The completeness of solutions of homogeneous as well as non-homogeneous unsteady Stokes equations are examined. A necessary and sufficient condition for a divergence-free vector to represent the velocity field of a possible unsteady Stokes flow in the absence of body forces is derived.  相似文献

A theory of the scattering of electromagnetic waves by homogeneous spheres, the so-called Mie theory, is presented in a unique and coherent manner in this paper. We begin with Maxwell's equations, from which the vector wave equations are derived and solved by means of the two orthogonal solutions to the scalar wave equation. The transverse incident electric field is mapped in spherical coordinates and expanded in known mathematical functions satisfying the scalar wave equation. Determination of the unknown coefficients in the scattered and internal fields is achieved by matching the electromagnetic boundary conditions on the surface of a sphere. Far-field solutions for the electric field are then given in terms of the scattering functions. Transformation of the electric field to the reference plane containing incident and scattered waves is carried out. Extinction parameters and the phase matrix are derived from the electric field perpendicular and parallel to the reference plane. On the basis of the independent-scattering assumption, the theory is extended to cases involving a sample of homogeneous spheres.  相似文献

Control problems are considered for a two-dimensional electromagnetic field model describing electromagnetic wave scattering in a unbounded homogeneous medium containing an anisotropic permeable inclusion with a partially covered (cloaked) boundary. The control is a function involved in the impedance boundary condition on the covered part of the boundary. The solvability of the original mixed transmission problem for the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation and of the control problems is proved. Optimality systems describing necessary extremum conditions are derived. The uniqueness and stability of optimal solutions with respect to certain perturbations of the cost functional and the incident wave are established.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the Riemann problem for gas dynamic equations governing a one dimensional flow of van der Waals gases. The existence and uniqueness of shocks, contact discontinuities, simple wave solutions are discussed using R-H conditions and Lax conditions. The explicit form of solutions for shocks, contact discontinuities and simple waves are derived. The effects of van der Waals parameter on the shock and simple waves are studied. A condition is derived on the initial data for the existence of a solution to the Riemann problem. Moreover, a necessary and sufficient condition is derived on the initial data which gives the information about the existence of a shock wave or a simple wave for a 1-family and a 3-family of characteristics in the solution of the Riemann problem.  相似文献

Hypersonic rarefied gas flow over blunt bodies in the transitional flow regime (from continuum to free-molecule) is investigated. Asymptotically correct boundary conditions on the body surface are derived for the full and thin viscous shock layer models. The effect of taking into account the slip velocity and the temperature jump in the boundary condition along the surface on the extension of the limits of applicability of continuum models to high free-stream Knudsen numbers is investigated. Analytic relations are obtained, by an asymptotic method, for the heat transfer coefficient, the skin friction coefficient and the pressure as functions of the free-stream parameters and the geometry of the body in the flow field at low Reynolds number; the values of these coefficients approach their values in free-molecule flow (for unit accommodation coefficient) as the Reynolds number approaches zero. Numerical solutions of the thin viscous shock layer and full viscous shock layer equations, both with the no-slip boundary conditions and with boundary conditions taking into account the effects slip on the surface are obtained by the implicit finite-difference marching method of high accuracy of approximation. The asymptotic and numerical solutions are compared with the results of calculations by the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method for flow over bodies of different shape and for the free-stream conditions corresponding to altitudes of 75–150 km of the trajectory of the Space Shuttle, and also with the known solutions for the free-molecule flow regine. The areas of applicability of the thin and full viscous shock layer models for calculating the pressure, skin friction and heat transfer on blunt bodies, in the hypersonic gas flow are estimated for various free-stream Knudsen numbers.  相似文献

The first fundamental boundary-value problem of elasticity theory is considered for a rectangular semi-infinite strip whose long sides are free of stress. Separation of variables is used to reduce the solution to a series expansion of two functions defined in a closed interval (the “end” of the half-strip), in terms of homogeneous solutions. The system of homogeneous solutions over an interval of the real axis is proved to be complete in L2. Systems of functions biorthogonal to the systems of homogeneous solutions are constructed on a certain contour on the Riemann surface of the logarithm. This biorthogonality concept is a natural generalization of biorthogonality over a closed interval. The biorthogonal systems constructed are used to find explicit expressions for the expansion coefficients.  相似文献

We consider a relatively simple model for pool boiling processes. This model involves only the temperature distribution within the heater and describes the heat exchange with the boiling fluid via a nonlinear boundary condition imposed on the fluid–heater interface. This results in a standard heat equation with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition on part of the boundary. In this paper, we analyse the qualitative structure of steady-state solutions of this heat equation. It turns out that the model allows both multiple homogeneous and multiple heterogeneous solutions in certain regimes of the parameter space. The latter solutions originate from bifurcations on a certain branch of homogeneous solutions. We present a bifurcation analysis that reveals the multiple-solution structure in this mathematical model. In the numerical analysis a continuation algorithm is combined with the method of separation-of-variables and a Fourier collocation technique. For both the continuous and discrete problem a fundamental symmetry property is derived that implies multiplicity of heterogeneous solutions. Numerical simulations of this model problem predict phenomena that are consistent with laboratory observations for pool boiling processes.  相似文献

