The standard formulation of the AdS/CFT correspondence is incomplete since it requires adding to a supergravity action some a priori unknown boundary terms. We suggest a modification of the correspondence principle based on the Hamiltonian formulation of the supergravity action, which does not require any boundary terms. Then all the boundary terms of the standard formulation naturally appear by passing from the Hamiltonian version to the Lagrangian one. As examples the graviton part of the supergravity action on the product of AdSd+1 with a compact Einstein manifold ϵ and fermions on AdSd+1, are considered. We also discuss conformal transformations of gravity fields on the boundary of AdS and show that they are induced by the isometrics of AdS.  相似文献

We discuss the relationship between the bulk-boundary correspondence in Rehren’s algebraic holography (and in other ‘fixed-background’, QFT-based, approaches to holography) and in mainstream string-theoretic ‘Maldacena AdS/CFT’. Especially, we contrast the understanding of black-hole entropy from the point of view of QFT in curved spacetime—in the framework of ’t Hooft’s ‘brick wall’ model—with the understanding based on Maldacena AdS/CFT. We show that the brick-wall modification of a Klein–Gordon field in the Hartle–Hawking–Israel state on $1+2$ dimensional Schwarzschild AdS has a well-defined boundary limit with the same temperature and entropy as the brick-wall-modified bulk theory. One of our main purposes is to point out a close connection, for general AdS/CFT situations, between the puzzle raised by Arnsdorf and Smolin regarding the relationship between Rehren’s algebraic holography and mainstream AdS/CFT and the puzzle embodied in the ‘complementarity principle’ proposed by Mukohyama and Israel in their work on the brick-wall approach to black hole entropy. Working on the assumption that similar results will hold for bulk QFT other than the Klein–Gordon field and for Schwarzschild AdS in other dimensions, and recalling the first author’s proposed resolution to the Mukohyama–Israel puzzle based on his ‘matter–gravity entanglement hypothesis’, we argue that, in Maldacena AdS/CFT, the algebra of the boundary CFT is isomorphic only to a proper subalgebra of the bulk algebra, albeit (at non-zero temperature) the (GNS) Hilbert spaces of bulk and boundary theories are still the ‘same’—the total bulk state being pure, while the boundary state is mixed (thermal). We also argue from the finiteness of its boundary (and hence, on our assumptions, also bulk) entropy at finite temperature, that the Rehren dual of the Maldacena boundary CFT cannot itself be a QFT and must, instead, presumably be something like a string theory.  相似文献

A quantum field theory on anti-de Sitter space can be constructed from a conformal field theory on its boundary Minkowski space by an inversion of the holographic mapping. The resulting theory is defined by its Green functions and is conformally covariant. The structure of operator product expansions is carried over to AdS space. We show that this method yields a higher spin field theory HS(4) from the minimal conformal O(N) sigma model in three dimensions.  相似文献

The AdS/CFT correspondence between conformal field theory and string states in an extended space-time has provided new insights into not only hadron spectra, but also their light-front wave functions. We show that there is an exact correspondence between the fifth-dimensional coordinate of anti-de Sitter space z and a specific impact variable ζ which measures the separation of the constituents within the hadron in ordinary space-time. This connection allows one to predict the form of the light-front wave functions of mesons and baryons, the fundamental entities which encode hadron properties and scattering amplitudes. A new relativistic Schr?dinger light-front equation is found which reproduces the results obtained using the fifth-dimensional theory. Since they are complete and orthonormal, the AdS/CFT model wave functions can be used as an initial ansatz for a variational treatment or as a basis for the diagonalization of the light-front QCD Hamiltonian. A number of applications of light-front wave functions are also discussed.  相似文献

We study the amplitude for exchange of massless gauge bosons between pairs of massive scalar fields in anti-de Sitter space. In the AdS/CFT correspondence this amplitude describes the contribution of conserved flavor symmetry currents to 4-point functions of scalar operators in the boundary conformal theory. A concise, covariant, Y2K compatible derivation of the gauge boson propagator in AdSd + 1 is given. Techniques are developed to calculate the two bulk integrals over AdS space leading to explicit expressions or convenient, simple integral representations for the amplitude. The amplitude contains leading power and sub-leading logarithmic singularities in the gauge boson channel and leading logarithms in the crossed channel. The new methods of this paper are expected to have other applications in the study of the Maldacena conjecture.  相似文献

We derive the perturbative five loop anomalous dimension of the Konishi operator in N=4N=4 SYM theory from the integrable string sigma model by evaluating finite size effects using Lüscher formulas adapted to multimagnon states at weak coupling. In addition, we derive the five loop wrapping contribution for the L=2L=2 single impurity state in the β deformed theory, which may be within reach of a direct perturbative computation. The Konishi expression exhibits two new features — a modification of Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz quantization and sensitiveness to an infinite set of coefficients of the BES/BHL dressing phase. The result satisfies nontrivial self-consistency conditions — simple transcendentality structure and cancellation of μ-term poles. It may be a testing ground for the proposed AdS/CFT TBA systems.  相似文献

We show that p-forms on AdS2p+1 describe both singletons and massless particles. On the 2p-dimensional boundary the singleton p-form Lagrangian reduces to the conformally invariant functional F2. All the representations, singletons as well as massless, are zero center modules and involve a vacuum mode. Two- and three-form singleton fields are required by supersymmetry in AdS5 and AdS7 supergravity, respectively.  相似文献

