We create Bose-Einstein condensates of 87Rb in a static magnetic trap with a superimposed blue-detuned 1D optical lattice. By displacing the magnetic trap center we are able to control the condensate evolution. We observe a change in the frequency of the center-of-mass oscillation in the harmonic trapping potential, in analogy with an increase in effective mass. For fluid velocities greater than a local speed of sound, we observe the onset of dissipative processes up to full removal of the superfluid component. A parallel simulation study visualizes the dynamics of the Bose-Einstein condensate and accounts for the main features of the observed behavior.  相似文献

We study atomic center of mass motion and field dynamics of a single-atom laser consisting of a single incoherently pumped free atom moving in an optical high-Q resonator. For sufficient pumping, the system starts lasing whenever the atom is close to a field antinode. If the field mode eigenfrequency is larger than the atomic transition frequency, the generated laser light attracts the atom to the field antinode and cools its motion. Using quantum Monte Carlo wave function simulations, we investigate this coupled atom-field dynamics including photon recoil and cavity decay. In the regime of strong coupling, the generated field shows strong nonclassical features such as photon antibunching, and the atom is spatially confined and cooled to sub-Doppler temperatures.  相似文献

We have investigated the dynamics of bright solitons in a spin–orbit coupled spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensate analytically and numerically. By using the hyperbolic sine function as the trial function to describe a plane wave bright soliton with a single finite momentum, we have derived the motion equations of soliton's spin and center of mass, and obtained its exact analytical solutions. Our results show that the spin–orbit coupling couples the soliton's spin with its center-of-mass motion, the spin oscillations induced by the exchange of atoms between components result in the periodical oscillation of center-of-mass, and the motion of center of mass of soliton can be viewed as a superposition of periodical and linear motions. Our analytical results have also been confirmed by the direct numerical simulations of Gross–Pitaevskii equations.  相似文献

We consider the problem of exciton-polariton-condensate formation in a semiconductor microcavity in the strong coupling regime. The condensate is confined in a one-dimensional periodic potential and coupled to an exciton reservoir that is formed by the external cw pumping. The condensate dynamics is studied in the center and in the edges of the Brillouin zone (BZ). Modeling the formation of the condensate from weak initial noise shows that besides steady states the macroscopic oscillations of polariton density can also occur. Within the framework of the mean field approach, we obtain important analytic relations for the condensate eigenstates using the developed simplified model for three coupled spatial harmonics. A numerical analysis verifies the correctness of the analytic results.  相似文献

We study quasiparticle dynamics in a Bose-Einstein condensate with a vortex by following the center of mass motion of a Bogoliubov wave packet, and find important Berry-phase effects due to the background flow. We show that the Berry phase invalidates the usual canonical relation between the mechanical momentum and position variables, leading to important modifications of quasiparticle statistics and thermodynamic properties of the condensates. Applying these results to a vortex in an infinite uniform superfluid, we find that the total transverse force acting on the vortex is proportional to the superfluid density. We propose an experimental setup to directly observe Berry phase effects through measuring local thermal atoms' momentum distribution around a vortex.  相似文献

We consider the dynamics of bright solitons in one dimensional Bose Einstein condensate with spin orbit coupling and trapped by an optical lattice potential. We mainly focus on the effects of the spin orbit coupling, Rabi coupling and detuning parameter on the soliton dynamics. The solution of the coupled Gross Pitaevskii equation is performed with the help of the variational and numerical methods for various parameters. The population imbalance and the center of mass motion show different dynamic behaviors depending on the parameters. We also obtain traveling bright solitons related with a given finite initial momentum.  相似文献

We investigate the quantum dynamics of ultracold Rydberg atoms being exposed to a magnetic quadrupole field. A Hamiltonian describing the coupled dynamics of the electronic and center of mass motion is derived. Employing an adiabatic approach, the potential energy surfaces for intra-n-manifold mixing are computed. By determining the quantum states of the center of mass motion, we demonstrate that trapped states can be achieved if the total angular momentum of the atom is sufficiently large. This holds even if the extension of the electronic Rydberg state becomes equal to or even exceeds that of the ultracold center of mass motion.  相似文献

We consider two separated pancake-shaped trapped gases interacting with a dipolar (either magnetic or electric) force. We study how the center of mass motion propagates from one cloud to the other as a consequence of the long-range nature of the interaction. The corresponding dynamics is fixed by the frequency difference between the in-phase and the out-of-phase center of mass modes of the two clouds, whose dependence on the dipolar interaction strength and the cloud separation is explicitly investigated. We discuss Fermi gases in the degenerate as well as in the classical limit and comment on the case of Bose-Einstein condensed gases.  相似文献

We have proposed a mechanical model that corresponds to the Newton equation for describing the dynamics of an oscillon, viz., a soliton-like cluster of the Bose–Einstein condensate (with atomic attraction) placed above an oscillating atomic mirror in a uniform gravitational field. The model describes the stochastic Fermi acceleration and periodic, quasi-periodic, and chaotic motion of the oscillon center, as well as hysteresis phenomena in the case of a slow variation of mirror oscillation frequency, which are in good agreement with the results obtained using the Gross–Pitaevskii equation.  相似文献

