An investigation is made of the amplification of a Gaussian electromagnetic pulse in a Cherenkov waveguide laser for the cases of long and short waveguides. It is shown that in the first case, the concept of a characteristic pulse duration τ 0 can be introduced. It is established that when the pulse duration is short (τ<τ 0) the gain is determined only by its spectral width, and the amplification process leads to a change in the pulse envelope. The electrical and luminescent characteristics of a barrier-discharge lamp filled with a Kr/CCl4 (150: 1) mixture are experimentally studied versus the value of pd, which varies in the range (7.6–14) × 103 Pa cm. When simulating the gas discharge using similarity parameters, the following relationships are fulfilled: for pd = const (p is the pressure, d is the interelectrode distance), the pulse duration and the mean current density are τ j ∼ 1/p and 〈j〉 ∼ p; the surface charge density on the electrodes, σ ∼ const; the duration of the UV radiation pulse and the efficiency of UV radiation due to a KrCl* (222 nm) exciplex, τrad ∼ 1/p and η ∼ p 2. The maximal radiation efficiency achieved in the experiments is about 13%. Deviations from the similarity laws for the gas discharge are related to the filamentary form of the observed discharge. Qualitative analysis indicates that similarity laws may be fulfilled for such a form of discharge as well but locally, within a single filament.  相似文献

Possible parametric oscillation of 3-THz pulse at synchronous pumping of the ZnGeP2 crystal by a train of short second-harmonic pulses from the CO2 laser has been analyzed. Calculation shows that at changing laser pulse duration τ between 4 and 500 ps and correspondingly pumping energy density (0.5–3.5 J cm−2) THz pulse peak power varies from 3 to 70MW with maximum at τ =9 ps.  相似文献

We present the results of an experimental study of the ablation energy thresholds and ablated mass for a number of refractory metals (Ti, Zr, Nb, Mo) by femtosecond (τ 0.5 = 45–70 fs) exposed to laser pulses in the ultraviolet — near infrared range (λ = 266, 400, 800 nm) under atmospheric conditions and under vacuum (p ~ 10–2 Pa). We have analyzed the ablation efficiency (mass yield per unit energy of the acting coherent radiation) and ablation energy thresholds vs. the laser pulse duration and photon energy.  相似文献

An exact relation for the realization-averaged effective conductivities in the fractal region is found for two-dimensional randomly inhomogeneous media. It has the form {σ e (τ,L)~× {1/σ e (−τ,L)~−1=σ e 2 (τ=0, Lξ), where ξ is the correlation length (the self-averaging scale), L is the size of the system, τ=(p-p c )/p c , and p c is the percolation threshold. For Lξ, the system is self-averaged, and the relation transforms into the Dykhne reciprocity relation, A. M. Dykhne, Zh. éksp. Teor. Fiz. 59, 110 (1970) [Sov. Phys. The presented theoretical model for a mode-locked Nd-glass laser simultaneously takes into account dynamics of the mode-locking dye, amplification saturation and radiation background. A systematic variation of laser parameters gives insight into the pulse formation process and allows to improve the laser design. The calculations show that it should be possible to decrease considerably the duration of light pulses of a mode-locked Nd-glass laser. Using a new mode-locking dye with a switching time of τ=2.7×10−12 s we obtained stable laser operation and a pulse duration of 1.7×10−12s.  相似文献

Two methods of preparation of the devices for visualization of pulsed and continuous near-IR (near infrared) are described and the results of conversion of pulsed and continuous IR (800–1360 nm) laser radiation into the visible range of spectra (400–680 nm) by using a transparent substrate covered with the particles (including nanoparticles) of effective nonlinear materials of GaSe x S1 − x (0.2 ≤ x ≤ 0.8) are presented. Converted light can be detected in transmission or reflection geometry as a visible spot corresponding to the real size of the incident laser beam. Developed device structures can be used for checking if the laser is working or not, for optical adjustment, for visualization of distribution of laser radiation over the cross of the beam and for investigation of the content of the laser radiation. Low energy (power density) limit for visualization of the IR laser pulses with 2–3 ps duration for these device structures are: between 4.6–2.1 μJ (3 × 10−4−1 × 10−4 W/cm2) at 1200 nm; between 8.4–2.6 μJ (4.7 × 10−4−1.5 × 10−4 W/cm2) at 1300 nm; between 14.4–8.1 μJ (8.2 × 10−4–4.6 × 10−4 W/cm2) at 1360 nm. Threshold damage density is more than 10 MW/cm2 at λ = 1060 nm, pulse duration τ = 35 ps. The results are compared with commercially existing laser light visualizators.  相似文献

