This work reports the experimental characterization of detonation initiation modes in a confined chamber in respect to the different types of reacting waves generated in various small-diameter ignition tubes. Depending on the length of the tube and mixtures composition, four types of reacting waves can be generated and utilized to initiate detonation in the main chamber, namely the over-driven detonation ignition wave, CJ detonation ignition wave, high-speed deflagration ignition wave and deflagration ignition wave. Based on the mechanisms of detonation initiation in the main chamber, four initiation modes can be observed: the direct initiation, the local explosion initiation, and the fast and slow deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) initiation. By comparing the detonation initiation positions and flame-tip velocities, the first two modes show appreciably shorter initiation distances compared to the DDT modes. The over-driven detonation ignition wave is shown to yield a high probability of direct initiation, while contrary to expectation, the high-speed deflagration ignition wave exhibits superior initiation performance compared to the CJ detonation ignition wave. It is illustrated that the energy decay through diffraction and the effect of precursor shock wave reflection on the wall of the rectangular chamber are viable factors responsible for this observation. The deflagration ignition wave is also shown to be able to rapidly initiate the detonation near the inlet of the chamber, albeit with a lower success rate.  相似文献

The unsteady, reactive Navier-Stokes equations with a detailed chemical mechanism of 11 species and 27 steps were employed to simulate the mixing, flame acceleration and deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) triggered by transverse jet obstacles. Results show that multiple transverse jet obstacles ejecting into the chamber can be used to activate DDT. But the occurrence of DDT is tremendously difficult in a non-uniform supersonic mixture so that it required several groups of transverse jets with increasing stagnation pressure. The jets introduce flow turbulence and produce oblique and bow shock waves even in an inhomogeneous supersonic mixture. The DDT is enhanced by multiple explosion points that are generated by the intense shock wave focusing of the leading flame front. It is found that the partial detonation front decouples into shock and flame, which is mainly caused by the fuel deficiency, nevertheless the decoupled shock wave is strong enough to reignite the mixture to detonation conditions. The resulting transverse wave leads to further mixing and burning of the downstream non-equilibrium chemical reaction, resulting in a high combustion temperature and intense flow instabilities. Additionally, the longitudinal and transverse gradients of the non-uniform supersonic mixture induce highly dynamic behaviors with sudden propagation speed increase and detonation front instabilities.  相似文献

Oblique detonation waves stabilized in rectangular-cross-section bent tubes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Oblique detonation waves, which are generated by a fundamental detonation phenomenon occurring in bent tubes, may be applied to fuel combustion in high-efficiency engines such as a pulse detonation engine (PDE) and a rotating detonation engine (RDE). The present study has experimentally demonstrated that steady-state oblique detonation waves propagated stably through rectangular-cross-section bent tubes by visualizing these waves using a high-speed camera and the shadowgraph method. The oblique detonation waves were stabilized under the conditions of high initial pressure and a large curvature radius of the inside wall of the rectangular-cross-section bent tube. The geometrical shapes of the stabilized oblique detonation waves were calculated, and the results of the calculation were in good agreement with those of our experiment. Moreover, it was experimentally shown that the critical condition under which steady-state oblique detonation waves can stably propagate through the rectangular-cross-section bent tubes was the curvature radius of the inside wall of the rectangular-cross-section bent tube equivalent to 14–40 times the cell width.  相似文献

An experimental configuration is devised in the present investigation whereby the condition at the final phase of the deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) process can be generated reproducibly by reflecting a CJ detonation from a perforated plate. The detonation products are transmitted downstream through the plate, generating a turbulent reaction front that mixes with the unburned mixture and that drives a precursor shock ahead of it at a strength of about M = 3. The gasdynamic condition that is generated downstream of the perforated plate closely corresponds to that just prior to the onset of detonation in the DDT process. The turbulence parameters can be controlled by varying the geometry of the perforated plate; thus, the condition leading to the onset of detonation can be experimentally investigated. A one-dimensional theoretical analysis of the steady wave processes was first performed, and the experimental results show good agreement, indicating that the present experimental condition can be theoretically described. Two different detonation tube geometries (one with a square cross-section of 300 mm by 300 mm and the other with a circular cross-section of 150 mm) are used to demonstrate the independence of the tube diameter at the critical condition for DDT. Perforated plates with different hole diameters (d = 8, 15, and 25 mm) were tested, and the hole spacing to hole diameter ratio was maintained at 0.5. Different hydrogen–air mixtures were tested at normal temperature and pressure. For the plate with 8 mm holes, the onset of detonation is never observed. For the plate with 15 mm holes, successful initiation of a detonation is achieved for 0.8 < < 1.75 in both detonation tubes. For the plate with 25 mm holes, detonation initiation is observed for 0.7 < < 2.1 in the square detonation tube and for 0.8 < < 1.6 in the smaller circular detonation tube.  相似文献

