In this paper, we consider a dissipative-dispersive nonlinear equation appliable to many physical phenomena. Using the geometric singular perturbation method based on the theory of dynamical systems, we investigate the existence of its traveling wave solutions with the dissipative terms having sufficiently small coefficients. The results show that the traveling waves exist on a two-dimensional slow manifold in a three-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Then, we use the Melnikov method to establish the existence of a homoclinic orbit in this manifold corresponding to a solitary wave solution of the equation. Furthermore, we present some numerical computations to show the approximations of such wave orbits.  相似文献

A general theorem that guarantees the existence of an orbit connecting two hyperbolic equilibria of a parametrized autonomous differential equation in \({\mathbb {R}}^n\) near a suitable approximate connecting orbit given the invertibility of a certain explicitly given matrix is proved. Numerical implementation of the theorem is described using five examples including two Sil’nikov saddle-focus homoclinic orbits and a Sil’nikov saddle-focus heteroclinic cycle.  相似文献

This paper presents the analysis of the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of a cantilever beam subjected to a harmonic axial excitation and transverse excitations at the free end. The governing nonlinear equations of nonplanar motion with parametric and external excitations are obtained. The Galerkin procedure is applied to the partial differential governing equation to obtain a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with parametric and forcing excitations. The resonant case considered here is 2:1 internal resonance, principal parametric resonance-1/2 subharmonic resonance for the in-plane mode and fundamental parametric resonance–primary resonance for the out-of-plane mode. The parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations by using the method of multiple scales. From the averaged equation obtained here, the theory of normal form is applied to find the explicit formulas of normal forms associated with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. Based on the normal form obtained above, a global perturbation method is utilized to analyze the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. The global bifurcation analysis indicates that there exist the heteroclinic bifurcations and the Silnikov type single-pulse homoclinic orbit in the averaged equation for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. These results show that the chaotic motions can occur in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. Numerical simulations verify the analytical predictions.  相似文献

Motivated by a problem in which a heteroclinic orbit represents a moving interface between ordered and disordered crystalline states, we consider a class of slow–fast Hamiltonian systems in which the slow manifold loses normal hyperbolicity due to a transcritical or pitchfork bifurcation as a slow variable changes. We show that under assumptions appropriate to the motivating problem, a singular heteroclinic solution gives rise to a true heteroclinic solution. In contrast to previous approaches to such problems, our approach uses blow-up of the bifurcation manifold, which allows geometric matching of inner and outer solutions.  相似文献

A procedure is derived which allows for a systematic construction of three-dimensional ordinary differential equations having homoclinic solutions. The equations are proved to exhibit codimension-two homoclinic bifurcation points. Examples include the non-orientable resonant bifurcation, the inclination-flip, and the orbit-flip. In addition, an equation is constructed which has a homoclinic orbit converging to a saddle-focus satisfying Shilnikov's condition. The vector fields are polynomial and non-stiff in that the eigenvalues are of moderate size.  相似文献

We consider a four-dimensional Hamiltonian system representing the reduced-order (two-mode) dynamics of a buckled beam, where the nonlinearity comes from the axial deformation in moderate displacements, according to classical theories. The system has a saddle-center equilibrium point, and we pay attention to the existence and detection of the stable?Cunstable nonlinear manifold and of homoclinic solutions, which are the sources of complex and chaotic dynamics observed in the system response. The system has also a coupling nonlinear parameter, which depends on the boundary conditions, and is zero, e.g., for the beam hinged?Chinged ends and different from zero, e.g., for the beam fixed?Cfixed ends. The invariant manifold in the latter case is detected assuming that it can be represented as a graph over the plane spanned by the unstable (principal) variable and its velocity. We show by a series solution that the manifold exists but has a limited extension, not sufficient for the deployment of the homoclinic orbit. Thus, the homoclinic orbit is addressed directly, irrespective of its belonging to the invariant manifold. By means of the perturbation method, it is shown that it exists only on some curves of the governing parameters space, which branch from a fundamental path. This shows that the homoclinic orbit is not generic. These results have been confirmed by numerical simulations and by a different analytical technique.  相似文献

Homoclinic orbits in a shallow arch subjected to periodic excitation are investigated in the presence of 1:1 internal resonance and external resonance. The method of multiple scales is used to obtain a set of near-integrable systems. The geometric singular perturbation method and Melnikov method are employed to show the existence of the one-bump and multi-bump homoclinic orbits that connect equilibria in a resonance band of the slow manifold. These orbits arise from singular homoclinic orbits and are composed of alternating slow and fast pieces. The result obtained imply the existence of the amplitude-modulated chaos for the Smale horseshoe sense in the class of shallow arch systems.  相似文献

