Copper-catalyzed trifluoromethylation of aryl iodides with potassium (trifluoromethyl)trimethoxyborate

Potassium (trifluoromethyl)trimethoxyborate is introduced as a new source of CF(3) nucleophiles in copper-catalyzed trifluoromethylation reactions. The crystalline salt is stable on storage, easy to handle, and can be obtained in near-quantitative yields simply by mixing B(OMe)(3), CF(3)SiMe(3), and KF. The trifluoromethylation reagent allows the conversion of various aryl iodides into the corresponding benzotrifluorides in high yields under mild, base-free conditions in the presence of catalytic quantities of a Cu(I)/1,10-phenanthroline complex.     

BiCl3‐catalyzed carbon‒carbon cross‐coupling of organoboronic acids with aryl iodides

A procedure for BiCl₃‐catalyzed carbon‐carbon cross‐coupling reaction of organoboronic acids with aryl iodides is described. This protocol has a wide substrate scope and uses an inexpensive and non‐toxic catalyst. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Synthesis of heterobiaryls via Suzuki‐Miyaura coupling reaction of potassium aryltrifluoroborates with heteroaryl halides in aqueous systems

A variety of heterobiaryl compounds have been synthesized by the Suzuki‐Miyaura coupling reactions of heteroaryl halides with potassium aryltrifluoroborates. Pd (OAc)₂ was found to be highly efficient for the Suzuki‐Miyaura coupling reactions of various heteroaryl halides with potassium aryltrifluoroborates in aqueous systems, delivering the corresponding heterobiaryl compounds in good to excellent yields.     

A new, environment friendly protocol for iodination of electron-rich aromatic compounds

A new environment friendly procedure for effective aromatic iodination is presented. A mixture of potassium iodide and potassium iodate is used in the presence of an acid for in situ iodination of aromatic compounds.     

Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative couplings of arenecarboxylic acids with aryl iodides

The combination of palladium chloride with BINAP shows high efficiency in the decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions of arenecarboxylic acids with aryl iodides. The reactions proceed smoothly to generate the corresponding biaryl compounds in good to excellent yields.

Efficient Method for Iodination of Alcohols using KI/Silica Sulfuric Acid (SSA)

A straightforward and effective procedure for the conversion of benzylic and allylic alcohols to the corresponding iodides using KI/SSA in acetonitrile at room temperature.     

Cross-coupling of aryl iodides with paramagnetic terminal acetylenes derived from 4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-imidazoline-1-oxyl 3-oxide

2-(Arylylethynylphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-imidazoline-1-oxyl 3-oxides 12 and 13 were synthesized by cross-coupling of aryl iodides with 1-alkynes containing the 4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-imidazoline-1-oxyl 3-oxide fragment. A procedure was developed for the preparation of 3- and 4-ethynylbenzaldehydes with the use of 2-methylbut-3-yn-2-ol.     

A general rhodium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of thiols with aryl iodides

The general procedure for the rhodium-catalyzed cross-coupling of thiols with aryl iodides is described. The catalytic system consists of 5 mol % of [RhCl(cod)]₂ and 10 mol % of PPh₃ as a ligand. A variety of aryl iodides reacted with thiols, giving aryl thioethers in good to excellent yields. It is important to note that the deactivated aryl iodides such as 4-iodoanisole is worked smoothly to provide the corresponding aryl thioethers in excellent yields. Functional groups such as free-amines, chloro, are all tolerated under the employed reaction conditions.     

Palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplings of aryl tosylates with potassium aryltrifluoroborates

Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of aryl tosylates with potassium aryl trifluoroborate in the presence of bulky and electron-rich phosphine ligand is described. In addition, a useful chemoselective coupling of an aryl chloride in the presence of a tosyloxy group was demonstrated.     

Copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl iodides and aryl acetylenes using microwave heating

An efficient copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl iodides with aryl acetylenes under microwave irradiation is described. The reaction proceeds under microwave heating with 10 mol % CuI and 2 equiv Cs₂CO₃ in 43-87% yields.     

Nickel-catalyzed decarboxylative coupling of an alkynyl carboxylic acid with aryl iodides

A decarboxylative coupling reaction with an alkynyl carboxylic acid and aryl iodides in the presence of a nickel catalyst was developed. When the reaction was conducted with NiCl₂ (10 mol%), Xantphos (15 mol%), Mn (1.0 equiv), and Cs₂CO₃ (1.5 equiv), the desired diaryl alkynes were formed in moderated to good yields. Furthermore, this method does not produce the diyne, which is formed in the homocoupling of alkynyl carboxylic acids.     

CuI/PPh3‐catalyzed Sonogashira coupling reaction of aryl iodides with terminal alkynes in water in the absence of palladium

The Sonogashira cross‐coupling of aryl iodides with terminal alkynes catalyzed by a simple and inexpensive catalyst system of CuI/PPh₃ in water as the sole solvent has been reported. In the presence of CuI/PPh₃, with KOH used as a base, a number of aryl iodides were treated with alkynes to afford the corresponding products in moderate to excellent yields. Rhodium-catalyzed triarylphosphine synthesis via cross-coupling of aryl iodides and acylphosphines

Rhodium(I)-catalyzed C–P cross-coupling reaction with aryl iodides and acylphosphines was disclosed for a straight forward synthesis of triarylphosphines. The acylphosphines were successfully employed as both the phosphorus source and the ligand to the Rh(I) catalyst. The triarylphosphines could be afforded in a yield up to 98% with good toleration of wide functional groups.     

A facile one-pot preparation of potassium hydroxyaryl- and (hydroxyalkyl)aryltrifluoroborates

Potassium hydroxyaryl- and (hydroxyalkyl)aryltrifluoroborates have been prepared in a simple one-pot process from the corresponding hydroxy-substituted aryl halides in 51-98% yields through an in situ protection of the free hydroxyl group with t-BuLi. Also, we successfully performed a microwave-promoted Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of these substrates with aryl- and alkenyl bromides in the presence of 0.5 mol % of Pd(OAc)2 catalyst without ligands.     

Palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of aryl iodides using aqueous ammonia

Aminocarbonylation of aromatic iodides using aqueous ammonia in toluene has been developed. Various primary aromatic amides have been efficiently synthesized in good to excellent yields in the presence of catalytic quantities of Pd(OAc)₂/CYTOP®292. The usage of aqueous ammonia avoids the handling of two gases in the reaction.     

Copper(I)-catalyzed arylselenylation of aryl bromides and iodides

A new protocol to prepare unsymmetrical diarylselenides using the reaction of aryl bromides and iodides with easily available Bu₃SnSeAr catalyzed by Cu(I) complexes under rather mild conditions and with a very high yield is described.     

An alternative approach for the synthesis of aryl-alkyl tellurides: reaction of aryl iodides with metal alkyltellurolates promoted by CuI

Aryl iodides react with metal organotellurolates in tetrahydrofuran/dimethylformamide in the presence of CuI (5 mol %) or CuI (5 mol %) and 1,10-phenanthroline (10 mol %) to afford the corresponding aryl-alkyl tellurides in good yields.
