LetR*G be a crossed product of the groupG over the prime ringR and assume thatR*G is also prime. In this paper we study unitsq in the Martindale ring of quotientsQ 0(R*G) which normalize bothR and the group of trivial units ofR*G. We obtain quite detailed information on their structure. We then study the group ofX-inner automorphisms ofR*G induced by such elements. We show in fact that this group is fairly close to the group of automorphisms ofR*G induced by certain trivial units inQ 0(R)*G. As an application we specialize to the case whereR=U(L) is the enveloping algebra of a Lie algebraL. Here we study the semi-invariants forL andG which are contained inQ 0(R*G) and we obtain results which extend known properties ofU(L). Finally, every cocommutative Hopf algebraH over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 is of the formH=U(L)*G. Thus we also obtain information on the semi-invariants forH contained inQ 0(H). Research supported in part by N.S.F. Grant Nos. MCS 83-01393 and MCS 82-19678.  相似文献

We show that ifG is a semisimple algebraic group defined overQ and Γ is an arithmetic lattice inG:=G R with respect to theQ-structure, then there exists a compact subsetC ofG/Γ such that, for any unipotent one-parameter subgroup {u t} ofG and anyg∈G, the time spent inC by the {u t}-trajectory ofgΓ, during the time interval [0,T], is asymptotic toT, unless {g −1utg} is contained in aQ-parabolic subgroup ofG. Some quantitative versions of this are also proved. The results strengthen similar assertions forSL(n,Z),n≥2, proved earlier in [5] and also enable verification of a technical condition introduced in [7] for lattices inSL(3,R), which was used in our proof of Raghunathan’s conjecture for a class of unipotent flows, in [8].  相似文献

Simple graphs are considered. Let G be a graph andg(x) andf(x) integer-valued functions defined on V(G) withg(x)⩽f(x) for everyxɛV(G). For a subgraphH ofG and a factorizationF=|F 1,F 2,⃛,F 1| ofG, if |E(H)∩E(F 1)|=1,1⩽ij, then we say thatF orthogonal toH. It is proved that for an (mg(x)+k,mf(x) -k)-graphG, there exists a subgraphR ofG such that for any subgraphH ofG with |E(H)|=k,R has a (g,f)-factorization orthogonal toH, where 1⩽k<m andg(x)⩾1 orf(x)⩾5 for everyxɛV(G). Straightening and bounded cohomology of hyperbolic groups   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
It was stated by M. Gromov [Gr2] that, for any hyperbolic group G, the map from bounded cohomology Hnb(G,\Bbb R) H^n_b(G,{\Bbb R}) to Hn(G,\Bbb R) H^n(G,{\Bbb R}) induced by inclusion is surjective for n 3 2 n \ge 2 . We introduce a homological analogue of straightening simplices, which works for any hyperbolic group. This implies that the map Hnb(G,V) ? Hn(G,V) H^n_b(G,V) \to H^n(G,V) is surjective for n 3 2 n \ge 2 when V is any bounded \Bbb QG {\Bbb Q}G -module and when V is any finitely generated abelian group.  相似文献

LetG be a finite group acting by automorphisms on an algebraS over some commutative ringk. We show that if the action ofG restricted to the center ofS is Galois in the sense of [C-H-R], thenHH *(S G)≊HH * (S) G. An analogous result holds for cyclic homology, provided the order ofG is invertible ink. The author was supported in part by a grant from the NSF.  相似文献