Global bifurcations and chaos in modal interactions of an imperfect circular plate with one-to-one internal resonance are investigated. The case of primary resonance, in which an excitation frequency is near natural frequencies, is considered. The damping force is not included in the analysis. The method of multiple scales is used to obtain an autonomous system from a non-autonomous system of ordinary differential equations governing non-linear oscillations of an imperfect circular plate. The Melnikov's method for heteroclinic orbits of the autonomous system is used to obtain the criteria for chaotic motion. It is shown that the existence of heteroclinic orbits in the unperturbed system implies chaos arising from breaking of heteroclinic orbits under perturbation. The validity of the result is checked numerically. It is also observed numerically that chaos can appear due to breaking of invariant tori under perturbation.  相似文献

Based on temporal rescaling and harmonic balance, an extended asymptotic perturbation method for parametrically excited two-degree-of-freedom systems with square and cubic nonlinearities is proposed to study the nonlinear dynamics under 1:2 internal resonance. This asymptotic perturbation method is employed to transform the two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear systems into a four-dimensional nonlinear averaged equation governing the amplitudes and phases of the approximation solutions. Linear stable analysis at equilibrium solutions of the averaged equation is done to show bifurcations of periodic motion and homoclinic motions. Furthermore, analytical expressions of homoclinic orbits and heteroclinic cycles for the averaged equation without dampings are obtained. Considering the action of the damping, the bifurcations of limit cycles are also investigated. A concrete example is further provided to discuss the correctness and accuracy of the extended asymptotic perturbation method in the case of small-amplitude motion for the two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system.  相似文献

Based on the Timoshenko beam theory, the finite-deflection and the axial inertia are taken into account, and the nonlinear partial differential equations for flexural waves in a beam are derived. Using the traveling wave method and integration skills, the nonlinear partial differential equations can be converted into an ordinary differential equation. The qualitative analysis indicates that the corresponding dynamic system has a heteroclinic orbit under a certain condition. An exact periodic solution of the nonlinear wave equation is obtained using the Jacobi elliptic function expansion. When the modulus of the Jacobi elliptic function tends to one in the degenerate case, a shock wave solution is given. The small perturbations are further introduced, arising from the damping and the external load to an original Hamilton system, and the threshold condition of the existence of the transverse heteroclinic point is obtained using Melnikov's method. It is shown that the perturbed system has a chaotic property under the Smale horseshoe transform.  相似文献

This paper discusses the complex dynamics of a new four-dimensional continuous-time autonomous hyperchaotic Lorenz-type system. The local dynamics, such as the stability, pitchfork bifurcation, and Hopf bifurcation at equilibria of this hyperchaotic system are analyzed by using the parameter-dependent center manifold theory and the normal form theory. The existence of homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits of this hyperchaotic system is further rigorously studied. More exactly, under some special parameter conditions, the fact that this hyperchaotic system has no homoclinic orbit but has two and only two heteroclinic orbits are proved.  相似文献

Dynamical behavior of nonlinear oscillator under combined parametric and forcing excitation, which includes van der Pol damping, is very complex. In this paper, Melnikov'smethod is used to study the heteroclinic orbit bifurcations, subharmonic bifurcations and chaos in this system. Smale horseshoes and chaotic motions can occur from odd subharmonic bifurcation of infinite order in this system for various resonant cases. Finally the numerical computing method is used to study chaotic motions of this system. The results achieved reveal some new phenomena.  相似文献

This paper describes a new type of orbits homoclinic to resonance bands in a class of near-integrable Hamiltonian systems. It presents a constructive method for establishing whether small conservative perturbations of a family of heteroclinic orbits that connect pairs of points on a circle of equilibria will yield transverse homoclinic connections between periodic orbits in the resonance band resulting from the perturbation. In any given example, this method may be used to prove the existence of such transverse homoclinic orbits, as well as to determine their precise shape, their asymptotic behavior, and their possible bifurcations. The method is a combination of the Melnikov method and geometric singular perturbation theory for ordinary differential equations.  相似文献

In this paper,we use the Melnikov function method to study a kind of soft Duffing equations(?) Af((?),x) x-x~(2k 1)=r[M(x,(?))cosωt N(x,(?))sinωt](k=1,2,3…)and give the condition that the equations have chaotic motion and bifurcation. The method used in this paper is effective for dealing with the Melnikov function integral of the system whose explict expression of the homoclinic or heteroclinic orbit cannot be given.  相似文献

A nonlinear frequency-amplitude relation is developed to investigate the vibrational amplitude effect on the dynamic pull-in instability of double-sided-actuated nano-torsional switches. The governing equation of a nano-electro-mechanical system pre-deformed by an electric field contains the quintic nonlinear term. The influences of basic parameters on the pull-in instability and natural frequency are investigated using a powerful analytical approach called the homotopy perturbation method. It is demonstrated that two terms in series expansion are sufficient to produce an acceptable solution. The numerical results obtained have verified the soundness of the asymptotic procedure. The phase portraits of the double-sided nano-torsionalactuator exhibit periodic, homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits.  相似文献
