Nuclear Köthe sequence spaceλ(P) its crossdualλ(P) x and their non-nuclear variants are examined as topological algebras. Modelling on them, a general theory of nuclear topological algebras with orthogonal basis is developed. As a by-product, abstract characterizations of sequence algebras ? andc 0 are obtained. Let B be a manifold with conical singularities, and denote by the smooth bounded manifold with cylindrical ends obtained by blowing up near the singularities.B.-W. Schulze has developed a framework for a pseudodifferential calculus on B by defining various classes of distribution spaces and operator algebras, working in fixed coordinates on the manifold . I am showing here that the Mellin Sobolev spaces without asymptotics, the cone algebra without asymptotics, and its ideal of smoothing operators are independent of the choice of coordinates and therefore may be considered intrinsic objects for manifolds with conical singularities.  相似文献

For a compact Lie group G we prove that every free (resp., semifree) G-space admits a based-free (resp., semifree) G-compactification. Examples of finite- and infinite-dimensional G-spaces are presented that do not admit a free or based-free G-compactification. We give several characterizations of the maximal G-compactification βGX that are further applied to prove the formula (βGX)/HG/H(X/H) for arbitrary closed normal subgroup HG. The automorphism group of a G-structure of finite type and order k on a smooth n-dimensional orbifold is proved to be a Lie group of dimension n+dim(g+g 1+...+g k-1), where g i is the ith prolongation of the Lie algebra g of a given group G. This generalizes the corresponding result by Ehresmann for finite type G-structures on manifolds. The presence of orbifold points is shown to sharply decrease the dimension of the automorphism group of proper orbifolds. Estimates are established for the dimension of the isometry group and the dimension of the group of conformal transformations of Riemannian orbifolds, depending on the types of orbifold points.  相似文献

For the single server system under processor sharing (PS) a sample path result for the sojourn times in a busy period is proved, which yields a sample path relation between the sojourn times under PS and FCFS discipline. This relation provides a corresponding one between the mean stationary sojourn times in G/G/1 under PS and FCFS. In particular, the mean stationary sojourn time in G/D/1 under PS is given in terms of the mean stationary sojourn time under FCFS, generalizing known results for GI/M/1 and M/GI/1. Extensions of these results suggest an approximation of the mean stationary sojourn time in G/GI/1 under PS in terms of the mean stationary sojourn time under FCFS. The distribution of the remaining service time upon reaching some target level in an M/G/1 queue is of theoretical as well as practical interest. In general, this distribution depends on the initial level as well as on the target level, say, B. Two initial levels are of particular interest, namely, level 1 (i.e., upon arrival to an empty system) and level B–1 (i.e., upon departure at the target level).In this paper, we consider a busy cycle and show that the remaining service time distribution, upon reaching a high level B due to an arrival, converges to a limiting distribution for B. We determine this asymptotic distribution upon the first hit (i.e., starting with an arrival to an empty system) and upon subsequent hits (i.e., starting with a departure at the target) into a high target level B. The form of the limiting (asymptotic) distribution of the remaining service time depends on whether the system is stable or not. The asymptotic analysis in this paper also enables us to obtain good analytical approximations of interesting quantities associated with rare events, such as overflow probabilities.  相似文献

We consider M/G/1-type queueing systems with disasters, occurring at certain random times and causing an instantaneous removal of the entire residual workload from the system. After such a clearing, the system is assumed to be ready to start working again immediately. The intuition while observing the economy of queueing systems, is that one’s motivation to join the system, decreases with its level of congestion. Here we present a queueing model where sometimes the opposite is the case. The point of departure is the standard first-come first-served single server queue with Poisson arrivals. Customers commence service immediately if upon their arrival the server is idle. Otherwise, they are informed if the queue is empty or not. Then, they have to decide whether to join or not. We assume that the customers are homogeneous and when they consider whether to join or not, they assess their queueing costs against their reward due to service completion. As the whereabouts of customers interact, we look for the (possibly mixed) join/do not join Nash equilibrium strategy, a strategy that if adopted by all, then under the resulting steady-state conditions, no one has any incentive not to follow it oneself. We show that when the queue is empty then depending on the service distribution, both ‘avoid the crowd’ (ATC) and ‘follow the crowd’ (FTC) scenarios (as well as none-of-the-above) are possible. When the queue is not empty, the situation is always that of ATC. Also, we show that under Nash equilibrium it is possible (depending on the service distribution) that the joining probability when the queue is empty is smaller than it is when the queue is not empty.
