A generalization of the phenomenological S-matrix model taking into account isolated Regge poles is proposed for simultaneously describing refractive effects in the cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering of light nuclei. The cross sections for elastic α + 24Mg scattering are analyzed at energies of 50, 54, 65.7, 81, and 119 MeV. The analysis of the cross sections for elastic scattering is supplemented with an analysis of the inelastic scattering of alpha particles that is accompanied by the excitation of the first excited state (2+) of 24Mg nuclei. It is shown that the proposed model makes it possible to describe satisfactorily all of the aforementioned cases of elastic and inelastic scattering, correctly reproducing the refraction Airy structures and anomalous large-angle scattering that are observed at large scattering angles.  相似文献

Measurements of differential elastic and inelastic cross sections for neutron scattering from 16O at incident energies 18 to 26 MeV are presented. In addition to cross sections for neutron scattering differential cross sections for proton scattering up to 66 MeV are described in terms of phenomenological optical model potentials. At 24.5 MeV incident energy inelastic scattering up to 11.5 MeV excitation was measured. The elastic and inelastic compound nucleus contributions were examined. Direct inelastic scattering from the normal parity states was calculated using the DWBA and coupled-channel formalisms. The inelastic scattering cross section from non-normal parity state 2 was calculated using the coupled-channel formalism via multi-step processes. Cross sections due to inelastic scattering from some of the states, which are thought to be members of an excited state rotational band were calculated using both vibrational and rotational approaches and were compared.  相似文献

An optical potential component is constructed to represent the effect of a strongly coupled inelastic excitation upon elastic scattering. In the particular case of quadrupole Coulomb excitation a long range imaginary potential component is derived in closed form. The effects of long range absorption upon the elastic scattering are considered in a general way by inserting this potential into a weak absorption model and deriving an elastic scattering cross section in closed form. Below the Coulomb barrier the formula takes a simple form which may be related to the semiclassical theory of Coulomb excitation. The potential component arising from nuclear excitation of an inelastic state may be evaluated numerically on a computer. Two examples computed (50 MeV α-scattering on 154Sm and 60 MeV 16O scattering on 40Ca) exhibit strong l-dependence in the potential component.  相似文献

Since pion-nucleus elastic scattering data can only constrain the asymptotic behavior of the scattered wave, it remains for inelastic scattering and reaction data to test the wave function in the nuclear interior. To this end, distorted-wave impulse approximation calculations have been performed for a variety of low-energy pion reactions using phase-shift-equivalent pion-nucleus potentials: inelastic excitation, photoproduction, and the (π, p) reaction. Sensitivity of the reaction cross sections to variations in the equivalent potentials is examined, with an eye toward understanding what can be learned about pion-nucleus dynamics from a given set of reaction data.  相似文献

Differential cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 14.1 MeV neutrons from 209Bi have been measured with a time-of-flight system which had an energy resolution of 650 keV. For elastic scattering from 209Bi, an optical-model analysis gave the best-fit potential parameters. The absolute cross sections for excitation of collective (2.66 and 4.36 MeV) states are reproduced by the results of distorted-wave calculations under the assumption of a core (208Pb) excitation model using deformation parameters obtained from (p, p') reactions.  相似文献

In this paper ,the differential cross sections of the elastic and inelastic scattering of alpha-particle of energy 1.37GeV on the 2+ and 3 excited states of 12C and Ca isotopes are calculated by the method of the inelastic two-composite-particle system scattering theory at high energy.The results are in agreement with experimental data.The importance of the virtual excitation in calculating the differential cross section of the elastic is descussed.  相似文献

Cross sections for scattering of N2 (j=0) molecules on He atoms have been calculated for relative energies below 5 · 10?3 eV (58 °K). The time independent scattering formalism ofArthurs andDalgarno was used together with an assumed Lennard-Jones type potential with anisotropicP 2(cos?) terms in the attractive and repulsive parts. The resulting system of coupled differential equations was solved in the distorted wave and close coupling approximations for the differential and integral cross sections for elastic and inelastic (j=0→j=2) scattering. In the integral inelastic cross section several sharp resonances were found to contribute 40% to the cross section at energies below 40 °K. The resonance peaks are attributed to orbiting or short-lived compound states since they are also observed in the elastic cross section at energies which are lower by the excitation energy of 1.5 · 10?3 eV. Finally, the effect of varying the potential parameters on the integral inelastic cross section was studied at 50 °K and a rough formula for the cross section as a function of the parameters is obtained. The formula shows that a certain ratio of repulsive and attractive anisotropies leads to a small inelastic cross section indicating a mutual cancellation.  相似文献

We have theoretically investigated the scattering of excitons by excitons in a two-dimensional semiconducting quantum well system. The scattering cross sections have been calculated using the Born approximation for both the elastic and inelastic scattering of the excitons by excitons. The threshold for inelastic scattering is increased over the value in a bulk semiconductor because of the enhancement of the exciton binding energy by its confinement. The behavior of the scattering cross section as a function of the energy of relative motion of the excitons is different than in the bulk and the cross section is a more sensitive function of the ratio of the electron and hole masses than in the bulk.  相似文献

