Anisotropic meshes are known to be well-suited for problems which exhibit anisotropic solution features.Defning an appropriate metric tensor and designing an efcient algorithm for anisotropic mesh generation are two important aspects of the anisotropic mesh methodology.In this paper,we are concerned with the natural metric tensor for use in anisotropic mesh generation for anisotropic elliptic problems.We provide an algorithm to generate anisotropic meshes under the given metric tensor.We show that the inverse of the anisotropic difusion matrix of the anisotropic elliptic problem is a natural metric tensor for the anisotropic mesh generation in three aspects:better discrete algebraic systems,more accurate fnite element solution and superconvergence on the mesh nodes.Various numerical examples demonstrating the efectiveness are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider iterative algorithms of Uzawa type for solving linear nonsymmetric saddle point problems. Specifically, we consider systems, written as usual in block form, where the upper left block is an invertible linear operator with positive definite symmetric part. Such saddle point problems arise, for example, in certain finite element and finite difference discretizations of Navier-Stokes equations, Oseen equations, and mixed finite element discretization of second order convection-diffusion problems. We consider two algorithms, each of which utilizes a preconditioner for the operator in the upper left block. Convergence results for the algorithms are established in appropriate norms. The convergence of one of the algorithms is shown assuming only that the preconditioner is spectrally equivalent to the inverse of the symmetric part of the operator. The other algorithm is shown to converge provided that the preconditioner is a sufficiently accurate approximation of the inverse of the upper left block. Applications to the solution of steady-state Navier-Stokes equations are discussed, and, finally, the results of numerical experiments involving the algorithms are presented.

This paper presents a shifted fractional‐order Jacobi orthogonal function (SFJF) based on the definition of the classical Jacobi polynomial. A new fractional integral operational matrix of the SFJF is presented and derived. We propose the spectral Tau method, in conjunction with the operational matrices of the Riemann–Liouville fractional integral for SFJF and derivative for Jacobi polynomial, to solve a class of time‐fractional partial differential equations with variable coefficients. In this algorithm, the approximate solution is expanded by means of both SFJFs for temporal discretization and Jacobi polynomials for spatial discretization. The proposed tau scheme, both in temporal and spatial discretizations, successfully reduced such problem into a system of algebraic equations, which is far easier to be solved. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the high accuracy and superiority of the proposed algorithm over existing ones. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The choice of the preconditioner is a key factor to accelerate the convergence of eigensolvers for large‐size sparse eigenproblems. Although incomplete factorizations with partial fill‐in prove generally effective in sequential computations, the efficient preconditioning of parallel eigensolvers is still an open issue. The present paper describes the use of block factorized sparse approximate inverse (BFSAI) preconditioning for the parallel solution of large‐size symmetric positive definite eigenproblems with both a simultaneous Rayleigh quotient minimization and the Jacobi–Davidson algorithm. BFSAI coupled with a block diagonal incomplete decomposition proves a robust and efficient parallel preconditioner in a number of test cases arising from the finite element discretization of 3D fluid‐dynamical and mechanical engineering applications, outperforming FSAI even by a factor of 8 and exhibiting a satisfactory scalability. In this paper, we derived the shifted Jacobi operational matrix (JOM) of fractional derivatives which is applied together with spectral tau method for numerical solution of general linear multi-term fractional differential equations (FDEs). A new approach implementing shifted Jacobi operational matrix in combination with the shifted Jacobi collocation technique is introduced for the numerical solution of nonlinear multi-term FDEs. The main characteristic behind this approach is that it reduces such problems to those of solving a system of algebraic equations which greatly simplifying the problem. The proposed methods are applied for solving linear and nonlinear multi-term FDEs subject to initial or boundary conditions, and the exact solutions are obtained for some tested problems. Special attention is given to the comparison of the numerical results obtained by the new algorithm with those found by other known methods.  相似文献

The computational time required by interior-point methods is often dominated by the solution of linear systems of equations. An efficient specialized interior-point algorithm for primal block-angular problems has been used to solve these systems by combining Cholesky factorizations for the block constraints and a conjugate gradient based on a power series preconditioner for the linking constraints. In some problems this power series preconditioner resulted to be inefficient on the last interior-point iterations, when the systems became ill-conditioned. In this work this approach is combined with a splitting preconditioner based on LU factorization, which works well for the last interior-point iterations. Computational results are provided for three classes of problems: multicommodity flows (oriented and nonoriented), minimum-distance controlled tabular adjustment for statistical data protection, and the minimum congestion problem. The results show that, in most cases, the hybrid preconditioner improves the performance and robustness of the interior-point solver. In particular, for some block-angular problems the solution time is reduced by a factor of 10.  相似文献