The paper reports the pulsed laser-based time-resolved time-dependent Photo-acoustic (PA) spectroscopy of NO2 gas in a specially designed multi mode-Resonant PA Cell which is made of Stainless Steel and has a “Q” value of the order of 79. Furthermore the designed cell allows us to excite some of the longitudinal, radial and azimuthal resonance modes of the photo-acoustic signals simultaneously in a very efficient manner. The presence of many newly excited modes occur at 7050 Hz, 10350 Hz and 14650 Hz frequencies is observed for the first time in NO2 at room temperature. These results are obtained by employing second harmonics i.e. λ=532 nm pulses from Q-switched Nd:YAG laser having 7 ns pulse duration. Some of the new acoustic spectrum lines at higher frequencies are recorded between 0.5–10 ms data acquisition time, which also extends the frequency monitoring range of our system. The study also highlights some of the important aspects such as the decaying behavior of some of these resonant acoustic spectrum lines occur on the expense of others as well as the saturation behavior of some other modes in the NO2 gas sample. The estimated low level detection limit of NO2 buffered in air is of the order of 17.9 ppbV.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the energy relaxation time τe (T) of a two-dimensional electron gas at an AlGaAs/GaAs heterointerface is measured under quasiequilibrium conditions in the region of the transition from scattering by acoustic phonons to scattering with the participation of optical phonons. The temperature interval of constant τe, where scattering by the deformation potential predominates, is determined. In the preceding, low-temperature region, where piezoacoustic and deformation-potential-induced scattering processes coexist, τ e decreases slowly with increasing temperature. Optical phonons start to participate in the scattering processes at T∼25 K (the characteristic phonon lifetime was equal to τLOτ4.5 ps). The energy losses calculated from the τe data in a model with an effective nonequilibrium electron temperature agree with the published data obtained under strong heating conditions. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Collisional coupling between theB, C, andD states of KrF is measured in a discharge pumped KrF laser. Detection of the time resolved populations in the three states via measurement of the side fluorescence in theB→X, C→A, andD→X bands is used to record the collisional relaxation from theC andD state to theB state during laser emission. The experimentally determined limits for the collisional coupling times are τB-C≦1 ns and τB-DC-D<20 ns at total pressures of 2 bar. Investigation of theB→X fluorescence band shows that the vibrational manifold of theB state is not thermalized during laser emission. TheV-V,T coupling time is estimated to be τV-V,T=4±2 ns. The influence of collisional coupling on energy extraction in the KrF laser is discussed.  相似文献

A mechanism acceleration of electrons to relativistic velocities in a thin metal film irradiated with ultrashort (τ L ≤1 ps) high-power (I>16 W/cm2) laser pulses is proposed. The acceleration is due to a resonance action of the nonuniform field on a portion of the electrons, viz., those which oscillate in the direction transverse to the film with a frequency close to the frequency of the field. The advantages of inductive energy storage (IES) generators for increasing the pulse energy, power, and duration for nitrogen laser pumped by self-sustained transverse discharge have been experimentally demonstrated. A theoretical model is developed and the operation of IES-pumped laser on nitrogen-electronegative gas mixtures is numerically simulated. It is shown experimentally and theoretically that, adding electronegative gases, one can control the pulse shape of lasing on the C3II u -B3II g transition in nitrogen. The increase in the electric field strength in the laser gap in N2-NF3 and N2-SF6 mixtures produced 337.1-nm laser pulses consisting of two spaced peaks and 40–50-ns pulses close to rectangular. The increase in the laser active volume to 6 l (discharge cross section to 6×10 cm2) in N2–SF6 mixtures made it possible to obtain the maximum output energy (Q=110 mJ) and UV power (P las =6 MW). In N2-NF3 mixtures, the laser pulse duration was up to ∼100 ns with an energy up to Q=30 mJ.  相似文献

