The electronic structure of CO3 is characterized by equation-of-motion and coupled-cluster methods. C(2v) and D(3h) isomers are considered. Vertical excitation energies, transition dipoles, and the molecular orbital character of the excited states are presented for singlet and triplet manifolds. Ground-state equilibrium structures and frequencies are strongly affected by vibronic interactions with low-lying excited states. At D(3h) geometries, the vibronic interactions are enhanced by the Jahn-Teller character of the excited states. The curvature of the potential energy surface and the existence of the D(3h) minimum are very sensitive to the correlation treatment and the basis set. The correlation effects are stronger at D(3h), in agreement with a smaller HOMO-LUMO gap.  相似文献

The singlet and triplet state potential energy surfaces (PES) of Fe2(CO)8 are explored by means of density functional theory (DFT) techniques. The two PES have different global mimima: the dibriged C(2v) isomer for the singlet and the unbridged D(2d) isomer for the triplet. The sign of the energy gap between singlet and triplet global minima depends on the type of adopted DFT functional: hybrid functionals predict the triplet is more stable than the singlet, but the opposite applies to generalized gradient approximated (GGA) functionals. The analysis of the computed CO stretching frequencies demonstrates that the experimental data for the unbridged form is compatible also with the unbridged triplet D(2d) isomer. Starting from these two facts, the electronic structure of unbridged D(2d) Fe2(CO)8 is discussed herein. Single-point energy computations at the coupled-cluster single and double (CCSD) level favor the D(2d) triplet state.  相似文献

Singlet ground-state geometry optimization of the monomer, four dimers, and the trimer of [Pt(bph)(CO)(2)], where bph = biphenyl dianion, was performed at the B3LYP level of density functional theory (DFT) with a mixed basis set (6-311G** on C, O, and H atoms; the Stuttgart/Dresden (SDD) effective core potential (ECP) on the Pt core; [6s5p3d] on the Pt valence shell). The aggregation was based on Pt[bond]Pt binding as well as on pi[bond]pi and electrostatic interactions. The lowest-lying triplet-state geometries of the monomer, one dimer, and the trimer of the complex were also optimized using the above theory. Significant shortening of the Pt[bond]Pt bond was recorded in the triplet state compared to the singlet one. A number of low-energy singlet and triplet allowed excited states were calculated using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) and analyzed with respect to absorption, excitation, and emission spectra collected under various conditions. Simulated spectra of the monomer and dimer based on the singlet excited states were correlated with the absorption spectrum. The emission in concentrated solution was due to the triplet dimer, and the emitting states were (3)MLCT and Pt-centered states.  相似文献

In this article, the influence of the tert‐butyl unit on the photodeactivation pathways of Pt[O^N^C^N] (O^N^C^N=2‐(4‐(3,5‐di‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐6‐(3‐(pyridin‐2‐l)phenyl) pyridin‐2‐yl)phenolate) is investigated by DFT/TDDFT calculations. To further explore the factors that determine the radiative processes, the transition dipole moments of the singlet excited states, spin–orbit coupling (SOC) matrix elements, and energy gaps between the lowest triplet excited states and singlet excited states are calculated. As demonstrated by the results, compared with Pt‐3 , Pt‐1 and Pt‐2 have larger SOC matrix elements between the lowest triplet excited states and singlet excited states, an indicator that they have faster radiative decay processes. In addition, the SOC matrix elements between the lowest triplet excited states and ground states are also computed to elucidate the temperature‐independent non‐radiative decay processes. Moreover, the temperature‐dependent non‐radiative decay mechanisms are also explored via the potential energy profiles.  相似文献

Quantum chemical calculations were carried out to study the reaction of carbon monoxide with molecular oxygen in the ground triplet and singlet delta states. Transition states and intermediates that connect the reactants with products of the reaction on the triplet and singlet potential energy surfaces were identified on the base of coupled-cluster method. The values of energy barriers were refined by using compound techniques such as CBS-Q, CBS-QB3, and G3. The calculations showed that there exists an intersection of triplet and singlet potential energy surfaces. This fact leads to the appearance of two channels for the triplet CO+O(2)(X(3)Σ(g)(-)) reaction, which produces atomic oxygen in the ground O((3)P) and excited O((1)D) states. The appropriate rate constants of all reaction paths were estimated on the base of nonvariational transition-state theory. It was found that the singlet reaction rate constant is much greater than the triplet one and that the reaction channel CO+O(2)(a(1)Δ(g)) should be taken into consideration to interpret the experimental data on the oxidation of CO by molecular oxygen.  相似文献