The initiation and propagation of detonation waves in combustible high speed flows were studied experimentally. A planar detonation wave traveling in an initiation tube was transmitted into a test section where a combustible high speed flow was induced by an incident shock wave generated in a shock tube. In this study, the flow Mach numbers were obtained as 0.9 and 1.2. The experimental results show that depending on the flow velocity, the apparent propagation velocity of a detonation wave is higher in the upstream and lower in the downstream direction than the CJ velocity. Smoked plate records reveal cellular patterns deformed in the flow direction, and the calculated aspect ratios of the cell were found to agree well with the experimental ones on the basis of the assumption that the velocity of the transverse wave is not affected by the flowing mixture. By analyzing the shock-wave diffraction at the position where there is an abrupt change in the area, on the basis of Whitham’s theory, it was deduced that in the present experimental set-up, the detonation was initiated by the reflection of the diffracted shock waves on the sidewalls of the test section. The agreement between the experimental and calculated results regarding the position of the cellular patterns on the smoked plate record indicated that the position of detonation initiation in high speed flows is shifted downstream due to the flow velocity.  相似文献

采用具有像增强功能的光谱探测器——增强型电荷耦合器件ICCD和DG535同步控制器,应用激波管技术和光纤光谱方法,由压力传感器监测爆燃转爆轰的过程,在解决了同步控制,防止误触发等问题后,从爆炸激波管的侧窗拍摄到了环氧丙烷由爆燃转变为爆轰时刻的曝光时间为2μs,分辨率达到0·2nm的瞬态发射光谱。对所测光谱进行强度定标后,可直接得到环氧丙烷爆轰时刻的热辐射背景,用黑体辐射公式按照最小二乘法原则对其进行拟合,得到了环氧丙烷的爆轰温度为2416K。此爆轰温度的获得,为进一步分析环氧丙烷爆燃转爆轰过程的微观机理提供了实验数据。  相似文献

An experimental study was conducted to characterize fundamental behavior of detonation waves propagating across an array of reactant jets inside a narrow channel, which simulated an unwrapped rotating detonation engine (RDE) configuration. Several key flow features in an ethylene-oxygen combustor were explored by sending detonation waves across reactant jets entering into cold bounding gas as well as hot combustion products. In this setup, ethylene and oxygen were injected separately into each recessed injector tube, while a total of 15 injectors were used to establish a partially premixed reactant jet array. The results revealed various details of transient flowfield, including a complex detonation wave front leading a curved oblique shock wave, the unsteady production of transverse waves at the edge of the reactant jets, and the onset of suppressed reactant jets re-entering the combustor following a detonation wave passage. The visualization images showed a complex, multidimensional, and highly irregular detonation wave front. It appeared non-uniform mixing of reactant jets lead to dynamic transverse wave structure. The refreshed reactant jets evolving in the wake of the detonation wave were severely distorted, indicating the effect of dynamic flowfield and rapid pressure change. The results suggest that the mixing between the fuel and oxidizer, as well as the mixing between the fresh reactants and the background products, should affect the stability of the RDE combustor processes.  相似文献

We studied experimentally the shock waves and combustion waves generated by a hypersonic spherical projectile in an explosive mixture. An acetylene/oxygen mixture diluted with argon (2C2H2 + 5O2 + 7Ar) was used with various initial pressures (detonation cell sizes) to observe optically with a shadowgraph imaging system a shock-induced combustion (SIC), a stable oblique detonation wave (ODW), and a wave called a Straw Hat type consisting of a strong SIC and ODW. The criticality of stabilizing an ODW around a projectile is expressed by the ratio of the projectile diameter, d, to the cell size, λ, as d/λ = 3.63–4.84. Although the Straw Hat type wave in the vicinity of criticality is an unstable phenomena, it has been mainly observed by a single frame picture to date, so that it is difficult to discuss the time history of its wave structure. In this study, it was remarkable to directly carry out continuous optical observations using a high speed video camera which can continuously film 100 pictures with a 1 μs frame speed so as to allow an investigation of the sustaining mechanism of the unstable wave structure. Our results allowed the identification of an increase in unsteadiness in the relative distance between the projectile fronts and the transition points to an ODW as the time increased. They also showed local explosions in the SIC region near transition point transformed the ODW front upstream.  相似文献

