Studies on xRO · 30Bi2O3 · (70−x)B2O3 glasses have been carried out (0 ? x ? 30 mol%, R = Zn, Ba). Elastic properties and Debye temperature have been investigated using sound velocity measurements at 4 MHz. The ultrasonic parameters along with the IR spectroscopic studies have been employed to explore the role of divalent cations in the structure of the studied glasses. Analysis of infrared spectra indicates that RO is preferentially incorporated into the borate network, forming BO4 units. It is assumed that Bi2O3 enters the structure in the form of BiO6 only. The change of density and molar volume with RO content reveals that BO4 units linked to R2+ cations are denser than those linked to positive sites in the Bi2O3 network. Predicted values of four co-ordinated boron put forward questions about the reliability of assignment of structural units that Bi2O3 may form.  相似文献

Reduction of Eu3+  Eu2+ and luminescence of europium (Eu) ions in glass ceramics containing SrF2 nanocrystals have been investigated. The formation of SrF2 nanocrystals in glass ceramics was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Blue luminescence of the Eu2+ ions was observed in the Eu doped glass ceramics which were prepared by the heat treatment of the glass in air atmosphere. The double-exponential decay curves of 5D0 state of Eu3+ in the Eu doped glass ceramics indicated that there were two different surroundings of the Eu ions in the glass ceramics.  相似文献

The sintering and crystallization of glass powders with chemical composition 47 PbO—38 B2O3—15 TiO2 (mole %) was investigated under non-isothermal conditions by shrinkage measurements, differential thermo-analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), dielectric measurement and positron annihilation (Doppler broadening). The correlation between changes of macroscopic properties and positron annihilation results recommends this method for the detection of structural changes in glasses.  相似文献

Glasses of the system: xBi2O3-(100−x)B2O3 (x = 20 to 66 mol%) were prepared and characterized by density, DSC, UV-visible absorption and 11B MAS-NMR spectroscopy. Glass molar volume increases while the glass transition temperature decreases with Bi2O3 concentration. Densities of some bismuth borate glasses are found to be greater or very close to those of single crystal phases with equal composition. B11 MAS-NMR studies determined that the fraction of tetrahedrally coordinated borons (N4) is maximum at 42 mol% of Bi2O3 and that there is a local maxima in N4 at Bi2O3 concentration of 50 mol%. Glasses containing Bi2O3 concentration of 33 mol% and higher show an unusual, intense absorption band just below the optical band gap. Two crystalline phases: Bi3B5O12 and Bi4B2O9 were prepared by devitrification of glasses and characterized by X-ray diffraction, FTIR and 11B MAS-NMR studies. Both crystalline phases contained significantly lower N4 than glasses with equal composition.  相似文献

Glasses in the ternary system xCuO?(100 ? x)[55B2O3·45ZnO] (0  x  20 mol%) have been prepared by melting at 1200 °C and rapidly cooling at room temperature. The effect of copper ions addition in 55B2O3·45ZnO glass matrix together with the matrix effect on paramagentic behavior has been investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis (DTA), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), ultraviolet–visible (UV–VIS) spectroscopy and density measurements. The increase of the number of non-bridging oxygen (NBO) atoms as a function of CuO content in these glasses leads to the decrease of glass polymerization which reduces the stability of the glasses and favors the association of copper ions in clusters. This leads to the major changes of structural and optical properties of the studied glasses as can be seen from the data obtained by FTIR and EPR spectroscopies.  相似文献

Transparent glasses of the composition 10RO.20Bi2O3.(70 − x) B2O3.xCuO [R = Ca, Ba] with x = 0, 0.4, 0.8 (wt.%) were prepared via melt-quenching technique and characterized using X-ray powder diffraction. Spectroscopic measurements, viz., optical absorption, EPR, FTIR and photoluminescence (PL) were studied at room temperature. Analysis of the present investigations indicates that the concentration of luminescence centers of bismuth ions (Bi2+ ions in visible region) decreased by the integration of BaO and also by increasing dopent concentration. It is also observed that addition of CuO decreases stability of the glass network in calcium series and strengthens in barium series.  相似文献

Copper oxidation states, structure and properties of xCuO · (50-x)PbO · 50B2O3 glasses were investigated. Both infrared (IR) and 11B magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopies were employed to determine the tetrahedral BO4 fraction in the glasses as a function of CuO content. IR study indicates that the replacement of Pb2+ by Cu2+ ions increases the BO3 units by converting BO4- containing groups into ring type metaborate groups. The oxidation states of copper ions in the glasses have been studied using both X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and the wet chemical method. For high CuO containing (?30 mol%) glasses, high Cu+ ion concentrations (Cu+/Cutot.>0.3) result in a relatively slow disproportionation of B4-containing groups because of the small coordination number of Cu+ compared to Cu2+ ions. Effects of both glass structure and redox states of copper ions on glass properties including density, Vickers’ hardness, coefficient of thermal expansion, and chemical durability have been discussed.  相似文献

Photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass is a photosensitive multi-component silicate glass. Photoinduced crystalline phase precipitation results in refractive index variations in UV exposed areas of PTR glass. The precipitation of silver containing particles which occurs during photo-thermo-refractive process increases the optical absorption of the samples in the range 350 nm to NIR wavelengths and the growth of sodium fluoride crystals and their aggregation increases light scattering in visible and NIR regions. We show that one effect of the UV-exposure is a decrease in the crystallization temperature by ~50 °C compared to the unexposed areas as measured by differential scanning calorimetry, which we attribute to an increase in nucleation rate. Using spectro-photometric measurements, a linear function is fitted to the changes in the amplitude of the absorption band of the silver containing particles versus the UV-dosage. The root mean square scatter of the data from the linear function is better than 0.99 and the slope of the function is 0.32 ± 0.01 cm/J. The IR absorption of PTR sample, measured by laser calorimetry shows that the increase of the absorption in infrared region at 1.1 μm, is due to the tail of the absorption band of silver containing particles having maximum at 465 nm. We finally show that after hyper-development, one effect of UV-exposure at 325 nm on the crystallization kinetics of PTR glasses is a decrease in particle sizes from micron size to nanometers size. But additional investigations demonstrate that smaller dosage UV-exposures (a few tens of milliwatts) increase the optical scattering by one order of magnitude. Optical micrographs taken after UV-exposure and hyper-development reveal the use of smaller dosages enhances nucleation rate without preventing the growth of large crystals and therefore induces higher scattering.  相似文献

Several series of potassium barium borate glasses have been investigated as to their rheological properties.It has been found, that all these glasses show deviations from ‘Newtonian’ behaviour below temperatures corresponding to viscosities of 1010 poises. The activation energies of viscous flow are linear in both the potassium and barium mole percentages.For the ternary systems the pre-exponential factors of the viscosities do not decrease considerably with increasing metal ion content, contratry to what has been found in binary systems.  相似文献

Glasses with composition 15 Li2O15K2O10Bi2O3(60 ? x) B2O3: xV2O5 where x = 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 mol% are prepared by normal melt-quench technique. Characterization of the prepared samples is done using X-ray diffraction, density and differential scanning calorimetry. The density and molar volume are found to increase with increasing x whereas the glass transition temperature decreases. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of the prepared samples are recorded using EPR-spectrometer operating in the X-band frequency. The resonance spectra are well resolved for x  5 mol% and the intensity of the resonance peak is found to increase with increasing x. The values of spin-Hamiltonian parameters (SHP) and molecular orbital coefficients are evaluated. From the values of SHPs it is concluded that V4+ ions in the present glass system exist as vanadyl ions in octahedral co-ordination with tetragonal compression. It is observed that the SPHs depend slightly on the relative concentration of V2O5. Further, the theoretical optical basicity of the glasses has also been evaluated and it is observed that the changes in optical basicity values are in accordance with the changes in SHPs.  相似文献

Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic data obtained for iron doped silica-bismuthate glasses were used to investigate the changes induced in the local structure of samples as the ratio between Bi2O3 and SiO2 content changes from 3 to 0.66. The environment of constituent cations was investigated both in vitreous and partially crystallized samples of same composition. Progressive substitution of Bi2O3 by SiO2 contributes to the structural relaxation of vitreous network and enhances glass stability. By crystallization heat treatment the structural units appear to be more uniform as it results from the narrowing of corresponding IR bands and EPR lines. FTIR data show that more affected by composition and heat treatment is the environment of bismuth than that of silicon. EPR data indicate an ordering tendency with SiO2 content in glasses, while in vitroceramics the iron environment is much uniform in samples with less SiO2 content, where Bi12SiO20 phase is developed.  相似文献

The rheological behaviour of boric oxide and alkali borate glasses has been studied in the region of high viscosity (1010–1013 poise). We studied a set of float glass samples prepared with different fictive temperatures by previous annealing around the glass transition temperature. We compared the results to previous measurements on a series of amorphous silica samples, also prepared with different fictive temperatures. We showed that the modifications on the structure at a local scale are very small, the changes of physical properties are moderate but the changes on density fluctuations at a nanometer scale are rather large: 12% and 20% in float glass and silica, for relative changes of fictive temperature equal to 13% and 25% respectively. Local order and mechanical properties of silica vary in the opposite way compared to float glass (anomalous behavior) but the density fluctuations in both glasses increase with temperature and fictive temperature.  相似文献

Some structure parameters of niobium borate glasses have been determined with the analytical data of X-ray diffraction and IR spectra. On the basis of experimental results, the model of the Nb2O5---B2O3---K2O (NBK) glass network was inferred to be framed by circular structural units which are composed of six-membered and four-membered groups of NbO6, BO4 and BO3 polyhedra in the glasses.  相似文献

The effects of the substitution of fluoride ions for oxide ions on the thermal and optical properties of ternary ZnO-Bi2O3-P2O5 glass with low-P2O5 content (20-25 mol%) were investigated. Fluoride ions were introduced into the glass up to about 12 mol% as ZnF2. Raman spectra indicated that fluoride ions were substituted for oxide ions connected with bismuth ions. Deformation and glass transition temperatures decreased monotonically with fluorine concentration. The absorption edge shifted toward higher energies with increasing fluorine concentration by about 0.3 eV for 12 mol% ZnF2 substitution. The blue shift of the absorption edge is attributable to two effects. One was a blue shift of an absorption band which was observed as a peak at 4.7 eV in the reflection spectra and was attributed to the spin forbidden 6s-6p interband transition in Bi3+ ions. The blue shift originates from a change in electron-donating ability through anions as expected from electronegativity or optical basicity. Another is a disappearance of a shoulder at around 4.3 eV in the reflection spectra. The latter was the major reason for the large blue shift of the absorption edge energy, because the band relating to the 4.3 eV shoulder is close to the absorption edge.  相似文献

Raman spectra of alkali and alkaline-earth borate glasses are reported. These spectra are used to discuss the molecular structure of the glasses. The influence of additions of Al2O3 on the structure of alkali borate glasses is also presented. The experimental evidence indicates that the same type of groups are present in borate glasses as in crystalline borates. The presence of tetraborate, metaborate, pyroborate and orthoborate groups in borate glasses is strongly suggested by the Raman spectra.  相似文献