The elastic properties of C60 fullerite samples synthesized under pressure P=13.0 GPa at high temperatures were investigated using acoustic microscopy. The velocities of longitudinal (c L=17–26 km/s) and transverse (c T=7.2–9.6 km/s) elastic waves in the samples were measured. It was established that the longitudinal sound velocity of ultrahard fullerites is higher than that of any other known solid. The bulk modulus of these ultrahard samples is higher than that of diamond and reaches a value greater than 1 TPa. The high bulk modulus, the relatively large shear moduli, and the substantial Poisson ratio indicate that the structure of the ultrahard fullerites is fundamentally different from that of diamond. Current data implies three simple forms of the neutrino mass matrix, each corresponding to the conservation of a nonstandard lepton charge. While models based on L e and L e-L μ-L τ are well known, little attention has been paid to L μ-L τ. A low-energy mass matrix conserving L μ-L τ implies quasidegenerate light neutrinos. Moreover, it is μ-τ symmetric and therefore (in contrast to L e and L e-L μ-L τ) automatically predicts maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing and zero U e3. A seesaw model based on L μ-L τ is investigated and testable predictions for the neutrino mixing observables are given. Renormalization group running below and in between the seesaw scales is taken into account in our analysis, both numerically and analytically. In this paper an alternative approach for measurement of στ product for 4 F 3/24 I 11/2 transition of Nd3+ doped YVO4 crystal is reported. In this method a microchip laser is formed by keeping a small piece of the sample in plane-plane resonator and a diode laser (808 nm) is used for pumping. The pump power induced thermal lensing effect is used to make the cavity stable. The cavity mode area is estimated by measuring the thermal lens focal length at the threshold and the average pump area is measured by Gaussian fit to the intensity profiles of the pump beam. The value of στ product of Nd:YVO4 crystal obtained by this method is within 10% of the reported values. The advantage of this method is that it is a simple method for direct measurement of στ product of laser crystals.  相似文献

The opto-mechanical characteristics, such as the specific mechanical recoil momentum, the specific impulse, and the energy efficiency, of the laser ablation of flat polymer targets ((C2F4) n , (CH2O) n ) have been determined experimentally for the first time for the case of excitation with femtosecond pulses (τ ∼ 45–70 fs) of UV-IR (λ ∼ 266, 400, 800 nm) laser radiation (I 0 up to 1015 W/cm2) under normal atmospheric and vacuum (p ∼ 10−4 mbar) conditions. Laser‐matter interaction is defined by an electronic band structure of condensed matter and frequency ωL of electromagnetic radiation. In the range of moderate fluences, the energy absorbed by electrons from radiation finally thermalizes in the ion thermal energy. The thermalization processes are different for optical as compared with X‐ray quanta and for metals relative to semiconductors and dielectrics, since the light absorption and electron‐electron, electron‐ion dynamics are sensitive to the electron population in a conduction band and the width of a forbidden gap. Although the thermalization processes are different, the final state is simply a heated matter. Laser heating creates powerful stresses in a target if duration of a laser pulse τL is short in acoustic time scale. Nucleation and material removal take place under such stresses. Such way of removal is called here the spallative ablation. Muon spin echo     
A muon spin echo method is proposed for determining the contributions of the static and dynamic local fields in muon experiments. It is shown that if for each muon which has stopped in the sample a rf pulse of fixed duration is applied to the sample at a time τ after the muon entered the sample, then after a sufficient number of muon-positron decays have been accumulated a muon spin echo can appear at time 2τ. The results of the first experiments devised to investigate the mixing of thin layers of Al and Au during the laser acceleration of flat three-layer targets of Si (5 μm), Al (2 μm), and Au (0.05–0.26 μm) by radiation converted to the second harmonic from the Iskra-4 iodine laser with an intensity of 4×1013−7×1013 W/cm2 (τ 0.5∼1 ns), which acts on the Si side of the target. A method for detecting the occurrence of mixing is developed. It is established that under the experimental conditions the thickness of the mixing region is at least ∼0.15 μm.
