function. We present an efficient algorithm for computing the SSS estimator. Results on model selection consistency and estimation bounds are derived. Moreover, finite-sample performances are studied via simulations, and the effects of high-dimensionality and structural information of the covariates are especially highlighted. We apply our method to motif finding problem using a yeast cell-cycle gene expression dataset and word counts in genes' promoter sequences. Our results demonstrate that the proposed method can result in better variable selection and prediction for high-dimensional regression when the underlying model is nonparametric and covariates are structured. Automatic model selection for partially linear models   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We propose and study a unified procedure for variable selection in partially linear models. A new type of double-penalized least squares is formulated, using the smoothing spline to estimate the nonparametric part and applying a shrinkage penalty on parametric components to achieve model parsimony. Theoretically we show that, with proper choices of the smoothing and regularization parameters, the proposed procedure can be as efficient as the oracle estimator [J. Fan, R. Li, Variable selection via nonconcave penalized likelihood and its oracle properties, Journal of American Statistical Association 96 (2001) 1348–1360]. We also study the asymptotic properties of the estimator when the number of parametric effects diverges with the sample size. Frequentist and Bayesian estimates of the covariance and confidence intervals are derived for the estimators. One great advantage of this procedure is its linear mixed model (LMM) representation, which greatly facilitates its implementation by using standard statistical software. Furthermore, the LMM framework enables one to treat the smoothing parameter as a variance component and hence conveniently estimate it together with other regression coefficients. Extensive numerical studies are conducted to demonstrate the effective performance of the proposed procedure.  相似文献

Partially linear model is a class of commonly used semiparametric models, this paper focus on variable selection and parameter estimation for partially linear models via adaptive LASSO method. Firstly, based on profile least squares and adaptive LASSO method, the adaptive LASSO estimator for partially linear models are constructed, and the selections of penalty parameter and bandwidth are discussed. Under some regular conditions, the consistency and asymptotic normality for the estimator are investigated, and it is proved that the adaptive LASSO estimator has the oracle properties. The proposed method can be easily implemented. Finally a Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed variable selection procedure, results show the adaptive LASSO estimator behaves well.  相似文献

The smooth integration of counting and absolute deviation (SICA) penalized variable selection procedure for high-dimensional linear regression models is proposed by Lv and Fan (2009). In this article, we extend their idea to Cox's proportional hazards (PH) model by using a penalized log partial likelihood with the SICA penalty. The number of the regression coefficients is allowed to grow with the sample size. Based on an approximation to the inverse of the Hessian matrix, the proposed method can be easily carried out with the smoothing quasi-Newton (SQN) algorithm. Under appropriate sparsity conditions, we show that the resulting estimator of the regression coefficients possesses the oracle property. We perform an extensive simulation study to compare our approach with other methods and illustrate it on a well known PBC data for predicting survival from risk factors.  相似文献

The accelerated failure time model always offers a valuable complement to the traditional Cox proportional hazards model due to its direct and meaningful interpretation. We propose a variable selection method in the context of the accelerated failure time model for survival data, which can simultaneously complete variable selection and parameter estimation. Meanwhile, the proposed method can deal with the potential outliers in survival times as well as heteroscedastic model errors, which are frequently encountered in practice. Specifically, utilizing the general nonconvex penalty, we propose the adaptive penalized weighted least absolute deviation estimator for the accelerated failure time model. Under some regularity conditions, we show that the proposed method yields consistent estimator and possesses the oracle property. In addition, we propose a new algorithm to compute the estimate in the high dimensional settings, and evaluate the practical utility of the proposed method through extensive simulation studies and two real examples.  相似文献

