The concepts of knowledge and accomplishment are duals. There are many parallels between them. In this paper I discuss the "AA" thesis, which is dual to the well known KK thesis. The KK thesis claims that if someone knows something, then she knows that she knows it. This is generally thought to be false, and there are powerful reasons for rejecting it. The AA thesis claims that if someone accomplishes something, then she accomplishes that she accomplishes it. I argue that this, too, is false, and that the reasons it is false parallel reasons for the falsity of the KK thesis.  相似文献

This is a summary of the author’s PhD thesis, supervised by Edoardo Amaldi and defended on 28 April 2006 at Politecnico di Milano, Dipartimento di Matematica. The thesis is written in English and is available from the author upon request. The thesis investigates a class of nonlinear set covering variants arising from the problem of designing single-frequency Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) with maximum efficiency. In the first part of the thesis a basic hyperbolic formulation of the problem is considered. After a complexity and approximability study, the problem is tackled by linearization techniques, and by Lagrangean and Dantzig–Wolfe decompositions. The second part of the thesis focuses on variants accounting for various relevant features of the WLAN application. A Branch-and-Price algorithm is presented, and extensions to the multiple-frequency WLAN design problem are considered.   相似文献

This thesis, written in English, was supervised by Frits Spieksma and defended on September 23, 2005 at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. 毕业论文是高校实施教学计划的重要环节.针对目前很多高校毕业论文评价方法中存在的一些问题,结合论文评价过程的相关特点,在层次分析法(AHP)的基础上提出了群组AHP模型和模糊AHP模型两种决策优化模型,给出了基于这两种模型的高校学生毕业论文综合评价方法.实践表明,在对学生论文进行评价的过程中,方法具有合理、公正、简便、灵活、易于推广的特点,开发的基于该方法的毕业论文评价系统具有很强的应用价值.  相似文献

Conversational contextualism in epistemology is characterized by four main theses: 1. the indexicality of knowledge claims thesis; 2. the attributor contextualism thesis; 3. the conversational contextualism thesis, and 4. the main thesis of contextualism according to which a knowledge claim can be true in one context and false in another context in which more stringent standards for knowledge are operant. It is argued that these theses taken together generate problems for contextualism. In particular, it is shown that there is no context in which the contextualist can truthfully claim to know her theory is true. Since these results were obtained only with principles the contextualist cannot give up—like the principle of epistemic closure and the principle that knowledge implies truth—it seems that contextualism is in need of a thoroughgoing revision if it is to become a successful epistemic theory.  相似文献
