In the present paper, linearly edge-reinforced random walk is studied on a large class of one-dimensional periodic graphs satisfying a certain reflection symmetry. It is shown that the edge-reinforced random walk is recurrent. Estimates for the position of the random walker are given. The edge-reinforced random walk has a unique representation as a random walk in a random environment, where the random environment is given by random weights on the edges. It is shown that these weights decay exponentially in space. The distribution of the random weights equals the distribution of the asymptotic proportion of time spent by the edge-reinforced random walker on the edges of the graph. The results generalize work of the authors in Merkl and Rolles (Ann Probab 33(6):2051–2093, 2005; 35(1):115–140, 2007) and Rolles (Probab Theory Related Fields 135(2):216–264, 2006) to a large class of graphs and to periodic initial weights with a reflection symmetry.  相似文献

We consider a random walk in random environment on a strip, which is transient to the right. The random environment is stationary and ergodic. By the constructed enlarged random environment which was first introduced by Goldsheid (2008), we obtain the large deviations conditioned on the environment (in the quenched case) for the hitting times of the random walk.  相似文献

In this article, a localisation result is proved for the biased random walk on the range of a simple random walk in high dimensions ( $d\ge 5$ ). This demonstrates that, unlike in the supercritical percolation setting, a slowdown effect occurs as soon as a non-trivial bias is introduced. The proof applies a decomposition of the underlying simple random walk path at its cut-times to relate the associated biased random walk to a one-dimensional random walk in a random environment in Sinai’s regime. Via this approach, a corresponding aging result is also proved.  相似文献

Analytic expressions are presented for the characteristic function of the first passage time distribution for biased random walk on a finite chain (and diffusion with drift on a finite line); of the first passage time distribution for a random walk on a chain, in which the events (jumps) are governed by an arbitrary renewal process; and of the distribution of the time of escape from a bounded set of points in the latter case. A fundamental relation between the first passage time distribution and the conditional probability for random walk (or diffusion) in one dimension is analyzed and generalized.  相似文献

A new Monte Carlo technique is applied to solve difference equations of elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations with given boundary values. Fixed random walk is extended to modified random walk, whereby a random walk is made on a maximum square. The average number of steps and the computational time in a modified random walk is much less than in a fixed random walk. Numerical examples support the utility of this method.  相似文献

We discuss the quenched tail estimates for the random walk in random scenery. The random walk is the symmetric nearest neighbor walk and the random scenery is assumed to be independent and identically distributed, non-negative, and has a power law tail. We identify the long time asymptotics of the upper deviation probability of the random walk in quenched random scenery, depending on the tail of scenery distribution and the amount of the deviation. The result is in turn applied to the tail estimates for a random walk in random conductance which has a layered structure.  相似文献

Reflected random walk in higher dimension arises from an ordinary random walk (sum of i.i.d. random variables): whenever one of the reflecting coordinates becomes negative, its sign is changed, and the process continues from that modified position. One-dimensional reflected random walk is quite well understood from work in 7 decades, but the multidimensional model presents several new difficulties. We consider the state-dependent reflecting random walk on a half- strip. We provide explicit criteria for (positive) recurrence, and an explicit expression for the stationary distribution. As a consequence, the light-tailed behavior of the stationary distribution is proved under appropriate conditions. The key idea of the method employed here is the decomposition of the trajectory of the random walk and the main tool is the intrinsic branching structure buried in the random walk on a strip, which is different from the matrix-analytic method.  相似文献

Inspired by Benjamini et al.(2010) and Windisch(2010),we consider the entropy of the random walk ranges R_n formed by the first n steps of a random walk S on a discrete group.In this setting,we show the existence of h_R:=lim_(n→∞)H(R_n)/n called the asymptotic entropy of the ranges.A sample version of the above statement in the sense of Shannon(1948) is also proved.This answers a question raised by Windisch(2010).We also present a systematic characterization of the vanishing asymptotic entropy of the ranges.Particularly,we show that h_R=0 if and only if the random walk either is recurrent or escapes to negative infinity without left jump.By introducing the weighted digraphs Γ_n formed by the underlying random walk,we can characterize the recurrence property of S as the vanishing property of the quantity lim_(n→∞)H(Γ_n)/n,which is an analogue of h_R.  相似文献

We study a random walk in random environment on ?+. The random environment is not homogeneous in law, but is a mixture of two kinds of site, one in asymptotically vanishing proportion. The two kinds of site are (i) points endowed with probabilities drawn from a symmetric distribution with heavy tails at 0 and 1, and (ii) “fast points” with a fixed systematic drift. Without these fast points, the model is related to the diffusion in heavy-tailed (“stable”) random potential studied by Schumacher and Singh; the fast points perturb that model. The two components compete to determine the behaviour of the random walk; we identify phase transitions in terms of the model parameters. We give conditions for recurrence and transience and prove almost sure bounds for the trajectories of the walk.  相似文献

We solve main two-boundary problems for a random walk. The generating function of the joint distribution of the first exit time of a random walk from an interval and the value of the overshoot of the random walk over the boundary at exit time is determined. We also determine the generating function of the joint distribution of the first entrance time of a random walk to an interval and the value of the random walk at this time. The distributions of the supremum, infimum, and value of a random walk and the number of upward and downward crossings of an interval by a random walk are determined on a geometrically distributed time interval. In this paper, we study the total number of progeny, W, before regenerating of multitype branching process with immigration in random environment. We show that the tail probability of |W| is of order t-κ as t→∞, with κ some constant. As an application, we prove a stable law for (L-1) random walk in random environment, generalizing the stable law for the nearest random walk in random environment (see "Kesten, Kozlov, Spitzer: A limit law for random walk in a random environment. In this Note, we make explicit the limit law of the renormalized supercritical branching random walk, giving credit to a conjecture formulated in Barral et al. (2012) [5] for a continuous analogue of the branching random walk. Also, in the case of a branching random walk on a homogeneous tree, we express the law of the corresponding limiting renormalized Gibbs measures, confirming, in this discrete model, conjectures formulated by physicists (Derrida and Spohn, 1988 [9]) about the Poisson–Dirichlet nature of the jumps in the limit, and precising the conjecture by giving the spatial distribution of these jumps.  相似文献

We consider a branching random walk in random environments, where the particles are reproduced as a branching process with a random environment (in time), and move independently as a random walk on Z with a random environment (in locations).
