The hydrogen‐evolving photocatalyst [(tbbpy)2Ru(tpphz)Pd(Cl)2]2+ (tbbpy=4,4′‐di‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine, tpphz=tetrapyrido[3,2‐a:2′,3′‐c:3′′,2′′‐h:2′′′,3′′′‐j]phenazine) shows excitation‐wavelength‐dependent catalytic activity, which has been correlated to the localization of the initial excitation within the coordination sphere. In this contribution the excitation‐wavelength dependence of the early excited‐state relaxation and the occurrence of vibrational coherences are investigated by sub‐20 fs transient absorption spectroscopy and DFT/TDDFT calculations. The comparison with the mononuclear precursor [(tbbpy)2Ru(tpphz)]2+ highlights the influence of the catalytic center on these ultrafast processes. Only in the presence of the second metal center, does the excitation of a 1MLCT state localized on the central part of the tpphz bridge lead to coherent wave‐packet motion in the excited state.  相似文献

A platinum complex with the 6‐(7‐benzothiazol‐2′‐yl‐9,9‐diethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐2,2′‐bipyridinyl ligand ( 1 ) was synthesized and the crystal structure was determined. UV/Vis absorption, emission, and transient difference absorption of 1 were systematically investigated. DFT calculations were carried out on 1 to characterize the electronic ground state and aid in the understanding of the nature of low‐lying excited electronic states. Complex 1 exhibits intense structured 1π–π* absorption at λabs<440 nm, and a broad, moderate 1M LCT/1LLCT transition at 440–520 nm in CH2Cl2 solution. A structured 3ππ*/3M LCT emission at about 590 nm was observed at room temperature and at 77 K. Complex 1 exhibits both singlet and triplet excited‐state absorption from 450 nm to 750 nm, which are tentatively attributed to the 1π–π* and 3π–π* excited states of the 6‐(7‐benzothiazol‐2′‐yl‐9,9‐diethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine ligand, respectively. Z‐scan experiments were conducted by using ns and ps pulses at 532 nm, and ps pulses at a variety of visible and near‐IR wavelengths. The experimental data were fitted by a five‐level model by using the excited‐state parameters obtained from the photophysical study to deduce the effective singlet and triplet excited‐state absorption cross sections in the visible spectral region and the effective two‐photon absorption cross sections in the near‐IR region. Our results demonstrate that 1 possesses large ratios of excited‐state absorption cross sections relative to that of the ground‐state in the visible spectral region; this results in a remarkable degree of reverse saturable absorption from 1 in CH2Cl2 solution illuminated by ns laser pulses at 532 nm. The two‐photon absorption cross sections in the near‐IR region for 1 are among the largest values reported for platinum complexes. Therefore, 1 is an excellent, broadband, nonlinear absorbing material that exhibits strong reverse saturable absorption in the visible spectral region and large two‐photon‐assisted excited‐state absorption in the near‐IR region.  相似文献

Transient absorption spectroscopy is used to study the excited‐state dynamics of Co3(dpa)4(NCS)2, where dpa is the ligand di(2‐pyridyl)amido. The ππ*, charge‐transfer, and d–d transition states are excited upon irradiation at wavelengths of 330, 400 and 600 nm, respectively. Similar transient spectra are observed under the experimental temporal resolution and the transient species show weak absorption. We thus propose that a low‐lying metal‐centered d–d state is accessed immediately after excitation. Analyses of the experimental kinetic traces reveal rapid conversion from the ligand‐centered ππ* and the charge‐transfer states to this metal‐centered d‐d state within 100 fs. The excited molecule then crosses to a second d–d state within the ligand‐field manifold, with a time coefficient of 0.6–1.4 ps. Because the ground‐state bleaching band recovers with a time coefficient of 10–23 ps, we propose that an excited molecule crosses from the low‐lying d–d state either directly within the same spin system or with spin crossing via the state 2B to the ground state 2A2 (symmetry group C4). In this trimetal string complex, relaxation to the ground electronic surface after excitation is thus rapid.  相似文献

To develop highly efficient molecular photocatalysts for visible light‐driven hydrogen production, a thorough understanding of the photophysical and chemical processes in the photocatalyst is of vital importance. In this context, in situ X‐ray absorption spectroscopic (XAS) investigations show that the nature of the catalytically active metal center in a (N^N)MCl2 (M=Pd or Pt) coordination sphere has a significant impact on the mechanism of the hydrogen formation. Pd as the catalytic center showed a substantially altered chemical environment and a formation of metal colloids during catalysis, whereas no changes of the coordination sphere were observed for Pt as catalytic center. The high stability of the Pt center was confirmed by chloride addition and mercury poisoning experiments. Thus, for Pt a fundamentally different catalytic mechanism without the involvement of colloids is confirmed.  相似文献

