A Bessel excursion is a Bessel process that begins at the origin and first returns there at some given time \(T\) . We study the distribution of the area under such an excursion, which recently found application in the context of laser cooling. The area \(A\) scales with the time as \(A \sim T^{3/2}\) , independent of the dimension, \(d\) , but the functional form of the distribution does depend on \(d\) . We demonstrate that for \(d=1\) , the distribution reduces as expected to the distribution for the area under a Brownian excursion, known as the Airy distribution, deriving a new expression for the Airy distribution in the process. We show that the distribution is symmetric in \(d-2\) , with nonanalytic behavior at \(d=2\) . We calculate the first and second moments of the distribution, as well as a particular fractional moment. We also analyze the analytic continuation from \(d<2\) to \(d>2\) . In the limit where \(d\rightarrow 4\) from below, this analytically continued distribution is described by a one-sided Lévy \(\alpha \) -stable distribution with index \(2/3\) and a scale factor proportional to \([(4-d)T]^{3/2}\) .  相似文献

We consider Brownian motion in the presence of an external and a weakly coupled pair interaction potential and show that its stationary measure is a Gibbs measure. Uniqueness of the Gibbs measure for two cases is shown. Also the typical path behaviour, the degree of mixing and some further properties are derived. We have investigated various problems that arise in applying the Brownian dynamics method to a suspension composed of rod-like hematite particles, which have a magnetic moment normal to the particle axis direction. The accuracy and the deviation of simulation results from theoretical solutions have been discussed by comparison with the theoretical solutions that were obtained by solving the basic equations of the orientational distribution function. The characteristics of the negative viscosity are not observed to be dependent on a time interval unless a sufficiently short time interval is used. The present simulation results can satisfactorily reproduce the qualitative characteristics of the negative magneto-rheological effect that was predicted by the previous theoretical investigation. Good quantitative agreement is obtained in the range of small-applied magnetic fields, but agreement is not significantly good in the large magnetic field region. The deviation of the negative viscosity from the theoretical prediction cannot be improved by using a more accurate numerical algorithm such as moving from Euler to second-order or fourth-order Runge–Kutta. The results of the orientational distribution can well reproduce the characteristic features that the distribution has a gradual shape with low linear-like peak, which is in significant contrast to the sharp single-peak distribution of a ferromagnetic rod-like particle dispersion. The present orientational distributions are in significantly good agreement with those of the theoretical prediction in regard to the position and the height of a peak and the general shape of the overall profile. Good agreement of the present magnetisation curves with the theoretical prediction verifies that the spin rotational Brownian motion is activated at a physically reasonable level in the present simulations.  相似文献

We have investigated the behaviour of a suspension of magnetic rod-like hematite particles in a simple shear flow with the addition of an applied magnetic field. A significant feature of the present hematite particle suspension is the fact that the magnetic moment of the hematite particle lies normal to the particle-axis direction. From simulations, we have attempted to clarify the dependence of the negative magneto-rheological effect on the particle aggregation and orientational distribution of particles. The present Brownian dynamics method has a significant advantage in that it takes into account the spin rotational Brownian motion about the particle axis in addition to the ordinary translational and rotational Brownian motion. The net viscosity is decomposed into three components and discussed at a deeper level and in detail: these three viscosity components arise from (1) the torque due to the magnetic particle–field interaction, (2) the torque and (3) the force due to the interaction between particles. It is found that a slight change in the orientational distribution has a significant influence on the negative magneto-rheological effect. In a relatively dense suspension, the viscosity components arising from an applied magnetic field and the interaction between particles come to change rapidly for a certain strength of the magnetic particle–particle interaction, which is due to the onset of the formation of raft-like clusters.  相似文献

