In thermoacoustic scattering the scattered field consists of a propagating acoustic wave together with a non-propagational “thermal” wave of much shorter wavelength. Although the scattered field may be obtained from a Rayleigh expansion, in cases where the particle radius is small compared with the acoustic wave length, these solutions are ill-conditioned. For this reason asymptotic or perturbation solutions are sought. In many situations the radius of the scatter is comparable to the length of the thermal wave. By exploiting the non-propagational character of the thermal field we obtain an asymptotic solution for long acoustic waves that is valid over a wide range of thermal wavelengths, on both sides of the thermal resonance condition. We show that this solution gives excellent agreement with both the full solution of the coupled Helmholtz equations and experimental measurements. This treatment provides a bridge between perturbation theory approximations in the long wavelength limit and high frequency solutions to the thermal field employing the geometric theory of diffraction.  相似文献

We study the behavior of spiral wave under the driving of a rotating electric field. The rotating electric field can drive a spiral wave to be synchronous, depending on four factors: its frequency and amplitude, chirality, and polarized modes. Rotation-synchronization characterized by the rotating direction is focused on. We discuss the behavior of synchronization, such as the dependence of angle-differences between the spiral tip and the electric field on ratio of frequency, the influences of different polarized modes of the electric field, the radius of synchronous spiral wave, and so on. A circularly polarized electric fields (CPEF) can suppress meandering spiral to rigid one and prevent breakup of spiral in medium with low excitability. The phase diagram describing the controllable region in excitability-period plane is presented. The influences of polarized modes of electric field on minimum excitability of medium are also studied.  相似文献

The interaction of purely periodic mean flow with a peristaltic induced flow is investigated within the framework of a two-dimensional analogue. The mathematical model considers a viscous incompressible fluid under the effect of transverse magnetic field, taking into account the effect of Hall currents for a magneto-fluid with suspended particles between infinite parallel walls on which a sinusoidal traveling wave is imposed. A perturbation solution to the complete set of Navier-Stokes equations is found for the case in which the frequency of the traveling wave and that of the imposed pressure gradient are equal. The ratio of the traveling wave amplitude to channel width is assumed to be small. For this case a first order steady flow is found to exist, as contrasted to a second order effect in the absence of the imposed periodic pressure gradient. The effect of Hall parameter, Hartmann number and the various parameters included in the problem are discussed numerically.  相似文献

We consider the acoustic wave scattering by an impenetrable obstacle embedded in a multilayered background medium, which is modelled by a linear system constituted by the Helmholtz equations with different wave numbers and the transmission conditions across the interfaces. The aim of this article is to construct an efficient computing scheme for the scattered waves for this complex scattering process, with a rigorous mathematical analysis. First, we construct a set of functions by a series of coupled transmission problems, which are proven to be well-defined. Then, the solution to our complex scattering in each layer is decomposed as the summation in terms of these functions, which are essentially the contributions from two interfaces enclosing this layer. These contributions physically correspond to the scattered fields for simple scattering problems, which do not involve the multiple scattering and are coupled via the boundary conditions. Finally, we propose an iteration scheme to compute the wave field in each layer decoupling the multiple scattering effects, with the advantage that only the solvers for the well-known transmission problems and an obstacle scattering problem in a homogeneous background medium are applied. The convergence property of this iteration scheme is proven.  相似文献

A waveguide in integrated optics is defined by its refractiveindex. The guide is assumed to be invariant in the propagationdirection while in the transverse direction it is supposed tobe a compact perturbation of an unbounded stratified medium. We are interested in the modes guided by this device, whichare waves with a transverse energy confined in a neighbourhoodof the perturbation. Our goal is to analyse the existence of such guided modes. Underthe assumptions of weak guidance the problem reduces to a two-dimensionaleigenvalue problem for a scalar field. The associated operatoris unbounded, selfadjoint, and bounded from below. Its spectrumconsists of the discrete spectrum corresponding to the guidedmodes and of the essential spectrum corresponding to the radiationmodes. We present existence results of guided modes and an asymptoticstudy at high frequencies, which shows that contrarily to thecase of optical fibers, the number of guided modes can remainbounded. The major tools are the min-max principle and comparisonof results between different eigenvalue problems. The originalityof the present study lies in the stratified character of theunbounded reference medium.  相似文献

We consider Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in which backscattered waves are measured from locations along a single flight path of an aircraft. Emphasis is on the case where it is not possible to form a beam with the radar. The article uses a scalar linearized mathematical model of scattering, based on the wave equation. This leads to a forward (scattering) operator, which maps singularities in the coefficient of the wave equation (viewed as a singular perturbation about a constant coefficient) to singularities in the scattered wave field. The goal of SAR is to recover a picture of the singular support of the coefficient, i.e., an a image of the underlying terrain. Traditionally, images are produced by backprojecting the data. This is done by applying the adjoint of the scattering operator to the data. This backprojected image is equivalent to that obtained by applying to the perturbed coefficient the composition of the scattering operator followed by its adjoint. We analyze this composite operator, and show that it is a paired Lagrangian operator. The properties of such operators explain the origin of certain artifacts in the backprojected image.  相似文献