A theoretical investigation on the luminescence efficiency of a series of d8 transition‐metal Schiff base complexes was undertaken. The aim was to understand the different photophysics of [M‐salen]n complexes (salen=N,N′‐bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine; M=Pt, Pd (n=0); Au (n=+1)) in acetonitrile solutions at room temperature: [Pt‐salen] is phosphorescent and [Au‐salen]+ is fluorescent, but [Pd‐salen] is nonemissive. Based on the calculation results, it was proposed that incorporation of electron‐withdrawing groups at the 4‐position of the Schiff base ligand should widen the 3MLCT–3MC gap (MLCT=metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer and MC=metal centered, that is, the dd excited state); thus permitting phosphorescence of the corresponding PdII Schiff base complex. Although it is experimentally proven that [Pd‐salph‐4E] (salph=N,N′‐bis(salicylidene)‐1,2‐phenylenediamine; 4E means an electron‐withdrawing substituent at the 4‐position of the salicylidene) displays triplet emission, its quantum yield is low at room temperature. The corresponding PtII Schiff base complex, [Pt‐salph‐4E], is also much less emissive than the unsubstituted analogue, [Pt‐salph]. Thus, a detailed theoretical analysis of how the substituent and central metal affected the photophysics of [M‐salph‐X] (X is a substituent on the salph ligand, M=Pt or Pd) was performed. Temperature effects were also investigated. The simple energy gap law underestimated the nonradiative decay rates and was insufficient to account for the temperature dependence of the nonradiative decay rates of the complexes studied herein. On the other hand, the present analysis demonstrates that inclusions of low‐frequency modes and the associated frequency shifts are decisive in providing better quantitative estimates of the nonradiative decay rates and the experimentally observed temperature effects. Moreover, spin–orbit coupling, which is often considered only in the context of radiative decay rate, has a significant role in determining the nonradiative rate as well.  相似文献

Photoinduced electron‐transfer processes within a precatalyst for intramolecular hydrogen evolution [(tbbpy)2Ru(tpphz)PdCl2]2+ ( RuPd ; tbbpy=4,4′‐di‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine, tpphz=tetrapyrido[3,2‐a:2′,3′c:3′′,2′′,‐h:2′′′,3′′′‐j]phenazine) have been studied by resonance Raman and ultrafast time‐resolved absorption spectroscopy. By comparing the photophysics of the [(tbbpy)2Ru(tpphz)]2+ subunit Ru with that of the supramolecular catalyst RuPd , the individual electron‐transfer steps are assigned to kinetic components, and their dependence on solvent is discussed. The resonance Raman data reveal that the initial excitation of the molecular ensemble is spread over the terminal tbbpy and the tpphz ligands. The subsequent excited‐state relaxation of both Ru and RuPd on the picosecond timescale involves formation of the phenazine‐centered intraligand charge‐transfer state, which in RuPd precedes formation of the Pd‐reduced state. The photoreaction in the heterodinuclear supramolecular complex is completed on a subnanosecond timescale. Taken together, the data indicate that mechanistic investigations must focus on potential rate‐determining steps other than electron transfer between the photoactive center and the Pd unit. Furthermore, structural variations should be directed towards increasing the directionality of electron transfer and the stability of the charge‐separated states.  相似文献

Iron N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes have received a great deal of attention recently because of their growing potential as light sensitizers or photocatalysts. We present a sub‐ps X‐ray spectroscopy study of an FeIINHC complex that identifies and quantifies the states involved in the deactivation cascade after light absorption. Excited molecules relax back to the ground state along two pathways: After population of a hot 3MLCT state, from the initially excited 1MLCT state, 30 % of the molecules undergo ultrafast (150 fs) relaxation to the 3MC state, in competition with vibrational relaxation and cooling to the relaxed 3MLCT state. The relaxed 3MLCT state then decays much more slowly (7.6 ps) to the 3MC state. The 3MC state is rapidly (2.2 ps) deactivated to the ground state. The 5MC state is not involved in the deactivation pathway. The ultrafast partial deactivation of the 3MLCT state constitutes a loss channel from the point of view of photochemical efficiency and highlights the necessity to screen transition‐metal complexes for similar ultrafast decays to optimize photochemical performance.  相似文献