The one-dimensional Brownian motion and the Brownian motion of a spherical particle in an infinite medium are described by the conventional methods and integral transforms considering the entrainment of surrounding particles of the medium by the Brownian particle. It is demonstrated that fluctuations of the Brownian particle velocity represent a non-Markovian random process. A harmonic oscillator in a viscous medium is also considered within the framework of the examined model. It is demonstrated that for rheological models, random dynamic processes are also non-Markovian in character. A general stationary case of a Brownian particle with a time-dependent periodic potential proportional to the square of the position of the particle is treated. Even though the vigorous change of the time-dependent proportionality coefficient is applied, there are cases where the fluctuation of the particle decreases in contrary to our intuition, which is called classical fluctuation squeezing. We obtain time-average variances analytically for general cases of an arbitrary change in the coefficient and find conditions favorable for classical fluctuation squeezing. We introduce an asymmetric function behaves like trigonometric cosine one and consider its behavior explicitly.  相似文献

A projection operator method is presented, which provides the most efficient way for calculating the stationary behavior of nonlinear Brownian motion. A continued-fraction expansion of the Fourier-Laplace transform of the displacement correlation function or the spectral density is used. This method utilizes a successive optimization procedure on the nonlinear terms and includes the method of statistical linearization as the lowest order approximation. A systematic way to calculate the continued fraction numerically up to sufficient order for convergence is developed, which enables us to obtain the spectral density of a system previously uncomputable.Numerical computations of the spectral density of a nonlinear oscillator with a double-well potential are presented and compared with the results obtained by statistical linearization.This work was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant CHE 75-20624.  相似文献

We investigate the distribution functionQ(P) describing the survival probability on a comb consisting of a backbone with lateral, randomly disconnected infinite branches. Two different regimes are analyzed in some detail: (i) at short times,Q(P) is shown to have a self-similar structure (devil's staircase); (ii) at large times, this function becomes smooth and tends toward a rather well-defined unit step function. The disorder-averaged survival probability <p 0(t)> is expected to decrease ast –3/4 at large times, whereas the relative fluctuations of the sample-dependentp 0(t) display a very slow decay in time, going to zero liket –1/8.  相似文献

根据惠更斯定理,研究了单轴晶体光轴任意方向的双折射与全内双反射,给出了光线方向和光波法线方向的普遍公式.讨论了在晶体内沿多个面的连续双折射双反射,分析了前一界面输出量和后一界面输入量之间的联系,得到多次双折射双反射后的光线方向和光波法线方向.在此基础上,适当地选取晶体的界面参数,相当于选取光轴方向,可以使o光和e光的分离角Δoe更大.光轴方向任意的晶体连续双折射双反射对晶体器件的最优化设计非常有帮助.最后给出了改变斜入射2×2电光开关的出射面参数使Δoe优化的实例.  相似文献

By estimating the force and torque acting on the cube for the two cases of a uniform flow field and a rotational flow field, we have discussed whether or not there is a coupling between the translational and the rotational motion. From the characteristics of the friction coefficients, we may understand that there is no coupling between the translation motion and the rotational motion in the situation of the Reynolds number being sufficiently smaller than unity. In contrast, in the case of a non-slow flow field with the Reynolds number larger than unity, the coupling characteristics of the motion of a cube is certainly recognised and therefore the interaction with the ambient fluid is characterised by a variety of friction coefficients including friction coefficients that relate the forces acting on the cube to the angular velocities of the rotational motion. Hence, the employment of these translational and rotational diffusion coefficients for a cube enables the implementation of Brownian dynamics simulations for a suspension composed of cubic particles in order to analyse the dynamic characteristics of a cubic particle suspension.

  1. We have considered a flow problem around a cube in order to numerically clarify the characteristics of the translational and rotational friction or diffusion coefficients.

  2. In a slow flow field the motion of the cube need only to be characterised by two friction coefficients, i.e. the translational and rotational friction coefficients.

  3. In the case of a non-slow flow field, the coupling characteristics between the translational motion and the rotational motion are recognised.

  4. Employment of these diffusion coefficients enables the implementation of Brownian dynamics simulations for a suspension composed of cubic particles.

