We propose a novel shared sub-path protection (SSPP) algorithm to protect the double-link failures in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) mesh networks. SSPP segments the primary path into several equal-length sub-paths and searches two link-disjoint backup paths for each sub-path. When computing the paths, SSPP considers the load balance and the resource sharing degree, so that the blocking ratio can be effectively reduced. The simulation results show that SSPP not only can completely protect the double-link failures but also can make the tradeoffs between the resource utilization ratio (or blocking ratio) and the protection-switching time.  相似文献

In IP over WDM networks, since there is a large bandwidth gap between a wavelength capacity and the actual bandwidth required by each user, it is necessary to multiplex low-rate traffic streams (LRSs) into lightpaths by traffic grooming. However, with the number of wavelengths increases, a large number of all optical (OOO) transmitting ports are consumed. Meanwhile, the multi-hop grooming with incorporating full-wavelength conversion capacity in each node requires too many optical-electrical-optical (OEO) ports inevitably. To solve theses problems, waveband switching and intra-band wavelength conversion are proposed. By integrating traffic grooming and waveband switching, this paper devises a new multi-granularity traffic grooming mechanism with the function of intra-band wavelength conversion. Based on the proposed mechanism and integrated grooming policy (IGP), a new heuristic routing algorithm called multi-granularity traffic grooming based on integrated auxiliary graph (MGIAG) is also proposed since the traffic grooming problem is NP-hard. Simulation results show that, compared to traditional integrated grooming algorithm (IGA), MGIAG can save more ports and obtain lower blocking probability. Compared to traditional single-hop traffic grooming algorithm (SHA), lower blocking probability and more savings in transmitting ports can be achieved by multi-hop grooming in MGIAG and IGA although they consume more OEO ports.  相似文献

The benefits of using multi-granularity switching to reduce the number of ports, including both electronic and optical ports, have been investigated. A novel multi-layer ring architecture with multiple switches is proposed and two general equations to count the number of ports are derived. Comparisons are made between the multi-layer multi-granularity switching (MM-XC) architecture and the reported architectures: multi-switching (M-XC) and single switching (S-XC) architectures. The results show that the M-XC or S-XC architectures can be deduced from the MM-XC architecture and the latter architecture can achieve more considerable savings of the port count compared to the former.  相似文献

In this paper, a new algorithm for wavelength assignment has been proposed and its performance is evaluated in terms of blocking probability and fairness. It has been shown that the proposed algorithm offers the least blocking probability. The blocking performance of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network has been analyzed for the network having 10 nodes and for varying loads. As the load per link (in Erlangs) increases, the blocking probability increases. The result shows that the performance of first-fit algorithm is better than random algorithm whereas the proposed algorithm offers the least blocking.  相似文献

An important characteristic of tunable lasers, that may affect system performance, is that they can generate light at various wavelengths as they tune between different wavelength channels. These spurious components could cause severe cross-channel interference if the tunable laser is used in a WDM network. In this paper, we investigate the effect of such interfering signals, generated by up to three tunable lasers during a switching event, on the BER of a data channel transmitted on the same wavelength as the spurious components. The results show that it is vital to attenuate the output of tunable lasers during their wavelength transition in order to prevent system performance degradation.  相似文献

研究不同的路由和波长分配(RWA)方法对无波长变换WDM网络P圈优化性能的影响.提出了用负载均衡的方法对各波长层的工作容量进行均衡,以降低网络总容量.分别研究了动态分层通用RWA(DL-GRWA)、最短路径RWA(SP-RWA)、动态分层负载均衡(DL-LB)、最短路径负载均衡(SP-LB)、固定波长负载均衡(FW-LB)5种方法对网络总容量的影响.仿真发现,无论何种RWA方法,随着圈最大跳数限制的变大,网络总容量都逐渐降低,其中SP-LB方法所需要的网络总容量最小.  相似文献