An isometricH-action on a Riemannian manifoldX is calledpolar if there exists a closed submanifoldS ofX that meets everyH-orbit and always meets orbits orthogonally (S is called a section). LetG be a compact Lie group equipped with a biinvariant metric,H a closed subgroup ofG ×G, and letH act onG isometrically by (h 1,h 2) ·x = h 1 xh 2 −1 · LetP(G, H) denote the group ofH 1-pathsg: [0, 1] →G such that (g(0),g (1)) ∈H, and letP(G, H) act on the Hilbert spaceV = H 0([0, 1], g) isometrically byg * u = gug −1g′g −1. We prove that if the action ofH onG is polar with a flat section then the action ofP(G, H) onV is polar. Principal orbits of polar actions onV are isoparametric submanifolds ofV and are infinite-dimensional generalized real or complex flag manifolds. We also note that the adjoint actions of affine Kac-Moody groups and the isotropy action corresponding to an involution of an affine Kac-Moody group are special examples ofP(G, H)-actions for suitable choice ofH andG. Let Ω be an open and bounded subset ofR n with locally Lipschitz boundary. We prove that the functionsv∈SBV(Ω,R m ) whose jump setS vis essentially closed and polyhedral and which are of classW k, ∞ (S v,R m) for every integerk are strongly dense inGSBV p(Ω,R m ), in the sense that every functionu inGSBV p(Ω,R m ) is approximated inL p(Ω,R m ) by a sequence of functions {v k{j∈N with the described regularity such that the approximate gradients ∇v jconverge inL p(Ω,R nm ) to the approximate gradient ∇u and the (n−1)-dimensional measure of the jump setsS v j converges to the (n−1)-dimensional measure ofS u. The structure ofS v can be further improved in casep≤2.

Let E be a compact Lie group, G a closed subgroup of E, and H a closed normal sub-group of G. For principal fibre bundle (E,p, E,/G;G) tmd (E/H,p‘,E/G;G/H), the relation between auta(E) (resp. autce (E)) and autG/H(E/H) (resp. autGe/H(E/H)) is investigated by using bundle map theory and transformation group theory. It will enable us to compute the group JG(E) (resp. SG(E)) while the group J G/u(E/H) is known.  相似文献

Let G be a subgroup of the symmetric group Sm and V be an n-dimensional unitary space where nm. Let V(G) be the symmetry class of tensors over V associated with G and the identity character. Let D(G) be the set of all decomposable elements of V(G) and O(G) be its subset consisting of all nonzero decomposable tensors x 1 ?? xm such that {x 1,…,xm } is an orthogonal set. A set S of vertices in a graph G is a connected dominating set if every vertex not in S is adjacent to some vertex in S and the subgraph induced by S is connected. The connected domination number γ c (G) is the minimum size of such a set. Let d*(G)=min{d(G),d([`(G)])}{\delta^*(G)={\rm min}\{\delta(G),\delta({\overline{G}})\}} , where [`(G)]{{\overline{G}}} is the complement of G and δ(G) is the minimum vertex degree. We prove that when G and [`(G)]{{\overline{G}}} are both connected, gc(G)+gc([`(G)]) £ d*(G)+4-(gc(G)-3)(gc([`(G)])-3){{\gamma_c}(G)+{\gamma_c}({\overline{G}})\le \delta^*(G)+4-({\gamma_c}(G)-3)({\gamma_c}({\overline{G}})-3)} . As a corollary, gc(G)+gc([`(G)]) £ \frac3n4{{\gamma_c}(G)+{\gamma_c}({\overline{G}})\le \frac{3n}{4}} when δ*(G) ≥ 3 and n ≥ 14, where G has n vertices. We also prove that gc(G)+gc([`(G)]) £ d*(G)+2{{\gamma_c}(G)+{\gamma_c}({\overline{G}})\le \delta^*(G)+2} when gc(G),gc([`(G)]) 3 4{{\gamma_c}(G),{\gamma_c}({\overline{G}})\ge 4} . This bound is sharp when δ*(G) = 6, and equality can only hold when δ*(G) = 6. Finally, we prove that gc(G)gc([`(G)]) £ 2n-4{{\gamma_c}(G){\gamma_c}({\overline{G}})\le 2n-4} when n ≥ 7, with equality only for paths and cycles.  相似文献

We factor the virtual Poincaré polynomial of every homogeneous space G/H, where G is a complex connected linear algebraic group and H is an algebraic subgroup, as t2u (t2–1)r QG/H(t2) for a polynomial QG/H with nonnegative integer coefficients. Moreover, we show that QG/H(t2) divides the virtual Poincaré polynomial of every regular embedding of G/H, if H is connected.  相似文献

