We prove local a priori estimates inL p , 1<p<∞, for first-order linear operators that satisfy the Nirenberg-Treves condition (p) and whose coefficients have Lipschitz continuous derivatives of order one. When the number of variables is two, only Lipschitz continuity of the coefficients is assumed. This extends toL p spaces estimates that were previously known forp=2. Examples show that the regularity required from the coefficients is essentially minimal. Research partially supported by CNPq.  相似文献

Abstract

Proposed by Tibshirani, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) estimates a vector of regression coefficients by minimizing the residual sum of squares subject to a constraint on the l 1-norm of the coefficient vector. The LASSO estimator typically has one or more zero elements and thus shares characteristics of both shrinkage estimation and variable selection. In this article we treat the LASSO as a convex programming problem and derive its dual. Consideration of the primal and dual problems together leads to important new insights into the characteristics of the LASSO estimator and to an improved method for estimating its covariance matrix. Using these results we also develop an efficient algorithm for computing LASSO estimates which is usable even in cases where the number of regressors exceeds the number of observations. An S-Plus library based on this algorithm is available from StatLib.  相似文献

We derive residual‐based a posteriori error estimates of finite element method for linear wave equation with discontinuous coefficients in a two‐dimensional convex polygonal domain. A posteriori error estimates for both the space‐discrete case and for implicit fully discrete scheme are discussed in L(L2) norm. The main ingredients used in deriving a posteriori estimates are new Clément type interpolation estimates in conjunction with appropriate adaption of the elliptic reconstruction technique of continuous and discrete solutions. We use only an energy argument to establish a posteriori error estimates with optimal order convergence in the L(L2) norm.  相似文献

Let a connected undirected graph G  =  (V, E) be given. In the classical p-median problem we want to find a set X containing p points in G such that the sum of weighted distances from X to all vertices in V is minimized. We consider the semi-obnoxious case where every vertex has either a positive or negative weight. In this case we have two different objective functions: the sum of the minimum weighted distances from X to all vertices and the sum of the weighted minimum distances. In this paper we show that for the case p = 3 an optimal solution for the second model in a tree can be found in O(n 5) time. If the 3-median is restricted to vertices or if the tree is a path then the complexity can be reduced to O(n 3). Let be the uniform triangulation generated by the usual three directional mesh of the plane and let H 1 be the regular hexagon formed by the six triangles of surrounding the origin. We study the space of piecewise polynomial functions in C k (R 2) with support H 1 having a sufficiently high degree n, which are invariant with respect to the group of symmetries of H 1 and whose sum of integer translates is constant. Such splines are called H 1-splines. We first compute the dimension of this space in function of n and k. Then we prove the existence of a unique H 1-spline of minimal degree for any fixed k0. Finally, we describe an algorithm computing the Bernstein–Bézier coefficients of this spline.  相似文献

The FFT‐based homogenization method of Moulinec–Suquet has recently attracted attention because of its wide range of applicability and short computational time. In this article, we deduce an optimal a priori error estimate for the homogenization method of Moulinec–Suquet, which can be interpreted as a spectral collocation method. Such methods are well‐known to converge for sufficiently smooth coefficients. We extend this result to rough coefficients. More precisely, we prove convergence of the fields involved for Riemann‐integrable coercive coefficients without the need for an a priori regularization. We show that our L2 estimates are optimal and extend to mildly nonlinear situations and Lp estimates for p in the vicinity of 2. The results carry over to the case of scalar elliptic and curl ? curl‐type equations, encountered, for instance, in stationary electromagnetism. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to establish interior and global L p -type estimates for the solutions of Maxwell's equations with source term in a domain filled with two different materials separated by a 2 interface. The usual elliptic estimates cannot be applied directly, due to the singularity of the dielectric permittivity. A special curl-div decomposition is introduced for the electric field to reduce the problem to an elliptic equation in divergence form with jump coefficients. The potential analysis and the jump condition lead to the interior L p estimates which are superior to the straightforward Nash-Moser estimates. The reduction procedure is expected to be useful for future numerical simulation. Because of the natural physical requirements, the boundary condition is nonlocal and involves a first order pseudo-differential operator, the boundary estimate is established by delicate new maximum principles and Riesz convexity arguments. These estimates are then employed to solve a nonlinear optics problem that arises in the modeling of surface enhanced second-harmonic generation of nonlinear diffractive optics in periodic structures (gratings).  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain the global regularity estimates in Orlicz spaces for second‐order divergence elliptic and parabolic equations with BMO coefficients in the whole space. We derive interior L p -estimates for solutions of linear elliptic systems with oscillatory coefficients. The estimates are independent of ε, the small length scale of the rapid oscillations. So far, such results are based on potential theory and restricted to periodic coefficients. Our approach relies on BMO-estimates and an interpolation argument, gradients are treated with the help of finite differences. This allows to treat coefficients that depend on a fast and a slow variable. The estimates imply an L p -corrector result for approximate solutions.   相似文献

