The role of dietary fat in health and wellness continues to evolve. In today's environment, trans fatty acids and obesity are issues that are impacted by dietary fat. In response to new information in these areas, changes in the amount and composition of edible fats and oils have occurred and are occurring. These compositional changes include variation in fatty acid composition and innovation in fat structure. Soybean, canola, and sunflower are examples of oilseeds with varied fatty acid composition, including mid-oleic, high-oleic, and low-linolenic traits. These trait-enhanced oils are aimed to displace partially hydrogenated vegetable oils primarily in frying applications. Examples of oils with innovation in fat structure include enzyme interesterified (EIE) fats and oils and diacylglycerol oil. EIE fats are a commercial edible fat innovation, where a lipase is used to modify the fat structure of a blend of hard fat and liquid oil. EIE fats are aimed to displace partially hydrogenated vegetable oils in baking and spread applications. Diacylglycerol and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT)-based oils are commercial edible oil innovations. Diacylglycerol and MCT-based oils are aimed for individuals looking to store less of these fats as body fat when they are used in place of traditional cooking and salad oils.  相似文献

Arylhydrazines are detected by oxidation with N-bromosuccinimide and coupling with resorcinol to form azo-dyes which are intensely coloured in alkaline media. Hydrazones and osazones are hydrolysed to form the arylhydrazines, which are then tested for 4-Nitro- and 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazines are tested for by forming their hydrazone with salicylaldehyde and adding alkali to produce a violet colour. The hydroxylamine formed by the hydrolysis of oximes is oxidized by iodine monochloride in the presence of sulphanilic acid; coupling with 8-hydroxyquinoline forms a dye that is red in alkali. Intense colours are immediately produced when primary, secondary and tertiary aromatic amines are mixed with diacetoxyiodobenzene. All the tests are sensitive and appear to be specific.  相似文献

Gold ultra-microelectrode arrays are used to explore the electrochemical oxidation of hydroxide ions and are shown to be analytical useful. Two types of ultra-microelectrode arrays are used; the first consist of 256 individual electrodes of 5 microm in radius, 170 of which are electrochemically active in a cubic arrangement which are separated from their nearest neighbour by a distance of 100 microm. The second array compromises 2597 electrodes of 2.5 microm in radius and of which 1550 of which are electrochemically active in a hexagonal arrangement separated by the nearest neighbour by 55 microm. Well defined voltammetric waves are found with peak currents proportional to the concentration of hydroxide ions in the range 50 microM to 1 mM. Detection limits of 20 microM using the 170 ultra-microelectrode and 10 microM with the 1550 ultra-microelectrode array are shown to be possible but with a higher sensitivity of 4 mA M(-1) observed using the 1550 ultra-microelectrode array compared to 1.2 mA M(-1) with the 170 ultra-microelectrode array.  相似文献

Enthalpimetric methods used in chemical production and in process development are reviewed.On-line methods are applied to concentration analysis, to safety monitoring and to the control of reaction progress.The most promising applications of thermal methods are found in process development: enthalpimetric process investigation on the bench scale. Design principles for “process calorimeters” are outlined and applications to a pressure reaction, to a highly unstable radical reaction and to fermentations are shown.  相似文献

The structures, energetics, electronic properties, and spectra of hydrated hydroxide anions are studied using density functional and high level ab initio calculations. The overall structures and binding energies are similar to the hydrated anion clusters, in particular, to the hydrated fluoride anion clusters except for the tetrahydrated clusters and hexahydrated clusters. In tetrahydrated system, tricoordinated structures and tetracoordinated structures are compatible, while in pentahydrated systems and hexahydrated systems, tetracoordinated structures are stable. The hexahydrated system is similar in structure to the hydrated chloride cluster. The thermodynamic quantities (enthalpies and free energies) of the clusters are in good agreement with the experimental values. The electronic properties induced by hydration are similar to hydrated chloride anions. The charge-transfer-to-solvent energies of these hydrated-hydroxide anions are discussed, and the predicted ir spectra are used to explain the experimental data in terms of the cluster structures. The low-energy barriers between the conformations along potential energy surfaces are reported.  相似文献

The origins and properties of evaporation and condensation coefficients are described, and results of their measurement are surveyed for water and liquid metals. Contrasts are drawn as to whether their values are likely to limit practical transfer rates at plane surfaces and on aerosols, and between evaporation and condensation. Existing theories which express condensation and evaporation rates in terms of the coefficients are described. Their failure to satisfy energy and momentum conservation as well as mass conservation at the interface is remedied by constructing a new theory which also starts with vapor molecules in Maxwell-Boltzmann distributions. The resulting rates are shown to be close to those predicted by more accurate theories in which the Boltzmann transport equation is solved.  相似文献