Higher order finite element discretizations, although providing higher accuracy, are considered to be computationally expensive and of limited use for large‐scale problems. In this paper, we have developed an efficient iterative solver for solving large‐scale quadratic finite element problems. The proposed approach shares some common features with geometric multigrid methods but does not need structured grids to create the coarse problem. This leads to a robust method applicable to finite element problems discretized by unstructured meshes such as those from adaptive remeshing strategies. The method is based on specific properties of hierarchical quadratic bases. It can be combined with an algebraic multigrid (AMG) preconditioner or with other algebraic multilevel block factorizations. The algorithm can be accelerated by flexible Krylov subspace methods. We present some numerical results on the convection–diffusion and linear elasticity problems to illustrate the efficiency and the robustness of the presented algorithm. In these experiments, the performance of the proposed method is compared with that of an AMG preconditioner and other iterative solvers. Hausdorff moment problem is considered and a solution, consisting of the use of fractional moments, is proposed. More precisely, in this work a stable algorithm to obtain centered moments from integer moments is found. The algorithm transforms a direct method into an iterative Jacobi method which converges in a finite number of steps, as the iteration Jacobi matrix has null spectral radius. The centered moments are needed to calculate fractional moments from integer moments. As an application few fractional moments are used to solve finite Hausdorff moment problem via maximum entropy technique. Fractional moments represent a remedy to ill-conditioning coming from an high number of integer moments involved in recovering procedure.  相似文献

We present a comparison of different multigrid approaches for the solution of systems arising from high‐order continuous finite element discretizations of elliptic partial differential equations on complex geometries. We consider the pointwise Jacobi, the Chebyshev‐accelerated Jacobi, and the symmetric successive over‐relaxation smoothers, as well as elementwise block Jacobi smoothing. Three approaches for the multigrid hierarchy are compared: (1) high‐order h‐multigrid, which uses high‐order interpolation and restriction between geometrically coarsened meshes; (2) p‐multigrid, in which the polynomial order is reduced while the mesh remains unchanged, and the interpolation and restriction incorporate the different‐order basis functions; and (3) a first‐order approximation multigrid preconditioner constructed using the nodes of the high‐order discretization. This latter approach is often combined with algebraic multigrid for the low‐order operator and is attractive for high‐order discretizations on unstructured meshes, where geometric coarsening is difficult. Based on a simple performance model, we compare the computational cost of the different approaches. Using scalar test problems in two and three dimensions with constant and varying coefficients, we compare the performance of the different multigrid approaches for polynomial orders up to 16. Overall, both h‐multigrid and p‐multigrid work well; the first‐order approximation is less efficient. For constant coefficients, all smoothers work well. For variable coefficients, Chebyshev and symmetric successive over‐relaxation smoothing outperform Jacobi smoothing. While all of the tested methods converge in a mesh‐independent number of iterations, none of them behaves completely independent of the polynomial order. When multigrid is used as a preconditioner in a Krylov method, the iteration number decreases significantly compared with using multigrid as a solver. A preconditioned scheme for solving sparse symmetric eigenproblems is proposed. The solution strategy relies upon the DACG algorithm, which is a Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient algorithm for minimizing the Rayleigh Quotient. A comparison with the well established ARPACK code shows that when a small number of the leftmost eigenpairs is to be computed, DACG is more efficient than ARPACK. Effective convergence acceleration of DACG is shown to be performed by a suitable approximate inverse preconditioner (AINV). The performance of such a preconditioner is shown to be safe, i.e. not highly dependent on a drop tolerance parameter. On sequential machines, AINV preconditioning proves a practicable alternative to the effective incomplete Cholesky factorization, and is more efficient than Block Jacobi. Owing to its parallelizability, the AINV preconditioner is exploited for a parallel implementation of the DACG algorithm. Numerical tests account for the high degree of parallelization attainable on a Cray T3E machine and confirm the satisfactory scalability properties of the algorithm. The Jacobi–Davidson (JD) algorithm is considered one of the most efficient eigensolvers currently available for non‐Hermitian problems. It can be viewed as a coupled inner‐outer iteration, where the inner one expands the search subspace and the outer one reduces the eigenpair residual. One of the difficulties in the JD efficient use stems from the definition of the most appropriate inner tolerance, so as to avoid useless extra work and keep the number of outer iterations under control. To this aim, the use of an efficient preconditioner for the inner iterative solver is of paramount importance. The present paper describes a fresh implementation of the JD algorithm with controlled inner iterations and block factorized sparse approximate inverse preconditioning for non‐Hermitian eigenproblems in a parallel computational environment. The algorithm performance is investigated by comparison with a freely available software package such as SLEPc. The results show that combining the inner tolerance control with an efficient preconditioning technique can allow for a significant improvement of the JD performance, preserving a good scalability. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a simple, economic and healthy technique to capture images from the internal area of the body. Although EIT is cheaper and smaller than other imaging systems and requires no ionizing radiation, the resolution associated with this technique is intrinsically limited and the image reconstruction algorithms proposed up to now are not efficient enough. In addition to low resolution EIT is an ill-posed inverse problem. Block method in EIT is based on electrical properties of materials and used to enhance image resolution and also to improve the reconstruction algorithm. Recently an inverse solution for EIT based on block method has been developed, however, this method uses non-linear algorithm. The present article provides a non-iterative linear inverse solution for the block approach on EIT. Using linear equations in this new approach provides a fast algorithm and the ability to solve complicated block problems. We have assumed that the subject has a 2D rectangular shape and is made up of identical fixed size blocks and all of the particles of each block have the same electrical conductivities. It is shown by computer simulations that this linear reconstruction algorithm employing the block method results in an accurate identification.  相似文献