We establish uniform Lipschitz estimates for second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating, almost‐periodic coefficients. We give interior estimates as well as estimates up to the boundary in bounded C1,α domains with either Dirichlet or Neumann data. The main results extend those in the periodic setting due to Avellaneda and Lin for interior and Dirichlet boundary estimates and later Kenig, Lin, and Shen for the Neumann boundary conditions. In contrast to these papers, our arguments are constructive (and thus the constants are in principle computable) and the results for the Neumann conditions are new even in the periodic setting, since we can treat nonsymmetric coefficients. Wave packet techniques provide an effective method for proving Strichartz estimates on solutions to wave equations whose coefficients are not smooth. We use such methods to show that the existing results for C 1, 1 and C 1, α coefficients can be improved when the coefficients of the wave operator lie in a Sobolev space of sufficiently high order.  相似文献

This paper contains two results. The first establishes, under mild assumptions, the validity of an Edgeworth expansion with remaindero(N –1/2) for aU-statistic with a kernel of degree two using observations from anm-dependent shift. The second result gives a necessary and sufficient condition for the distribution of a sum ofm-dependent random variables to possess an Edgeworth expansion. We consider aM X/G/1 queueing system withN-policy. The server is turned off as soon as the system empties. When the queue length reaches or exceeds a predetermined valueN (threshold), the server is turned on and begins to serve the customers. We place our emphasis on understanding the operational characteristics of the queueing system. One of our findings is that the system size is the sum of two independent random variables: one has thePGF of the stationary system size of theM X/G/1 queueing system withoutN-policy and the other one has the probability generating function j=0 N=1 j z j/ j=0 N=1 j , in which j is the probability that the system state stays atj before reaching or exceedingN during an idle period. Using this interpretation of the system size distribution, we determine the optimal thresholdN under a linear cost structure.  相似文献

Recently, active research has been performed on constructing t-designs from linear codes over Z 4. In this paper, we will construct a new simple 3 – (2 m , 7, 14/3 (2 m – 8)) design from codewords of Hamming weight 7 in the Z 4-Goethals code for odd m 5. For 3 arbitrary positions, we will count the number of codewords of Hamming weight 7 whose support includes those 3 positions. This counting can be simplified by using the double-transitivity of the Goethals code and divided into small cases. It turns out interestingly that, in almost all cases, this count is related to the value of a Kloosterman sum. As a result, we can also prove a new Kloosterman sum identity while deriving the 3-design.  相似文献

We prove an extrapolation theorem for the nonlinear m-term approximation with respect to a system of functions satisfying very mild conditions. This theorem allows us to prove endpoint Lp-Lq estimates in nonlinear approximation. As a consequence, some known endpoint estimates can be deduced directly and some new estimates are also obtained. Finally, applications of these new estimates are given to spherical m-widths and m-term approximation of the weighted Besov classes.  相似文献

Some solution, final in a sense from the standpoint of the theory of Sobolev spaces, is obtained to the problem of regularity of solutions to a system of (generally) nonlinear partial differential equations in the case when the system is locally close to elliptic systems of linear equations with constant coefficients. The main consequences of this result are Theorems 5 and 8. According to the first of them, the higher derivatives of an elliptic C l -smooth solution to a system of lth-order nonlinear partial differential equations constructed from C l -smooth functions meet the local Hoelder condition with every exponent , 0<<1. Theorem 8 claims that if a system of linear partial differential equations of order l with measurable coefficients and right-hand sides is uniformly elliptic then, under the hypothesis of a (sufficiently) slow variation of its leading coefficients, the degree of local integrability of lth-order partial derivatives of every W l q,loc-solution, q>1, to the system coincides with the degree of local integrability of lower coefficients and right-hand sides.  相似文献
