We investigate population transfer across the barrier in a double-well potential, induced by a pair of time-delayed single-lobe half-cycle pulses. We apply this setup both to a one-dimensional (1D) quartic model potential and to a three-dimensional potential representing HCN-->HNC isomerization. Overall the results for the two systems are similar, although in the 3D system some additional features appear not seen in the 1D case. The generic mechanism of population transfer is the preparation by the pump pulse of a wave packet involving delocalized states above the barrier, followed by the essentially 1D motion of the delocalized part of wave packet across the barrier, and the eventual de-excitation by the dump pulse to localized states in the other well. The correct timing is given by the well-to-well passage time of the wave packet and its recurrence properties, and by the signs of the field lobes which determine the direction and acceleration or deceleration of the wave packet motion. In the 3D system an additional pump-pump-dump mechanism linked to wave packet motion in the reagent well can mediate isomerization. Since the transfer time and the pulse durations are of the same order of magnitude, there is also a marked dependence of the dynamics and the transfer yield on the pulse duration. Our analysis also sheds light on the pronounced carrier envelope phase dependence previously observed for isomerization and molecular dissociation with one-cycle and sub-one-cycle pulses.  相似文献

In this paper, a theoretical model is proposed to investigate the molecular rotational state populations pumped by multiple laser pulses through an impulsive Raman process based on second-order perturbation theory and an analytical solution for the dependence of the rotational state populations on the time delays and the relative amplitudes of the multiple laser pulses has been achieved. The results indicate that the molecular rotational state populations can be controlled by precisely manipulating the time delays and the relative amplitudes, which can be significantly enhanced or completely suppressed, and so the molecular rotational wave packet and field-free molecular alignment can be efficiently manipulated.  相似文献

Regulation of photodissociation dynamics of oriented LiH molecules in different dissociation channels is proposed based on time dependent quantum wave packet theory. The enhancement of molecular orientation on the photodissociation of LiH is obvious with our theoretical scheme. The results show that the molecular orientation in the ground state has a great effect on the angular distributions of wave packets. By using the proper laser pulses and controlling the polarization direction of the laser pulses, the enhancement of the photodissociation could be realized. After the molecular orientation, an optimal dissociation channel is observed with an improved dissociation probability. Compared with the results without molecular orientation, the maximal dissociation probability is increased by 8.1% in the indirect dissociation channel and 30.7% in the direct dissociation channel. The enhancement effect is more obvious in the direct dissociation channel, which provides a possible method to manipulate the dissociation of LiH molecules experimentally. Additionally, the photodissociation process of LiH also relies on the electric intensity and delay time of two pump pulses.  相似文献

We illustrate how the preparation and probing of rotational Raman wave packets in O(2) detected by time-dependent degenerate four-wave mixing (TD-DFWM) can be manipulated by an additional time-delayed control pulse. By controlling the time delay of this field, we are able to induce varying amounts of additional Rabi cycling among multiple rotational states within the system. The additional Rabi cycling is manifested as a change in the signal detection from homodyne detected to heterodyne detected, depending on the degree of rotational alignment induced. At the highest laser intensities, Rabi cycling among multiple rotational states cannot account for the almost complete transformation to a heterodyne-detected signal, suggesting a second mechanism involving ionization. The analysis we present for these effects, involving the formation of static alignment by Rabi cycling at moderate laser intensities and possibly ion gratings at the highest intensities, appears to be consistent with the experimental findings and may offer viable explanations for the switching from homodyne to heterodyne detection observed in similar DFWM experiments at high laser field intensities (>10(13) W/cm(2)).  相似文献

We numerically investigate the post-pulse alignment of rotationally excited diatomic molecules upon nonresonant interaction with a linearly polarized laser pulse. In addition to the simulations, we develop a simple model which qualitatively describes the shape and amplitude of post-pulse alignment induced by a laser pulse of moderate power density. In our treatment we take into account that molecules in rotationally excited states can interact with a laser pulse not only by absorbing energy but also by stimulated emission. The extent to which these processes are present in the interaction depends, on the one hand, on the directionality of the molecular angular momentum (given by the M quantum number), and on the other hand on the ratio of transition frequencies and pulse duration (determined by the J number). A rotational wave packet created by a strong pulse from an initially pure state contains a broad range of rotational levels, over which the character of the interaction can change from non-adiabatic to adiabatic. Depending on the laser pulse duration and amplitude, the transition from the non-adiabatic to the adiabatic limit proceeds through a region with dominant rotational heating, or alignment, for short pulses and a large region with rotational cooling, and correspondingly preferred anti-alignment, for longer pulses.  相似文献

