Wrinkling can affect the functionality of thin membranes subjected to various loadings or boundary conditions. The concept of relaxed strain energy was studied for isotropic, hyperelastic, axisymmetric membranes pressurized by gas or fluid. Non-intuitive instabilities were observed when axisymmetric wrinkled membranes were perturbed with angle dependent displacement fields. A linearized theory showed that static equilibrium states of pressurized membranes, modelled by a relaxed strain energy formulation, are unstable, when the wrinkled surface is subjected to pressure loadings. The theory is extended to the non-axisymmetric membranes and it is shown that these instabilities are local phenomena. Simulations for the pressurized cylindrical membranes with non-uniform thickness and hemispherical membranes support the claims in both theoretical and numerical contexts including finite element simulations.  相似文献

An axisymmetric finite element is developed for the dynamic analysis of pipes subjected to water hammer. The analysis seamlessly captures the pipe response due to water hammer by solving first the water hammer mass and momentum conservation equations, to recover the spatial–temporal distribution of the internal pressure, and then uses the predicted pressure history to form a time-dependent energy equivalent load vector within a finite element model. The study then determines the pipe response by solving the finite element discretized equations of motion. The formulation of the pipe response is based on Hamilton’s principle in conjunction with a thin shell theory formulation, and captures inertial and damping effects. The results predicted by the model are shown to be in agreement with those based on an axisymmetric shell model in Abaqus for static, free vibration and transient responses for benchmark problems. The water hammer and structural models are seamlessly integrated to enable advancing the transient solution well into the time domain to capture the effect of reflected pressure wave due to water hammer. The results indicate that the radial stress/displacement oscillations approach those of the quasi-steady response when the valve closure time exceeds eight times the period of radial vibrations obtained for the case of instantaneous valve closure.  相似文献

This paper deals with the equilibrium problem in nonlinear elasticity of hyperelastic solids under anticlastic bending. A three-dimensional kinematic model, where the longitudinal bending is accompanied by the transversal deformation of cross sections, is formulated. Following a semi-inverse approach, the displacement field prescribed by the above kinematic model contains three unknown parameters. A Lagrangian analysis is performed and the compressible Mooney-Rivlin law is assumed for the stored energy function. Once evaluated the Piola-Kirchhoff stresses, the free parameters of the kinematic model are determined by using the equilibrium equations and the boundary conditions. An Eulerian analysis is then accomplished to evaluating stretches and stresses in the deformed configuration. Cauchy stress distributions are investigated and it is shown how, for wide ranges of constitutive parameters, the obtained solution is quite accurate. The whole formulation proposed for the finite anticlastic bending of hyperelastic solids is linearized by introducing the hypothesis of smallness of the displacement and strain fields. With this linearization procedure, the classical solution for the infinitesimal bending of beams is fully recovered.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to present an efficient analytic method for obtaining the deformation of thin straight pipes, subjected to prescribed edge displacements or concentrated loads. The approach uses the mixed formulation where unknown functions are combined with trigonometric terms. A variational procedure is used to obtain the system of ordinary differential equations. For the applied load a Fourier approach is used to represent the load as an analytical function. For the prescribed displacement, three solutions for the ovalization are evaluated and a method based on energy contribution of each term is used to obtain their superposition. In contrast to finite element method the proposed method is efficient and can be applied to other boundary condition problems leading to continuous displacement and stress fields with a low number of unknowns. Comparisons with experimental and finite element procedures show good agreement that enhances the merits of the analytical solutions proposed. The value of this method is based on solving the differential equations rather than using commercial codes. So far, the solution of prescribed edge displacements has been limited to one term. This paper discusses how to add further terms using the mixed formulation, thus, presenting a novel procedure.  相似文献

The undamped, finite amplitude horizontal motion of a load supported symmetrically between identical incompressible, isotropic hyperelastic springs, each subjected to an initial finite uniaxial static stretch, is formulated in general terms. The small amplitude motion of the load about the deformed static state is discussed; and the periodicity of the arbitrary finite amplitude motion is established for all such elastic materials for which certain conditions on the engineering stress and the strain energy function hold. The exact solution for the finite vibration of the load is then derived for the classical neo-Hookean model. The vibrational period is obtained in terms of the complete Heuman lambda-function whose properties are well-known. Dependence of the period and hence the frequency on the physical parameters of the system is investigated and the results are displayed graphically.  相似文献

