Comments on “Imprecise probability models for learning multinomial distributions from data. Applications to learning credal networks” by Andrés R. Masegosa and Serafín Moral

We briefly overview the problem of learning probabilities from data using imprecise probability models that express very weak prior beliefs. Then we comment on the new contributions to this question given in the paper by Masegosa and Moral and provide some insights about the performance of their models in data mining experiments of classification.     

Rejoinder on “Likelihood-based belief function: Justification and some extensions to low-quality data”

This note is a rejoinder to comments by Dubois and Moral about my paper “Likelihood-based belief function: justification and some extensions to low-quality data” published in this issue. The main comments concern (1) the axiomatic justification for defining a consonant belief function in the parameter space from the likelihood function and (2) the Bayesian treatment of statistical inference from uncertain observations, when uncertainty is quantified by belief functions. Both issues are discussed in this note, in response to the discussants' comments.     

Rejoinder on “A distance-based statistical analysis of fuzzy number-valued data”

This note is a rejoinder on our paper in this issue. It attempts to provide some clarifications and thoughts in connection with the discussions/comments made about it by Didier Dubois and Sébastien Destercke. We hope our comments are at the level of the discussants'.     

“Compactly” supported frames for spaces of distributions on the ball

Frames are constructed on the unit ball B ^d in ${\mathbb{R}^d}$ consisting of smooth functions with small shrinking supports. The new frames are designed so that they can be used for decomposition of weighted Triebel–Lizorkin and Besov spaces on B ^d with weight ${w_\mu(x):=(1-|x|^2)^{\mu-1/2}, \mu}$ half integer,?μ?≥ 0.

A note on “hierarchical models for multi-project planning and scheduling”

We consider the multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem. The focus of our analysis is on an algorithm recently proposed by Speranza and Vercellis for finding makespan minimal solutions. The correctness of the algorithm is examined. By counterexamples we illustrate that the algorithm does not generally find (existing) optimal solutions.

This is a short note in which I reply to the comments and suggestions made by Luciano Sánchez, Sebastian Destercke and Didier Dubois on my article “Learning from Imprecise and Fuzzy Observations: Data Disambiguation through Generalized Loss Minimization”.     

Comments on “baseline models of sociological phenomena” by Bruce H. Mayhew

IKI NO KOZO (The Structure of IKI), authored by Shuzo Kuki in 1930, has been an influential piece of work on Japanese culture with its emphasis on IKI as an aesthetical cultural entity. The present paper attempts to reformulate the structure of IKI depicted by Kuki in terms of a group theory in mathematics. By deriving various implications from a group‐theoretic model of IKI, I want to show the significance of mathematical approaches to culture.     

Localization of translation-invariant Gibbs measures for the Potts and “solid-on-solid” models on a Cayley tree

We study Potts and “solid-on-solid” models with q ≥ 2 states on the Cayley tree of order k ≥ 1. For any values of the parameter q in the Potts model and q ≤ 6 in the “solid-on-solid” model, we find sets containing all translation-invariant Gibbs measures.     

Elements on the Concept and Design of a Tracked Mini Robot – “ROBO GENIU” – Destined for Special Applications

The authors of this paper aim to highlight issues related to the organology and the integration of the hardware component in the mechanical structure of a tracked mini robot, called Robo Geniu, part of the unmanned ground vehicles category having the ability to act autonomously and enabling its endowment with means of observation, listening, tapping, relaying and jamming. This paper reveals, in detail, the composing parts of the hardware component, as well as the way they are assembled in the mechanical structure of the mini robot under study.