We investigate coherent correlation between nonadiabatic rotational excitation and angle-dependent ionization of NO in intense laser fields in the state-resolved manner. When neutral NO molecules are partly ionized in intense laser fields (I(0) > 35 TW/cm(2)), a hole in the rotational wave packet of the remaining neutral NO is created because of the ionization rate depending on the alignment angle of the molecular axis with respect to the laser polarization direction. Rotational state distributions of NO are experimentally observed, and then the characteristic feature that the population at higher J levels is increased by the ionization can be identified. Numerical calculation for solving time-dependent rotational Schro?dinger equations including the effect of the ionization is carried out. The numerical results suggest that NO molecules aligned perpendicular to the laser polarization direction are dominantly ionized at the peak intensity of I(0) = 42 TW/cm(2), where the multiphoton ionization is preferred rather than the tunneling ionization.  相似文献

We consider the transformation process of one molecular subsystem into another (for example, structural isomer-isomer transformation) under the condition of a group of close levels in the first subsystem that have the energy on average coincident with the mean energy of the second subsystem (quasi-degeneration). It is shown that, similar to the previously discussed resonance between two levels of two subsystems, it is also possible in this case to compose an oscillating wave packet leading to a resonant transition from one subsystem to another. The calculation procedure is described that can be applied to atomic ensembles of any complexity with any number of quasi-resonant levels.  相似文献

Sequences of pulses with different spectra are used to control rotational wave packet dynamics in Li(2) by exploiting quantum interference phenomena. Wave packet superpositions are excited in a two-step resonant Raman process by two different pulses. Interferences between individual states shared by both wave packets can be used to enhance or destroy specific components of a superposition by varying the time delay between the pulses and/or the relative phase within the pulses. Elimination of selected quantum beats is achieved by greater than 94% for each case. A simple, yet effective, method for generating different color phase-locked pairs of laser pulses in a liquid-crystal pulse shaper setup without the need for interferometric stabilization schemes is described. The ability to manipulate single states of a superposition is an important advancement for intuitive control schemes and provides a potential new approach for initialization schemes in the field of quantum information.  相似文献

The hindered rotational states of molecules confined in crystal fields of octahedral symmetry, and their time-dependent alignment obtained by pulsed nonresonant laser fields, are studied computationally. The control over the molecular axis direction is discussed based on the evolution of the rotational wave packet generated in the cubic crystal-field potential. The alignment degree obtained in a cooperative case, where the alignment field is applied in a favorable crystal-field direction, or in a competitive direction, where the crystal field has a saddle point, is presented. The investigation is divided into two time regimes where the pulse duration is either ultrashort, leading to nonadiabatic dynamics, or long with respect to period of molecular libration, which leads to synchronous alignment due to nearly adiabatic following. The results are contrasted to existing gas phase studies. In particular, the irregularity of the crystal-field energies leads to persistent interference patterns in the alignment signals. The use of nonadiabatic alignment for interrogation of crystal-field energetics and the use of adiabatic alignment for directional control of molecular dynamics in solids are proposed as practical applications.  相似文献

In this paper we derive the basic physics underlying infrared-x-ray pump-probe spectroscopy (IR, infrared). Particular features of the spectroscopy are highlighted and discussed, such as dependence on phase of the infrared pulse, duration and delay time of the x-ray pulse, and molecular orientation. Numerical applications are carried out for the water dimer using wave packet techniques. It is shown that core ionization of the donor oxygen of the water dimer results in a drastic change of the potential with the global minimum placed in the proton transfer region. The results of the modeling indicate that IR-x-ray pump-probe spectroscopy can be used to study the dynamics of proton transfer in this core-ionized state, and that, contrary to conventional core level photoelectron spectroscopy, x-ray core-ionization driven by an IR field is a proper method to explore the proton transfer in a system like the water dimer. We observe that the trajectory of the nuclear wave packet in the ground state potential well is strongly affected by the absolute phase of the IR pulse.  相似文献

Strong magnetic fields can hybridize low rotational states of paramagnetic molecules or molecular ions whose electronic angular momentum is coupled to the molecular axis. The hybridization creates pendular states in which the molecular axis is confined to librate over a limited angular range about the field direction. In this way substantial spatial alignment associated with large Zeeman shifts can be attained for many ground-state radicals or ions and electronically excited states of diatomic or linear molecules. The magnetic hybridization is analogous to that recently demonstrated for polar molecules in electric fields. The magnetic version can only provide ensemble alignment rather than orientation, but offers complementary chemical scope by virtue of its applicability to nonpolar molecules and ions.  相似文献