A buckling criterion for shells with an axisymmetric middle surface and subjected to edge loads and hydrostatic surface pressure loading is formulated starting from Hill's three-dimensional continuum theory for uniqueness of deformation of inelastic solids. It turns out that a physically consistent two-dimensional set of equations may be derived for a quite general class of strain-hardening elastic-plastic solids, the only essential restriction being that of a smooth yield function. The intrinsic errors inherent in the derived rate equations, being an integral part of an eigenvalue problem, are discussed in relation to a circular cylinder under axial compression. Analytical results are given which illustrate the influence of the constitutive properties and the boundary contraints on the magnitude of the critical load.  相似文献

A new method is developed to determine the dominant asymptotic stress and deformation fields near the tip of a Mode-I traction free plane stress crack. The analysis is based on the fully nonlinear equilibrium theory of incompressible hyperelastic solids. We show that the dominant singularity of the near tip stress field is governed by the asymptotic solution of a linear second order ordinary differential equation. Our method is applicable to any hyperelastic material with a smooth work function that depends only on the trace of the Cauchy-Green tensor and is particularly useful for materials that exhibit severe strain hardening. We apply this method to study two types of soft materials: generalized neo-Hookean solids and a solid that hardens exponentially. For the generalized neo-Hookean solids, our method is able to resolve a difficulty in the previous work by Geubelle and Knauss (1994a). Our theoretical results are compared with finite element simulations.  相似文献

The general theory of shock and acceleration waves in isotropic, incompressible, hyperelastic solids is used in conjunction with the concept of finite elements to construct discrete models of highly nonlinear wave phenomena in elastic rods. A numerical integration scheme which combines features of finite elements and the Lax-Wendroff method is introduced. Numerical calculations of the critical time for shock formulation are given. Numerical results obtained from representative cases are discussed.  相似文献

The large deformation of incompressible rubber cylinder under inner pressure is analyzed by a kind of new rubber materials strain energy function. The theory formulation for the displacement and stress is presented. The penalty finite element formulation is established in order to analyze nonlinear rubber materials, and the results of finite element method agree well with theoretical ones. A new method for controlling the calculating stability and convergence rates is put forward. The selection of the appropriate penalty factor and its influence on calculated results are discussed.  相似文献

The problem of the finite axisymmetric deformation of a thick-walled circular cylindrical elastic tube subject to pressure on its external lateral boundaries and zero displacement on its ends is formulated for an incompressible isotropic neo-Hookean material. The formulation is fully nonlinear and can accommodate large strains and large displacements. The governing system of nonlinear partial differential equations is derived and then solved numerically using the C++ based object-oriented finite element library Libmesh. The weighted residual-Galerkin method and the Newton-Krylov nonlinear solver are adopted for solving the governing equations. Since the nonlinear problem is highly sensitive to small changes in the numerical scheme, convergence was obtained only when the analytical Jacobian matrix was used. A Lagrangian mesh is used to discretize the governing partial differential equations. Results are presented for different parameters, such as wall thickness and aspect ratio, and comparison is made with the corresponding linear elasticity formulation of the problem, the results of which agree with those of the nonlinear formulation only for small external pressure. Not surprisingly, the nonlinear results depart significantly from the linear ones for larger values of the pressure and when the strains in the tube wall become large. Typical nonlinear characteristics exhibited are the “corner bulging” of short tubes, and multiple modes of deformation for longer tubes.  相似文献

The mathematical modeling for the nonlinear vibration analysis of a pre-stretched hyperelastic annular membrane under finite deformations is presented. The membrane is initially fixed along the inner boundary and then subjected to a uniform radial traction along its outer circumference and fixed along the outer boundary. The pre-stretched membrane in then subjected to a transversal harmonic pressure. The membrane material is assumed to be homogeneous, isotropic, and neo-Hookean. First, the solution of the radially stretched membrane is obtained analytically and numerically by the shooting method. The equations of motion of the stretched membrane are then obtained. By analytically and numerically solving the linearized equations of motion, the vibration modes and frequencies of the hyperelastic membrane are obtained, and these normal modes are used, together with the Galerkin method, to obtain reduced order models for the nonlinear dynamic analysis. A parametric analysis of the nonlinear frequency-amplitude relations, resonance curves, bifurcation diagrams and basins of attraction show the influence of the initial stretching ratio and membrane geometry on the type and degree of nonlinearity of the hyperelastic membrane under large amplitude vibrations. To check the accuracy of the reduced order models and the influence of the simplifying hypotheses on the results, the same problem is also analyzed using the finite element method. Excellent agreement is observed.  相似文献

