Multiphonon resonant Raman scattering in N‐doped ZnO films was studied, and an enhancement of the resonant Raman scattering process as well as longitudinal optical (LO) phonon overtones up to the sixth order were observed at room temperature. The resonant Raman scattering intensity of the 1LO phonon in N‐doped ZnO appears three times as strong as that of undoped ZnO, which mainly arises from the defect‐induced Raman scattering caused by N‐doping. The nature of the 1LO phonon at 578 cm−1 is interpreted as a quasimode with mixed A1 and E1 symmetry because of the defects formed in the ZnO lattice. In addition, the previously neglected impurity‐induced two‐LO‐phonon scattering process was clearly observed in N‐doped ZnO. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We have been able to observe the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) from 4‐mercaptopyridine (4‐Mpy) molecules adsorbed on ZnO nanocrystals, which display 103 enhancement factors (EFs). An excitation wavelength‐dependent behavior is clearly observed. Another molecule BVPP is also observed to have surface‐enhanced Raman signals. The chemical enhancement is most likely responsible for the observed enhancement, since plasmon resonances are ruled out. The research is important not only for a better understanding of the SERS mechanism, but also for extension of the application of Raman spectroscopy to a variety of adsorption problems on a semiconductor surface. The cascade model of inelastic resonant Raman scattering considers real electronic states in the conduction band (CB) as intermediaries to explain multiple longitudinal optical (LO) Stokes‐shifted lines in the emission spectra. In this study, we report modification in the cascade model under conditions where the scattered photons after multiple transitions have energy lower than the bandgap (Eg) and give rise to higher order n‐LO lines. The higher order n‐LO lines involve electron transition between the trap levels, which are created by impurities or defects in the forbidden energy gap, and are analogous to the real electronic states in CB, depending on the density of defects or impurities in the lattice. The presence of traps in the forbidden gap (1) acts as virtual intermediate states giving rise to higher order n‐LO modes and (2) tends to decrease the radiative recombination probability leading to quenching of the luminescence emission and line width (full‐width at half‐maximum) broadening. Ultraviolet Raman scattering in Mn‐doped ZnO (Zn1−xMnxO) thin films were investigated and the experimental observations analyzed in the domain of the modified cascade model. Silver nanowires synthesized by a solvothermal method were used as templates for fabricating silver‐nanoparticle‐decorated silver (AgNP/Ag) nanowires. The number density and particle size of Ag nanoparticles can be controlled by varying the concentration of Ag precursor. Single AgNP/Ag nanowire exhibited strong surface‐enhanced Raman scattering effect. Detection of melamine molecules at concentrations as low as 1.0 × 10−8 M was used as an example to show the possible applications of such AgNP/Ag nanowires. Their application in rapid detection of melamine in milk solution was further demonstrated. It was shown that melamine in milk solution at a low concentration of 5.0 × 10−8 M can be easily detected with little sample pretreatment. The results demonstrate the potential of single AgNP/Ag nanowire as a surface‐enhanced Raman scattering substrate for convenient and sensitive detection of trace amounts of melamine in a complex mixture. The progress on anti‐Stokes photoluminescence and Stokes and anti‐Stokes Raman scattering in GaN single crystals and GaN/AlN heterostructures is reviewed. Anti‐Stokes photoluminescence investigated in the past was primarily attributed to two‐photon absorption, three‐photon absorption, and phonon‐assisted absorption. On the other hand, anti‐Stokes Raman scattering was used to determine electron‐phonon scattering time and decay time constant for longitudinal‐optical phonons. In a typical high electron mobility transistor based on GaN/AlN heterostructures, strong resonances were reached for first‐order and second‐order Raman scattering processes. Therefore, both Stokes and anti‐Stokes Raman intensities were dramatically enhanced. The feasibility of laser cooling of a nitride structure has been demonstrated. Anti‐Stokes photoluminescence and Raman scattering have potential applications in upconversion lasers and laser cooling of nitride ultrafast electronic and optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Carbendazim (MBC) is a fungicide widely used in agriculture, and there are serious concerns regarding the health risks that could be caused by this fungicide. Here, we explore its ultrasensitive detection by surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). First, to obtain maximum SERS signal, the adsorption of the target molecule onto metallic surface is essential. Therefore, we study the adsorption of the MBC onto the nanoparticle surface by SERS under different experimental conditions, such as different synthesis methods of nanoparticle, variable excitation wavelength, and fungicide concentration with the aim to detect MBC at low concentrations. Experiments are carried out with three kinds of colloidal nanoparticles: Ag and Au reduced by citrate and Ag reduced by hydroxylamine. However, mainly Ag colloids are highly efficient in the SERS detection of MBC. In addition, theoretical calculations of MBC Raman spectrum and that of the surface complex are used to help with the understanding the mechanisms responsible for the interaction between MBC and Ag. Ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy showed displacement to the red of the plasmon resonance of Ag colloid in the presence of MBC. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, we present a detailed Raman scattering study to clarify the origin of the mode at 379 cm−1 which is observed in Raman spectra of the ZnO films grown on c‐sapphire substrates and generally attributed to the A1‐transverse optical (A1‐TO) mode of ZnO. The studied ZnO films were deposited by metal‐organic chemical vapor deposition on c‐sapphire and (0001) ZnO substrates. In the z(−,−)z̄ backscattering configuration, the A1‐TO mode is forbidden, while the 379 cm−1 peak is still observed in the as‐deposited film grown on sapphire substrate. However, this mode is not observed in Raman spectra of the as deposited film grown on ZnO substrate. We suggest that the peak at 379 cm−1 is the E1g mode of the sapphire substrate which is allowed in z(−,−)z̄ backscattering configuration. The effects of annealing, the substrate and the collection cross‐section on Raman active modes were analyzed. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are grafted with gold (Au) nanoparticles of different sizes (1–12 and 1–20 nm) to form Au–MWCNT hybrids. The Au nanoparticles pile up at defect sites on the edges of MWCNTs in the form of chains. The micro‐Raman scattering studies of these hybrids were carried using visible to infrared wavelengths (514.5 and 1064 nm). Enhanced Raman scattering and fluorescence is observed at an excitation wavelength of 514.5 nm. It is found that the graphitic (G) mode intensity enhances by 10 times and down shifts by approximately 3 cm−1 for Au–MWCNT hybrids in comparison with pristine carbon nanotubes. This enhancement in G mode due to surface‐enhanced Raman scattering effect is related to the interaction of MWCNTs with Au nanoparticles. The enhancement in Raman scattering and fluorescence for large size nanoparticles for Au–MWCNTs hybrids is corroborated with localized surface plasmon polaritons. The peak position of localized surface plasmons of Au nanoparticles shifts with the change in environment. Further, no enhancement in G mode was observed at an excitation wavelength of 1064 nm. However, the defect mode (D) mode intensity enhances, and peak position is shifted by approximately 40 cm−1 to lower side at the same wavelength. The enhanced intensity of D mode at 1064 nm excitation wavelength is related to the double resonance phenomenon and shift in the particular mode occurs due to more electron phonon interactions near Fermi level. We show that the increase of surface‐enhanced hyper‐Raman scattering (SEHRS) intensity of organic dye molecules adsorbed on single silver (Ag) colloid aggregate in the presence of halide ions is a direct evidence of the chemical effect in the enhancement mechanism. Time‐dependent SEHRS measurements before and after adding halide ions enabled us to distinctly observe the chemical effect. The presence of the halide ions results to a more stable chemical interaction between metal and dye molecule, making it more resistant against photodegradation effects. This study can contribute in elucidating the chemical effect mechanism and aid in the development of SEHRS as a useful spectroscopic tool. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We report on the plasmon‐enhanced Raman scattering of coaxial hybrid nanowires (NWs) made with light emitting poly(3‐methylthiophene) (P3MT) and gold (Au) core or coating. Absorption spectra of coaxial hybrid NWs showed the absorption peaks because of localized surface plasmon (SP) excitation at ~ 567 and ~ 610 nm, in addition to the π–π* transition peaks of P3MT. Raman spectra of a single strand of coaxial hybrid NW and plain P3MT NW was obtained by using three different wavelengths of laser excitation of 514, 633, and 785 nm. We found that Raman intensities of hybrid coaxial NWs were enhanced by 4 to 15 times over those of plain P3MT NWs with the Raman excitation wavelengths close to the observed SP energies of coaxial NWs. We attributed the observed enhancement of the Raman signal to the resonance of the incident laser with the matching SP energies, rather than the possible doping level change, in hybrid coaxial NWs. The absolute Raman scattering cross section (σRS) for the 1584‐cm−1 band of benzenethiol at 897 nm (1.383 eV) has been measured to be 8.9 ± 1.8 × 10−30 cm2 using a 785‐nm pump laser. A temperature‐controlled, small‐cavity blackbody source was used to calibrate the signal output of the Raman spectrometer. We also measured the absolute surface‐enhanced Raman scattering cross section (σSERS) of benzenethiol adsorbed onto a silver‐coated, femtosecond laser‐nanostructured substrate. Using the measured values of 8.9 ± 1.8 × 10−30 and 6.6 ± 1.3 × 10−24 cm2 for σRS and σSERS respectively, we calculate an average cross‐section enhancement factor (EF) of 0.8 ± 0.3 × 106. A metallic bowtie nanoring array is designed to gain high sensitive and reproducible substrate for surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. The localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), the electric field enhancement factors (EFs) and the electric field distribution of the bowtie and bowtie nanoring array are numerically investigated by means of the finite‐difference time domain (FDTD) method. After the optimization of the particle size and the array period, the maximum electromagnetic field EF approaches 153, and the corresponding SERS electromagnetic enhancement factor (EMEF) reaches 5.4 × 108. This highly sensitive and reproducible substrate can be a good candidate for SERS applications. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Electron Raman scattering (ERS) in wurtzite InxGaN1−x/GaN coupled quantum wells (CQWs) is investigated by effective-mass approximation and second-perturbation approach, including a strong built-in electric field (BEF) effect due to the piezoelectricity and spontaneous polarization. The dependence of differential cross-section (DCS) on structural parameters of CQWs is studied. Our results show that the strong BEF gives rise to a remarkable reduction of the DCS, which is around three orders smaller than that of the CQWs without BEF. With the presence of the BEF, the emitted photon energy decreases about 10 times as a consequence of quantum-confined Stark effect.  相似文献

The NC stretching frequency in the potential‐dependent surface‐enhanced Raman scattering spectrum of 1,4‐phenylenediisocyanide (1,4‐PDI) is very sensitive to the electrode potential, and much the same peak shift is observed when an Au nanoparticle with mean diameter from 16 to 90 nm attached to 1,4‐PDI‐adsorbed gold nanogap system is exposed solely to organic vapors. This leads us to conclude that the surface potential of Au nanoparticles should change by as much as +0.57 and −0.34 V, respectively, in the presence of CCl4 and NH3 because of their respective electron‐withdrawing and electron‐donating properties, regardless of the size of Au nanoparticles in the gold nanogap system. Three‐dimensional (3D) nanoporous gallium nitride (PGaN) scaffolds are fabricated by Pt‐assisted electroless hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching of crystalline GaN followed by in situ electroless deposition of Ag nanostructures onto the interior surfaces of the nanopores, yielding a large surface area substrate for surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The resulting 3D SERS‐active substrates have been optimized by varying reaction parameters and starting material concentration, exhibiting enhanced Raman signals 10–100× more intense than either (1) sputtered Ag‐coated porous GaN or (2) Ag‐coated planar GaN. The increase in SERS signal is attributed to a combination of the large surface area and the inherent transparency of PGaN in the visible spectral region. Overall, Ag‐decorated PGaN is a promising platform for high sensitivity SERS detection and chemical analysis, particularly for reaction and metabolic products that can be trapped inside the highly anisotropic nanoscale pores of PGaN. The potential of this sampling mode is illustrated by the ability to acquire Raman spectra of adenine down to 5 fmol. Additionally, correlated SERS and laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry spectra can be acquired from same sample spot without further preparation, opening new possibilities for the investigation of surface‐bound molecules with substantially enhanced information content. Silver thiolate is a layered compound with a Raman spectrum that is known to change with time, becoming the same as the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum of the parent thiol molecule adsorbed on Ag nanoparticles. On this basis, the Raman scattering characteristics of silver 4‐aminobenzenethiolate (Ag‐4ABT) compounds were investigated to determine whether certain peaks that are identifiable in the SERS spectrum of 4‐aminobenzenethiol (4‐ABT) but absent in its normal Raman spectrum were also apparent in the Ag salt spectrum. For comparative purposes, the Raman scattering characteristics of silver 4‐dimethylaminobenzenethiolate (Ag‐4MABT) were also examined. Raman spectra acquired while spinning the sample were typified by only a1‐type vibrational bands of Ag‐4ABT and Ag‐4MABT, whereas in the static condition, several non‐a1‐type bands were identified. The spectral patterns acquired in the static condition were similar to the intrinsic SERS spectra of 4‐ABT or 4‐dimethylaminobenzenethiol (4‐MABT) adsorbed on pure Ag nanoparticles. Notably, the CH3 group vibrational bands were observable for Ag‐4MABT irrespective of the sample rotation. In addition, no decrease in intensity during irradiation with a visible laser was observed for any of the bands, suggesting that no chemical conversion actually took place in either 4‐ABT or 4‐MABT. The preponderance of evidence led to the conclusion that the non‐a1‐type bands observable in the SERS spectra must be associated with the chemical enhancement mechanism acting on the Ag nanoparticles. The chemical enhancement effect was more profound at 514.5 nm than at 632.8 nm, and was more favorable for 4‐ABT than 4‐MABT at both wavelengths. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), the scattered intensity is drastically increased due to a resonant interaction with surface plasmons of coin metals. SERS is a nondestructive spectroscopic method applied also to biomedical samples. It inherits the advantages of normal Raman spectroscopy and at the same time overcomes the inherent low sensitivity problem. These properties endow SERS with exciting opportunities to be a successful analytical tool for cell analysis. SERS can be used to detect only molecules located on or close to the metallic nanostructures which can support surface plasmon resonances for the enhancement of the Raman signals. Therefore, these metallic nanostructures play a key role in the application of SERS in cell analysis. By incorporating the SERS substrates into the biosamples, molecular structural probing and cellular imaging become possible. In the past decade, analysts worldwide have developed many schemes to study the chemical changes and component distribution in cells by using SERS. In this paper, the application of SERS in cell analysis is reviewed. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A concentration‐dependent Raman study of dimethyl formamide (DMF) in Ag nanocolloidal solution was carried out in order to observe the effect of concentration on the surface enhancement mechanism. The Raman spectra in the region 900–2200 cm−1 comprising four prominent Raman modes were measured experimentally and analyzed at five different concentrations: 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 mM , and in neat DMF. In order to find the possible configurations of DMF + Ag complexes, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out taking one, three and five Ag atom clusters. The Raman spectra of unconjugated DMF, DMF + Ag and DMF + 3Ag complexes were calculated theoretically to assign the vibrational modes under consideration more accurately and to understand the wavenumber shift and change in intensity observed in experimental measurements. Water present in the colloidal solution may also conjugate with DMF and its complexes with Ag. In order to see the influence of water on the wavenumber shift and intensity changes, we have also obtained the optimized structures and Raman modes of DMF + water and DMF + water + Ag complexes. Good agreement between the experimental and theoretical wavenumber shifts has been obtained by using B3LYP functional theory and CEP‐31G basis set for the DMF + Ag complex. The experimental results suggest that the SERS enhancement is concentration‐dependent. The concentration‐dependent linewidth shows the existence of the phenomena of motional narrowing and diffusion dynamics in the colloidal solution. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The Ag–Au compound nanostructure films with controllable patterns of Ag nanoparticle (NP) aggregates were fabricated. A strategy of two‐step synthesis was employed toward the target products. Firstly, the precursor Au NP (17 nm) films were synthesized as templates. Secondly, the Ag NPs (45 nm) were deposited on the precursor films. Three types of Ag NP aggregates were obtained including discrete Ag NPs (discrete type), necklace‐like Ag NP aggregates (necklace type), and huddle‐like Ag NP aggregates (huddle type). The surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) property was studied on these nanostructures by using the probing molecule of rhodamine 6G under the excitation laser of 514.5 nm. Interestingly, the different types of samples showed different enhancement abilities. A statistical method was employed to assess the enhancement. The relative enhancement factor for each Ag NP was estimated quantitatively under the ratio of 1 : 25 : 18 for the discrete‐type, necklace‐type, and huddle‐type samples at the given concentration of 10−8 mol/l. This research shows that the enhancement ability of each Ag NP is dependent on the aggregate morphology. Moreover, the different enhancement abilities displayed different limit detection concentrations up to 10−8, 10−11, and 10−9 mol/l, separately. The understanding of the relationship between the defined nanostructures and the SERS enhancement is very meaningful for the design of new SERS substrates with better performance. Vibrational bands of L ‐tryptophan which was adsorbed on Ag nanoparticles (∼10 nm in diameter) have been investigated in the spectral range of 200–1700 cm−1 using surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. Compared with the normal Raman scattering (NRS) of L ‐tryptophan in either 0.5 M aqueous solution (NRS‐AS) or solid powder (NRS‐SP), the intensified signals by SERS have made the SERS investigation at a lower molecular concentration (5 × 10−4 M ) possible. Ab initio calculations at the B3LYP/6‐311G level have been carried out to predict the optimal structure and vibrational wavenumbers for the zwitterionic form of L ‐tryptophan. Facilitated with the theoretical prediction, the observed vibrational modes of L ‐tryptophan in the NRS‐AS, NRS‐SP, and SERS spectra have been analyzed. In the spectroscopic observations, there are no significant changes for the vibrational bands of the indole ring in either NRS‐AS, NRS‐SP, or SERS. In contrast, spectral intensities involving the vibrations of carboxylate and amino groups are weak in NRS‐AS and NRS‐SP, but strong in SERS. The intensity enhancement in the SERS spectrum can reach 103–104‐fold magnification. On the basis of spectroscopic analysis, the carboxylate and amino groups of L ‐tryptophan are determined to be the preferential terminal groups to attach onto the surfaces of Ag nanoparticles in the SERS measurement.