NF (nitrogen monofluoride, fluoroimidogen) is isoelectronic with O2, and, like O2, it has a triplet configuration in the ground state, with two low-lying metastable singlet excited states. The dipole moment of the a 1Delta excited state was measured in 1973 to be 0.37 +/- 0.06 D; at the time its polarity was assumed to be normal (i.e., with the negative charge on the fluorine). However, high-level electronic structure calculations, which reproduce with high accuracy the known spectroscopic constants of the ground and excited states of NF, predict a dipole moment of -0.388 D for a 1Delta NF, indicating that, despite the electronegativities, this molecule carries a positive charge on fluorine. The other singlet state is predicted to have an even larger negative dipole moment; the ground-state triplet should have a very small positive moment. Singlet NF resembles in this respect CO and BF, from the N2 isoelectronic series, both of which also have negative dipole moments.  相似文献

Extensive time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) and DFT/multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) calculations are performed on the singlet and triplet excited states of free-base porphyrin, with emphasis on intersystem crossing processes. The equilibrium geometries, as well as the vertical and adiabatic excitation energies of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states are determined. Single and double proton-transfer reactions in the first excited singlet state are explored. Harmonic vibrational frequencies are calculated at the equilibrium geometries of the ground state and of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states. Furthermore, spin–orbit coupling matrix elements of the lowest singlet and triplet states and their numerical derivatives with respect to nuclear displacements are computed. It is shown that opening of an unprotonated pyrrole ring as well as excited-state single and double proton transfer inside the porphyrin cavity lead to crossings of the potential energy curves of the lowest singlet and triplet excited states. It is also found that displacements along out-of-plane normal modes of the first excited singlet state cause a significant increase of the 2|Hso|S1>, 1|Hso|S1>, and 1|Hso|S0> spin–orbit coupling matrix elements. These phenomena lead to efficient radiationless deactivation of the lowest excited states of free-base porphyrin via intercombination conversion. In particular, the S1→T1 population transfer is found to proceed at a rate of ≈107 s−1 in the isolated molecule.  相似文献

A series of four photodissociable Ru polypyridyl complexes of general formula [Ru(bpy)2L2](2+), where bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine and L = 4-aminopyridine (1), pyridine (2), butylamine (3), and gamma-aminobutyric acid (4), was studied by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). DFT calculations (B3LYP/LanL2DZ) were able to predict and elucidate singlet and triplet excited-state properties of 1-4 and describe the photodissociation mechanism of one monodentate ligand. All derivatives display a Ru --> bpy metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption band in the visible spectrum and a corresponding emitting triplet (3)MLCT state (Ru --> bpy). 1-4 have three singlet metal-centered (MC) states 0.4 eV above the major (1)MLCT states. The energy gap between the MC states and lower-energy MLCT states is significantly diminished by intersystem crossing and consequent triplet formation. Relaxed potential energy surface scans along the Ru-L stretching coordinate were performed on singlet and triplet excited states for all derivatives employing DFT and TDDFT. Excited-state evolution along the reaction coordinate allowed identification and characterization of the triplet state responsible for the photodissociation process in 1-4; moreover, calculation showed that no singlet state is able to cause dissociation of monodentate ligands. Two antibonding MC orbitals contribute to the (3)MC state responsible for the release of one of the two monodentate ligands in each complex. Comparison of theoretical triplet excited-state energy diagrams from TDDFT and unrestricted Kohn-Sham data reveals the experimental photodissociation yields as well as other structural and spectroscopic features.  相似文献