Given two graphs G = (V(G), E(G)) and H = (V(H), E(H)), the sum of G and H, G + H, is the disjoint union of G and H. The product of G and H, G × H, is the graph with the vertex set V(G × H) that is the Cartesian product of V(G) and V(H), and two vertices (g1, h1), (g2, h2) are adjacent if and only if [g1, g2] (ELEMENT) E(G) and [h1, h2] (ELEMENT) E(H). Let G denote the set of all graphs. Given a graph G, the G-matching function, γG, assigns any graph H (ELEMENT) G to the maximum integer k such that kG is a subgraph of H. The graph capacity function for G, PG: G → (RFRAKTUR), is defined as PG(H) = limn→zG(Hn)]1/n, where Hn denotes the n-fold product of H × H × … × H. Different graphs G may have different graph capacity functions, all of which are increasing. In this paper, we classify all graphs whose capacity functions are additive, multiplicative, and increasing; all graphs whose capacity functions are pseudo-additive, pseudo-multiplicative, and increasing; and all graphs whose capacity functions fall under neither of the above cases. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

LetP be a finite classical polar space of rankr, r2. An ovoidO ofP is a pointset ofP, which has exactly one point in common with every totally isotropic subspace of rankr. It is proved that the polar spaceW n (q) arising from a symplectic polarity ofPG(n, q), n odd andn > 3, that the polar spaceQ(2n, q) arising from a non-singular quadric inPG(2n, q), n > 2 andq even, that the polar space Q(2n + 1,q) arising from a non-singular elliptic quadric inPG(2n + 1,q), n > 1, and that the polar spaceH(n,q 2) arising from a non-singular Hermitian variety inPG(n, q 2)n even andn > 2, have no ovoids.LetS be a generalized hexagon of ordern (1). IfV is a pointset of order n3 + 1 ofS, such that every two points are at distance 6, thenV is called an ovoid ofS. IfH(q) is the classical generalized hexagon arising fromG 2 (q), then it is proved thatH(q) has an ovoid iffQ(6, q) has an ovoid. There follows thatQ(6, q), q=32h+1, has an ovoid, and thatH(q), q even, has no ovoid.A regular system of orderm onH(3,q 2) is a subsetK of the lineset ofH(3,q 2), such that through every point ofH(3,q 2) there arem (> 0) lines ofK. B. Segre shows that, ifK exists, thenm=q + 1 or (q + l)/2.If m=(q + l)/2,K is called a hemisystem. The last part of the paper gives a very short proof of Segre's result. Finally it is shown how to construct the 4-(11, 5, 1) design out of the hemisystem with 56 lines (q=3).  相似文献

We show in a certain Lie*-algebra, the connections between the Lie subalgebra G +:= G + G* + [G, G*], generated by a Lie subalgebra G, and the properties of G. This allows us to investigate some useful information about the structure of such two Lie subalgebras. Some results on the relations between the two Lie subalgebras are obtained. As an application, we get the following conclusion: Let AB(X) be a space of self-adjoint operators and := A ⊕ iA the corresponding complex Lie*-algebra. G + = G + G* + [G, G*] and G are two LM-decomposable Lie subalgebras of ℒ with the decomposition G + = R(G +) + S, G = R G + S G , and R G R(G +). Then G + is ideally finite iff R G +:= R G + R* G * + [R G , R G *] is a quasisolvable Lie subalgebra, S G +:= S G + S G * + [S G , S G *] is an ideally finite semisimple Lie subalgebra, and [R G , S G ] = [R G *, S G ] = {0}.  相似文献