A new approximation of the logarithmic derivative of the Hankel function is derived and applied to high-frequency wave scattering. We re-derive the on surface radiation condition (OSRC) approximations that are well suited for a Dirichlet boundary in acoustics. These correspond to the Engquist–Majda absorbing boundary conditions. Inverse OSRC approximations are derived and they are used for Neumann boundary conditions. We obtain an implicit OSRC condition, where we need to solve a tridiagonal system. The OSRC approximations are well suited for moderate wave numbers. The approximation of the logarithmic derivative is also used for deriving a generalized physical optics approximation, both for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. We have obtained similar approximations in electromagnetics, for a perfect electric conductor. Numerical computations are done for different objects in 2D and 3D and for different wave numbers. The improvement over the standard physical optics is verified.  相似文献

A reaction-diffusion system known as the Sel'kov model subject to the homogeneous Neumann boundary condition is investigated, where detailed Hopf bifurcation analysis is performed. We not only show the existence of the spatially homogeneous/non-homogeneous periodic solutions of the system, but also derive conditions for determining the bifurcation direction and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solution.  相似文献

In this note we are interested in the properties of, and methods for locating the set of all nondominated solutions of multiple linear criteria defined over a polyhedron. We first show that the set of all dominated solutions is convex and that the set of all nondominated solutions is a subset of the convex hull of the nondominated extreme points. When the domination cone is polyhedral, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a point to be nondominated. The condition is stronger than that of Ref. [1] and enables us to give a simple proof that the set of all nondominated extreme points indeed is connected. In order to locate the entire set of all nondominated extreme points, we derive a generalized version of simplex method—multicriteria simplex method. In addition to some useful results, a necessary and sufficient condition for an extreme point to be nondominated is derived. Examples and computer experience are also given. Finally, we focus on how to generate the entire set of all nondominated solutions through the set of all nondominated extreme points. A decomposition theorem and some necessary and sufficient conditions for a face to be nondominated are derived. We then describe a systematic way to identify the entire set of all nondominated solutions. Through examples, we show that in fact our procedure is quite efficient.  相似文献

This paper deals with the behavior of solutions to the reaction–diffusion system under homogeneous Neumann boundary condition, which describes a prey–predator model with nonlocal delay. Sufficient conditions for the global stability of each equilibrium are derived by the Lyapunov functional and the results show that the introduction of stage-structure into predator positively affects the coexistence of prey and predator. Numerical simulations are performed to illustrate the results.  相似文献

The scattering of electromagnetic waves by a homogeneous sphere near a plane boundary is presented in this paper. The vector wave equations derived from Maxwell’s equations are solved by means of the two orthogonal solutions to the scalar wave equation. Hankel transformation and Erdélyi’s formula are used to satisfy the planar boundary conditions and the determination of the unknown coefficients in the scattered field and internal fields is achieved by matching the electromagnetic boundary conditions on the surface of the sphere. Quadratic functionals defined on the space of functions differentiable on a geometric graph are considered. Analogs of the Lagrange and Dubois–Raymond lemmas are proved. Necessary extremum conditions for these quadratic functionals are obtained. A boundary value problem with conditions posed locally at the vertices of a geometric graph is shown to be selfadjoint if and only if it is generated by a quadratic functional. A subclass of quadratic energy functionals is singled out. The space of solutions of the homogeneous boundary value problem generated by a quadratic energy functional is described, and nondegeneracy criteria for such boundary value problems are derived.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the analysis of nonnegative solutions for a degenerate parabolic–elliptic Patlak–Keller–Segel system with critical nonlinear diffusion in a bounded domain with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. Our aim is to prove the existence of a global weak solution under a smallness condition on the mass of the initial data, thereby completing previous results on finite blow-up for large masses. Under some higher regularity condition on solutions, the uniqueness of solutions is proved by using a classical duality technique.  相似文献

We consider an evolution which starts as a flow of smooth surfaces in nonparametric form propagating in space with normal speed equal to the mean curvature of the current surface. The boundaries of the surfaces are assumed to remain fixed. G. Huisken has shown that if the boundary of the domain over which this flow is considered satisfies the “mean curvature” condition of H. Jenkins and J. Serrin (that is, the boundary of the domain is convex “in the mean”) then the corresponding initial boundary value problem with Dirichlet boundary data and smooth initial data admits a smooth solution for all time. In this paper we consider the case of arbitrary domains with smooth boundaries not necessarily satisfying the condition of Jenkins-Serrin. In this case, even if the flow starts with smooth initial data and homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data, singularities may develop in finite time at the boundary of the domain and the solution will not satisfy the boundary condition. We prove, however, existence of solutions that are smooth inside the domain for all time and become smooth up to the boundary after elapsing of a sufficiently long period of time. From that moment on such solutions assume the boundary values in the classical sense. We also give sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of classical solutions for all time t ≧ 0. In addition, we establish estimates of the rate at which solutions tend to zero as t → ∞.  相似文献

We consider a boundary value problem in a model domain periodically perforated along the boundary. We assume that the homogeneous Neumann condition is posed on the external boundary and the homogeneous Dirichlet condition is posed on the boundary of the cavities. A limit (homogenized) problem is obtained.