Fast atom bombardment mass spectra of a range of involatile monophosphonated and mixed sulphonated/monophosphonated azo dyestuffs are presented. Good spectra are obtained and the fragmentations are discussed with special reference to the ions formed by cleavage of the azo linkage. The negative ion spectra are shown to be superior in terms of signal to background and structural information to those obtained in the positive ion mode. The results are compared with those obtained from sulphonated azo dyestuffs.  相似文献

Energy minimization and molecular dynamics simulations are used to develop, for the first time, atomistic models of HCl- and HBr-doped conducting polyanilines, in order to study diffusion and adsorption of water vapor in the polymers. Various morphological properties of the polymers are computed, including their pair correlation functions that are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data, and their accessible free volumes. Also computed are the sorption isotherms and effective self-diffusivity of water vapor in the polymers. The computed sorption isotherms are in quantitative agreement with the experimental data, while the diffusivities are within an order of magnitude of the data. The reasons for the differences between the computed and measured diffusivities are discussed.  相似文献

Over the years nuclear methods have proved to be a valuable asset to industry in general and to the automotive industry in particular. This paper summarizes some of the most important recent contributions of nuclear technology to the development of vehicles having high quality and long-term durability. Radiotracer methods are used to measure engine oil consumption and the wear rates of inaccessible components. Radiographic and tomographic methods are used to image fluids and structures in engines and accessory components. Tracers are used to understand combustion chemistry and quantify fluid flow. Gauging methods are used for inspection and process control. Nuclear analytical methods are used routinely for materials characterization and problem solving. Although nuclear methods are usually considered as the means of last resort, they can often be applied more easily and quickly than conventional methods when those in industrial engineering and R&D are aware of their unique capabilities.  相似文献

Molecular complexes such as double-stranded oligonucleotides contain non-covalent bonds that are difficult to maintain in the MALDI experiment. Quantifiers are introduced in order to evaluate, summarize, and compare spectra from experiments in which additives are used to stabilize duplex oligonucleotides. Compounds known to complex with and stabilize duplex molecules can be useful as additives in MALDI. Spermine and methylene blue, present at concentrations similar to the matrix, are detected, bound to the duplex. When peptides are used as additives, the duplex is stabilized when the peptide is present at an amount less than that of the duplex.  相似文献

The ionisation energies and the HeI photoelectron spectra of the N-oxides of diazabenzenes are presented. The valence electronic structures of the N-oxides are discussed in view of the ionisation energies, and the profiles, of the bands. The interpreted data are compared to calculations which are in good agreement. The results are correlated to the physicochemical studies, and particularly to the electronic absorption spectroscopy, of the N-oxides. The assignment of the photoelectron spectra of the azabenzenes are considered with reference to the spectra of their N-oxides.  相似文献

Pterins are bicyclic heterocycles that are found widely across Nature and are involved in a variety of biological functions. Notably, pterins are found at the core of molybdenum cofactor (Moco) containing enzymes in the molybdopterin (MPT) ligand that coordinates molybdenum and facilitates cofactor activity. Pterins are diverse and can be widely functionalized to tune their properties. Herein, the general methods of synthesis, redox and spectroscopic properties of pterin are discussed to provide more insight into pterin chemistry and their importance to biological systems.  相似文献

Hydrophobins are surface active proteins that are produced by filamentous fungi. They are interesting from a Surf Sci point of view because some of their properties as surface active proteins are quite spectacular. In this review, recent advances in understanding these properties will be surveyed. We will attempt to define what the properties are that make them unique. As an understanding of both structure and function of hydrophobins is emerging we see that this is paving the way for industrial applications as well as an understanding of their biological functions.

Major recent advances

Recently there has been a clear increase in attempts to use hydrophobins in applications. We are starting to understand their unique properties as surfactants and especially applications related to the stability and development of foams and various surface treatments are emerging. There are several new reports on molecular structures as well on mechanisms of self-assembly. Hydrophobins have functions in biology that are far from understood, but also here techniques are developing and a broader understanding is emerging.  相似文献