In the present work the electronic spectra of [PtCl(4)](2-), [PtBr(4)](2-), and [Pt(CN)(4)](2-) are studied with a recently proposed relativistic time-dependent density-functional theory (TDDFT) based on the two-component zeroth-order regular approximation and a noncollinear exchange-correlation (XC) functional. The contribution to the double group excited states in terms of singlet and triplet single group excited states is estimated through the inner product of the transition density matrix obtained from two-component and scalar relativistic TDDFT calculations to better understand the double group excited states. Spin-orbital coupling effects are found to be very important in order to simulate the electronic spectra of these complexes. The results show that the two-component TDDFT formalism can afford excitation energies with high accuracy for the transition-metal systems studied here when use is made of a proper XC potential.  相似文献

Large basis CCSD(T) calculations are used to calculate the energetics of 3Fe(CO)4, 1Fe(CO)4 and 1Fe(CO)4(L), L = Xe, CH4, H2 and CO. . The relative energy of the excited singlet state of Fe(CO)4 with respect to the ground triplet state is not known experimentally, and various lower levels of theory predict very different results. Upon extrapolating to the infinite basis set limit, and including corrections for core-core and core-valence correlation, scalar relativity, and multi-reference character of the wavefunction, the best CCSD(T) estimate for the spin-state splitting in iron tetracarbonyl is 2 kcal mol(-1). Calculation of the dissociation energy of 1Fe(CO)4(L) into singlet fragments, taken together with known experimental behaviour of triplet Fe(CO)4, provides independent evidence for the fact that the spin-state splitting is smaller than 3 kcal mol(-1). These calculations highlight some of the challenges involved in benchmark calculations on transition metal containing systems.  相似文献

Upon irradiation with ultraviolet wavelengths, Fe2(S2C3H6)(CO)6, a simple model of the [FeFe]‐hydrogenase active site, undergoes CO dissociation to form the unsaturated Fe2(S2C3H6)(CO)5 species and successively a solvent adduct at the vacant coordination site. In the present work, the CO‐photolysis of Fe2(S2C3H6)(CO)6 was investigated by density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT (TDDFT). Trans Fe2(S2C3H6)(CO)5 form and the corresponding trans heptane or acetonitrile solvent adducts are the lowest energy ground state forms. CO dissociation barriers computed for the lowest triplet state are roughly halved with respect to those for the ground state suggesting that some low‐lying excited potential energy surface (PES) could be loosely bound with respect to Fe? C bond cleavage. The TDDFT excited state PESs and geometry optimizations for the excited states likely involved in the CO‐photolysis suggest that the Fe? S bond elongation and the partial isomerization toward the rotated form could take place simultaneously, favoring the trans CO photodissociation. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

In the present work we have proposed an approximate time-dependent density-functional theory (TDDFT) formalism to deal with the influence of spin-orbit coupling effect on the excitation energies for closed-shell systems. In this formalism scalar relativistic TDDFT calculations are first performed to determine the lowest single-group excited states and the spin-orbit coupling operator is applied to these single-group excited states to obtain the excitation energies with spin-orbit coupling effects included. The computational effort of the present method is much smaller than that of the two-component TDDFT formalism and this method can be applied to medium-size systems containing heavy elements. The compositions of the double-group excited states in terms of single-group singlet and triplet excited states are obtained automatically from the calculations. The calculated excitation energies based on the present formalism show that this formalism affords reasonable excitation energies for transitions not involving 5p and 6p orbitals. For transitions involving 5p orbitals, one can still obtain acceptable results for excitations with a small truncation error, while the formalism will fail for transitions involving 6p orbitals, especially 6p1/2 spinors.  相似文献

Both steady state and time resolved spectroscopic measurements reveal that the prime process involved in quenching mechanism of the lowest excited singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) states of the well known electron acceptor 9-Cyanoanthracene (9CNA) in presence of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1-naphthol (TH1N) or 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-naphthol (TH2N) is H-bonding interaction. It has been confirmed that the fluorescence of 9CNA is not at all affected in presence of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-methoxy naphthalene (TH2MN) both in non-polar n-heptane (NH) and highly polar acetonitrile (ACN) media. This indicates that the H-bonding interaction is crucial for the occurrence of the quenching phenomenon observed in the present investigations with TH1N (or TH2N) donors and 9CNA acceptor. In ACN solvent both contact ion-pair (CIP) and solvent-separated (or dissociated) ions are formed due to intermolecular H-bonding interactions in the excited electronic states (both singlet and triplet). In NH environment due to stronger H-bonding interactions, the large proton shift within excited charge transfer (CT) or ion-pair complex, 1 or 3(D+-H...A-), causes the formation of the neutral radical, 3(D+H-A)*, due to the complete detachment of the H-atom. It is hinted that both TH1N and TH2N due to their excellent H-bonding ability could be used as antioxidants.  相似文献