Storage area networks (SANs) are an essential part of enterprise computing today. There is no comprehensive business continuity plan without SANs in the picture. This paper proposes and evaluates network survivability of optical paths in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based storage area networks in a metro ring network. The paper begins with a background on network survivability in metro WDM ring network. Subsequently, the network and node architectures along with their medium access control (MAC) protocols are described. In this work, one link failure (a single cable cut) in metro WDM based SANs in a ring network architecture is considered. Performance evaluation for network survivability in metro WDM SAN is carried out by means of discrete-event computer simulation. Network throughput and packet delay are investigated. The network performance is evaluated for asymmetric (unbalanced) traffic scenarios under Poisson and self-similar traffic.  相似文献

As the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology matures and the demands for bandwidth increase, survivability becomes more and more important in generalized multi-protocol label switching (GMPLS) controlled intelligent optical networks (IONs). There are great interests to study the performance of restorability under one certain connection management strategy. And studies in the problem of providing recovery from link failures under two different resource reservation schemes, forward reservation protocols (FRPs) and backward reservation protocols (BRPs), are presented. They are examined from the point of view of connection blocking probability, restorability and average recovery time. The two different connection management schemes and the survey of different recovery schemes are first presented. The performance of these recovery strategies is analyzed and compared both through theoretical analysis and simulation results. The main stressed idea is that using BRPs gives the best performance in terms of restorability and blocking probability in restorable GMPLS networks.  相似文献

<正>Two novel dynamical quality of transmission(QoT) optimization schemes with explicit optimization targets and accurate end-to-end QoT estimation are proposed for reconfigurable transparent wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM) networks.Numerical simulations show that the scheme of quality(Q) best has the best Q factor improvement with large attenuation adjustment.The scheme of Q allowable can achieve minimized number of tuning sites and attenuation adjustment and also improve the Q factor of light path to the required value.In addition,the idea of dynamic QoT optimization and global impairment control has been experimentally demonstrated on a simple mesh network by the cooperation of a control plane and tunable devices.  相似文献

Critical applications require proactive-based survivability strategy which provides 100% degree of survivability, low blocking probability and very low restoration time. In this paper, we have proposed an efficient proactive restoration approach for WDM optical network that efficiently utilizes the resources and reduces blocking probability as compared to existing proactive restoration approach. It gives priority to primary lightpath as compared to backup lightpath because primary lightpath should not share resources with other lightpaths in critical applications but backup lightpaths can share the resources, i.e. backup multiplexing.  相似文献

In this paper, we have developed a low complexity mathematical model which is used for the calculation of blocking probability of network and this model does not require any simulation statistics. The implementation of the model proposed has less complexity and the computation used in this model is quite efficient. This paper suggests an optimum path as a solution to routing problem and the appropriate number of wavelengths have also been suggested which should be free in a network to have the least blocking probability. This model can be implemented on different network topologies. Further, the model is also used to evaluate the blocking performance of NSFNet topology and hence used to improve its performance on the basis of blocking probability.  相似文献

This paper proposes the introduction of the multiwavelength technique in the three layers of a SDH-based network. In the trunk layer, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) takes advantage of the optical parallelism in a single fiber. Cross-connection can be achieved either passively (i.e., with tunable filters) or by means of wavelength converters. The latter solution, which offers high flexibility, was implemented in a 4 × 4 optical routing element. In the junction network the feasibility of a three-station WDM self-healing ring was demonstrated. Finally, in the access network, synchronous burst access and time and wavelength division multiplexing (T/WDM) switching is proposed to offer service flexibility to the subscribers.  相似文献

This paper describes the applications of a multipurpose holographic device in optical networks with Coarse and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM/ DWDM) technologies. In its basic structure, it can operate as a tunable wavelength filter, wavelength multiplexer or λ router. By using a more complex structure, the device works as OADM (Optical Add Drop Multiplexer) or OS (Optical Switch). Some simulations of the basic devices, from the optical transmission point of view, are made to match the transmission parameters for the application in optical networks. Performance parameters of the device, like switching time, losses, cross-talk or polarization insensitivity are analyzed and compared with other multiplexing or switching technologies. To complete the review of these components, a study of computer generated holograms (CGH) design is carried out. The results are used in the design of holographic devices to perform different applications: in Metro networks, where a design of a holographic device with wavelength conversion and routing is analyzed, or, in Access Networks like a tunable filter or demultiplexer in Fiber to the Home/Business (FTTH/FTTB) topologies.  相似文献

