Surveillance applications require a collection of heterogeneous vehicles to visit a set of targets. We consider a fundamental routing problem that arises in these applications involving two vehicles. Specifically, we consider a routing problem where there are two heterogeneous vehicles that start from distinct initial locations and a set of targets. The objective is to find a tour for each vehicle such that each of the targets is visited at least once by a vehicle and the sum of the distances traveled by the vehicles is minimal. We consider an important special case of this routing problem where the travel costs satisfy the triangle inequality and the following monotonicity property: the first vehicle’s cost of traveling between any two targets is at most equal to the second vehicle’s cost of traveling between the same targets. We present a primal-dual algorithm for this case that provides an approximation ratio of 2.  相似文献

The integration of scheduling workers to perform tasks with the traditional vehicle routing problem gives rise to the workforce scheduling and routing problems (WSRP). In the WSRP, a number of service technicians with different skills, and tasks at different locations with pre-defined time windows and skill requirements are given. It is required to find an assignment and ordering of technicians to tasks, where each task is performed within its time window by a technician with the required skill, for which the total cost of the routing is minimized. This paper describes an iterated local search (ILS) algorithm for the WSRP. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated on benchmark instances against an off-the-shelf optimizer and an existing adaptive large neighbourhood search algorithm. The proposed ILS algorithm is also applied to solve the skill vehicle routing problem, which can be viewed as a special case of the WSRP. The computational results indicate that the proposed algorithm can produce high-quality solutions in short computation times.  相似文献

The period vehicle routing problem is a multilevel problem assembling two classical problems: the assignment problem and the vehicle routing problem. Collection days have to be assigned to each customer and vehicle routes have to be designed for each day of the period (time horizon) so that the total distribution cost is minimised. The interaction between the temporal and spatial aspects turns the problem into one of the most challenging variations of vehicle routing. In this paper, we present the study of a real period vehicle routing system: the collection of recycling paper containers in the City Council of Almada, Portugal.  相似文献

This paper describes an exact algorithm for solving a problem where the same vehicle performs several routes to serve a set of customers with time windows. The motivation comes from the home delivery of perishable goods, where vehicle routes are short and must be combined to form a working day. A method based on an elementary shortest path algorithm with resource constraints is proposed to solve this problem. The method is divided into two phases: in the first phase, all non-dominated feasible routes are generated; in the second phase, some routes are selected and sequenced to form the vehicle workday. Computational results are reported on Euclidean problems derived from benchmark instances of the classical vehicle routing problem with time windows.  相似文献

This paper considers a real world waste collection problem in which glass, metal, plastics, or paper is brought to certain waste collection points by the citizens of a certain region. The collection of this waste from the collection points is therefore a node routing problem. The waste is delivered to special sites, so called intermediate facilities (IF), that are typically not identical with the vehicle depot. Since most waste collection points need not be visited every day, a planning period of several days has to be considered. In this context three related planning problems are considered. First, the periodic vehicle routing problem with intermediate facilities (PVRP-IF) is considered and an exact problem formulation is proposed. A set of benchmark instances is developed and an efficient hybrid solution method based on variable neighborhood search and dynamic programming is presented. Second, in a real world application the PVRP-IF is modified by permitting the return of partly loaded vehicles to the depots and by considering capacity limits at the IF. An average improvement of 25% in the routing cost is obtained compared to the current solution. Finally, a different but related problem, the so called multi-depot vehicle routing problem with inter-depot routes (MDVRPI) is considered. In this problem class just a single day is considered and the depots can act as an intermediate facility only at the end of a tour. For this problem several instances and benchmark solutions are available. It is shown that the algorithm outperforms all previously published metaheuristics for this problem class and finds the best solutions for all available benchmark instances.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a periodic vehicle routing problem that includes, in addition to the classical constraints, the possibility of a vehicle doing more than one route per day, as long as the maximum daily operation time for the vehicle is not exceeded. In addition, some constraints relating to accessibility of the vehicles to the customers, in the sense that not every vehicle can visit every customer, must be observed. We refer to the problem we consider here as the site-dependent multi-trip periodic vehicle routing problem. An algorithm based on tabu search is presented for the problem and computational results presented on randomly generated test problems that are made publicly available. Our algorithm is also tested on a number of routing problems from the literature that constitute particular cases of the proposed problem. Specifically we consider the periodic vehicle routing problem; the site-dependent vehicle routing problem; the multi-trip vehicle routing problem; and the classical vehicle routing problem. Computational results for our tabu search algorithm on test problems taken from the literature for all of these problems are presented.  相似文献

