We present the result of our most recent search for T violation in 205Tl, which is interpreted in terms of an electric dipole moment of the electron d(e). We find d(e) = (6.9 +/- 7.4)x10(-28)e cm, which yields an upper limit /d(e)/ < or = 1.6x10(-27)e cm with 90% confidence. The present apparatus is a major upgrade of the atomic beam magnetic-resonance device used to set the previous limit on d(e).  相似文献

A new method for the detection of the electron electric dipole moment (EDM) using a solid is described. The method involves the measurement of a voltage induced across the solid by the alignment of the sample's magnetic dipoles in an applied magnetic field, H. A first application of the method to GdIG has resulted in a limit on the electron EDM of 5 x 10(-24)e cm, which is a factor of 40 below the limit obtained from the only previous solid-state EDM experiment. The result is limited by the imperfect discrimination of an unexpectedly large voltage that is even upon the reversal of the sample magnetization.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to resolve the present controversy in the value of the electric dipole moment (EDM) enhancement factor of Tl. We carry out several calculations by different high-precision methods, study previously omitted corrections, as well as test our methodology on other, parity conserving, quantities. We find the EDM enhancement factor of Tl to be equal to -573(20). This value is 20% larger than the recently published result of Nataraj et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 200403 (2011)], but agrees very well with several earlier results.  相似文献

The electric dipole moment (EDM) of paramagnetic atoms is sensitive to the intrinsic EDM contribution from that of its constituent electrons and a scalar-pseudoscalar (S-PS) electron-nucleus interaction. The electron EDM and the S-PS contributions to the EDMs of these atoms scale as approximately Z;{3}. Thus, the heavy paramagnetic atoms will exhibit large EDM enhancement factors. However, the sizes of the couplings are so small that they are of interest of high precision atomic experiments. In this work we have computed the EDM enhancement factors of the ground states of Rb and Cs due to both the electron EDM and the S-PS EDM using the relativistic coupled-cluster theory. The importance of determining precise ab initio enhancement factors and experimental results of atomic EDMs in deducing a reliable limit on the electron EDM is emphasized.  相似文献

An experimental search for an electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron has been carried out at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. Spurious signals from magnetic-field fluctuations were reduced to insignificance by the use of a cohabiting atomic-mercury magnetometer. Systematic uncertainties, including geometric-phase-induced false EDMs, have been carefully studied. The results may be interpreted as an upper limit on the neutron EDM of |d(n)|< 2.9 x 10(-26)e cm (90% C.L.).  相似文献

The existence of a non-zero electric dipole moment (EDM) implies the violation of time reversal symmetry. As the time-reversal symmetry violation predicted by the Standard Model (SM) for the electron EDM is too small to be observed with current experimental techniques and any a non-zero EDM would indicate new physics beyond the SM. The tiny signal from the electron EDM is enhanced in the heavy atoms such as francium (Fr). We are constructing the laser-cooled Fr factory to search for the electron EDM.  相似文献

New lifetime limits on the charge non-conserving (CNC) electron capture with excitation of the 417.9 keV nuclear level in the 127I are established by using the coincidence technique. The analysed exposure is 0.87 ton × yr, collected deep underground at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory of the INFN by the highly radiopure DAMA/LIBRA setup (??250 kg of highly radiopure NaI(Tl)). The new limit on the mean life is ??>1.2×1024?yr (90?% C.L.), about one order of magnitude larger than those previously available for CNC electron capture involving nuclear level excitations of 127I and of the same order of magnitude than those achieved for analogous processes in 129Xe.  相似文献

Heavy gauge bosons such as W' are expected to exist in many extensions of the Standard Model. In this paper, the most general Lagrangian for the interaction of W' with top and bottom quarks is considered. This Lagrangian consists of V- A and V + A structure with in general complex couplings. Such interactions produce an Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) for the top quark at one loop level. We predict the allowed ranges for the mass and couplings of W' by using the upper limit on the top quark EDM.  相似文献

A search of neutrino magnetic moment was carried out at the Kuo-Sheng Nuclear Power Station at a distance of 28 m from the 2.9 GW reactor core. With a high purity germanium detector of mass 1.06 kg surrounded by scintillating NaI(Tl) and CsI(Tl) crystals as anti-Compton detectors, a detection threshold of 5 keV and a background level of 1 kg(-1) keV(-1) day(-1) at 12-60 keV were achieved. Based on 4712 and 1250 h of reactor ON and OFF data, respectively, the limit on the neutrino magnetic moment of mu(nu;(e))<1.3x10(-10)mu(B) at 90% confidence level was derived. An indirect bound of the nu;(e) radiative lifetime of m(3)(nu)tau(nu)>2.8x10(18) eV(3) s can be inferred.  相似文献