Proteins are one of the important substances in understanding biological activity, and many of them express the function by binding to other proteins or small molecules (ligands) on the molecular surface. This interaction often occurs in the hollows (pockets) on the molecular surface of the protein. It is known that when pockets are similar in structure and physical properties, they are likely to express similar functions and to bind similar ligands. Therefore, exploring the similarity of the structure and physical properties in pockets is very useful because it leads to the discovery of new ligands that are likely to bind. In addition, exploring the important structure when binding to the protein significant spot in the ligand will provide useful knowledge for the development of new ligands.In this study, we propose a method to search for proteins containing pockets that are structurally and physically similar to significant spot in the pocket of the analyzed protein, and to extract significant spots in the ligands that bind to them. We use feature points as data. Feature points are the 3-dimensional points that are extracted from 3D structure data of proteins with feature values quantifying hydrophobicity and electrostatic potential. The corresponding feature points are extracted by comparing structurally and physically the pockets of the search target proteins with the significant spot of the analyzed protein. By evaluating the similarity based on the comparison results of the feature values given to the extracted feature points, we search for proteins that are similar to the analyzed protein. From the ligands that bind to the searched proteins, atoms that are near the protein pocket and similar to the atoms in ligand binding to the analyzed protein are extracted. The site constituted by the extracted atoms is defined as a significant spot in the ligand.As a result of classifying ligands binding to the protein by using the extracted significant spot in the ligand, the effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed.  相似文献

Ultrafast spectrally resolved stimulated vibrational echo experiments are used to measure the vibrational dephasing of the CO stretching mode of hemoglobin-CO (HbCO) inside living human erythrocytes (red blood cells), in liquid solutions, and in a glassy matrix. A method is presented to overcome the adverse impact on the vibrational echo signal from the strong light scattering caused by the cells. The results from the cytoplasmic HbCO are compared to experiments on aqueous HbCO samples prepared in different buffers, solutions containing low and high concentrations of glycerol, and in a solid trehalose matrix. Measurements are also presented that provide an accurate determination of the viscosity at the very high Hb concentration that is found inside the cells. It is demonstrated that the dynamics of the protein, as sensed by the CO ligand, are the same inside the erythrocytes and in aqueous solution and are independent of the viscosity. In solutions that are predominantly glycerol, the dynamics are modified somewhat but are still independent of viscosity. The experiments in trehalose give the dynamics at infinite viscosity and are used to separate the viscosity-dependent dynamics from the viscosity-independent dynamics. Although the HbCO dynamics are the same in the red blood cell and in the equivalent aqueous solutions, differences in the absorption spectra show that the distribution of a protein's equilibrium substates is sensitive to small pH differences.  相似文献

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is a technique to manipulate trajectories of polarisable particles in nonuniform electric fields by utilizing unique dielectric properties. The manipulation of a cell using DEP has been demonstrated in various modes, thereby indicating potential applications in the biomedical field. In this review, recent DEP applications in the biomedical field are discussed. This review is intended to highlight research work that shows significant approach related to DEP application in biomedical field reported between 2016 and 2020. First, single-shell model and multiple-shell model of cells are introduced. Current device structures and recently introduced electrode patterns for DEP applications are discussed. Second, the biomedical uses of DEP in liquid biopsies, stem cell-based therapies, and diagnosis of infectious diseases due to bacteria and viruses are presented. Finally, the challenges in DEP research are discussed, and the reported solutions are explained. DEP's potential research directions are mentioned.  相似文献

Second, third, and fourth thermal and acoustic virial coefficients between 100 and 1000 K are computed for different argon interaction models derived from combinations of accurate two- and three-body potentials. Differences between the various interaction models tested mirror the presumed order in the accuracy of these models, but are not well captured at the level of the lowest-order contributions in the virial expansion: While the second- and third-order virial coefficients are found to be rather insensitive to small variations in the two- and three-body potentials, more pronounced differences in higher-order coefficients are currently of limited use in assessing the accuracy of the interaction potential due to difficulties in the unambiguous experimental determination of these higher-order coefficients. In contrast, pressure-volume and speed-of-sound data - both of which are experimentally known to highest accuracies - are found to be insensitive to small variations in the interaction model. All but the least accurate models reproduce experimental pressure-volume and speed-of-sound data near-quantitatively in regions where the (fourth-order) virial expansions apply. All quantities considered are found to be completely unaffected by a non-vanishing quadruple-dipole four-body potential.  相似文献

Amphiphilic gold nanoparticles are demonstrated to effectively stabilize emulsions of hexadecane in water. Nanoparticle surfactants are synthesized using a simple and scalable one-pot method that involves the sequential functionalization of particle surfaces with thiol-terminated polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains and short alkane-thiol molecules. The resulting nanoparticles are shown to be highly effective emulsifying agents due to their strong adsorption at oil-water and air-water interfaces. The original nonfunctionalized gold nanoparticles are unable to effectively stabilize oil-water emulsions due to their small size and low adsorption energy. Small-angle X-ray scattering and electron microscopy are used to demonstrate the formation of nanoparticle-stabilized colloidosomes that are stable against coalescence and show significant shifts in plasmon resonance enhancing the near-infrared optical absorption.  相似文献