This paper describes a novel tabu search heuristic for the multi-trip vehicle routing and scheduling problem (MTVRSP). The method was developed to tackle real distribution problems, taking into account most of the constraints that appear in practice. In the MTVRSP, besides the constraints that are common to the basic vehicle routing problem, the following ones are present: during each day a vehicle can make more than one trip; the customers impose delivery time windows; the vehicles have different capacities considered in terms of both volume and weight; the access to some customers is restricted to some vehicles; the drivers' schedules must respect the maximum legal driving time per day and the legal time breaks; the unloading times are considered.  相似文献

This article tackles the multi-trip vehicle routing problem with time windows and limited duration. A trip is a timed route such that a succession of trips can be assigned to one vehicle. We provide an exact two-phase algorithm to solve it. The first phase enumerates possible ordered lists of clients which match the maximum trip duration criterion. The second phase uses a Branch and Price scheme to generate and choose a best set of trips so that all customers are visited. We propose a set covering formulation as the column generation master problem, where columns (variables) represent trips. The sub-problem selects appropriate timing for trips and has a pseudo-polynomial complexity. Computational results on Solomon’s benchmarks are presented. The computational times obtained with our new algorithm are much lower than the ones recently obtained in the only two studies published on this problem to date.  相似文献

This paper studies an arc routing problem with capacity constraints and time-dependent service costs. This problem is motivated by winter gritting applications where the “timing” of each intervention is crucial. The exact problem-solving approach reported here first transforms the arc routing problem into an equivalent node routing problem. Then, a column generation scheme is used to solve the latter. The master problem is a classical set covering problem, while the subproblems are time-dependent shortest path problems with resource constraints. These subproblems are solved using an extension of a previously developed algorithm. Computational results are reported on problems derived from a set of classical instances of the vehicle routing problem with time windows.  相似文献

This paper presents an approximation algorithm for a vehicle routing problem on a tree-shaped network with a single depot where there are two types of demands, pickup demand and delivery demand. Customers are located on nodes of the tree, and each customer has a positive demand of pickup and/or delivery.Demands of customers are served by a fleet of identical vehicles with unit capacity. Each vehicle can serve pickup and delivery demands. It is assumed that the demand of a customer is splittable, i.e., it can be served by more than one vehicle. The problem we are concerned with in this paper asks to find a set of tours of the vehicles with minimum total lengths. In each tour, a vehicle begins at the depot with certain amount of goods for delivery, visits a subset of the customers in order to deliver and pick up goods and returns to the depot. At any time during the tour, a vehicle must always satisfy the capacity constraint, i.e., at any time the sum of goods to be delivered and that of goods that have been picked up is not allowed to exceed the vehicle capacity. We propose a 2-approximation algorithm for the problem.  相似文献

A computational comparison of algorithms for the inventory routing problem   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
The inventory routing problem is a distribution problem in which each customer maintains a local inventory of a product such as heating oil and consumes a certain amount of that product each day. Each day a fleet of trucks is dispatched over a set of routes to resupply a subset of the customers. In this paper, we describe and compare algorithms for this problem defined over a short planning period, e.g. one week. These algorithms define the set of customers to be serviced each day and produce routes for a fleet of vehicles to service those customers. Two algorithms are compared in detail, one which first allocates deliveries to days and then solves a vehicle routing problem and a second which treats the multi-day problem as a modified vehicle routing problem. The comparison is based on a set of real data obtained from a propane distribution firm in Pennsylvania. The solutions obtained by both procedures compare quite favorably with those in use by the firm.Part of this work was performed while this author was visiting the University of Waterloo.  相似文献

In the multi-period petrol station replenishment problem (MPSRP) the aim is to optimize the delivery of several petroleum products to a set of petrol stations over a given planning horizon. One must determine, for each day of the planning horizon, how much of each product should be delivered to each station, how to load these products into vehicle compartments, and how to plan vehicle routes. The objective is to maximize the total profit equal to the revenue, minus the sum of routing costs and of regular and overtime costs. This article describes a heuristic for the MPSRP. It contains a route construction and truck loading procedures, a route packing procedure, and two procedures enabling the anticipation or the postponement of deliveries. The heuristic was extensively tested on randomly generated data and compared to a previously published algorithm. Computational results confirm the efficiency of the proposed methodology.  相似文献

The open vehicle routing problem (VRP) is an immediate variant of the standard vehicle routing problem where the vehicle need not return to the depot after servicing its last customer. In this paper, we present results on an implementation of the attribute-based hill climber heuristic to the open VRP. The attribute-based hill climber heuristic is a parameter-free variant of the tabu search principle and has shown to be highly effective for the standard vehicle routing problem.  相似文献