A molecular photocatalyst consisting of a RuII photocenter, a tetrapyridophenazine bridging ligand, and a PtX2 (X=Cl or I) moiety as the catalytic center functions as a stable system for light‐driven hydrogen production. The catalytic activity of this photochemical molecular device (PMD) is significantly enhanced by exchanging the terminal chlorides at the Pt center for iodide ligands. Ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy shows that the intramolecular photophysics are not affected by this change. Additionally, the general catalytic behavior, that is, instant hydrogen formation, a constant turnover frequency, and stability are maintained. Unlike as observed for the Pd analogue, the presence of excess halide does not affect the hydrogen generation capacity of the PMD. The highly improved catalytic efficiency is explained by an increased electron density at the Pt catalytic center, this is confirmed by DFT studies.  相似文献

A first principle investigation has been carried out for intermediate states of the catalytic cycle of a cytochrome P450. To elucidate the whole catalytic cycle of P450, the electronic and geometrical structures are investigated not only at each ground state but also at low‐lying energy levels. Using the natural orbital analysis, the nature of chemical bonds and magnetic interactions are investigated. The ground state of the Compound 1 ( cpd1 ) is calculated to be a doublet state, which is generated by the antiferromagnetic coupling between a triplet Fe(IV)?O moiety and a doublet ligand radical. We found that an excited doublet state of the cpd1 is composed of a singlet Fe(IV)?O and a doublet ligand radical. This excited state lies 20.8 kcal mol?1 above the ground spin state, which is a non‐negligible energy level as compared with the activation energy barrier of ΔE# = 26.6 kcal mol?1. The reaction path of the ground state of cpd1 is investigated on the basis of the model reaction: 3O(3p) + CH4. The computational results suggest that the reactions of P450 at the ground and excited states proceed through abstraction (3O‐model) and insertion (1O‐model) mechanisms, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The capability of donor‐substituted alkynes to link different metal ions in a side‐on carbon donor‐chelate coordination mode is extended from the donor centers S and P to the second period element N. The complex [Tp′W(CO)22‐C2(S)(NHBn)}] (Tp′=hydrido‐tris(3,5‐dimethylpyrazolyl)borate, Bn=benzyl) bearing a terminal sulfur atom and a secondary amine substituent is accessible by a metal‐template synthesis. Subsequent deprotonation allowed the formation of remarkably stable heterobimetallic complexes with the [(η5‐C5H5)Ru(PPh3)] and the [Ir(ppy)2] moiety. Electrochemical and spectroscopic investigations (cyclic voltammetry, IR, UV/Vis, luminescence, EPR), as well as DFT calculations, and X‐ray structure determinations of the W–Ru complex in two oxidation states reveal a strong metal–metal coupling but also a limited delocalization of excited states.  相似文献

A heteroleptic bis(tributylphosphine) platinum(II)‐alkynyl complex ( Pt‐1 ) showing broadband visible‐light absorption was prepared. Two different visible‐light‐absorbing ligands, that is, ethynylated boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) and a functionalized naphthalene diimide (NDI) were used in the molecule. Two reference complexes, Pt‐2 and Pt‐3 , which contain only the NDI or BODIPY ligand, respectively, were also prepared. The coordinated BODIPY ligand shows absorption at 503 nm and fluorescence at 516 nm, whereas the coordinated NDI ligand absorbs at 594 nm; the spectral overlap between the two ligands ensures intramolecular resonance energy transfer in Pt‐1 , with BODIPY as the singlet energy donor and NDI as the energy acceptor. The complex shows strong absorption in the region 450 nm–640 nm, with molar absorption coefficient up to 88 000 M ?1 cm?1. Long‐lived triplet excited states lifetimes were observed for Pt‐1 – Pt‐3 (36.9 μs, 28.3 μs, and 818.6 μs, respectively). Singlet and triplet energy transfer processes were studied by the fluorescence/phosphorescence excitation spectra, steady‐state and time‐resolved UV/Vis absorption and luminescence spectra, as well as nanosecond time‐resolved transient difference absorption spectra. A triplet‐state equilibrium was observed for Pt‐1 . The complexes were used as triplet photosensitizers for triplet–triplet annihilation upconversion, with upconversion quantum yields up to 18.4 % being observed for Pt‐1 .  相似文献

