On Certain Isomorphisms between Absolute Galois Groups

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, F be an algebraically closed extension of k of transcendence degree one, and G be the group of automorphisms over k of the field F. The purpose of this note is to calculate the group of continuous automorphisms of G.

Green's function, harmonic transplantation, and best Sobolev constant in spaces of constant curvature

We extend the method of harmonic transplantation from Euclidean domains to spaces of constant positive or negative curvature. To this end the structure of the Green's function of the corresponding Laplace-Beltrami operator is investigated. By means of isoperimetric inequalities we derive complementary estimates for its distribution function. We apply the method of harmonic transplantation to the question of whether the best Sobolev constant for the critical exponent is attained, i.e. whether there is an extremal function for the best Sobolev constant in spaces of constant curvature. A fairly complete answer is given, based on a concentration-compactness argument and a Pohozaev identity. The result depends on the curvature.

Riemann zeta function and Lyapunov-type inequalities for certain higher order differential equations

This note generalizes the well known Lyapunov-type inequalities for second-order linear differential equations to certain 2M-th order linear differential equations with five types of boundary conditions. The usage of the best constant of some Sobolev-type inequalities clarify the process for obtaining such inequality and sharpen the result of Çakmak [2].     

Isomorphisms of Certain Locally Nilpotent Finitary Groups and Associated Rings

For any chain Γ the ring NT(Γ,K) of all finitary Γ-matrices ‖a _ij ‖ _i,jεΓ over an associative ring K with zeros on and above the main diagonal is locally nilpotent and hence radical. If R′=NT(Γ′,K′),R=NT(Γ,K) and either |Γ|<∞ or K is a ring with no zero-divisors, then isomorphisms between rings R and R′, their adjoint groups and associated Lie rings are described.     

Optimal Constants in Critical Sobolev Inequalities on Riemannian Manifolds in the Presence of Symmetries

We prove a theorem on the existence of a `second best constant' incritical Sobolev inequalities on compact Riemannian manifolds underthe action of an isometry group. The theorem is then applied toseveral examples initially introduced by different authors.

On the best constant in a Wente‐type inequality for the fractional Laplace operator

In this paper, we consider the solution to Wente's problem with the fractional Laplace operator (?Δ)^α/2, where 0 < α < 2. We derive a Wente‐type inequality for this problem. Next, we compute the optimal constant in such inequality. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The best constant of Sobolev inequality on a bounded interval

The best constants Cm,j of Sobolev embedding of Hm(0,a) into Cj[0,a](0?j?m−1) are obtained. Especially, when a=∞, these constants can be represented in a closed form.     

Sobolev type inequalities for general symmetric forms

A general version of the Sobolev type inequality, including both the classical Sobolev inequality and the logarithmic Sobolev one, is studied for general symmetric forms by using isoperimetric constants. Some necessary and sufficient conditions are presented as results. The main results are illustrated by two examples of birth-death processes.

     

On 321-Avoiding Permutations in Affine Weyl Groups

We introduce the notion of 321-avoiding permutations in the affine Weyl group W of type A _{n – 1} by considering the group as a George group (in the sense of Eriksson and Eriksson). This enables us to generalize a result of Billey, Jockusch and Stanley to show that the 321-avoiding permutations in W coincide with the set of fully commutative elements; in other words, any two reduced expressions for a 321-avoiding element of W (considered as a Coxeter group) may be obtained from each other by repeated applications of short braid relations.Using Shi's characterization of the Kazhdan–Lusztig cells in the group W, we use our main result to show that the fully commutative elements of W form a union of Kazhdan–Lusztig cells. This phenomenon has been studied by the author and J. Losonczy for finite Coxeter groups, and is interesting partly because it allows certain structure constants for the Kazhdan–Lusztig basis of the associated Hecke algebra to be computed combinatorially.We also show how some of our results can be generalized to a larger group of permutations, the extended affine Weyl group associated to GL _n ()