The structure of ZND waves under simple three step chain-branching kinetics is analyzed, assuming a slow initiation rate but arbitrary chain-branching activation energy. The analysis allows for a complete solution for the ZND wave in all cases, inside or outside the chain-branching explosion region, or close to the explosion limit. Results show that even when the von Neumann point is inside the explosion region, chain-branching effectively stops and the chain-branching radical concentration reaches a small near-steady value before all the reactant is consumed. Beyond that point, chemistry proceeds slowly, at a rate of the order of the initiation rate. For a von Neumann point relatively close to the limit, the reactant concentration is still quite significant when chain-branching stops, but diminishes for von Neumann points deeper inside the explosion region. The assumption that initiation is much slower than chain-branching is often quite accurate, in which case the length required for complete burn is orders of magnitude longer than the chain-branching length, so that as a practical matter, combustion never completes. In contrast, numerical simulation shows that under the same conditions, the cellular wave results in a more complete burn.  相似文献

The results of studying deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) in hydrogen-methane (propane)-air in a detonation tube with uniformly spaced annular obstacles are presented. The effect of the scaling factor on the DDT was identified. The boundary between fast deflagration and detonation regimes was calculated using a criterion based on a comparison of the gasdynamic and chemical characteristic times for the ignition of the mixture behind the shock wave reflected from an obstacle.  相似文献

Paper reports a result of experiments of spherical shock waves generated by explosions of micro-explosives weighing from 1 to 10 mg ignited by the irradiation of Q-switched laser beam and direct initiation to a spherical detonation wave in stoichiometric oxygen/hydrogen mixtures at 10–200 kPa. We visualized the interaction of debris particles ejected micro-explosives’ surface with shock waves by using double exposure holographic interferometry and high-speed video recording. Upon explosion, minute inert debris launched supersonically from micro-charge surface precursory to shock waves initiated spherical detonation waves. To examine this effect we attached 0.5–2.0 μm diameter SiO2 particles densely on micro-explosive surfaces and observed that the supersonic particles, significantly promoted the direct initiation of spherical detonation waves. The domain and boundary of detonation wave initiations were experimentally obtained at various initial pressures and the amount of micro-charges.  相似文献

Detonations in explosive mixtures of ammonium-nitrate-fuel-oil (ANFO) confined by aluminum allow for transport of detonation energy ahead of the detonation front due to the aluminum sound-speed exceeding the detonation velocity. The net effect of this energy transport on the detonation is unclear. It could enhance the detonation by precompressing the explosive near the wall. Alternatively, it could decrease the explosive performance by crushing porosity required for initiation by shock compression or destroying confinement ahead of the detonation. At present, these phenomena are not well understood. But with slowly detonating, non-ideal high explosive (NIHE) systems becoming increasing prevalent, proper understanding and prediction of the performance of these metal-confined NIHE systems is desirable. Experiments are discussed that measured the effect of ANFO detonation energy transported upstream of the front by a 76-mm-inner-diameter aluminum confining tube. Detonation velocity, detonation front-shape, and aluminum response are recorded as a function of confiner wall thickness and length. Detonation shape profiles display little curvature near the confining surface, which is attributed to energy transported upstream modifying the flow. Average detonation velocities were seen to increase with increasing confiner thickness, while wavefront curvature decreased due to the stiffer, subsonic confinement. Significant radial sidewall tube motion was observed immediately ahead of the detonation. Axial motion was also detected, which interfered with the front-shape measurements in some cases. It was concluded that the confiner was able to transport energy ahead of the detonation and that this transport has a definite effect on the detonation by modifying its characteristic shape.  相似文献

