We prove the integral Novikov conjecture for torsion free S-arithmetic subgroups Γ of linear reductive algebraic groups G of rank 0 over a global field k. They form a natural class of groups and are in general not discrete subgroups of Lie groups with finitely many connected components. Since many natural S-arithmetic subgroups contain torsion elements, we also prove a generalized integral Novikov conjecture for S-arithmetic subgroups of such algebraic groups, which contain torsion elements. These S-arithmetic subgroups also provide a natural class of groups with cofinite universal spaces for proper actions. Partially Supported by NSF grants DMS 0405884 and 0604878.  相似文献

We prove that the Novikov assembly map for a group factorizes,in ‘low homological degree’, through the algebraicK-theory of its integral group ring. In homological degree 2,this answers a question posed by N. Higson and P. Julg. As adirect application, we prove that if is torsion-free and satisfiesthe Baum-Connes conjecture, then the homology group H1(; Z)injects in and in , for any ring A such that . Hirano studied the quasi-Armendariz property of rings, and then this concept was generalized by some authors, defining quasi-Armendariz property for skew polynomial rings and monoid rings. In this article, we consider unified approach to the quasi-Armendariz property of skew power series rings and skew polynomial rings by considering the quasi-Armendariz condition in mixed extension ring [R; I][x; σ], introducing the concept of so-called (σ, I)-quasi Armendariz ring, where R is an associative ring equipped with an endomorphism σ and I is an σ-stable ideal of R. We study the ring-theoretical properties of (σ, I)-quasi Armendariz rings, and we obtain various necessary or sufficient conditions for a ring to be (σ, I)-quasi Armendariz. Constructing various examples, we classify how the (σ, I)-quasi Armendariz property behaves under various ring extensions. Furthermore, we show that a number of interesting properties of an (σ, I)-quasi Armendariz ring R such as reflexive and quasi-Baer property transfer to its mixed extension ring and vice versa. In this way, we extend the well-known results about quasi-Armendariz property in ordinary polynomial rings and skew polynomial rings for this class of mixed extensions. We pay also a particular attention to quasi-Gaussian rings.  相似文献

We study ideals of Novikov algebras and Novikov structures on finite-dimensional Lie algebras. We present the first example of a three-step nilpotent Lie algebra which does not admit a Novikov structure. On the other hand we show that any free three-step nilpotent Lie algebra admits a Novikov structure. We study the existence question also for Lie algebras of triangular matrices. Finally we show that there are families of Lie algebras of arbitrary high solvability class which admit Novikov structures.  相似文献

The Jacobson radical of an endomorphism ring is computed for a completely decomposable torsion-free Abelian group and for a mixed Abelian group in one class of mixed groups. We establish an equivariant generalization of the Novikov inequalities which allows us to estimate the topology of the set of critical points of a closed basic invariant form by means of twisted equivariant cohomology of the manifold. We apply these inequalities to study cohomology of the fixed points set of a symplectic torus action. We show that in this case our inequalities are perfect, i.e. they are in fact equalities.  相似文献

We investigate the classical Zassenhaus conjecture for the unit group of the integral group ring of Mathieu simple group M 23 using the Luthar–Passi method. This work is a continuation of the research that we carried out for Mathieu groups M 11 and M 12. As a consequence, for this group we confirm Kimmerle's conjecture on prime graphs.  相似文献

We show that for each discrete group Γ, the rational assembly map
is injective on classes dual to , where Λ* is the subring generated by cohomology classes of degree at most 2 (and where the pairing uses the Chern character). Our result implies homotopy invariance of higher signatures associated to classes in Λ*. This consequence was first established by Connes–Gromov–Moscovici (Geom. Funct. Anal. 3(1): 1–78, 1993) and Mathai (Geom. Dedicata 99: 1–15, 2003). Note, however that the above injectivity statement does not follow from their methods. Our approach is based on the construction of flat twisting bundles out of sequences of almost flat bundles as first described in our work (Hanke and Schick, J. Differential Geom. 74: 293–320, 2006). In contrast to the argument in Connes-Gromov-Moscovici (Geom. Funct.Anal. 3(1): 1–78, 1993), our approach is independent of (and indeed gives a new proof of) the result of Hilsum–Skandalis (J. Reine Angew. Math. 423: 73–99, 1999) on the homotopy invariance of the index of the signature operator twisted with bundles of small curvature.   相似文献

The Novikov equation and a negative flow of the Novikov hierarchy are related to a negative flow of the Sawada–Kotera hierarchy and the Sawada–Kotera equation by reciprocal transformations, respectively. With the help of the Darboux transformations for the negative flow of the Sawada–Kotera hierarchy, the Sawada–Kotera equation and reciprocal transformations, we obtain a parametric representation for N-soliton solutions to the Novikov equation and the negative flow of the Novikov hierarchy.  相似文献

In this paper bounded surgery obstruction groups for some noncoarsely uniformly contractible spaces are computed. These spaces are constructed out of the union of countably many spheres of fixed dimension and increasing radii. These results support the coarse Novikov conjecture: the coarse homology of the space with coefficients in theory injects into the bounded L-group.  相似文献

We give a basis of bideterminants for the coordinate ring K[O(n)] of the orthogonal group O(n,K), where K is an infinite field of characteristic not 2. The bideterminants are indexed by pairs of Young tableaux which are O(n)-standard in the sense of King–Welsh. We also give an explicit filtration of K[O(n)] as an O(n,K)-bimodule, whose factors are isomorphic to the tensor product of orthogonal analogs of left and right Schur modules.  相似文献

We show that the Strong Novikov Conjecture for the maximal C*-algebra C*(π) of a discrete group π is equivalent to a statement in topological K-theory for which the corresponding statement in algebraic K-theory is always true.