<正>A novel heuristic algorithm that considers transmission impairment(especially amplified spontaneous emission(ASE) noise) is developed for traffic grooming in wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) optical networks.Span constraints,which are determined by the impairment,are added to constrain the maximal transparent reach limit of a lightpath.Under span constraints,a series of short lightpaths will be built up explicitly to relay traffic when a single lightpath cannot meet the requirement of transmission quality.Both problem formulations and heuristic algorithms are given for impairment-aware traffic grooming.Numerical results show that the successful routing of each low-speed traffic stream is guaranteed and the efficiency of wavelength channels and lightpath usage are both improved by considering transmission impairment.  相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of dynamic protected lightpath services provisioning in optical mesh networks employing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). A variety of schemes for dynamic protected services provisioning have been proposed, supporting a range of tradeoffs among restoration speed, capacity efficiency, and scalability. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme, called p-cycles-based maximum protected working capacity envelope (PC-MPWCE), which can offer an attractive combination of fea-tures: ring-like speed, mesh-like capacity efficiency, and good scalability. To evaluate the performance of PC-MPWCE, we compare it via simulation with 1 + 1 automatic protection switching (APS) and two well-known shared backup path protection (SBPP) on NSFNET. Our simulation results show that PCMPWCE can achieve much better blocking performance than 1 + 1 APS, and perform the similar blocking performance and capacity efficiency as SBPP.  相似文献

Since the optical network carries a lot of traffic, the survivability is an important issue to ensure the service continuity. At the same time, with the network scale increasing, the optical network has been divided into multi-domains each of which is managed by a unique network provider. Therefore, the survivability in multi-domain optical networks has got more attention in recent years. However, current works mostly addressed the unicast survivability and few or no solved the multicast survivability in multi-domain optical networks. Therefore, in this paper we propose two heuristic algorithms called Multicast Multi-domain Dedicated Protection (MMDP) and Multicast Multi-domain Shared Protection (MMSP) to provide the survivability in multicast multi-domain optical networks. In MMDP and MMSP, to provide the intra-domain protection, we use the modified Minimal-cost Path Heuristic (MPH) algorithm to compute the intra-domain survivable multicast tree. To provide the inter-domain protection, based on multi-domain logical topology, we firstly use the MPH algorithm to compute the inter-domain logical multicast tree and then use the Dijkstra algorithm to compute the inter-domain logical backup sub-path for each inter-link on this logical multicast tree. Simulation results show that MMSP has better resource utilization efficiency and lower blocking probability.  相似文献

Abstract

This article compares the performance of WDM lightpath protection and IP LSP protection schemes for IP-over-WDM networks. A mathematical formulation of the maximum throughput problem is presented and analytical expressions for recovery time are derived for both schemes. The throughputs and recovery times are analyzed and compared. Results show that the IP LSP protection scheme presents higher throughputs then WDM lightpath protection. The IP LSP protection scheme, providing individual IP LSP protection has, however, scalability problems. This scheme presents high recovery times when a failure affects many lightpaths and many hops are allowed for the primary routes of IP LSPs.  相似文献

In this paper, low-complexity mathematical model has been developed which is used for the calculation of the blocking probability of network and this model does not require any simulation statistics. The routing algorithm has also been proposed in this paper depending upon the proposed model, which is very efficient in calculation and minimization of the blocking probability. This algorithm suggests an optimum path as a solution to routing problem. The wavelength assignment technique has also been suggested in this paper to minimize the blocking probability. The proposed model and algorithms can be implemented on different network topologies. Furthermore, the model, routing algorithm and wavelength assignment technique is also used to evaluate the blocking performance of NSFNet and EUPAN Network topology and hence used to improve its performance on the basis of the blocking probability.  相似文献

In this paper, we have presented four variations of applying the same routing algorithm for primary and backup lightpaths, wavelength assignment strategy for survivability. The simulation results show that although everything is the same, yet how and when they are applied leads to variations in results in terms of number of connections accepted. The backup multiplexing technique has been incorporated to reduce the blocking probability in all the strategies. The results have been calculated both for the systems that require 100% degree of survivability, i.e. critical, and for those that do not. The variation to be used depends upon whether the application is critical or not.  相似文献