In the single vehicle routing allocation problem (SVRAP) we have a single vehicle, together with a set of customers, and the problem is one of deciding a route for the vehicle (starting and ending at given locations) such that it visits some of the customers. Customers not visited by the vehicle can either be allocated to a customer on the vehicle route, or they can be isolated. The objective is to minimize a weighted sum of routing, allocation and isolation costs. One special case of the general SVRAP is the median cycle problem, also known as the ring star problem, where no isolated vertices are allowed. Other special cases include the covering tour problem, the covering salesman problem and the shortest covering path problem. In this paper, we present a tabu search algorithm for the SVRAP. Our tabu search algorithm includes aspiration, path relinking and frequency-based diversification. Computational results are presented for test problems used previously in the literature and our algorithm is compared with the results obtained by other researchers. We also report results for much larger problems than have been considered by others.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a solution method for a bi-objective vehicle routing problem, called the vehicle routing problem with route balancing (VRPRB), in which the total length and balance of the route lengths are the objectives under consideration. The method, called Target Aiming Pareto Search, is defined to hybridize a multi-objective genetic algorithm for the VRPRB using local searches. The method is based on repeated local searches with their own appropriate goals. We also propose an implementation of the Target Aiming Pareto Search using tabu searches, which are efficient meta-heuristics for the vehicle routing problem. Assessments with standard metrics on classical benchmarks demonstrate the importance of hybridization as well as the efficiency of the Target Aiming Pareto Search.  相似文献

This paper considers the routing of vehicles with limited capacity from a central depot to a set of geographically dispersed customers where actual demand is revealed only when the vehicle arrives at the customer. The solution to this vehicle routing problem with stochastic demand (VRPSD) involves the optimization of complete routing schedules with minimum travel distance, driver remuneration, and number of vehicles, subject to a number of constraints such as time windows and vehicle capacity. To solve such a multiobjective and multi-modal combinatorial optimization problem, this paper presents a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm that incorporates two VRPSD-specific heuristics for local exploitation and a route simulation method to evaluate the fitness of solutions. A new way of assessing the quality of solutions to the VRPSD on top of comparing their expected costs is also proposed. It is shown that the algorithm is capable of finding useful tradeoff solutions for the VRPSD and the solutions are robust to the stochastic nature of the problem. The developed algorithm is further validated on a few VRPSD instances adapted from Solomon’s vehicle routing problem with time windows (VRPTW) benchmark problems.

This paper introduces a new class of problem, the disrupted vehicle routing problem (VRP), which deals with the disruptions that occur at the execution stage of a VRP plan. The paper then focuses on one type of such problem, in which a vehicle breaks down during the delivery and a new routing solution needs to be quickly generated to minimise the costs. Two Tabu Search algorithms are developed to solve the problem and are assessed in relation to an exact algorithm. A set of test problems has been generated and computational results from experiments using the heuristic algorithms are presented.  相似文献

This paper considers a vehicle routing problem where each vehicle performs delivery operations over multiple routes during its workday and where new customer requests occur dynamically. The proposed methodology for addressing the problem is based on an adaptive large neighborhood search heuristic, previously developed for the static version of the problem. In the dynamic case, multiple possible scenarios for the occurrence of future requests are considered to decide about the opportunity to include a new request into the current solution. It is worth noting that the real-time decision is about the acceptance of the new request, not about its service which can only take place in some future routes (a delivery route being closed as soon as a vehicle departs from the depot). In the computational results, a comparison is provided with a myopic approach which does not consider scenarios of future requests.  相似文献

Vehicle routing variants with multiple depots and mixed fleet present intricate combinatorial aspects related to sequencing choices, vehicle type choices, depot choices, and depots positioning. This paper introduces a dynamic programming methodology for efficiently evaluating compound neighborhoods combining sequence-based moves with an optimal choice of vehicle and depot, and an optimal determination of the first customer to be visited in the route, called rotation. The assignment choices, making the richness of the problem, are thus no more addressed in the solution structure, but implicitly determined during each move evaluation. Two meta-heuristics relying on these concepts, an iterated local search and a hybrid genetic algorithm, are presented. Extensive computational experiments demonstrate the remarkable performance of these methods on classic benchmark instances for multi-depot vehicle routing problems with and without fleet mix, as well as the notable contribution of the implicit depot choice and positioning methods to the search performance. New state-of-the-art results are obtained for multi-depot vehicle routing problems (MDVRP), and multi-depot vehicle fleet mix problems (MDVFMP) with unconstrained fleet size. The proposed concepts are fairly general, and widely applicable to many other vehicle routing variants.  相似文献