We explore the behavior of the holographic superconductors at zero temperature for a charged scalar field coupled to a Maxwell field in higher-dimensional AdS soliton spacetime via analytical way. In the probe limit, we obtain the critical chemical potentials increase linearly as a total dimension d grows up. We find that the critical exponent for condensation operator is obtained as 1/2 independently of d, and the charge density is linearly related to the chemical potential near the critical point. Furthermore, we consider a slightly generalized setup the Einstein–Power–Maxwell field theory, and find that the critical exponent for condensation operator is given as 1/(4?2n) in terms of a power parameter n of the Power–Maxwell field, and the charge density is proportional to the chemical potential to the power of 1/(2?n).  相似文献

We review the relation between AdS spacetime in 1 $+$ 2 dimensions and the BTZ black hole (BTZbh). Later we show that a ground state in AdS spacetime becomes a thermal state in the BTZbh. We show that this is true in the bulk and in the boundary of AdS spacetime. The existence of this thermal state is tantamount to say that the Unruh effect exists in AdS spacetime and becomes the Hawking effect for an eternal BTZbh. In order to make this we use the correspondence introduced in algebraic holography between algebras of quasi-local observables associated to wedges and double cones regions in the bulk of AdS spacetime and its conformal boundary respectively. Also we give the real scalar quantum field as a concrete heuristic realization of this formalism.  相似文献

We present a complete derivation of absorption cross section and Hawking radiation of minimal and fixed scalars from the Strominger-Vafa model of five-dimensional black hole, starting right from the moduli space of the Dl-D5 brane system. We determine the precise coupling of this moduli space to bulk modes by using the AdS/CFT correspondence. Our methods resolve a long-standing problem regarding emission of fixed scalars. We calculate three-point correlators of operators coupling to the minimal scalars from supergravity and from SCFT, and show that both vanish. We make some observations about how the AdS/SYM correspondence implies a close relation between large-N equations of motion of d-dimensional gauge theory and supergravity equations on AdSd+l-type backgrounds. We compare with the explicit non-local transform relating one and two dimensions in the context of c = 1 matrix model.  相似文献

In this paper, we pursue the discussion of the connections between rational conformal field theories (CFT) and graphs. We generalise our recent work on the relations of operator product algebra (OPA) structure constants of sl(2) theories with the Pasquier algebra attached to the graph. We show that in a variety of CFT's built on sl(n) (typically conformal embeddings and orbifolds), similar considerations enable one to write a linear system satisfied by the matrix elements of the Pasquier algebra in terms of conformal data (quantum dimensions and fusion coefficients). In some cases this provides sufficient information for the determination of all the eigenvectors of an adjacency matrix, and hence of a graph.  相似文献

The AdS/CFT correspondence may give a new way of understanding field theories in extreme conditions, as in the quark–gluon plasma phase of quark matter. The correspondence normally involves asymptotically AdS black holes with dual field theories which are defined on locally flat boundary spacetimes; the implicit assumption is that the distortions of spacetime which occur under extreme conditions do not affect the field theory in any unexpected way. However, AdS black holes are [to varying degrees] fragile, in the sense that they become unstable to stringy effects when their event horizons are sufficiently distorted. This implies that field theories on curved backgrounds may likewise be unstable in a suitable sense. We investigate this phenomenon, focussing on the “fragility” of AdS5 black holes with flat event horizons. We find that, when they are distorted, these black holes are always unstable in string theory. This may have consequences for the detailed structure of the quark matter phase diagram at extreme values of the spacetime curvature.  相似文献

Based on an analytic scheme and neglecting the back reaction effect several crucial properties of holographic s-wave superconductors have been investigated in the presence of an external magnetic field in the background of a D  -dimensional Schwarzschild AdS space–time. Inspired by low energy limit of heterotic string theory, in the present Letter we replace the conventional Maxwell action by a Power Maxwell action. Immersing the holographic superconductors in an external static magnetic field the spatially dependent condensate solutions have been obtained analytically. Interestingly enough it is observed that condensation can form only below a certain critical field strength (BcBc). Finally, and most importantly it is observed that the value of this critical field strength increases as the mass of the scalar particles gets higher, which indicates the onset of a harder condensation.  相似文献

The nonlinear realization of conformal so(2,d) symmetry for relativistic systems and the dynamical conformal so(2,1) symmetry of nonrelativistic systems are investigated in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence. We show that the massless particle in d-dimensional Minkowski space can be treated as the system confined to the border of the AdSd+1 of infinite radius, while various nonrelativistic systems may be canonically related to a relativistic (massless, massive, or tachyon) particle on the AdS2 × Sd−1. The list of nonrelativistic systems “unified” by such a correspondence comprises the conformal mechanics model, the planar charge-vortex and three-dimensional charge-monopole systems, the particle in a planar gravitational field of a point massive source, and the conformal model associated with the charged particle propagating near the horizon of the extreme Reissner-Nordström black hole.  相似文献

We study quantities which are important for the realization of the holographic principle in the AdS/CFT correspondence: boundaries, geodesics and the propagators of scalar fields. They should play a role in the holographic setup in the BMN limit as well. We review the backgrounds and their relations that are relevant in the AdS/CFT correspondence and in its BMN limit. We describe the realization of the holographic principle in the AdS/CFT correspondence and summarize proposals of how to translate it in the BMN limit. We analyze the boundaries, geodesics and propagators of scalar fields in detail and observe how they behave in the limiting process from AdS5×S5 to the 10‐dimensional plane wave, which is the spacetime in the BMN limit.  相似文献