The three‐parameter, Generalized Gamma function solution of a recent MEF formulation used to derive liquid spray drop‐size distribution, is applied to sprays resulting from three different atomization processes. The objectives of these applications are to determine the sign of the parameters for which this function reports a more reliable fit and to further understand the parameter stability problem reported elsewhere. It is found that the lack of stability of the parameters is related to a characteristic feature of the mathematical function and appears for a series of spray drop‐size distributions with constant shape. For each situation analyzed in the present study, the Generalized Gamma function provides a very good fit with parameters that are either constant or correlated to the working conditions. As far as the sign of the parameters is concerned, the results show that the best formulation is a function of the spray and that it is impossible to know, a priori, which parameter sign will report the best fit. Finally, for one situation, it is found that the Generalized Gamma function allows extrapolation of drop sizes outside the measured values. All of the results converge to conclude that the three‐parameter Generalized Gamma function, which is identical to the well‐known Nukiyama‐Tanasawa distribution, accumulates valuable attributes to represent liquid spray drop‐size distributions.  相似文献

荧光寿命法成像技术(FLIM)是一种非常有效、功能强大且能用来分析复杂生物组织和细胞分子的成像技术。传统的荧光寿命成像的数据分析,按某些具有不同寿命、离散的单参量指数模型来描述荧光衰减过程。在生物组织这样既复杂又不均匀的样品中,虽然多参量指数模型能提供比单参量指数模型对实验数据更好的拟合效果,但是离散多参量的假定往往是随意的。提出了拟威布尔分布密度函数可能是生物荧光分子团衰减动力过程的真实再现,并且通过计算证明,对于某些生化感兴趣的荧光分子团的多槽基面效价测定样品的数据,相对于单参量指数与多参量指数衰减函数有更好的一致性。同时讨论了将该荧光衰减模型应用于荧光寿命成像的前景。  相似文献

The particle size distribution of fine chemicals in the solid state, like active pharmaceutical ingredients, is often a critical parameter. To achieve the desired particle size distribution, milling of such materials is usually the method of choice. Since these chemicals are often scarcely available, experimental optimization of milling is not possible. Therefore, a model to predict the milling conditions has been developed. The model estimates the rate of breakage function, and needs mechanical properties like hardness and yield strength as input to calculate the rate of breakage function. This paper attempts to check the validity of the model by a series of experiments. A comparison of the experimental results with the outcomes of the model using five different model compounds has been performed. It appears that the rate of breakage function can be estimated by: The model is able to rank the compounds by degree of fracture as an effect of milling. It was also possible to perform a quantitative prediction of the impact of milling pressure on the milling behavior. Finally, it appeared that the prediction of the large particles in the distribution was significantly better than small ones. Because the oversized material is usually the most critical parameter, the conclusion is that the model has acceptable practical applicability.  相似文献