Finite mixture regression (FMR) models are frequently used in statistical modeling, often with many covariates with low significance. Variable selection techniques can be employed to identify the covariates with little influence on the response. The problem of variable selection in FMR models is studied here. Penalized likelihood-based approaches are sensitive to data contamination, and their efficiency may be significantly reduced when the model is slightly misspecified. We propose a new robust variable selection procedure for FMR models. The proposed method is based on minimum-distance techniques, which seem to have some automatic robustness to model misspecification. We show that the proposed estimator has the variable selection consistency and oracle property. The finite-sample breakdown point of the estimator is established to demonstrate its robustness. We examine small-sample and robustness properties of the estimator using a Monte Carlo study. We also analyze a real data set.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors investigate three aspects of statistical inference for the partially linear regression models where some covariates are measured with errors.Firstly, a bandwidth selection procedure is proposed, which is a combination of the differencebased technique and GCV method.Secondly,a goodness-of-fit test procedure is proposed, which is an extension of the generalized likelihood technique.Thirdly,a variable selection procedure for the parametric part is provided based on the nonconcave penalization and corrected profile least squares.Same as"Variable selection via nonconcave penalized likelihood and its oracle properties"(J.Amer.Statist.Assoc.,96,2001,1348-1360),it is shown that the resulting estimator has an oracle property with a proper choice of regularization parameters and penalty function.Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performances of the proposed procedures.  相似文献

We investigate semiparametric estimation of regression coefficients through generalized estimating equations with single-index models when some covariates are missing at random. Existing popular semiparametric estimators may run into difficulties when some selection probabilities are small or the dimension of the covariates is not low. We propose a new simple parameter estimator using a kernel-assisted estimator for the augmentation by a single-index model without using the inverse of selection probabilities. We show that under certain conditions the proposed estimator is as efficient as the existing methods based on standard kernel smoothing, which are often practically infeasible in the case of multiple covariates. A simulation study and a real data example are presented to illustrate the proposed method. The numerical results show that the proposed estimator avoids some numerical issues caused by estimated small selection probabilities that are needed in other estimators.

The work revisits the autocovariance function estimation, a fundamental problem in statistical inference for time series. We convert the function estimation problem into constrained penalized regression with a generalized penalty that provides us with flexible and accurate estimation, and study the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator. In case of a nonzero mean time series, we apply a penalized regression technique to a differenced time series, which does not require a separate detrending procedure. In penalized regression, selection of tuning parameters is critical and we propose four different data-driven criteria to determine them. A simulation study shows effectiveness of the tuning parameter selection and that the proposed approach is superior to three existing methods. We also briefly discuss the extension of the proposed approach to interval-valued time series. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.  相似文献

Variable selection is fundamental to high dimensional generalized linear models. A number of variable selection approaches have been proposed in the literature. This paper considers the problem of variable selection and estimation in generalized linear models via a bridge penalty in the situation where the number of parameters diverges with the sample size. Under reasonable conditions the consistency of the bridge estimator can be achieved. Furthermore, it can select the nonzero coefficients with a probability converging to 1 and the estimators of nonzero coefficients have the asymptotic normality, namely the oracle property. Our simulations indicate that the bridge penalty is an effective consistent model selection technique and is comparable to the smoothly clipped absolute deviation procedure. A real example analysis is presented.  相似文献

In this article, we consider nonparametric smoothing and variable selection in varying-coefficient models. Varying-coefficient models are commonly used for analyzing the time-dependent effects of covariates on responses measured repeatedly (such as longitudinal data). We present the P-spline estimator in this context and show its estimation consistency for a diverging number of knots (or B-spline basis functions). The combination of P-splines with nonnegative garrote (which is a variable selection method) leads to good estimation and variable selection. Moreover, we consider APSO (additive P-spline selection operator), which combines a P-spline penalty with a regularization penalty, and show its estimation and variable selection consistency. The methods are illustrated with a simulation study and real-data examples. The proofs of the theoretical results as well as one of the real-data examples are provided in the online supplementary materials.  相似文献

In this paper, a self-weighted composite quantile regression estimation procedure is developed to estimate unknown parameter in an infinite variance autoregressive (IVAR) model. The proposed estimator is asymptotically normal and more efficient than a single quantile regression estimator. At the same time, the adaptive least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) for variable selection are also suggested. We show that the adaptive LASSO based on the self-weighted composite quantile regression enjoys the oracle properties. Simulation studies and a real data example are conducted to examine the performance of the proposed approaches.  相似文献

Based on the double penalized estimation method,a new variable selection procedure is proposed for partially linear models with longitudinal data. The proposed procedure can avoid the effects of the nonparametric estimator on the variable selection for the parameters components.Under some regularity conditions, the rate of convergence and asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators are established. In addition,to improve efficiency for regression coefficients, the estimation of the working covariance matrix is involved in the proposed iterative algorithm. Some simulation studies are carried out to demonstrate that the proposed method performs well.  相似文献