We consider the problem of wave propagation for a 2‐D rectilinear optical waveguide which presents some perturbation. We construct a mathematical framework to study such a problem and prove the existence of a solution for the case of small imperfections. Our results are based on the knowledge of a Green's function for the rectilinear case. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The infinite T-matrix method is a powerful tool for electromagnetic scattering simulations, particularly when one is interested in changes in orientation of the scatterer with respect to the incident wave or changes of configuration of multiple scatterers and random particles, because it avoids the need to solve the fully reconfigured systems. The truncated T-matrix (for each scatterer in an ensemble) is often computed using the null-field method. The main disadvantage of the null-field based T-matrix computation is its numerical instability for particles that deviate from a sphere. For large and/or highly non-spherical particles, the null-field method based truncated T-matrix computations can become slowly convergent or even divergent. In this work, we describe an electromagnetic scattering surface integral formulation for T-matrix computations that avoids the numerical instability. The new method is based on a recently developed high-order surface integral equation algorithm for far field computations using basis functions that are tangential on a chosen non-spherical obstacle. The main focus of this work is on the mathematical details required to apply the high-order algorithm to compute a truncated T-matrix that describes the scattering properties of a chosen perfect conductor in a homogeneous medium. We numerically demonstrate the stability and convergence of the T-matrix computations for various perfect conductors using plane wave incident radiation at several low to medium frequencies and simulation of the associated radar cross of the obstacles.  相似文献

We study periodic capillary and capillary-gravity waves traveling over a water layer of constant vorticity and finite depth. Inverting the curvature operator, we formulate the mathematical model as an operator equation for a compact perturbation of the identity. By means of global bifurcation theory, we then construct global continua consisting of solutions of the water wave problem which may feature stagnation points. A characterization of these continua is also included.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic profile of the solutions of the Burgers equation on a finite interval with a periodic perturbation on the boundary. The equation describes a dissipative medium, and the initial constant profile therefore passes into a wave with a decreasing amplitude. In the low-viscosity case, the asymptotic profile looks like a sawtooth wave (with periodic breaks of the derivative), similar to the known Fay solution on the half-line, but it has some new properties.  相似文献

The peristaltic flow of a Williamson fluid in asymmetric channels with permeable walls is investigated. The channel asymmetry is produced by choosing a peristaltic wave train on the wall with different amplitudes and phases. The solutions for stream function, axial velocity and pressure gradient are obtained for small Weissenberg number, We, via a perturbation expansion about We, while an exact solution method is discussed for large values of We. The exact solutions become singular as We tends to zero; hence the separate perturbation solutions are essential. Also, numerical results are obtained using the perturbation technique for the pumping and trapping phenomena, and these are used to bring out the qualitative features of the solutions. It is noted that the size of the trapped bolus decreases and its symmetry disappears for large values of the permeability parameter. The effects of various wave forms (namely, sinusoidal, triangular, square and trapezoidal) on the fluid flow are discussed.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the inverse medium scattering problem in a perturbed, layered, half-space, which is a problem related to the seismologial investigation of inclusions inside the earth’s crust. A wave penetrable object is located in a layer where the refraction index is different from the other part of the half-space. Wave propagation in such a layered half-space is different from that in a homogeneous half-space. In a layered half-space, a scattered wave consists of a free wave and a guided wave. In many cases, only the free-wave far-field or only the guided-wave far-field can be measured. We establish mathematical formulas for relations between the object, the incident wave and the scattered wave. In the ideal condition where exact data are given, we prove the uniqueness of the inverse problem. A numerical example is presented for the reconstruction of a penetrable object from simulated noise data.  相似文献

The wave pattern of the flow developed when a solar wind shock wave propagates along the surface of the Earth’s bow shock is studied. The investigation is carried out in the three-dimensional non-plane-polarized formulation within the framework of the ideal magnetohydrodynamic model in which the medium is assumed to be inviscid and non-heat-conducting and to have the infinite conductivity. The global three-dimensional pattern of the interaction which is a function of the latitude and longitude of elements on the surface of the bow shock is constructed as a mosaic of solutions to the problem of breakdown of a discontinuity developed between the states behind the impinging and bow shocks on the moving curve of intersection of their fronts. The investigation is carried out for typical solar wind parameters and interplanetary magnetic field strength in the Earth’s orbit and for several Mach numbers of the interplanetary shock wave, which makes it possible to trace the evolution of the flow developed as a function of the intensity of the shock perturbation of the solar wind. The solution obtained is necessary for interpreting measurements carried out by spacecraft located in the neighborhood of the Lagrange point and the Earth’s magnetosphere.  相似文献

In this article, we have used the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) to find the travelling wave solutions for some non-linear initial-value problems in the mathematical physics. These problems consist of the Burgers–Fisher equation, the Kuramoto–Sivashinsky equation, the coupled Schordinger KdV equations and the long–short wave resonance equations together with initial conditions. The results of these problems reveal that the HPM is very powerful, effective, convenient and quite accurate to the systems of non-linear equations. It is predicted that this method can be found widely applicable in engineering and physics.  相似文献

Abstract For the weakly inhomogeneous acoustic medium in Ω={(x,y,z):z>0},we consider the inverse problemof determining the density function ρ(x,y).The inversion input for our inverse problem is the wave field givenon a line.We get an integral equation for the 2-D density perturbation from the linearization.By virtue of theintegral transform,we prove the uniqueness and the instability of the solution to the integral equation.Thedegree of ill-posedness for this problem is also given.  相似文献

It is easy to write down entire solutions of the Helmholtz equation: Examples are plane waves and Herglotz wavefunctions. We are interested in the far‐field behaviour of these solutions motivated by the following question: When is it legitimate to split the far field of such an entire solution into the sum of an incoming spherical wave and an outgoing spherical wave? We review the relevant literature (there are disjoint physical and mathematical threads), and then we answer the question for Herglotz wavefunctions, using a combination of the 2‐dimensional method of stationary phase and some explicit examples.  相似文献

The method of asymptotic perturbation of the fundamental solution of the wave equation is applied to compute the rapidly oscillating integrals that arise in wave fields in layered media. The principal part is separated for one of the integrals determining the electromagnetic waves in a layer medium.