A phenomenological optical potential is generalized to include the Coulomb and nuclear interactions caused by the dynamical deformation of its surface. In the high-energy approach, analytical expressions for elastic and inelastic scattering amplitudes are obtained, where all the orders in the deformation parameters are included. The multistep effect of the 2+ rotational state excitation on elastic scattering is analyzed. Calculations of inelastic cross sections for the 17O ions scattered on different nuclei at about tens of MeV/nucleon or higher are compared with experimental data, and the important role of the Coulomb excitation is established. Differential cross sections for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 14.8 MeV neutrons from Bi, Sr and Na have been measured with four neutron detectors participating in a time-of-flight system which had an energy resolution of 900 keV for the incident neutrons. The whole procedure was checked by scattering from carbon. For the elastic scattering of Bi, Sr and Na satisfactory optical-model fits were obtained. The absolute cross sections for excitation of collective states are compared to the distorted-wave theory for direct reactions, and a reasonable agreement has been found. The nuclear deformation parameters are extracted and compared to the values from other experiments.  相似文献

The elastic and inelastic scattering of α-partieles by 24Mg is investigated at bombarding energies between 15.4 and 19.1 MeV. Particular attention is given to the analysis of the inelastic scattering to the 3+ unnatural-parity state at 5.22 MeV. Both energy-averaged angular distributions and fine-energy-resolution excitation functions are used in the analysis. It is found that the inelastic scattering to the (3+, 5.22 MeV) state may be interpreted as pure compound nucleus scattering. This fact is used to investigate whether the incoherent addition of a compound nucleus cross section and a direct cross section, as has been done in recent analyses, is a realistic way to describe energy-averaged scattering data which contain both direct and compound contributions.  相似文献

The (semi)microscopic double-folding nucleus-nucleus optical potentials are suggested for consideration of inelastic scattering with excitation of collective nuclear states by using the adiabatic approach and the elastic scattering amplitude in the high-energy approximation. The analytical expression for inelastic scattering amplitude is obtained keeping the first-order terms in the deformation parameter of a potential. Calculations of inelastic cross sections for the 17O heavy ions scattered on different nuclei at about hundred MeV/nucleon are made, and the acceptable qualitative agreement with the experimental data is obtained without introducing free parameters. The close-coupling method is utilized to calculate partial cross sections for elastic and inelastic scattering of He atoms with HX (X=F, Cl, Br) molecule based on the CCSD (T) potential energy surfaces obtained in the previous research. The calculation is performed at the incident energy of 200 me V. The rationality of our results has been confirmed by comparison with the available theoretical results. The tendency of the elastic and inelastic rotational excitation partial wave cross sections varying with the reduced mass of the three systems is obtained.  相似文献

Elastic and inelastic positron--helium scatterings have been investigated with the coupled-channel optical method (CCO). Ionization continuum and positronium formation channels are included via a complex equivalent-local optical potential. Calculations are reported of cross sections of elastic scattering, total excitation and n=2, 3, and 4 excitations of ground-state helium for incident energies from 30~eV to 400~eV. The present calculation shows that the ionization and Ps-formation channels significantly affect the cross sections of elastic and inelastic positron--helium scatterings.  相似文献

The ratio of the cross section for inelastic scattering to the total cross section for scattering of a fast electron by a cluster, depending on the number of atoms in the cluster, is shown to be not a monotonic function. This nonmonotonicity is not related to the well-known nonmonotonic dependences determined, for example, by the magic numbers in the shell model of clusters but is of purely quantum origin: the coherence of elastic electron scattering and the incoherence of inelastic one by a multipartice target.  相似文献

We present a simple direct method for calculating Regge trajectories for a multichannel scattering problem. The approach is applied to the case of two coupled Thomas-Fermi type potentials, used as a crude model for electron-atom scattering below the second excitation threshold. It is shown that non-adiabatic interaction may cause formation of loops in Regge trajectories. The accuracy of the method is tested by evaluating resonance contributions to elastic and inelastic integral cross sections.  相似文献

The elastic and the inelastic scattering of fast neutrons from Au, Hg, and Tl was studied at incident neutron energy intervals of ~50 keV from 0.3 to 1.5 MeV. The differential elastic scattering cross sections were determined approximately every fifteen degrees from 20 to 145 degrees. The cross sections for the inelastic excitation of states in Au at 77, 270, 409, 520, 540, 740, 830, 940, 1120, and 1220 keV; in Hg at 160, 208, 440, 610, 980, and 1120 keV; and in Tl at 205, 279, 615, 680, 930, and 1080 keV were determined. The measured elastic scattering cross sections were compared with the results of optical model calculations and evidence for a decrease in the imaginary part of the potential near the doubly closed shell atA=208 was observed. The results of Hauser-Feshbach calculations, utilizing known spin and parity assignments together with those estimated from nuclear systematics, were in qualitative agreement with the measured inelastic excitation functions. The effect of resonance width fluctuations was considered in the context of the experimental results.  相似文献

A simple procedure is developed to simultaneously eliminate multiple scattering contributions from two reflection electron energy-loss spectra (REELS) measured at different energies or for different experimental geometrical configurations. The procedure provides the differential inverse inelastic mean free path (DIIMFP) and the differential surface excitation probability (DSEP). The only required input parameters are the differential cross section for elastic scattering and a reasonable estimate for the inelastic mean free path (IMFP). No prior information on surface excitations is required for the deconvolution. The retrieved DIIMFP and DSEP can be used to determine the dielectric function of a solid by fitting the DSEP and DIIMFP to theory. Eventually, the optical data can be used to calculate the (differential and total) inelastic mean free path and the surface excitation probability. The procedure is applied to Fe, Co and Ni and the retrieved optical data as well as the inelastic mean free paths and surface excitation parameters derived from it are compared to values reported earlier in the literature. In all cases, reasonable agreement is found between the present data and the earlier results, supporting the validity of the procedure.  相似文献
