The thermal behavior of the 309-atom Lennard-Jones cluster, whose structure is a complete Mackay icosahedron, has been studied by parallel tempering Monte Carlo simulations. Surprisingly for a magic number cluster, the heat capacity shows a very pronounced peak before melting, which is attributed to several coincident structural transformation processes. The main transformation is somewhat akin to surface roughening and involves a cooperative condensation of vacancies and adatoms that leads to the formation of pits and islands one or two layers thick on the Mackay icosahedron. The second transition in order of importance involves a whole scale transformation of the cluster structure and leads to a diverse set of twinned structures that are assemblies of face-centered-cubic tetrahedra with six atoms along their edges, i.e., one atom more than the edges of the 20 tetrahedra that make up the 309-atom Mackay icosahedron. A surface reconstruction of the icosahedron from a Mackay to an anti-Mackay overlayer is also observed, but with a lower probability.  相似文献

A new series of heavy metal oxide (PbO) based zinc borate glasses in the chemical composition of (95-x)B(2)O(3)-5ZnO-xPbO (x=10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 mol%) have been prepared to verify their UV filtering performance. Both direct and indirect optical band gaps (E(opt)) have been evaluated for these glasses. For a reference glass of 45B(2)O(3)-5ZnO-50PbO, refractive indices at different wavelengths are measured and found the results satisfactorily correlated with the theoretical data upon the computation of Cauchy's constants of A=1.766029949, B=159531.024 nm(2) and C=-1.078 x 10(10) nm(4). Measurements concerning X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, differential scanning colorimeter (DSC) profiles have been carried out for this glass. The FT-IR profile has revealed that the glass has both BO(3) and BO(4) units. From DSC thermogram, glass transition temperature (T(g)), crystallization temperature (T(c)) and melting temperature (T(m)) have been located and from them, other related parameters of the glass have also been calculated. Visible absorption spectra of 45B(2)O(3)-5ZnO-(50-x)PbO-xCuO (x=0. 1, 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0 mol%) have revealed two absorption bands at around 400 nm ((2)B(1g)-->(2)E(g)) and 780 nm ((2)B(1g)-->(2)B(2g)) of Cu(2+) ions, respectively. Emission bands at 422 and 512 nm are found for the 1 mol % CuO doped glass with excitations at 306 and 332 nm.  相似文献

The prominent (SiO(2))(8)O(2)H(3) (-) mass peak resulting from the laser ablation of hydroxylated silica, attributed to magic cluster formation, is investigated employing global optimization with a dedicated interatomic potential and density functional calculations. The low-energy spectra of cluster isomers are calculated for the closed shell clusters: (SiO(2))(8)OH(-) and (SiO(2))(8)O(2)H(3) (-) giving the likely global minima in each case. Based upon our calculated cluster structures and energetics, and further on the known experimental details, it is proposed that the abundant formation of (SiO(2))(8)O(2)H(3) (-) clusters is largely dependent on the high stability of the (SiO(2))(8)OH(-) ground state cluster. Both the (SiO(2))(8)O(2)H(3) (-) and (SiO(2))(8)OH(-) ground state clusters are found to exhibit cagelike structures with the latter containing a particularly unusual tetrahedrally four-coordinated oxygen center not observed before in either bulk silica or silica clusters. The bare ground state (SiO(2))(8)O(2-) cluster ion core is also found to have four tetrahedrally symmetric Si==O terminations making it a possible candidate, when combined with suitable cations, for extended cluster-based structures/materials.  相似文献

The new compounds CpV(B(3)H(8))(2), CpCr(B(3)H(8))(2), and Cp(2)Co(2)(B(6)H(14)) have been synthesized by treating the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl complexes [CpVCl(2)](3), [CpCrCl(2)](2), and [CpCoCl](2) with NaB(3)H(8). X-ray crystallography shows that CpV(B(3)H(8))(2) and CpCr(B(3)H(8))(2) have the same ligand sets but different molecular structures: the vanadium compound contains two bidentate B(3)H(8) ligands (i.e., bound to the metal center via two vicinal hydrogen atoms), whereas the chromium compound has one bidentate B(3)H(8) ligand and one B(3)H(8) ligand bound in an unprecedented fashion via two geminal hydrogen atoms. The "gem-bound" B(3)H(8) group itself has an atypical structure consisting of a BH(2)-BH(2)-BH(3) triangle with one additional hydrogen atom bridging the unique BH(2)-BH(2) edge. The B-B distances are nearly identical within experimental error at 1.790(5), 1.792(5), and 1.786(6) Angstrom. The relationship between the electronic and molecular structures of the V and Cr compounds is briefly discussed. The structure of Cp(2)Co(2)(B(6)H(14)) can be viewed in two different ways: as a dicobalt complex in which two CpCo units are each bound to four adjacent boron atoms of an S-shaped B(6)H(14) ligand, or as an eight-vertex hypho cluster compound. In the former case, the B(6)H(14) ligand is best regarded as a dianionic bi-borallyl group H(3)B(mu-H)BH(mu-H)BHBH(mu-H)BH(mu-H)BH(3) in which one hydrogen at each end of the chain is involved in an agostic interaction. From a cluster point of view, the structure of Cp(2)Co(2)(B(6)H(14)) can be generated by removing three adjacent high-connectivity vertices from the eleven-vertex closo polyhedron. The Co-B distances vary from 2.008(5) to 2.183(4) Angstrom, and the B-B distances within in the S-shaped chain range from 1.734(8) to 1.889(6) Angstrom. Finally, a new synthesis of the known molybdenum compound Cp(2)Mo(2)(B(5)H(9)) is described; its structure as established by X-ray crystallography closely resembles that of the previously described (C(5)H(4)Me) analogue.  相似文献