The dynamics of a dark soliton has been investigated in a Bose--Einstein condensate with an external magnetic trap, and the effects of localized impurity on the dynamics are discussed by the variational approach based on the renormalized integrals of motion. The reciprocal movement of the dark soliton is discussed by performing a standard linear analysis, and it is found that the effects of the localized impurity depend strictly on the positive or negative value of the impurity strength corresponding to the repulsive or attractive impurity. The numerical results confirm the theoretical analysis, and show that the effects also depend on the effective nonlinear coefficient and the harmonic frequency.  相似文献

We predict a dynamical classical superfluid-insulator transition in a Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in an optical and a magnetic potential. In the tight-binding limit, this system realizes an array of weakly coupled condensates driven by an external harmonic field. For small displacements of the parabolic trap about the equilibrium position, the condensates coherently oscillate in the array. For large displacements, the condensates remain localized on the side of the harmonic trap with a randomization of the relative phases. The superfluid-insulator transition is due to a discrete modulational instability, occurring when the condensate center of mass velocity is larger than a critical value.  相似文献

We study the dissipation of the center of mass oscillation of a harmonically confined condensate in the presence of a disorder potential. An extension of the harmonic potential theorem allows one to formulate the dynamics from the point of view of an oscillating disorder potential. This formulation leads to a rigorous result for the damping rate in the limit of weak disorder.  相似文献

We investigate the dynamics of a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate which is governed by an optically induced non-Abelian gauge potential. Using a ring shaped trap to confine the atoms and a hydrodynamic ansatz, nonlinear Josephson type equations are found to describe the system. The degenerate eigenstates which show rotation are solved exactly. We consider a homogenous filled ring and observe population dynamics between the two quasi-spin components but also space dependent Josephson oscillations. Stable mass currents can be observed which are induced by the constant non-Abelian effective magnetic field in the limit of weak interactions. For strong interactions the appearance of two-component dark soliton-like objects are observed.  相似文献

The dynamics of the fundamental soliton of Bose–Einstein atomic condensate is analytically and numerically examined and compared in two schemes: (i) a magnetic or an optical trap with oscillating walls and (ii) a single oscillating atomic mirror in a homogeneous gravitational field. It is demonstrated that the dependence of the degree of excitation of the soliton motion on the rate of scanning of the instantaneous oscillation frequency has a band structure.  相似文献

We consider dynamics of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate, where the components correspond to different hyperfine states of the same sort of atoms. External microwave radiation leads to resonant transitions between the states. The condensate is loaded into the optical lattice. We invoke the tight-binding approximation and examine the interplay of spatial and internal dynamics of the mixture. We show that internal dynamics qualitatively depends on the intra-component interaction strength and the phase configuration of the initial state. We focus attention on two intriguing phenomena occurring at certain values of the parameters. The first phenomenon is the spontaneous synchronization of Rabi oscillations running inside neighboring lattice sites. The other one is demixing of the condensate with formation of immiscible solitons at sufficiently strong nonlinearity. Demixing is preceded by the transient regime with highly irregular behavior of the mixture.  相似文献

We study on bright nonautonomous solitons of Bose-Einstein condensate analytically in a time-dependent harmonic trap with an arbitrary time-dependent linear potential and complex potential. The explicit ways to control dynamics of soliton are presented through observing the evolution of its width, peak, and the motion of its center analytically. Furthermore, we present two-solitons solution in generalized form to observe the collision of solitons conveniently.  相似文献

A Bose–Einstein condensate is dispersively coupled to a single mode of an ultra-high finesse optical cavity. The system is governed by strong interactions between the atomic motion and the light field even at the level of single quanta. While coherently pumping the cavity mode the condensate is subject to the cavity optical lattice potential whose depth depends nonlinearly on the atomic density distribution. We observe optical bistability already below the single photon level and strong back-action dynamics which tunes the coupled system periodically out of resonance.  相似文献

The dynamics of dark soliton in a growing Bose-Einstein condensate with an external magnetic trap are investigated by the variational approach based on the renormalized integrals of motion. The stationary states as physical solutions to the describing equation are obtained, and the evolution of the dark soliton is numerically simulated. The numerical results confirm the theoretical analysis and show that the dynamics depend strictly on the initial condition, the gain coefficient and the external potential.  相似文献

We investigate the spatial motion of the trapped atom with the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) configuration where the two Rabi transitions are coupled to two classical light fields respectively with the same detuning. When the internal degrees of freedom can be decoupled adiabatically from the spatial motion of the center of mass via the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, it is demonstrated that the lights of certain profile can provide the atom with an effective field of magnetic monopole, which is the so-called induced gauge field relevant to the Berry's phase. Such an artificial magnetic monopole structure manifests itself in the characterizing energy spectrum.  相似文献