UniversalC*-algebrasC*(A) exist for certain topological *-algebras called algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. A Frechet *-algebraA has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if every operator representation ofA mapsA into bounded operators. This is proved by showing that every unbounded operator representation π, continuous in the uniform topology, of a topological *-algebraA, which is an inverse limit of Banach *-algebras, is a direct sum of bounded operator representations, thereby factoring through the enveloping pro-C*-algebraE(A) ofA. Given aC*-dynamical system (G,A,α), any topological *-algebraB containingC c (G,A) as a dense *-subalgebra and contained in the crossed productC*-algebraC*(G,A,α) satisfiesE(B) =C*(G,A,α). IfG = ℝ, ifB is an α-invariant dense Frechet *-subalgebra ofA such thatE(B) =A, and if the action α onB ism-tempered, smooth and by continuous *-automorphisms: then the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,B,α) satisfiesE(S(ℝ,B,α)) =C*(ℝ,A,α). WhenG is a Lie group, theC -elementsC (A), the analytic elementsC ω(A) as well as the entire analytic elementsC є(A) carry natural topologies making them algebras with aC*-enveloping algebra. Given a non-unitalC*-algebraA, an inductive system of idealsI α is constructed satisfyingA =C*-ind limI α; and the locally convex inductive limit ind limI α is anm-convex algebra with theC*-enveloping algebraA and containing the Pedersen idealK a ofA. Given generatorsG with weakly Banach admissible relationsR, we construct universal topological *-algebraA(G, R) and show that it has aC*-enveloping algebra if and only if (G, R) isC*-admissible.  相似文献

On conditional edge-connectivity of graphs   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
1. IntroductionIn this paper, a graph G ~ (V,E) always means a simple graph (without loops andmultiple edges) with the vertex-set V and the edge-set E. We follow [1] for graph-theoreticalterllilnology and notation not defined here.It is well known that when the underlying topology of a computer interconnectionnetwork is modeled by a graph G, the edge-connectivity A(G) of G is an important measurefor fault-tolerance of the network. However, it has many deficiencies (see [2]). MotiVatedby t…  相似文献

Given a setA inR 2 and a collectionS of plane sets, we say that a lineL separatesA fromS ifA is contained in one of the closed half-planes defined byL, while every set inS is contained in the complementary closed half-plane.We prove that, for any collectionF ofn disjoint disks inR 2, there is a lineL that separates a disk inF from a subcollection ofF with at least (n–7)/4 disks. We produce configurationsH n andG n , withn and 2n disks, respectively, such that no pair of disks inH n can be simultaneously separated from any set with more than one disk ofH n , and no disk inG n can be separated from any subset ofG n with more thann disks.We also present a setJ m with 3m line segments inR 2, such that no segment inJ m can be separated from a subset ofJ m with more thanm+1 elements. This disproves a conjecture by N. Alonet al. Finally we show that ifF is a set ofn disjoint line segments in the plane such that they can be extended to be disjoint semilines, then there is a lineL that separates one of the segments from at least n/3+1 elements ofF.  相似文献

The characterization of right translation-invariant subspaces ofL (G *), where , is studied. We introduce the class of multiplier functions which, in the semisimple case, play a role similar to that played by the exponentials for the real line. However, it is proved that multiplier functions ofG * with respect toR fail to characterize right translation-invariant subspaces ofL (G *). That is, we construct a right translation-invariant, w*-closed subspace ofL (G *) which contains no multiplier function. This paper is a part of the author's Ph.D. thesis prepared at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem under the supervision of Professor H. Furstenberg, to whom the author wishes to express his thanks for his helpful guidance, and valuable remarks.  相似文献

LetG andHG be two real semisimple groups defined overQ. Assume thatH is the group of points fixed by an involution ofG. LetπL 2(H\G) be an irreducible representation ofG and letf επ be aK-finite function. Let Γ be an arithmetic subgroup ofG. The Poincaré seriesP f(g)=ΣH∩ΓΓ f(γ{}itg) is an automorphic form on Γ\G. LetV be a set ofn elements. The set of allk-subsets ofV is denoted . Ak-hypergraph G consists of avertex-set V(G) and anedgeset , wherek≥2. IfG is a 3-hypergraph, then the set of edges containing a given vertexvεV(G) define a graphG v . The graphs {G v νvεV(G)} aresubsumed byG. Each subsumed graphG v is a graph with vertex-setV(G) − v. They can form the set of vertex-deleted subgraphs of a graphH, that is, eachG v Hv, whereV(H)=V(G). In this case,G is a hypergraphic reconstruction ofH. We show that certain families of self-complementary graphsH can be reconstructed in this way by a hypergraphG, and thatG can be extended to a hypergraphG *, all of whose subsumed graphs are isomorphic toH, whereG andG * are self-complementary hypergraphs. In particular, the Paley graphs can be reconstructed in this way. This work was supported by an operating grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.  相似文献