We study flame acceleration and deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) in channels with obstacles using 2D and 3D reactive Navier–Stokes numerical simulations. The energy release rate for the stoichiometric H2–air mixture is modeled by a one-step Arrhenius kinetics. Computations show that at initial stages, the flame and flow acceleration is caused by thermal expansion of hot combustion products. At later stages, shock–flame interactions, Rayleigh–Taylor, Richtmyer–Meshkov, and Kelvin–Helmholtz instabilities, and flame–vortex interactions in obstacle wakes become responsible for the increase of the flame surface area, the energy-release rate, and, eventually, the shock strength. Computations performed for different channel widths d with the distance between obstacles d and the constant blockage ratio 0.5 reproduce the main regimes observed in experiments: choking flames, quasi-detonations, and detonations. For quasi-detonations, both the initial DDT and succeeding detonation reignitions occur when the Mach stem, created by the reflection of the leading shock from the bottom wall, collides with an obstacle. As the size of the system increases, the time to DDT and the distance to DDT increase linearly with d2. We also observe an intermediate regime of fast flame propagation in which local detonations periodically appear behind the leading shock, but do not reach it.  相似文献

The objective of the research outlined in this paper is to provide experimental and computational data on initiation, propagation, and stability of gaseous fuel–air detonations in tubes with U-bends implying their use for design optimization of pulse detonation engines (PDEs). The experimental results with the U-bends of two curvatures indicate that, on the one hand, the U-bend of the tube promotes the shock-induced detonation initiation. On the other hand, the detonation wave propagating through the U-bend is subjected to complete decay or temporary attenuation followed by the complete recovery in the straight tube section downstream from the U-bend. Numerical simulation of the process reveals some salient features of transient phenomena in U-tubes.  相似文献

Detonation development from a hot spot has been extensively studied, where ignition occurs earlier than that in the surrounding mixtures. It has also been reported that a cool spot can induce detonation for large hydrocarbon fuels with Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) behavior, since ignition could happen earlier at lower temperatures. In this work we find that even for hydrogen/air mixtures without NTC behaviors, a cold wall can still initiate and promote detonation. End-wall reflection of the pressure wave and wall heat loss introduce an exothermic center outside the boundary layer, and then autoignitive reaction fronts on both sides may evolve into detonation waves. The right branch can be further strengthened by appropriate temperature gradient near the cold wall, and exhibits different dynamics at various initial conditions. The small excitation time and the large diffusivity of hydrogen provide the possibility for detonation development within the limited space between the autoignition kernel and the cold wall. Moreover, detonation may also develop near the flame front, which may or may not co-exist with detonation waves from the cold wall. Correspondingly, wall heat flux evolution exhibits different responses to detailed dynamic structures. Finally, we propose a regime diagram describing different combustion modes including normal flame, autoignition, and detonation from the wall and/or the reaction front. The boundary of normal flame regime qualitatively agrees with the prediction by the Livengood-Wu Integral method, while the detonation development from both the end wall and the reaction front observes Zel'dovich mechanism. Compared to hydrocarbons, hydrogen is resistant to knock onset but it is more prone to superknock development. The latter mode becomes more destructive in the presence of wall heat loss. This study isolates and identifies the role of wall heat loss on a potential mechanism for superknock development in hydrogen-fueled spark-ignition engines.  相似文献

The evolution from a temperature gradient to a detonation is investigated for combustion mixture whose chemistry is governed by a detailed chemical kinetics. We show that a detailed chemical reaction model has a profound effect on the spontaneous wave concept for detonation initiation by a gradient of reactivity. The evolution to detonation due to a temperature gradient is considered for hydrogen-oxygen and hydrogen-air mixtures at different initial pressures. It is shown that the minimal length of the temperature gradient for which a detonation can be ignited is much larger than that predicted from a one-step chemical model.  相似文献

 基于带化学反应的二维轴对称Euler方程,利用带有Superbee限制函数的波传播算法,对共振腔中的氢气-空气预混气的聚心燃烧进行了数值模拟,讨论了共振腔不同抛物面对起爆的影响。数值结果表明,在开始阶段,燃烧诱导的激波在轴心、火焰和固壁的反射,使火焰失稳,随后共振腔中的抛物壁面上产生一定频率和强度的反射激波,不断穿越火焰,使火焰进一步失稳,加剧了燃烧速度,最终导致爆轰的形成。同时,火焰在与激波的作用过程中,形状扭曲变形,呈封闭端小敞口端大的扁平头部蘑菇云。共振腔抛物面的不同形状引起激波聚焦位置的变化,会影响激波和火焰的相互作用,使起爆提前或推迟,甚至不起爆。  相似文献