High-level ab initio molecular-orbital methods have been employed to determine the relative stability among four neutral and anionic B20 isomers, particularly the double-ring tubular isomer versus three low-lying planar isomers. Calculations with the fourth-order Moller-Plessset perturbation theory [MP4(SDQ)] and Dunning's correlation consistent polarized valence triple zeta basis set as well as with the coupled-cluster method including single, double, and noniteratively perturbative triple excitations and the 6-311G(d) basis set show that the double-ring tubular isomer is appreciably lower in energy than the three planar isomers and is thus likely the global minimum of neutral B20 cluster. In contrast, calculations with the MP4(SDQ) level of theory and 6-311+G(d) basis set show that the double-ring anion isomer is appreciably higher in energy than two of the three planar isomers. In addition, the temperature effects on the relative stability of both 10B20- and 11B20- anion isomers are examined using the density-functional theory. It is found that the three planar anion isomers become increasingly more stable than the double-ring isomer with increasing the temperature. These results are consistent with the previous conclusion based on a joint experimental/simulated anion photoelectron spectroscopy study [B. Kiran et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 102, 961 (2005)], that is, the double-ring anion isomer is notably absent from the experimental spectra. The high stability of the double-ring neutral isomer of B20 can be attributed in part to the strong aromaticity as characterized by its large negative nucleus-independent chemical shift. The high-level ab initio calculations suggest that the planar-to-tubular structural transition starts at B20 for neutral clusters but should occur beyond the size of B20- for the anion clusters.  相似文献

Reliable mass spectrometry data from large water clusters Y(-)(H(2)O)(n) with various negative core ions Y(-) such as O(2)(-), HO(-), HO(2)(-), NO(2)(-), NO(3)(-), NO(3)(-)(HNO(3))(2), CO(3)(-) and HCO(4)(-) have been obtained using atmospheric pressure negative corona discharge mass spectrometry. All the core Y(-) ions observed were ionic species that play a central role in tropospheric ion chemistry. These mass spectra exhibited discontinuities in ion peak intensity at certain size clusters Y(-)(H(2)O)(m) indicating specific thermochemical stability. Thus, Y(-)(H(2)O)(m) may correspond to the magic number or first hydrated shell in the cluster series Y(-)(H(2)O)(n). The high intensity discontinuity at HO(-)(H(2)O)(3) observed was the first mass spectrometric evidence for the specific stability of HO(-)(H(2)O)(3) as the first hydrated shell which Eigen postulated in 1964. The negative ion water clusters Y(-)(H(2)O)(n) observed in the mass spectra are most likely to be formed via core ion formation in the ambient discharge area (760 torr) and the growth of water clusters by adiabatic expansion in the vacuum region of the mass spectrometers (≈1 torr). The detailed mechanism of the formation of the different core water cluster ions Y(-)(H(2)O)(n) is described.  相似文献

The structure of the O(4)(2+) dication has been studied theoretically using a few conventional theoretical methods. We found the O(4)(2+) dication to be a metastable species with a perfect square structure. The molecular orbital analysis reveals that this dication is the first all-oxygen aromatic system with 6pi electrons. Although the O(4)(2+) dication is highly thermodynamically unstable, we believe that appropriate counteranions with very high electron detachment energy (superhalogens) can be found to form a solid-state compound containing O(4)(2+). Another way to probe the planar aromatic tetra oxygen dication could be a double-photoionization process of the (O(2))(2) dimer.  相似文献

(N2H5)2GeF6 and (N2H6)2(GeF6)F2 have been prepared by reactions of N2H4·H2O and N2H6F2 with fluorogermanic acid. The solids have been characterized by chemical analysis and vibrational spectra. X-ray diffraction study has shown that crystals of (N2H5)2GeF6 are monoclinic, space group P 21/n, with unit-cell dimensions a = 6.015 (2), b = 5.249 (1), c = 11.181 (2) Å, β = 100.15 (2)o, and Z = 2. There are N2H5+ cations and GeF62? anions in the crystals interconnected by hydrogen bonds of the type NH····F and NH····N.  相似文献