Light‐induced excited spin‐state trapping (LIESST) in iron(II) spin‐crossover compounds, that is, the light‐induced population of the high‐spin (S=2) state below the thermal transition temperature, was discovered thirty years ago. For irradiation into metal–ligand charge transfer (MLCT) bands of the low‐spin (S=0) species the acknowledged sequence takes the system from the initially excited 1MLCT to the high‐spin state via the 3MLCT state within ca. 150 fs, thereby bypassing low‐lying ligand‐field (LF) states. Nevertheless, these play a role, as borne out by the observation of LIESST and reverse‐LIESST on irradiation directly into the LF bands for systems with only high‐energy MLCT states. Herein we elucidate the ultrafast reverse‐LIESST pathway by identifying the lowest energy S=1 LF state as an intermediate state with a lifetime of 39 ps for the light‐induced high‐spin to low‐spin conversion on irradiation into the spin‐allowed LF transition of the high‐spin species in the NIR.  相似文献

The groundbreaking use of polyelectrolytes to increase the efficiency of supramolecular photocatalysts in solar H2 production schemes under aqueous aerobic conditions is reported. Supramolecular photocatalysts of the architecture [{(TL)2Ru(BL)}2RhX2]5+ (BL=bridging ligand, TL=terminal ligand, X=halide) demonstrate high efficiencies in deoxygenated organic solvents but do not function in air‐saturated aqueous solution because of the quenching of the metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (MLCT) excited state under these conditions. The new photocatalytic system incorporates poly(4‐styrenesulfonate) (PSS) into aqueous solutions containing [{(bpy)2Ru(dpp)}2RhCl2]5+ (bpy=2,2′‐bipyridine, dpp=2,3‐bis(2‐pyridyl)pyrazine). PSS has a profound impact on the photocatalyst efficiency, increasing H2 production over three times that of deoxygenated aqueous solutions alone. H2 photocatalysis proceeds even under aerobic conditions for PSS‐containing solutions, an exciting consequence for solar hydrogen‐production research.  相似文献

The photoluminescence spectra of a series of 5‐substituted pyridyl‐1,2,3‐triazolato PtII homoleptic complexes show weak emission tunability (ranging from λ=397–408 nm) in dilute (10?6 M ) ethanolic solutions at the monomer level and strong tunability in concentrated solutions (10?4 M ) and thin films (ranging from λ=487–625 nm) from dimeric excited states (excimers). The results of density functional calculations (PBE0) attribute this “turn‐on” sensitivity and intensity in the excimer to strong Pt–Pt metallophilic interactions and a change in the excited‐state character from singlet metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (1MLCT) to singlet metal‐metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (1MMLCT) emissions in agreement with lifetime measurements.  相似文献

Reactions of pyrimidine‐2‐thione (HpymS) with PdII/PtIV salts in the presence of triphenyl phosphine and bis(diphenylphosphino)alkanes, Ph2P‐(CH2)m‐PPh2 (m = 1, 2) have yielded two types of complexes, viz. a) [M(η2‐N, S‐ pymS)(η1‐S‐ pymS)(PPh3)] (M = Pd, 1 ; Pt, 2 ), and (b) [M(η1‐S‐pymS)2(L‐L)] {L‐L, M = dppm (m = 1) Pd, 3 ; Pt, 4 ; dppe (m = 2), Pd, 5 ; Pt, 6 }. Complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis (C, H, N), NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, 31P), and single crystal X‐ray crystallography ( 1 , 2 , 4 , and 5 ). Complexes 1 and 2 have terminal η1‐S and chelating η2‐N, S‐modes of pymS, while other Pd/Pt complexes have only terminal η1‐S modes. The solution state 31P NMR spectral data reveal dynamic equilibrium for the complexes 3 , 5 and 6 , whereas the complexes 1 , 2 and 4 are static in solution state.  相似文献

Room‐temperature long‐lived near‐IR phosphorescence of boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) was observed (λem=770 nm, ΦP=3.5 %, τP=128.4 μs). Our molecular‐design strategy is to attach PtII coordination centers directly onto the BODIPY π‐core using acetylide bonds, rather than on the periphery of the BODIPY core, thus maximizing the heavy‐atom effect of PtII. In this case, the intersystem crossing (ISC) is facilitated and the radiative decay of the T1 excited state of BODIPY is observed, that is, the phosphorescence of BODIPY. The complex shows strong absorption in the visible range (ε=53800 M ?1 cm?1 at 574 nm), which is rare for PtII–acetylide complexes. The complex is dual emissive with 3M LCT emission at 660 nm and the 3IL emission at 770 nm. The T1 excited state of the complex is mainly localized on the BODIPY moiety (i.e. 3IL state, as determined by steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy, 77 K emission spectra, and spin‐density analysis). The strong visible‐light‐harvesting ability and long‐lived T1 excite state of the complex were used for triplet‐triplet annihilation based upconversion and an upconversion quantum yield of 5.2 % was observed. The overall upconversion capability (η=ε×ΦUC) of this complex is remarkable considering its strong absorption. The model complex, without the BODIPY moiety, gives no upconversion under the same experimental conditions. Our work paves the way for access to transition‐metal complexes that show strong absorption of visible light and long‐lived 3IL excited states, which are important for applications in photovoltaics, photocatalysis, and upconversions, etc.  相似文献

