Algebraic limit cycles for quadratic systems started to be studied in 1958. Up to now we know 7 families of quadratic systems having algebraic limit cycles of degree 2, 4, 5 and 6. Here we present some new results on the limit cycles and algebraic limit cycles of quadratic systems. These results provide sometimes necessary conditions and other times sufficient conditions on the cofactor of the invariant algebraic curve for the existence or nonexistence of limit cycles or algebraic limit cycles. In particular, it follows from them that for all known examples of algebraic limit cycles for quadratic systems those cycles are unique limit cycles of the system.  相似文献

For a given family of planar differential equations it is a very difficult problem to determine an upper bound for the number of its limit cycles. Even when this upper bound is one it is not always an easy problem to distinguish between the case of zero and one limit cycle. This note mainly deals with this second problem for a family of systems with a homogeneous nonlinear part. While the condition that allows us to separate the existence and the nonexistence of limit cycles can be described, it is very intricate.

The qualitative properties of a predatorprey system with Holling-(n + 1) functional response and a fairly general growth rate are completely investigated. The global stability of a multi-species interacting system has apparently important biological implications. In this paper we study the global stability of Gause-type predator-prey models by providing new criteria for the nonexistence of cycles and limit cycles. Our criteria have clear geometrical interpretations and are easier to apply than other methods employed in recent studies. Using these criteria and related techniques we are able to develop new results on the existence and uniqueness of cycles in Gause-type models with various growth and response functions.

We study the problem of the existence of limit cycles for a generalized Gause-type predator–prey model with functional and numerical responses that satisfy some general assumptions. These assumptions describe the effect of prey density on the consumption and reproduction rates of predator. The model is analyzed for the situation in which the conversion efficiency of prey into new predators increases as prey abundance increases. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of limit cycles is given. It is shown that the existence of a limit cycle is equivalent to the instability of the unique positive critical point of the model. The results can be applied to the analysis of many models appearing in the ecological literature for predator–prey systems. Some ecological models are given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to prove Artés–Llibre–Valls's conjectures on the uniqueness of limit cycles for the Higgins–Selkov system and the Selkov system. In order to apply the limit cycle theory for Liénard systems, we change the Higgins–Selkov and the Selkov systems into Liénard systems first. Then, we present two theorems on the nonexistence of limit cycles of Liénard systems.