[(4氮间杂六甲基十四烷环)~(-4)·2Mn~(2+)]·4HCl·[4氮间杂六甲基十四烷环)·2H_2O]的晶体结构已用单晶X线衍射技术测定完成。它属于三斜晶系,P_1空间群,晶胞参数a=9.028(2),b=11.055(2),c=12.202(4),α=71.70(2),B=88.41(2),γ=75.32(2)~°,Z=1。对于2597个可观察独立反射计算R=0.073。结构分析证实,该晶体存在有四类物种,由负4价的四氮间杂六甲基十四烷环(简称电负性大环Ⅱ),2个Mn~(2+)正离子,4个HCl分子和一个携带2个结晶水的4氮间杂六甲基十四烷环(简称电中性大环Ⅰ)组成。 4个HCl分子处于电负性大环Ⅱ的周围,大环Ⅱ和Mn~(2+)离子间按离子键特点取空间最稳定构型与电中性大环Ⅰ沿c方向周期性交替排布,构成四元包合物O~-、N~-、Cl~-等电负性强的离子之间形成很强的H键网。 六十年代以来,以四氨间杂六甲基十四烷环作配体,以Co~(2+)、Co~(3+)、Ni~(2+)等金属离子为络合中心的大环络合物,国外已有许多报导。这些结构的共同特点是大环配体的4个氮原子围绕金属离子以构成四配位或六配位结构,研究表明,络合以后金属的电子组态发生了变化。 近来,我们将Mn~(2+)与上述的配体反应,结果得到与上述结构绝然不同的化合物。NMR谱证实,该化合物中包含电中性和电负性两种大环。环伏安法测其锰离子是2价正离子(详见  相似文献

The stability and structures of titanium-doped gold clusters Au(n)Ti (n=2-16) are studied by the relativistic all-electron density-functional calculations. The most stable structures for Au(n)Ti clusters with n=2-7 are found to be planar. A structural transition of Au(n)Ti clusters from two-dimensional to three-dimensional geometry occurs at n=8, while the Au(n)Ti (n=12-16) prefer a gold cage structure with Ti atom locating at the center. Binding energy and second-order energy differences indicate that the Au(14)Ti has a significantly higher stability than its neighbors. A high ionization potential, low electron affinity, and large energy gap being the typical characters of a magic cluster are found for the Au(14)Ti. For cluster-cluster interaction between magic transition-metal-doped gold clusters, calculations were performed for cluster dimers, in which the clusters have an icosahedral or nonicosahedral structure. It is concluded that both electronic shell effect and relative orientation of clusters are responsible for the cluster-cluster interaction.  相似文献

This paper reports on the structural and emission properties of newly synthesized Sm(3+) and Dy(3+):MgLaLiSi(2)O(7) powder phosphors based on the measurement of their XRD, SEM, FTIR and photoluminescence spectra. Emission spectra of the Sm(3+):MgLaLiSi(2)O(7) phosphors with lambda(exci)=402 nm ((6)H(5/2)-->(4)F(7/2)) and Dy(3+):MgLaLiSi(2)O(7) phosphors with lambda(exci)=385 nm ((6)H(15/2)-->(4)I(13/2)) have been analyzed. Here, we theoretically predict antiaromatic double-decked compounds [DMB(6)](q-) (D = B(6)(2-), Cp(-); M = Li, Na, K, Be, Mg, Ca) as well as the triple-decked sandwich-like species. Being energetically higher than the fusion isomers, the homo-decked assembly species [B(6)MB(6)](q-) without and with counterions are less likely to be observed experimentally. The hetero-decked sandwich species are low-lying minima containing double-fold antiaromatic B(6)(2-) building blocks. Additionally, the well-retained double antiaromaticity is mainly ascribed to the ionic electrostatic interaction and the protection of rigid Cp-deck in order to avoid the fusion of B(6)(2-). Our results represent the first example that the antiaromaticity is well retained in assembled compounds as in the free B(6)(2-) cluster. Realization of the double antiaromatic B(6)(2-)-incorporated assembled compound is very promising.  相似文献

The question of whether the cubic structures proposed for the alkali halide cluster ions are the most stable has been re-examined. Geometry/energy optimization calculations were performed on other candidate structures for the [M(MX)4]+ species. The square-planar structure was found to be more than 3 eV lower in energy than a proposed quasi-octahedral structure. The relative energies of the square-planar and other structures for a series of nine-atom alkali halide cluster ions are found to correlate with published experimental data.  相似文献

The effect of Cu2+ on the triple-stranded helical structure of poly(A:2I) was studied by means of circular dichroism spectral method with the help of ultraviolet spectral and ethidium bromide fluorescence probe methods. It was found that Cu2+ destabilizes the structure of the triple helix poly(A:2I) and induces its structural transformations, meanwhile, the transformations can be partially reversed by a higher NaCl concentration. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements were used to study the spinreorientation effect in the pseudoternary (Er1−xGdx)2Fe14B alloys. A simple single-ion model for the free energy explained the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the alloys and described quantitatively the concentration dependence of the spin-reorientation temperature. The erbium crystal-field parameters and the exchange fields were inferred from this model.  相似文献
