For the unilateral shift operator U on the Hardy space H2(T), we describe conditions on operators T, acting on H2(T), that are necessary and sufficient for the pair (U, T) to be jointly hyponormal. One necessary condition is that T be a Toeplitz operator. Consequently, we study certain nonanalytic symbols that give rise to Toeplitz operators hyponormal with the shift, and thereby obtain examples of noncommuting, jointly hyponormal pairs.Supported in part by a research grant from NSERC  相似文献

Invertible composition operators on the Hardy spaceH p have automorphic symbols. For 1<p< andp2 it is shown that some elliptic composition operators are scalar while others are generalized scalar but not spectral, that parabolic composition operators are generalized scalar but not spectral and that hyperbolic composition operators do not have the single-valued extension property.  相似文献

We study pure subnormal operators whose self-commutators have zero as an eigenvalue. We show that various questions in this are closely related to questions involving approximation by functions satisfying and to the study ofgeneralized quadrature domains.First some general results are given that apply to all subnormal operators within this class; then we consider characterizing the analytic Toeplitz operators, the Hardy operators and cyclic subnormal operators whose self-commutators have zero as an eigenvalue.  相似文献

We show that there exist non-compact composition operators in the connected component of the compact ones on the classical Hardy space H2. This answers a question posed by Shapiro and Sundberg in 1990. We also establish an improved version of a theorem of MacCluer, giving a lower bound for the essential norm of a difference of composition operators in terms of the angular derivatives of their symbols. As a main tool we use Aleksandrov-Clark measures.  相似文献

Abstract

This is a report on a number of recent results on composition operators which map, for 0 < p ? q ∞, the Hardy space Hp (on the unit disk in the complex plane) into H q. Attention is focused on questions of boundedness (existence), compactness, order boundedness and, in connection with the latter, on relating the absolutely summing and nuclearity character as well as special factorization properties of the operator to function theoretic properties of the defining symbol. Moreover, tools are provided to show that certain classes of operators can well be distinguished already on the level of composition operators.  相似文献

In this paper we look at operators on the Hardy spaceH 2(D) with range containing all of the non-cyclic vectors of the backward shift. We show several classes of such operators must be surjective, including Toeplitz, Hankel and composition operators.  相似文献

We study the commutator of the multiplication and harmonic Bergman projection, Hankel and Toeplitz operators on the harmonic Bergman spaces. The same type operators have been well studied on the analytic Bergman spaces. The main difficulty of this study is that the bounded harmonic function space is not an algebra! In this paper, we characterize theL p boundedness and compactness of these operators with harmonic symbols. Operators on function spaces acting by composition to the right with a fixed selfmap φ of some set are called composition operators of symbol φ. A weighted composition operator is an operator equal to a composition operator followed by a multiplication operator. We summarize the basic properties of bounded and compact weighted composition operators on the Hilbert Hardy space on the open unit disk and use them to study composition operators on Hardy–Smirnov spaces. Starting with a general formula, precise but difficult to use, for the adjoint of a composition operator on a functional Hilbert space, we compute an explicit formula on the classical Hardy Hilbert space for the adjoint of a composition operator with rational symbol. To provide a foundation for this formula, we study an extension to the definitions of composition, weighted composition, and Toeplitz operators to include symbols that are multiple-valued functions. These definitions can be made on any Banach space of analytic functions on a plane domain, but in this work, our attention is focused on the basic properties needed for the application to operators on the standard Hardy and Bergman Hilbert spaces on the unit disk.  相似文献

It is shown that a compact composition operator on a weighted Bergman space over a smoothly bounded strongly convex domain in n can have no angular derivative. Also, sufficient conditions for the boundedness and the compactness of composition operators defined on Hardy and weighted Bergman spaces are obtained, for situations in which each of the target spaces is enlarged in a natural way.  相似文献

We analyze the influence of the radial component of a symbol to spectral, compactness, and Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators, acting on the Bergman space. We show that there existcompact Toeplitz operators whose (radial) symbols areunbounded near the unit circle . Studying this question we give several sufficient, and necessary conditions, as well as the corresponding examples. The essential spectra of Toeplitz operators with pure radial symbols have sufficiently rich structure, and even can be massive.TheC *-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators with radial symbols are commutative, but the semicommutators[T a, Tb)=Ta·Tb–Ta·b are not compact in general. This paper studies the n-contractive and n-hypercontractive Hilbert space operators (n = 1, 2, . . .), classes weaker than, but related to, the class of subnormal operators. The k-hyponormal operators are the more thoroughly explored examples of classes weaker than subnormal; we show that k-hyponormality implies 2k-contractivity. Turning to weighted shifts, it is shown that if a weighted shift is extremal in the sense that the general nonnegativity test for n-contractivity is satisfied with equality to zero, then the shift is necessarily the unweighted unilateral shift. Also considered are the n-contractivity of back step extensions and perturbations of subnormal weighted shifts and some connections with the Berger measure of a subnormal shift. In 1962 Brown and Halmos gave simple conditions for the product of two Toeplitz operators on Hardy space to be equal to a Toeplitz operator. Recently, Ahern and Cucković showed that a similar result holds for Toeplitz operators with bounded harmonic symbols on Bergman space. For general symbols, the situation is much more complicated. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the product to be a Toeplitz operator (Theorem 6.1), an explicit formula for the symbol of the product in certain cases (Theorem 6.4), and then show that almost anything can happen (Theorem 6.7).  相似文献

We study the short-time Fourier transformation, modulation spaces, Gabor representations and time-frequency localization operators, for functions and tempered distributions that have as range space a Banach or a Hilbert space. In the Banach space case the theory of modulation spaces contains some modifications of the scalar-valued theory, depending on the Banach space. In the Hilbert space case the modulation spaces have properties similar to the scalar-valued case and the Gabor frame theory essentially works. For localization operators in this context symbols are operator-valued. We generalize two results from the scalar-valued theory on continuity on certain modulation spaces when the symbol belongs to an Lp,q space and M, respectively. The first result is true for any Banach space as range space, and the second result is true for any Hilbert space as range space.  相似文献

The gap between hyponormal and subnormal Hilbert space operators can be studied using the intermediate classes of weakly n-hyponormal and (strongly) n-hyponormal operators. The main examples for these various classes, particularly to distinguish them, have been the weighted shifts. In this paper we first obtain a characterization for a weakly n-hyponormal weighted shift Wα with weight sequence α, from which we extend some known results for quadratically hyponormal (i.e., weakly 2-hyponormal) weighted shifts to weakly n-hyponormal weighted shifts. In addition, we discuss some new examples for weakly n-hyponormal weighted shifts; one illustrates the differences among the classes of 2-hyponormal, quadratically hyponormal, and positively quadratically hyponormal operators.  相似文献