A series of in situ formed alkenyl diboronate complexes from alkenyl Grignard reagents (commercially available or prepared from alkenyl bromides and Mg) with B2Pin2 (bis(pinacolato)diboron) react with diverse alkyl halides by a Ru photocatalyst to give various gem‐bis(boryl)alkanes. Alkyl radicals add efficiently to the alkenyl diboronate complexes, and the adduct radical anions undergo radical‐polar crossover, specifically, a 1,2‐boryl‐anion shift from boron to the α‐carbon sp2 center. This transformation shows good functional‐group compatibility and can serve as a powerful synthetic tool for late‐stage functionalization in complex compounds. Measurements of the quantum yield reveal that a radical‐chain mechanism is operative in which the alkenyl diboronates acts as reductive quencher for the excited state of the photocatalyst.  相似文献

A new family of trimetallic complexes of the form [(bpy)2M(phen‐Hbzim‐tpy)M′(tpy‐Hbzim‐phen)M(bpy)2]6+ (M=RuII, Os; M′=FeII, RuII, Os; bpy=2,2′‐bipyridine) derived from heteroditopic phenanthroline–terpyridine bridge 2‐{4‐[2,6‐di(pyridin‐2‐yl) pyridine‐4‐yl]phenyl}‐1H‐imidazole[4,5‐f][1,10]phenanthroline (phen‐Hbzim‐tpy) were prepared and fully characterized. Zn2+ was used to prepare mixed‐metal trimetallic complexes in situ by coordinating with the free tpy site of the monometallic precursors. The complexes show intense absorptions throughout the UV/Vis region and also exhibit luminescence at room temperature. The redox behavior of the compounds is characterized by several metal‐centered reversible oxidation and ligand‐centered reduction processes. Steady‐state and time‐resolved luminescence data show that the potentially luminescent RuII‐ and OsII‐based triplet metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer (3MLCT) excited states in the triads are quantitatively quenched, most likely by intercomponent energy transfer to the lower lying 3MLCT (for Ru and Os) or triplet metalcentered (3MC) excited states of the FeII subunit (nonluminescent). Interestingly, iron did not adversely affect the photophysics of the respective systems. This suggests that the multicomponent molecular‐wire‐like complexes investigated here can behave as efficient light‐harvesting antennas, because all the light absorbed by the various subunits is efficiently channeled to the subunit(s) in which the lowest‐energy excited states are located.  相似文献

In an effort to develop robust molecular sensitizers for solar fuel production, the electronic structure and photodynamics of transition‐metal‐substituted polyoxometalates (POMs), a novel class of compound in this context, was examined. Experimental and computational techniques including femtosecond (fs) transient absorption spectroscopy have been used to study the cobalt‐containing Keggin POMs, [CoIIW12O40]6? ( 1 a ), [CoIIIW12O40]5? ( 2 a ), [SiCoII(H2O)W11O39]6? ( 3 a ), and [SiCoIII(H2O)W11O39]5? ( 4 a ), finding the longest lived charge transfer excited state so far observed in a POM and elucidating the electronic structures and excited‐state dynamics of these compounds at an unprecedented level. All species exhibit a bi‐exponential decay in which early dynamic processes with time constants in the fs domain yield longer lived excited states which decay with time constants in the ps to ns domain. The initially formed states of 1 a and 3 a are considered to result from metal‐to‐polyoxometalate charge transfer (MPCT) from CoII to W, while the longer‐lived excited state of 1 a is tentatively assigned to a localized intermediate MPCT state. The excited state formed by the tetrahedral cobalt(II) centered heteropolyanion ( 1 a ) is far longer‐lived (τ=420 ps in H2O; τ=1700 ps in MeCN) than that of 3 a (τ=1.3 ps), in which the single CoII atom is located in a pseudo‐octahedral addendum site. Short‐lived states are observed for the two CoIII‐containing heteropolyanions 2 a (τ=4.4 ps) and 4 a (τ=6.3 ps) and assigned solely to O→CoIII charge transfer. The dramatically extended lifetime for 1 a versus 3 a is ascribed to a structural change permitted by the coordinatively flexible central site, weak orbital overlap of the central Co with the polytungstate framework, and putative transient valence trapping of the excited electron on a single W atom, a phenomenon not noted previously in POMs.  相似文献