In regard to the worldwide interest in synthesis and application of stable carbenes, ab initio and DFT calculations (CCSD(T)/6‐311G*//QCISD/6‐31G* and B3LYP/AUG‐cc‐pVTZ//B3LYP/6‐31 + G* levels) are employed to reach at a series of symmetrically substituted diheteroatom carbenes. In this way the multiplicity, stability, and reactivity of diethylcarbene and its saturated and unsaturated cyclic congeners are compared and contrasted to the corresponding disilyl‐, diamino‐, diphosphino‐, dioxy‐, and dithiocarbenes. The investigations reveal the enlargement of the singlet–triplet energy gaps (ΔES‐T) in the order of (amino ≈ oxy) > thio > phosphino > alkyl > silyl. The observed trend is thoroughly analyzed applying appropriate isodesmic reactions which differentiate the substituent effects on each of the singlet and triplet states of all the carbenes. In contrast to previous reports, it is found that π‐donor/σ‐acceptor amino substituents stabilize not only the singlet but also the triplet states. The effects of cyclization and unsaturation are also probed in each series of the symmetrically substituted carbenes. The reactivity of the species is discussed in terms of nucleophilicity, electrophilicity, and proton affinity. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The effect of the ratio of block lengths on the interfacial partitioning of poly(styrene-block-1,4 isoprene) diblock copolymers from their mixtures with polystyrene homopolymer melt is investigated utilizing a series of copolymers with almost constant molecular weight but different compositions. The concentration profile of the copolymer is measured directly using the nuclear reaction analysis technique; a segregation of the diblock is found at both the air/polymer surface, due to the lower surface energy of polyisoprene, and at the substrate/polymer interface. No significant effect of the block length ratio on the free-surface excess was observed. The block molecular weights have apparently led to dangling chain conformations in the non-overlapping mushroom and in the overlapping mushroom regimes whereas the brush regime was not accessible; no indications of a real border between the two former regimes was found. The investigation of non-reciprocal behavior of optical beams in a rotating reference frame was the main motivation of the historic tabletop experiment of George Sagnac. His ground-breaking experiment was extended to a very large installation more than a decade later, which was sensitive enough to allow Michelson, Pearson and Gale to resolve the rotation rate of the Earth by an optical interferometer. With the advent of lasers in the early sixties of the last century, rotating laser cavities with a ring structure demonstrated superior performance and very soon matured to a point where mechanical gyroscopes were quickly superseded by laser gyroscopes in aircraft navigation. When vastly upscaled ring lasers were taken back to the laboratory at the end of the 20th century, the goal of applying the Sagnac effect to geodesy for the monitoring of tiny variations of Earth's rotation was the main motivation. The large-ring laser G, which is the most stable instrument out of a series of instruments built by the New Zealand–German collaboration, routinely resolves the rotation rate of the Earth to better than eight orders of magnitude. Since G is directly referenced to the Earth rotation axis, the effect of diurnal polar motion, the Chandler and the Annual wobbles as well as tilts from the solid Earth tides can be found in the interferogram obtained from the ring laser. G has also demonstrated high sensitivity to rotations associated with seismic events. The toroidal eigenmodes of the Earth when they are excited by large earthquakes have been resolved. A surprisingly large amplitude has been measured for Love wave signals contained in the microseismic background signal. This paper summarizes the recent development of highly sensitive large Sagnac gyroscopes, and presents unique results from the measurements of rotations of the earth.  相似文献

The electronic structures of self-assembled InAs1−xNx/GaAs nanostructures from quantum lens to quantum rings (QRs) are calculated using the 10-band k.p method and the valence force field (VFF) method. With the variation of shape of the nanostructure and nitrogen (N) content, it shows that the N and the strains can significantly affect the energy levels especially the conduction band because the N resonant state has repulsion interaction with the conduction band due to the band anticrossing (BAC). The structures with N and greater height have smaller transition energy, and the structures with N have greater optical gain due to its overwhelming greater value of factor fc+fv−1fc+fv1. After analyzing the shape effect, we suggested that the nanostructures with volcano shape are preferred because the maximum optical gain occurs for quantum volcano. With our simulation result, researchers could select quantum dots (QDs) structures to design laser with better performance.  相似文献

Most of the applications of electrochromic devices (ECDs) concern the visible whereas there is a significant need for ECDs active in the infrared (IR) region. After optimization, WO3 thin films show significant variation in emissivity, as high as 78% and 49% in the MW (3-5 μm) band and LW (8-12 μm) band, respectively. The incorporation of the EC WO3 layer in ECDs is discussed in terms (i) of device configuration (i.e. position of the active layer on top or bottom of the device), (ii) of the choice of materials including the transparent conductive layer, electrolyte, counter electrode, and (iii) of the thickness of each layer. Initial trends in optical modulation of the ECDs are deduced from simulation of the optical indexes (n and k). Experimental data based on half-cell assembly confirm the modulation in emissivity in the IR region for WO3/Ta2O5/NiO-based devices with however lower values than the predicted ones.  相似文献