The dynamic response of an isotropic hyperelastic membrane tube, subjected to a dynamic extension at its one end, is studied. In the first part of the paper, an asymptotic expansion technique is used to derive a non-linear membrane theory for finite axially symmetric dynamic deformations of incompressible non-linearly elastic circular cylindrical tubes by starting from the three-dimensional elasticity theory. The equations governing dynamic axially symmetric deformations of the membrane tube are obtained for an arbitrary form of the strain-energy function. In the second part of the paper, finite amplitude wave propagation in an incompressible hyperelastic membrane tube is considered when one end is fixed and the other is subjected to a suddenly applied dynamic extension. A Godunov-type finite volume method is used to solve numerically the corresponding problem. Numerical results are given for the Mooney-Rivlin incompressible material. The question how the present numerical results are related to those obtained in the literature is discussed.  相似文献

The bulge test is mostly used to analyze equibiaxial tensile stress state at the pole of inflated isotropic membranes. Three-dimensional digital image correlation (3D-DIC) technique allows the determination of three-dimensional surface displacements and strain fields. In this paper, a method is proposed to determine also the membrane stress tensor fields for in-plane isotropic materials, independently of any constitutive equation. Stress-strain state is then known at any surface point which enriches greatly experimental data deduced from the axisymmetric bulge tests. Our method consists, first in calculating from the 3D-DIC experimental data the membrane curvature tensor at each surface point of the bulge specimen. Then, curvature tensor fields are used to investigate axisymmetry of the test. Finally in the axisymmetric case, membrane stress tensor fields are determined from meridional and circumferential curvatures combined with the measurement of the inflating pressure. Our method is first validated for virtual 3D-DIC data, obtained by numerical simulation of a bulge test using a hyperelastic material model. Afterward, the method is applied to an experimental bulge test performed using as material a silicone elastomer. The stress-strain fields which are obtained using the proposed method are compared with results of the finite element simulation of this overall bulge test using a neo-Hookean model fitted on uniaxial and equibiaxial tensile tests.  相似文献

An elasticity solution for axisymmetric problem of finite circular cylinder   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, the complete double-series in the closed region expressing the double-variable functions and their partial derivatives are derived by the H-transformation and Stockes’transformation.Using the double-series,a series solution for the axisymmetric boundary value problem of the elastic circular cylinder with finite length is presented. In a numerical example, the cylinder subjected to the axisymmetric tra(?)s with various loaded regions is investigated and the distributions of the displacements and stresses are obtained. It is possible to solve the axisymmetric boundary value problems in the cylinderical coordinates for other scientific fields by use of the method presented in this paper.  相似文献

We propose a multi-field implicit finite element method for analyzing the electromechanical behavior of dielectric elastomers. This method is based on a four-field variational principle, which includes displacement and electric potential for the electromechanical coupling analysis, and additional independent fields to address the incompressible constraint of the hyperelastic material. Linearization of the variational form and finite element discretization are adopted for the numerical implementation. A general FEM program framework is developed using C ++ based on the open-source finite element library deal.II to implement this proposed algorithm. Numerical examples demonstrate the accuracy, convergence properties, mesh-independence properties, and scalability of this method. We also use the method for eigenvalue analysis of a dielectric elastomer actuator subject to electromechanical loadings. Our finite element implementation is available as an online supplementary material.  相似文献

In this paper, the displacement fields associated with the abrasive waterjet (AWJ) drilling process were simulated using the finite element method. A threedimensional finite element model was established, and justifiable pressure loads were used in the numerical model to simulate the AWJ drilling process. It was assumed that the pressure load in the AWJ could be resolved into three components, such as impact jet pressure, shear and normal pressure. The effect of these three pressure loads and their magnitudes on the surface displacement were investigated as a function of the jet penetration depth through numerical modeling. Using the hybrid experimental-numerical stress analysis approach, the transient state of stress and strain associated with the notch crest of the jet-induced hole at the impingement zone of the target material during AWJ piercing can be modeled numerically. It was found that the shear contributed the most in shaping the displacement contour patterns and that the jet pressure did not play a dominant role in determining theu field displacement. The jet pressure and shear had the most effect on thev field displacement contour pattern. It was demonstrated that the principal stresses at the bottom of the cavity increase as the depth of the hole increases.  相似文献