Atomic carbon, a reactive intermediate abundant in the interstellar medium (ISM) can participate in various energetically demanding reactions in its extremely long living (69 min) first excited singlet state ((1)D). Several studies on reactions of oxygen containing species with carbon atoms have been reported, however mechanistic details of the title reaction remain obscure. We report here quantum chemical studies on reactions of methanol with (3)P and (1)D carbon atoms at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ level of theory, with which experimentally well known facile CO production, intermolecular acetaldehyde formation, and intermolecular dimethoxymethane production mechanisms are explained. Energetics of the fragmentation, O-H insertion, C-H insertion, and O-C insertion channels on the triplet and singlet surfaces are studied. The CO production mechanism by C ((1)D) is identified as an oxygen abstraction and a triplet PES seems non-operative. Presenting novel features for the intermolecular reaction channels, current findings may be applicable to C + ROR reactions.  相似文献

The equilibrium geometries, thermochemistry, and vibrational frequencies of the homoleptic metal-carbonyls of the group 4 elements, M(CO)n (M = Ti, Zr, Hf; n = 7, 6, 5, 4) were predicted using density functional theory. Analogous M(CO)n structures were found for all three metals. The global minima for the 18-electron M(CO)7 molecules are all singlet C(3v) capped octahedra. The global minima for the 16-electron M(CO)6 species are triplet M(CO)6 structures distorted from O(h) symmetry to D(3d) symmetry. However, the corresponding singlet M(CO)6 structures lie within 5 kcal/mol of the triplet global minima. The global minima for M(CO)n (n = 5, 4) are triplet structures derived from the D(3d) distorted octahedral structures of M(CO)6 by removal of one or two CO groups, respectively. Quintet D(3h) trigonal bipyramidal structures for M(CO)5 and singlet T(d) tetrahedral structures for M(CO)4 are also found, as well as higher energy structures for M(CO)6 and M(CO)7 containing a unique CO group bonded to the metal atom through both M-C and M-O bonds. The dissociation energies M(CO)7 --> M(CO)6 + CO are substantial, indicating no fundamental problem in bonding seven CO groups to a single metal atom.  相似文献

We present a combined density functional theory (DFT)/time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) study of the geometry, electronic structure, and absorption and emission properties of the tetranuclear "cubane" Cu4I4py4 (py = pyridine) system. The geometry of the singlet ground state and of the two lowest triplet states of the title complex were optimized, followed by TDDFT excited-state calculations. This procedure allowed us to characterize the nature of the excited states involved in the absorption spectrum and those responsible for the dual emission bands observed for this complex. In agreement with earlier experimental proposals, we find that while in absorption the halide-to-pyridine charge-transfer excited state (XLCT*) has a lower energy than the cluster-centered excited state (CC*), a strong geometrical relaxation on the triplet cluster-centered state surface leads to a reverse order of the excited states in emission.  相似文献