一类空间分数阶扩散方程经过有限差分离散后所得到的离散线性方程组的系数矩阵是两个对角矩阵与Toeplitz型矩阵的乘积之和.在本文中,对于几乎各向同性的二维或三维空间分数阶扩散方程的离散线性方程组,采用预处理Krylov子空间迭代方法,我们利用其系数矩阵的特殊结构和具体性质构造了一类分块快速正则Hermite分裂预处理子.通过理论分析,我们证明了所对应的预处理矩阵的特征值大部分都聚集于1的附近.数值实验也表明,这类分块快速正则Hermite分裂预处理子可以明显地加快广义极小残量(GMRES)方法和稳定化的双共轭梯度(BiCGSTAB)方法等Krylov子空间迭代方法的收敛速度.  相似文献

We propose a tensor structured preconditioner for the tensor train GMRES algorithm (or TT-GMRES for short) to approximate the solution of the all-at-once formulation of time-dependent fractional partial differential equations discretized in time by linear multistep formulas used in boundary value form and in space by finite volumes.Numerical experiments show that the proposed preconditioner is efficient for very large problems and is competitive, in particular with respect to the AMEn algorithm.  相似文献

This paper focuses on efficient computational approaches to compute approximate solutions of a linear inverse problem that is contaminated with mixed Poisson–Gaussian noise, and when there are additional outliers in the measured data. The Poisson–Gaussian noise leads to a weighted minimization problem, with solution-dependent weights. To address outliers, the standard least squares fit-to-data metric is replaced by the Talwar robust regression function. Convexity, regularization parameter selection schemes, and incorporation of non-negative constraints are investigated. A projected Newton algorithm is used to solve the resulting constrained optimization problem, and a preconditioner is proposed to accelerate conjugate gradient Hessian solves. Numerical experiments on problems from image deblurring illustrate the effectiveness of the methods.  相似文献

The concept of supernodes, originally developed to accelerate direct solution methods for linear systems, is generalized to block factorized sparse approximate inverse (Block FSAI) preconditioning of non-symmetric linear systems. It is shown that aggregating the unknowns in clusters that are processed together is particularly useful both to reduce the cost for the preconditioner setup and accelerate the convergence of the iterative solver. A set of numerical experiments performed on matrices arising from the meshfree discretization of 2D and 3D potential problems, where a very large number of nodal contacts is usually found, shows that the supernodal Block FSAI preconditioner outperforms the native algorithm and exhibits a much more stable behavior with respect to the variation of the user-specified parameters.  相似文献

We study sweeping preconditioners for symmetric and positive definite block tridiagonal systems of linear equations. The algorithm provides an approximate inverse that can be used directly or in a preconditioned iterative scheme. These algorithms are based on replacing the Schur complements appearing in a block Gaussian elimination direct solve by hierarchical matrix approximations with reduced off‐diagonal ranks. This involves developing low rank hierarchical approximations to inverses. We first provide a convergence analysis for the algorithm for reduced rank hierarchical inverse approximation. We propose a sparse approximate inverse preconditioner based on the Sherman-Morrison formula for Tikhonov regularized least square problems. Theoretical analysis shows that, the factorization method can take the advantage of the symmetric property of the coefficient matrix and be implemented cheaply. Combined with dropping rules, the incomplete factorization leads to a preconditioner for Krylov iterative methods to solve regularized least squares problems. Numerical experiments show that our preconditioner is competitive compared to existing methods, especially for ill-conditioned and rank deficient least squares problems.  相似文献

This paper aims to construct a general formulation for the Jacobi operational matrix of fractional integral operator. Fractional calculus has been used to model physical and engineering processes that are found to be best described by fractional differential equations. Therefore, a reliable and efficient technique for the solution of them is too important. For the concept of fractional derivative we will adopt Caputo’s definition by using Riemann–Liouville fractional integral operator. Our main aim is to generalize the Jacobi integral operational matrix to the fractional calculus. These matrices together with the Tau method are then utilized to reduce the solution of this problem to the solution of a system of algebraic equations. The method is applied to solve linear and nonlinear fractional differential equations. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the presented technique.  相似文献