Towards producing metallic particles of controlled size and spherical shape, which are of technological importance, we have collected in the filters of an electro-discharge-machine (EDM) the material ejected from the surface of EDM iron pieces. The conditions of machining were varied for kerosene and water as dielectrics, using a discharge current of 25 A and duration times of 16 and 3072 μs for kerosene and of 32, 384 and 768 μs for water, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy was used to assess the effect of the time of discharge on the size of the particles. Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction revealed that for kerosene EDM particles only cementite-like carbides of diverse stoichiometry were formed. While no oxide was found for kerosene spheres, the analyses showed that besides the main fraction of α-Fe, a small percentage of wüstite (and traces of hematite for the 384 μs sample) formed on the water EDM ones.  相似文献

The Korea Invisible Mass Search (KIMS) experiment presents new limits on the weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP)-nucleon cross section using data from an exposure of 3409 kg.d taken with low-background CsI(Tl) crystals at the Yangyang Underground Laboratory. The most stringent limit on the spin-dependent interaction for a pure proton case is obtained. The DAMA signal region for both spin-independent and spin-dependent interactions for the WIMP masses greater than 20 GeV/c2 is excluded by the single experiment with crystal scintillators.  相似文献

A new method to monitor the energy variation of a multi-energy electron linac by combining a Cerenkov detector and a CsI(Tl) detector is reported. The signals in the Cerenkov detector show an appreciable but different dependence on the energy of the electron linac from the traditional CsI(T1) detector due to the particular response of the former to charged electrons with high velocity above threshold. The method is more convenient than the HVL (half-value layer) method which is commonly employed to calibrate the energy of an electron linac for real time monitoring. The preliminary validity of the method is verified in a dual-energy electron linac with 6 MeV and 3 MeV gears. Moreover, the method combining the Cerenkov detector and the CsI(Tl) detector is applicable to probe the X-ray spectrum hardened by the inspected material and may serve as a novel tool for material discrimination with effective atomic number in radiation imaging.  相似文献

微量元素尤其是有害元素的监测控制与中药质量密切相关。对14种肿瘤治疗常用中药用微波消解法进行处理,用电感耦合等离子体质谱(ICP-MS)法检测了其中铀、钍和铊的含量。结果显示14种中药中铀、钍和铊含量的变化范围分别为,铀,0.005 153~0.153 4 μg·g-1;钍,0.035 01~0.462 8 μg·g-1;铊,0.001 43~1.600 μg·g-1。铀、钍和铊的含量都较低,但个体含量差异较大。 采用统计软件SPSS11.5对结果进行分析比较,结果显示清热解毒类中药与以毒攻毒类中药中铀、钍和铊含量都无显著性差异;植物类药与动物类药中铀、钍和铊的含量也无显著性差异。ICP-MS法快速、灵敏、准确,可作为中药中铀、钍和铊含量分析的可靠方法,另一方面本研究结果为临床中药的安全使用和药物开发提供了参考数据。  相似文献

Local and semilocal density functional approximations for the exchange-correlation energy fail badly in the zero-thickness limit of a quasi-two-dimensional electron gas, where the density variation is rapid almost everywhere. Here we show that a fully nonlocal fifth-rung functional, the inhomogeneous Singwi-Tosi-Land-Sj?lander (STLS) approach, which employs both occupied and unoccupied Kohn-Sham orbitals, recovers the true two-dimensional STLS limit and appears to be remarkably accurate for any thickness of the slab (and thus for the dimensional crossover). We also show that this good behavior is only partly due to the use of the full exact exchange energy.  相似文献

In order to resolve the controversy concerning the existence of an 868 keV γ-transition in the decay of 65d 85sSr and to determine the electron capture decay energy, radiochemically separated sources, Ge(Li), Ge(Li)-NaI(Tl), and NaI(Tl)-NaI(Tl) spectrometers have been used for singles and (X-ray-γ and γ-γ coincidence measurements. A γ-ray at 868.5±0.5 keV decaying with a 65±5 d half-life was conclusively identified in 85gSr decay. From measurements of the ratio Pκ(868.5)Pκ(514) of K-capture probabilities by (KX-ray-γ coincidences, a value of QEC was determined for the EC decay feeding the 868.5 keV transition. Thus, a level in 85Rb is established at 868.5 keV, and an upper limit of 0.45 μsec is set on its lifetime.  相似文献

Within the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the large tanβ regime can lead to important modifications in the pattern of CP-violating sources contributing to low energy electric dipole moments (EDMs). In particular, four-fermion CP-violating interactions induced by Higgs exchange should be accounted for alongside the constituent EDMs of quarks and electrons. To this end, we present a comprehensive analysis of three low energy EDM observables—namely the EDMs of thallium, mercury and the neutron—at large tanβ, in terms of one- and two-loop contributions to the constituent EDMs and four-fermion interactions. We concentrate on the constrained MSSM as well as the MSSM with nonuniversal Higgs masses, and include the CP-violating phases of μ and A. Our results indicate that the atomic EDMs receive significant corrections from four-fermion operators, especially when Im(A) is the only CP-violating source, whereas the neutron EDM remains relatively insensitive to these effects. As a consequence, in a large portion of the parameter space, one cannot infer a separate bound on the electron EDM via the experimental constraint on the thallium EDM. Furthermore, we find that the electron EDM can be greatly reduced due to the destructive interference of one- and two-loop contributions with the latter being dominated by virtual staus.  相似文献