The structures and energetics of the experimentally known Os(CO)n ( n = 3-5), Os2(CO)9, and Os2(CO)8 have been investigated using density functional theory. For Os(CO)5, the lowest-energy structure is the singlet D(3h) trigonal bipyramid. However, the C(4v) square pyramid for Os(CO)5 lies only approximately 1.5 kcal/mol higher in energy, suggesting extraordinary fluxionality. For the coordinatively unsaturated Os(CO)4 and Os(CO)3, a D(2d) strongly distorted tetrahedral structure and a Cs bent T-shaped structure are the lowest-energy structures, respectively. For Os2(CO)9, the experimentally observed singly bridged Os2(CO)8(mu-CO) structure is the lowest-energy structure. A triply bridged Os2(CO)6(mu-CO)3 structure analogous to the known Fe2(CO)9 structure is a transition state rather than a true minimum and collapses to the singly bridged global minimum structure upon following the corresponding normal mode. An unbridged (OC)5Os --> Os(CO)4 structure with a formal Os --> Os dative bond analogous to known stable complexes of the type (R3P)2(OC)3Os --> W(CO)5 is also found for Os2(CO)9 within 8 kcal/mol of the global minimum. The global minimum for the coordinatively unsaturated Os2(CO)8 is a singly bridged (OC)4Os(mu-CO)Os(CO)3 structure derived from the Os2(CO)9 global minimum by loss of a terminal carbonyl group. However, the unbridged structure for Os2(CO)8 observed in low-temperature matrix experiments lies only approximately 1 kcal/mol above this global minimum. In all cases, the triplet structures for these osmium carbonyls have significantly higher energies than the corresponding singlet structures.  相似文献

The spectroscopy and metastability of the carbon dioxide doubly charged ion, the CO(2) (2+) dication, have been studied with photoionization experiments: time-of-flight photoelectron photoelectron coincidence (TOF-PEPECO), threshold photoelectrons coincidence (TPEsCO), and threshold photoelectrons and ion coincidence (TPEsCO ion coincidence) spectroscopies. Vibrational structure is observed in TOF-PEPECO and TPEsCO spectra of the ground and first two excited states. The vibrational structure is dominated by the symmetric stretch except in the TPEsCO spectrum of the ground state where an antisymmetric stretch progression is observed. All three vibrational frequencies are deduced for the ground state and symmetric stretch and bending frequencies are deduced for the first two excited states. Some vibrational structure of higher electronic states is also observed. The threshold for double ionization of carbon dioxide is reported as 37.340+/-0.010 eV. The fragmentation of energy selected CO(2) (2+) ions has been investigated with TPEsCO ion coincidence spectroscopy. A band of metastable states from approximately 38.7 to approximately 41 eV above the ground state of neutral CO(2) has been observed in the experimental time window of approximately 0.1-2.3 mus with a tendency towards shorter lifetimes at higher energies. It is proposed that the metastability is due to slow spin forbidden conversion from bound excited singlet states to unbound continuum states of the triplet ground state. Another result of this investigation is the observation of CO(+)+O(+) formation in indirect dissociative double photoionization below the threshold for formation of CO(2) (2+). The threshold for CO(+)+O(+) formation is found to be 35.56+/-0.10 eV or lower, which is more than 2 eV lower than previous measurements.  相似文献

The energetics, structures, stabilities and reactivities of[CnH2]2+ ions have been investigated using computational methods and experimental mass spectrometric techniques. Spontaneous decompositions of [CnH2]2+ into [CnH]+ + H+ products, observed for ions with odd-n values, have been explained by invoking the formation of excited triplet states. Even-n [CnH]+ ions possess triplet ground states with low-lying excited states, whereas odd-n ions have triplet states with energies several eV above ground singlet states. Radiationless transitions of vibrationally excited long-lived triplet state ions into singlet state continua are suggested as possible mechanisms for spontaneous deprotonation processes of odd-n [CnH2]2+ ions. Evidence for these long-lived excited states has been obtained in bimolecular single electron transfer reactions.  相似文献

We have analyzed singlet and triplet excitation energies in oligothiophenes (up to five rings) using time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) with different exchange-correlation functionals and compared them with results from the approximate coupled-cluster singles and doubles model (CC2) and experimental data. The excitation energies have been calculated in geometries obtained by TD-DFT optimization of the lowest excited singlet state and in the ground-state geometries of the neutral and anionic systems. TD-DFT methods underestimate photoluminescence energies but the energy difference between singlet and triplet states shows trends with the chain-length similar to CC2. We find that the second triplet excited state is below the first singlet excited state for long oligomers in contrast with the previous assignment of Rentsch et al. (Phys.Chem. Chem. Phys. 1999, 1, 1707). Their photodetachment photoelectron spectroscopy measurements are better described by considering higher triplet excited states.  相似文献
