LetF be a foliation of a compact manifold with a transverse invariant measure of finite total mass. We prove that ifF admits a leafwise metric such that every leaf is an irreducible symmetric space of noncompact type and higher rank, then any other leafwise metric of nonpositive curvature is also symmetric along any leaf in the support of the transverse measure. Riemannian foliations are characterized as those foliations whose holonomy pseudogroup consists of local isometries of a Riemannian manifold. Their main structural features are well understood since the work of Molina. In this paper we analyze the more general concept of equicontinuous pseudogroup of homeomorphisms, which gives rise to the notion of equicontinuous foliated space. We show that equicontinuous foliated spaces have structural properties similar to those known for Riemannian foliations: the universal covers of their leaves are in the same quasi-isometry class, leaf closures are homogeneous spaces, and the holonomy pseudogroup is indeed given by local isometries.  相似文献

Simplicial volumes measure the complexity of fundamental cycles of manifolds. In this article, we consider the relation between the simplicial volume and two of its variants — the stable integral simplicial volume and the integral foliated simplicial volume. The definition of the latter depends on a choice of a measure preserving action of the fundamental group on a probability space.  相似文献

In this article, we show that the Newton transformations of the shape operator can be applied successfully to foliated manifolds. Using these transformations, we generalize known integral formulae (due to Brito–Langevin–Rosenberg, Ranjan, Walczak, etc.) for foliations of codimension one. We obtain integral formulae involving rth mean curvature of the second fundamental form of a foliation, the Jacobi operator in the direction orthogonal to the foliation, and their products. We apply our formulae to totally umbilical foliations and foliations whose leaves have constant second order mean curvature.  相似文献

The coefficients of the complete set of n fundamental forms of a hypersuface Vn−1 imbedded in an n-dimensional Riemannian space Vn, as recently introduced[(5)], are used to construct certain tensor fields over Vn−1 which display some remarkable features. In particular, the divergences of these tensor fields can be expressed very simply in terms of polynomials involving the curvature tensor of Vn, the coefficients of the n fundamental forms, and the rth curvatures of Vn−1. As the result of an application of the generalized divergence theorem of Gauss to these relations a set of integral formulae on Vn−1 is obtained. The integrands of these integral formulae can be expressed very simply in terms of the n fundamental forms of Vn−1. By successive specialization it is indicated how known integral theorems([2], [3], [6], [7], [8]) can be derived as particular cases, which is possible partly as a result of the fact that the polynomial referred to above vanishes identically whenever Vn is a space of constant curvature. A visible action on a complex manifold is a holomorphic action that admits a J-transversal totally real submanifold S. It is said to be strongly visible if there exists an orbit-preserving anti-holomorphic diffeomorphism σ such that σ|S = id. In this paper we prove that for any Hermitian symmetric space D = G/K the action of any symmetric subgroup H is strongly visible. The proof is carried out by finding explicitly an orbit-preserving anti-holomorphic involution and a totally real submanifold S. Our geometric results provide a uniform proof of various multiplicity-free theorems of irreducible highest weight modules when restricted to reductive symmetric pairs, for both classical and exceptional cases, for both finite- and infinite-dimensional cases, and for both discrete and continuous spectra.  相似文献

Let G be a semisimple Lie group, g its Lie algebra. For any symmetric space M over G we construct a new (deformed) multiplication in the space A of smooth functions on M. This multiplication is invariant under the action of the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum group Uhg and is commutative with respect to an involutive operator . Such a multiplication is unique. Let M be a kählerian symmetric space with the canonical Poisson structure. Then we construct a Uhg-invariant multiplication in A which depends on two parameters and is a quantization of that structure.  相似文献

We study here systems of symmetries on |1|-graded parabolic geometries. We are interested in smooth systems of symmetries, and we discuss non-flat homogeneous |1|-graded geometries.