A complete quantum study for the state-to-state Li + HF(v,j,m) → LiF(v',j',Ω') + H reactive collisions has been performed using a wave packet method, for different initial rotational states and helicity states of the reactants. The state-to-state differential cross section has been simulated, and the polarization of products extracted. It is found that the reactivity is enhanced for nearly collinear collisions, which produces a vibrational excitation of HF, needed to overcome the late barrier. It is also found that LiF(v' = 0) products are preferentially forward scattered, while vibrationally excited LiF(v' = 1 and 2) are backward scattered. These results are interpreted with a simple reaction mechanism, based on the late character and bent geometry of the transition state, originating from a covalent/ionic crossing, which consists of two steps: the arrival at the transition state and the dissociation. In the first step, in order to get to the saddle point some HF vibrational excitation is required, which favors head-on collisions and therefore low values of m. In the second step a fast dissociation of H atom takes place, which is explained by the ionic Li(+)F(-)H character of the bent transition state: the FH(-) is repulsive making that H depart rapidly leaving a highly rotating LiF molecule. For the higher energy analyzed, where resonances slightly contribute, the orientation and alignment of product rotational states, referred to as reactants frame (with the z-axis parallel to k), are approximately constant with the scattering angle. The alignment is close to -1, showing that j' is perpendicular to k, while starting from initial states with well defined rotational orientation, as states with pure m values, the final rotational are also oriented. It is also found that when using products frame (with the z'-axis parallel to k') the rotational alignment and orientation of products varies a lot with the scattering angle just because the z' axis changes from being parallel to anti-parallel to k when varying from θ = 0 to π.  相似文献

We regard the rovibrational wave packet dynamics of NaI in a static electric field after femtosecond excitation to its first electronically excited state. The following quasibound nuclear wave packet motion is accompanied by a bonding situation changing from covalent to ionic. At times when the charge separation is present, i.e., when the bond-length is large, a strong dipole moment exists and rotational excitation takes place. Upon bond contraction, the then covalently bound molecule does not experience the external field. This scenario repeats itself periodically. Thus, the vibrational dynamics causes a situation which is comparable to the interaction of the molecule with a train of pulses where the pulse separation is determined by the vibrational period.  相似文献

A two-state vibrational wave packet is prepared in a low-lying 4d[12](1 or 2) Rydberg state of jet cooled Br(2) (4d, v(')=3 and v(')=4) by two-photon excitation with 266.5 nm pulses from an ultrafast laser. The wave packet is detected by autoionization following excitation with time-delayed 800 nm pulses to the n=8 (v(+)=4) and n=9 (v(+)=3) Rydberg states in the (2)Pi(12) angular momentum core state. Autoionization of each state occurs to the (2)Pi(32) state of the ion through spin-orbit ionization. Photoelectron spectroscopy is used to differentiate between the n=8 and n=9 ejected photoelectrons. Detection of the wave packet recurrences via the n=8 and n=9 Rydberg states reveals a pi phase-shift difference of the recurrences between the two final states. In each case, Delta v not equal 0 transitions are observed since wave packet recurrences are detected. By fitting the observed phase change of the recurrences with a simple model for the overlap amplitudes and assumptions about the potentials, we estimate, within the context of the model, that approximately 0.6% of the transitions may be attributed to Delta v= +/- 1 transitions between the initial Rydberg superposition state and the final Rydberg detection state.  相似文献

Strong pulse sequences can be used to control the position and width of the molecular wave packet. In this paper we propose a new scheme to maximally compress the wave packet in a quasistatic way by freezing it at a peculiar adiabatic potential shaped by two laser pulses. The dynamic principles of the scheme and the characteristic effect of the different control parameters are presented and analyzed. We use two different molecular models, electronic potentials modeled by harmonic oscillators, with the same force constants, and the Na(2) dimer, to show the typical yield that can be obtained in compressing the initial (minimum width) molecular wave function.  相似文献

Wave packet signals in Li(2) prepared by shaped pump pulses are also detected with state-selected shaped probe pulses in the ionization continuum. The results show that the final states are discrete Rydberg states instead of continuum states. Final autoionizing states in the continuum are observed and characterized. By selecting specific resonant rovibrational electronic transitions from the superposition states prepared in the wave packets to the final autoionizing states with the pulse shaping system, the modulation depths of the wave packet signals are increased by as much as 5.20+/-0.03 times. Control of the wave packets is also realized by shaping the probe pulses to select specific resonant transitions between the states in the wave packets and the highly excited Rydberg states. The detected amplitude ratio of one specific vibrational quantum beat to one specific rotational quantum beat can be decreased by ten times.  相似文献

We study the control by electromagnetic fields of molecular alignment and orientation in a linear, rigid-rotor model. With the help of a monotonically convergent algorithm, we find that the optimal field is in the microwave part of the spectrum and acts by resonantly exciting the rotation of the molecule progressively from the ground state, i.e., by rotational ladder climbing. This mechanism is present not only when maximizing orientation or alignment, but also when using prescribed target states that simultaneously optimize the efficiency of orientation/alignment and its duration. The extension of the optimization method to consider a finite rotational temperature is also presented.  相似文献
